xX_PhoenixRising_Xx wrote: »Hi @Cafelelia and @1theresamcvean - can I be excused from weigh-in this week pretty please? I've been creatine-loading and working out twice per day all week (apart from Friday rest-day). My weight is consequently up around 6lbs from last Sunday, but it's purely from water retention and is fully expected with the creatine supplement. It should settle back down over the next week I think (hope?) and I'm actually feeling pretty good with the supplement. I'm mostly vegetarian so not getting creatine in my diet, hence the supplement.
Today hubby and I walked about 8km/4.97 miles along the coast, over the cliffs. I love that we're nearly in Spring here and the weather is good enough to go for our walks again! Depending on whether the tide is in or out, we either go along the beach/pipe-line walk, or over the cliffs, and sometimes climbing over large rocks if we go far enough. None of our kids came along today, but they often do. I am so thankful to have a body that is healthy enough that I can go out and exercise - I remember when these walks were difficult for me. Today, I burned almost 1000 calories but I was still able to walk up the final hill home!
Kristy, I've put the request in with the moderators to excuse you this week. While I was away, I saw a comment from you about creatine loading and wanted to know more about it. Can you recommend any reading to me or give me some insight. I wouldn't have thought it was for me. My son used to do it from time to time and is quite muscular ~ as in his biceps are bigger than my quads (pic below). Perhaps I shouldn't dismiss it outright based on this non-scientific study of one.
My son, Phil, is on the right and I am behind him in the blue t-shirt. This is a few years ago at my grandmother's 95th birthday. Since we're looking anyway, my daughter Elisabeth is the young woman with the braid and striped top. My sister is way over on the left and the other three young people are her children. Then there is my mother and grandmother (who passed away March 1st).5 -

Hmm, strange because I'm on my 3rd day of TOM! 😲 I'll take it!! Also, I haven't eaten ALL day yet and I've already burned over 800 calories...It says I have around 2,500 under remaining calories. Hahaha! Annnd I'm about to burn more because my Sister is pretty much forcing me to go with her on a mile walk to these rental scooters we have everywhere around town then pay for 2 of those and ride them to her work which is pretty far! Then I'll have to come all the way home by myself...But she said she might not make me go all the way to her work with her...I don't know, ugh!3 -
@CassieGetsFit2013 rental scooters sound like fun!! Enjoy the day.3

@1theresamcvean Creatine supports muscle development, amongst other things. It is often used by bodybuilders for increased strength and size, but there is research showing it can be helpful in maintaining muscle mass in seniors, and is safe to use for just about anyone. Creatine is part of our diet through red meat and fish; excess creatine is not used by the body and is not harmful. Maximum saturation occurs for most people within 5 to 7 days of creatine loading - taking up to 30 grams per day.
I decided to take it as I am 99% vegetarian and won't be getting it through my diet. I also want to support my muscles now that I am lifting again, and I have a lot of problems with my right trapezius so I am effectively rehabbing it. I haven't taken creatine before but I have been able to put my weights up from last week.
There's good info on WebMD or Men's Health (typical of muscle building to be aimed at men!)3 -

I am trying intermittent fasting every few days. I did two 16/8 days in a row. I’ll see if I’ll do another one tonight. I should research it. I know many of you have or currently do it. Any advice?
I've been doing IF since July last year. My advice is to take it slow, don't rush it. Otherwise it's easy to slip. Stay with 16:8 for a month or so, you will know when you are ready to fast for longer.
For now, try to lower your carbs, eat more good fats instead, like avocado, salmon, nuts. If you have any questions, let me know, I'm happy to help2 -

That's me this weekend...Husband is ill and I tend to just hang out with him and stay close (but not too close), ply him with wellness tea and generally take care of him.

Welp, a weekend of not tracking what I ate, eating past the point of being full, and a few too many cocktails... this week is going to be interesting. Maybe it wasn't that bad, but only time will tell. All I know is that my body is not used to being completely stuffed anymore.
Time to drink a bunch of water, do regular stretches, and ask myself "Am I hungry, or am I bored?"
Anyway. Happy Monday, everyone! Let's make this week something to be proud of!3 -

Thanks for sharing, Kristy. This is interesting for vegetarians and seniors. Still a little hard for me to understand but there are some good scientific research studies about creatine. One thing's for sure, you need to know what you're doing and take it in cycles for brief periods with a rest period afterward.1 -
What a Week!Week one was outstanding and it was great to see some new members on the board!
@timibotkin Congratulations for taking 3rd place in F2F overall in lbs lost with 5.2 lbs last week. It must have been great to step on the scale and see that number!
Congratulations to @Zumba_Luvah for 40+ lbs lost and to @goingape for 50+ lbs lost. Oh, that must feel fantastic in so many ways.
Who will be next week's losers? Stay tuned

