WEIGHT NO MORE Team Chat - July 2020

@sleepymom5 thank you so much for your kind words. I am trying to figure me out too! I think part of the problem is that I still look good, feel good for the most part and my clothes still fit. Yes I am petrified of climbing back up the scale. I have taken the last few weeks off to feed myself and figure out what I need to maintain. I really do love being in the 40's and I think I will get there again. Probably sooner than not. It has been an intense week or so with work and training my teams to perform at a higher level than they are used to. And this week I had gout symptoms (had to wear flip flops one day at work), and there was my back problems. I have not exercised for a week and am starting to feel physically better. We are getting ready to go out of town. I usually cook up a storm but plan to go much easier this go round.
I would like my goal range to be 142-147. 142-152 possibly. But I was 154 this morning. I am not too horrified. Just flowing along. I have been trying to eat healthy dinners all this week.
I woke up thinking TGIF but also about a long work day ahead. I laid in bed pondering my day. Molly recently bought some delicious cereal from Costco. Morning Summit I think it's called. I knew I had some at work with some really good almond milk. (I eat breakfast at work) also had some fresh blueberries at work too. Then I thought about my leftovers for lunch. a Napa cabbage salad with Kale, carrots and peanut ginger dressing. That got me excited. And I also have organic cotton candy grapes for a snack. I just bought an awesome big lunch pail, EasyFun, that is pretty nice. So basically I realized that the greatest joy of my day is thinking about food and what wonderful things I was going to eat today. Does this mean I need to get some new goals? I don't know lol. I have always loved my food! My days at work just feel so long, sometimes intense sometimes a bit boring.
Anyway I find it sobering to have these physical set backs with exercise. If I think about the whole picture it makes it easier to accept me and my personal journey and what I need to do to find peace and stay at a healthy weight.
I get "thissavoryvegan.com" emails each week that has dinner plans. This is the first week that I made her plans. I modified them to use what I had from CSA but overall we were really happy with her menu ideas.
I am feeling tired these days. My work day is almost over, it's summertime and all I can think of is going home and having a gin and tonic with extra limes.
Have a great weekend everyone!5 -

Good morning! Yesterday was chemo day #2, round 2. It went as well as possible after they were able to access the port - it apparently clogged again. Added 30 minutes to the session and a couple needle sticks to draw blood which really don't bother me.
After (about 3:00) my daughter and I went out for lunch to a bar and grill with patio seating. We sat near a fan as it was 90+ with high humidity. We shared 3 appetizers (delicious food) and I ate and ate. Kim said she'd never seen me eat so much! Salmon patties, fried green tomatoes, and a veggie sandwich with a toasted roll. I don't drink alcohol so no additional calories there. No idea how many calories but I drank my instant breakfast before 6:30 a.m. and had some pretzels and grapes during treatment so I was starving.
My weight usually goes up about 2 pounds for a day or two with all the fluids and chemo drugs - today I'm only up a pound so I should have a good weigh in next week.8 -
check in for Friday
Food-logged and on target
Water-64 oz
Exercise-at least 2-20 min walks with dogs, PT
Quick check in today. I got a lot of cleaning done yesterday since it was raining so never got any exercise in. It is hot and humid here today but sunny. I may try to get some more cleaning done since it is so hot out and we have no visitors. I never got down here in the spring to do a deep cleaning and I was just going to bag it this year but it really needs to be done. Hopefully we can take a beach walk after dinner today. Weather says we may have some thunder storms but the app always seems to say that when it is so hot and humid.
@lennoncpa Great job maintaining, especially with how busy you are!
@hope002 You are just amazing! Look at that overall loss! From what I remember, you have been consistently losing since you started with the IF!
@KUMEcyclingteam Great loss this week! Once again, you had me Lol-ing! Good to know that I will eventually get accustomed to the soreness if I keep on riding.
@Mrsbell8well I was still trying to figure you out after I wrote that Lol! I have another suggestion, why don't you not worry about the number on the scale at all and just go by how your clothes fit and how you feel? If you are 150(but you aren't aware of it because you don't weigh yourself), your clothes fit and you feel good, is that bad? I am just throwing things out there. I really think you are doing amazing and trying to find a way that you see that too. You could be someone who gets too obsessed with the number on the scale and would be better off using other ways to stay on track. Hope you can take this weekend to relax and recharge. Sounds like you have another busy week ahead so more of a reason to take care of yourself. Hugs!
@pacsnc6 Ugh about the port! Hope this isn't a thing going down the road. I am glad that you enjoyed your lunch with your daughter. These days have been trying for most of us but you are on a totally different level. I think it was the combo of what you have been through, being able to eat out and to have food prepared for you. Sounds like you made some delicious and healthy choices. Hugs!5 -

I jumped on the scale mid week and it had went up drastically, so the next few days I went to the gym and ate right an by golly gee TA -DA!!!! We have a loss! I was ecstatic to see that along with just feeling good because of working out although cramping and joint pain has been a significant problem! I think I might call the Hospital Gym next week and see if they have opened the Strength after Cancer program back up yet. My oncologist said going through that should help with my joint pain.
@pacsnc6 sorry to hear you are having troubles with your port. I was fortunate and only had problems 1 time after my surgery because it had sat so long without being accessed. I’m super glad you still have an appetite and are able to eat while your on chemo!
@KUMEcyclingteam team great loss! Your posts always make me lol too! I cannot even imagine riding a century, I’m still trying to reach twenty miles. I see you chatting about all of your bikes and it makes me want to go get another one. I only have a comfort/ hybrid bike, but I can tell I could easily turn into someone with a bike fetish.5 -

Wow! So many people with great losses this week! I'm just going to offer a loud HUZZAH to all of you!
@pacsnc6 That sucks about your port, but I'm thrilled you still have a good appetite through your chemo treatments. Hugs and continued healing vibes to you my NC sista!
@Mrsbell8well You know yourself better than you think you do. I have always admired the way you assess your situation, speak honestly to yourself, and come up with a plan of attack. (And beautiful goal setting pages as well!) Have that talk, set those smart goals, design a beautiful plan sheet, and do your thing. Remember, you are in control of yourself and you've got this!
Friday's steps: 8,227 had to go play some ping pong to get there, but made it over 8k!
Leaving tomorrow to do some hiking, fishing and kayaking in the mountains. We'll be back Thursday and I'll weigh in Friday to report the damage. Hopefully the activities will offset the eating? We'll see.
@hope002 I've been researching IF and I think I'm going to give it a go after we get back from vacation. The last couple of days I've sort of casually tested myself and I can get to about 13 hours without much effort, so I think I can work my way to 16/8. Do you fast every day or every other day or just M-F? I've been seeing a lot of variations online. Feel free to message me if you want.
Happy Weekend, everyone!!!5 -
Friday check in
Food - 200 over
Water - 2.2 l
Exercise - rest day
We have continued to enjoy our child-free weekend and had a distanced bbq last night. It was fun! I stuck to my 2 drink maximum and just went a bit over on food as I wanted to enjoy everything we prepared. I actually felt like getting a bit dressed up and putting on makeup too.
I have to run and will catch up later.
A reminder to all of our steppers to post your steps for the week tomorrow!3 -
Wow, did I miss a lot!
I especially noticed the team rallying around each other with support this week. @timibotkin and @ljdanny, your insights to @tryingagain5 were inspiring to me and probably others.
@GingerPwr I learn something from you every week. I have to find some fun activities like ping pong to get more steps in and have fun!
@Zumba_Luvah That’s dedication, taking your scale to camp…well, or planning to. Great loss!
@ProfDawnLee Great loss! I’m glad the app issues didn’t derail you. I worry about that with people. Did I tell you that I downloaded the Happy Scale app. It’s so cool that someone created an app with one focus like that.
@bburrer30 @sleepymom5 @Cafelelia @lenka1 @hope002 @KUMEcyclingteam Great close to the week with your losses!
@lenka1 I hear you about finding balance. With little ones, it’s fleeting ~ on a mintue-by-minute basis. Looking from the outside in, I do see you achieving balance. It’s hard to feel it in the moment as I recall from that period in my life. You are doing a great job.
@bburrer30 Wonderful news that your gramma can visit your grampa. Ouch about the thorn.
@sleepymom5 Housework can be great when you can't get outside to work out. It's good for step count and calories. We’ve had a couple of storms and they seem to have been different across the city. We had some trees struck by lightning here but my friend just a few kilometres to the east of me had just sun showers.
@Cafelelia I’ve been meaning to ask you if you had trees down. A different friend in The Junction showed pictures on FB of several large trees down and her big container of strawberry plants on the upstairs deck blew down into the backyard. Glad you got to the restaurant and enjoyed yourselves sans kids.
@Mrsbell8well When I was at my favourite weight of 142, I had a 10-pound range that I would go up and down between. Good job taking the time out to listen to your body. I’m sure you will find your balance and groove. Were you a vegan before your weight loss journey? I love vegan food too and read a book called "VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00 to Lose Weight and Restore Your Health . . . for Good," by Mark Bittman that really resonated with me. It's highly regarded. He's a true foodie, in fact, a New York Times food writer.
@pacsnc6 Lunch with your daughter sounded just wonderful. What a nice time after a bit of an ordeal at Chemo. Glad you continue to do so will in treatment. I’m often thinking of you and sending my well wishes.
@lennoncpa Great maintain and cool insight about giving into the nut craving once and how it took care of the problem. Too bad your clients aren’t being more patient. I noticed that in general this week. I think people are losing some of their socialization ability in 2020.
@brown6267 Great maintain/loss!
@timibotkin Great, great week and fantastic loss! I agree with you about a bike fetish but totally see you doing it. I dreamed about bikes when I was a kid and still love them now. I used to have more than one, including a fancy road bike, but now found my ideal bike. It’s light and sleek and still works in the city. It’s a bit heavier now that I added the dog basket. Nothing makes me feel like a kid again, like riding a bike does!
@kirsten11872 Look at you go! I have to head over to your diary and take some tips from you.4 -
@minstrelofsarcasm You’re so scientific! I loved your explanation about the hormones and the kidneys protecting us in a heatwave. I have a friend who I bet you’d really get along with. He’s super curious ~ always asking himself and a bunch of geeky guys we know, “What if…?”
They make videos about just those questions. You can just imagine them sitting around coming up with the questions.
What if?
e.g. What if we all flushed our toilets at the same time?