@KristieJC Don't beat yourself up about a bit of a gain. As much as we hate to see it, it's a learning opp. Even better, a bit of an 'eat-up,' as I like to call it, helps our bodies to lose. A reset can be good for us every now and then. Onward Ho!
@minstrelofsarcasm Surely you deserve it with all that 'vigorous' cycling. LOL. Ditto to the above.
@CassieGetsFit2013 I sure hope you ate a lot when you got home from that workout!2 -
@nstepheson1 I can’t wait to hike this area my company is based out of Williston but I cover mostly the south side of the Missouri River to the badlands and sometimes all the way to Belfield I love driving this part of the country I find it so beautiful3

17771 steps for Monday.
I hope everyone is having a good day. Made some overnight oats for tomorrow’s lunch so no hassle in the morning. This used to trip me up all the time.3 -
Okay, I'm going to be geeky now...
Every time I see anyone talk about creatine, my brain turns it to krillitane...yikes!
I don't know if any of you are Who fans...but I think it pretty funny. If you aren't, you can google it...3 -
Hey Team WNM! I am mostly unplugged on vacation, but checking in here and there. So Murphy’s law happened on day 2 of vacation when an auditor from my professional association contacted me for a random audit of my practice! Who does that in August? I hope that I have given him enough details to delay this thing to September. We had a strong start to August and hope that everyone is doing well!4

Want to do a morning check in. Vacation was difficult. Spent most of it on pain pills and sleeping. Had to take this week off as well. The good news is this morning I’m actually feeling better. More achy than in actual pain. Yesterday was rough but I know to transition and not overdo it.
I start PT next week. Meanwhile I have been doing the at home exercises. Incredible how hard the easy routines have been. But I’m really optimistic that I will end up in my best place yet. I was reading through my planner and noticed that I was complaining about my back in January. Although I have dealt with issues for years. Other than 2019 which was pretty much pain free.
I found an organizing source for 6 things to do on your phone. I finished cleaning up my contact list. Now I’m organizing all my photos into files. It’s quite tedious but extremely satisfying. I’m down to 1 week left in January. Next project will be tackling my personal emails and building folders for them as well. I do great with work emails but personal is another story.
As most of you know I’ve been feeling lost these last few months trying to get back into a good space. I came across a you tube couple that has completely motivated me. Eat move rest. It completely jives with my philosophy. Very excited to transition back to cleaner eating.
Finished steroids yesterday. Still relying on pain pills but I’m hopeful.
Also finished crocheting my doll project. Going to sew her some clothes today. I will post pictures.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Thanks for all the kind words and support!7 -

Hi all,
Weigh in

Quite happy with that, the not giving in to takeaways apparently makes a big difference - who'd have thought it
Wow, some awesome losses this week - go team!
@timibotkin - so sorry to hear about your friend, at least she has someone who has been there to support her through it x
@ljdanny - hope you had a lovely vacation! I always find I feel extra motivated when I get back as well so am sure you'll be kicking butt this week
@xX_PhoenixRising_Xx - interesting info on the creatine loading, I'm also veggie but must admit I don't do much on weights side. Looks like some gorgeous walks where you live x
@1theresamcvean - aww, what a lovely family pic
@CassieGetsFit2013 - rental scooters sound like so much fun! Glad you're heading back downwards on the scale, and sounds like you're killing it on the exercise this week
@KristieJC - aww, hang in there, this will be a better week x
@melaniedscott - hehe, I'm just gonna see that every time now def fellow Whovian here (think @GingerPwr is part of the geek squad as well lol)
@Cafelelia - enjoy your vacation x
@Mrsbell8well - glad you're feeling a little better, though it sucks that it had to happen just as your vacation was due. Cleaner eating sounds like a good plan
Been an ok week, trying to be a bit stricter on the food plan though exercise is still not great. Had an appointment in the city centre yesterday - first time have been there since lockdown. It was a little weird, so many people acting like nothing was wrong and not following guidelines. Makes me more paranoid lol. Still working from home for now, not sure how long it's going to last for but guess we'll see. I am trying to focus on my therapists suggestions and make more time for things I enjoy and things that settle me - I do think it's making some difference, I guess it's a slow process.