Your Amazing Body
e.g. Have you ever asked yourself why your stomach doesn't digest itself? Plus some good ones on losing weight and IF according to science.

@KUMEcyclingteam I can imagine you sitting around with these guys asking about just how your body reacts to cycling long distances or dehydration or funnier things too. (I don't think you're a geek though.)
@hope002 and @GingerPwr There's one about IF in the 'Your Amazing Body' series.

My week
My apologies for not checking in yesterday. The week was very busy with finalizing the website for launch. It reminded me of exam time in university, or that week before you put your house on the market, or pack for a move across the country. I've never experienced the last one but you get the idea.
Balance and listening
Finding balance was a challenge. Three times during the week, when I got particularly overwhelmed, I would want to order pizza. I tried to listen to what that was about. I believe that you can eat anything you want while losing weight when it fits with your plan.
Friday night
By Friday evening, I had to make a decision. I was burnt out from work and the heatwave had made the house humid even with good air conditioning. I Googled, 'What is the healthiest food you can order on Uber Eats,' and ended up finding horrifyingly healthy things. Just unspeakable. One place sold various sized containers of blanched broccoli, or just chopped carrots, or diced tomatoes. Why? So I Googled again using healthy instead of healthiest and chose a neighbourhood restaurant called Flock.
Aside
Whenever I order from Flock I'm reminded that the chef who opened it was dating Meghan Markle when she fell in love with Prince Harry. Yikes! She lived nearby. You should have seen her street when Harry came to visit. Lots of cars surrounding her house with security people. Can you imagine what the neighbours would have thought the first time he stayed the night?! Well, I actually know, I got hilarious texts about it. I guess they were really in love to put up with the scrutiny.
Back to the story
Anyway, I was only up to about 1,700 footsteps and had decided not to do a workout, so had to go for a walk in the dreadful heat. It was too hot to do a dog walk, so I decided to go run some errands at the drug store and the grocery store. Both have good air conditioning and walking the aisles is great for racking up footsteps.
Trigger alert ~ snacks
I had no list, which is okay at the drug store but not so great at the grocery. I made a deal with myself to go wild but only with healthy (not healthiest) treats. I wound up getting a big bag of juicy black cherries, two boxes of Bengal Spice tea from Celestial Seasonings (so good!), two bags of white cheddar Skinny Pop, a box of mini ice cream sandwiches, and a 6-pack of baby bottles of Coke Zero. Not terribly unhealthy but bad enough. So, I listened to myself.
For the save!
In fact, just the act of buying them and putting them away put out the craving (Building on that tip from @lennoncpa .) I ordered a half rotisserie chicken, some crispy lime sweet potato wedges, and a large salad from Flock. Put my feet up and ate the whole salad with four ounces of chicken breast, skin removed, and some sweet potatoes.
Friday night saved! And today I have room for some mini ice cream bars and am enjoying a tea now. Maybe one day I'll order that blanched broccoli from Uber Eats.

@bburrer30
I'm glad the nursing home is letting your grandparents see each other.
I've been working on getting water in too. My trainer told me to try and drink 8 to 12 ounces of water before each meal and that will help to get in some water.
Glad the medicine is working for you. Sounds like that really hurt.
Nice that you're so close to the bridge. Northern Michigan is really pretty.0 -
@timibotkin
Thank you for your kind words. Yes. I will let the group help me. Glad I was able to motivate you. I'm always better at encouraging and motivating others. You'd think I could do that for myself.🤔
@1theresamcvean
Thanks, I am turning a corner and will stay strong.
@ljdanny
Thank you. It is frustrating to watch my weight go up and know that I did it to myself. I've done that too many times in the past. It's time I do what I need to do to get and stay healthy.
@GingerPwr
Thank you, I will stay. I like the idea of posting small goals and sharing when I reach them. Yes, fixing one issue at a time is a good idea. You must have been talking with my trainer.😁 He told me the same thing.
@sleepymom5
You're right. Struggling is no reason to stop. I know I won't be able to workout quite as hard as when I'm with my trainer (he doesn't let me slack off) but I can still do hard things at home, like his jumping jacks workout or others that I have. I could also run up and down my stairs. Would probably be more walking than running but that's ok, that will still be hard for me. I will plan to start posting on how did I my goals for the day. You're right, trying to read and respond to so many posts would be daunting. I'll just do my best to check in every day.
I may have missed responding to some of you who encouraged me this week but know that I appreciate it. Thank you.5 -

I fast every day. Most days I do 20:4 with no effort, I eat what I want and as much as I want. Some days I do 18:6, depending on how busy I am, or if I do my weight workout a little later - I have protein shake.
Right from the beginning it's better if you fast every day.

At last!!! F2F has a new chat thread for members from any team who are now at their goal weight, getting near it, or just want to see what maintenance is like. Drop by any time!
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10803339/goal-zone-maintenance-chat-july-2020/p1?new=1
If you are already at goal, or want to stop where you are to see if it is indeed your final weight goal, be sure you are in the "Goal Zone" section of your team spreadsheet. Then come to this chat to explore this new and much longer phase together with others. Let's not be a statistic and just gain it all back, right?
WNM has two people on the Goal Zone part of the team, and at least 2-3 more who are very close. Can't wait to see this group grow!2 -

My son Max from Chicago came to visit this weekend and he brought Sunny. I still have my foster dog Bebe and they get along great. Bebe is just such a mellow and easy going guy that it seems like nothing bothers him. It’s actually little 4 pound Sunny that gets bossy sometimes!! They were even sharing food!! Sunny started doing his zoomer dog around the house and Bebe joined in so I had 2 dogs zooming in circles around my house!! It was so funny!!8 -

check in for Saturday
Food-logged and on target
Water-80 oz
Exercise- 2-20 min walks with dogs, PT and cleaning
Happy Sunday! I had a post almost finished here and lost it! Ugh! Oh well, it is hot and humid here again at the Jersey shore so I will use that time to get my cleaning done. I usually do this before the season but we all know that this spring was not a typical spring for any of us. I finished the second floor and my bedroom yesterday. I am doing the first floor today.
Enjoy the day everyone!
@Zumba_Luvah @timibotkin and @kirsten11872 Fantastic losses!! Saturday was a strong weigh in day!
@Cafelelia I am glad to see you are enjoying your weekend! I did the same thing when I went out to lunch the other day. I don't know the last time that I dressed up and wore makeup!
@1theresamcvean I have to bookmark those sites to check out later! All stuff I would be interested in. You must be so excited to be getting your business up and running! I know it is a lot of work but in the end it will be so satisfying. Thanks for sharing your Friday with us, I think we all are in that place that we are trying to make the best possible choices when we really just want to have something easy and not worry about our plan. I had to laugh about the uber eats. Who would have guessed there would be a market for that stuff with uber eats Lol!
@tryingagain5 I can hear your attitude changing with your posts! You got this!
@annliz23 Great job maintaining!
@lennoncpa I am always happy to see Sunny on our page! Funny how Bebe looked little until Sunny showed up! Lol! Have fun!
@Mrsbell8well Sounds like a fun weekend! Enjoy!

Happy Sunday!
@Mrsbell8well Black bean nachos sound amazing - so does the G&T. Personally, I like a vodka tonic with a splash of cranberry and a twist of lime. I like it tooooo much mostly. Hope you have a fabulous time! And your goal of 1 lb a week is completely doable. I'll be cheering you on!
So we're leaving in a little while to spend a few days around Bryson City hiking, fishing, kayaking and so forth. My Fitbit band broke as I was taking it off for my shower, so I'm taking that as a sign that I should just enjoy myself this week and not worry about getting in a certain number of steps or anything. I need to just unplug and BE.
Speaking of steps, yesterday's 5,917 - lower than my goal, but I sat and crocheted most of the day, lol.
Total steps Sun - Sat: 83,135
Won't be tracking steps this week, and I'll only be hopping on MFP to keep my streak alive, since we have no wifi in our cabin. We are totally unplugging, and I'm SOOOOOOoooooooo looking forward to it!
I'll be back in full swing on Friday. Everybody have a great week!4 -
Thank you for your kind words, ladies!
It’s encouraging...
I took 3ish days off from working out really just did walking and lighter stretching.
It helped some.
Husband took girls for 2h to his mom so I got to clean up house a little on Friday. It felt good.
I’m just permanently sore lol it gets to me. I can’t recover between my work outs and it keeps me up - (and so does the baby)
I do think lack of sleep is what gets me down most of the days. I do have the eating part figured out pretty good.
We have been doing a lots of swimming lately too and while I love it and so do my girls - my calves and back don’t lol
Sorry for complaining! I’m not giving up. I never give up. I just need to take it slower I guess
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and balancing eating/working out and enjoying life Hugs!8 -

My steps were horrible last week. I have to up my game this week. I'm just under 10,000 steps today I'm getting ready to go in the pool so hopefully I get there. All the kids are on there way over should be here soon. We are only doing burgers and pasta salad today and I have my meals planned for tomorrow already. It's hot and humid today. Hopefully the scale will be nice to me this week.3

Saturday check in
Food - on target
Water 2l
Exercise - 20 min walk, 35 min HIIT
We were supposed to go out for dinner last night to another patio. It rained, so we had the same food but take out at home. It was all healthy, so it was easy for me to stick to my plan & calorie range. I have been taking it easy for the past few days, and resumed my Fitness Blender HIIT program yesterday. The kids may stay the week at my mom’s. I just want to make sure she does not get too tired. They all seem to be loving it so far.
@GingerPwr and @Brown6267 - The maintainers thread is up and I am happy to see that you both have jumped on already. I think this is such a good addition to our F2F community. @mrsbell8well will hopefully join you there soon, as well as a few other team members. I target being there by November and will be dropping in periodically to see how it is going!
@ljdanny - I hope that the scale is nice to you too! I had more rest time this week, so my steps are around the same as yours. So here’s to a higher step count in Week 3!
@lenka1 - Lack of sleep can certainly have an impact on our health, stress and weight. I think that having some down time was a great idea. Just go at whatever pace works for you. I love that you never give up!
@GingerPwr - Your trip sounds amazing, enjoy!
@sleepymom5 - Hoping you can get some relaxation in after all of that cleaning! It is hot here too
@mrsbell8well - You will totally get back in your zone! Enjoy your weekend away!
@lennoncpa - Those doggies are so cute and I laughed thinking about them running circles around your house.
@annliz23 - Nice maintain and hope all is well!
@hope002 - I love all the info that you share on IF, it has really helped me and others on the team!
@tryingagain5 - Hope that you are doing well, and give us an update whenever you have a chance, even if it is just a short one.
@1theresamcvean - I have heard really good things about Flock. I am a vegetarian, so it is not as appealing, but good for my family. Kind of like a healthy, upscale Swiss Chalet. We had our “take away” from Lucia last night. The owner also owns Local Kitchen. He makes almost everything from scratch has his own organic farm to grow produce for the restaurants. So the vegetable dishes are always amazing and last night was no exception!
