HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. The total will be by month, and cumulative - so you can really rack them up and get to your goal even if you never hit the top of the leaderboard.
In an effort to recognize accomplishments, we are using an optional addition to the weigh in format called LOSS TO DATE or LTD. Please just leave this new line off if you do not want to participate. Here is the new format:
Username
Weigh In Day
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
LTD (Loss to Date):
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captain here on your team chat page. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are travelling, sick, or just needing some time off. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions and weigh in if you want to, but your weigh-ins will not be counted on the weekly tally.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the elite Goal Zone! After hitting your goal, you need support to stay there, and you can help your teammates join you. You must continue to weigh in every week, and if you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month begin!!

@micki48 steps for me thus far:
I believe that is 97k+ so as long as I meet my goal today, I should be well over the elusive 100k! Woo
Happy Saturday all! I'm taking a shopping trip to Yankee Candle to find some fall-scented tea lights. And knowing me, I will also pick up an additional 2-3 giant candles that I don't need but such is life.2 -
Welcome to October!
This is our home for the month, where all of our triumphs and challenges take place. Please introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. A good focus on the small every day stuff will get you where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @micki48. I live in rural Québec, about 85 miles east of Montreal, and I'm a retired university professor of music. I haven't retired from being a musician, but these days the performance opportunities are zero! My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed on quite a lot while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise, and lost 40 pounds. I have been in a good zone for 8 years now, always refining and figuring out the things that work best, and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and others who are working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
If you are getting close to goal, you will soon be on the Goal Zone Team! Maintenance takes work, and this is where it happens. You will get good at staying where you have worked so hard to get.
Let the introductions roll!6 -
Welcome to all newbies!
My name is Yinka and I'm from Worcestershire, UK. I live in a gorgeous Georgian town called Bewdley with my husband Ben and our little Jack Russell cross, Edie. But hubby and I were both born Londoners.
I work from home as an online English language teacher so I spend most of my days filming video content or running live mini courses for my adult students who are all over the world.
I've been with the Waistaways for about a year (I think?) and I have about 40lb to lose. I have no problem exercising, but my diet is what often lets me down. That, and not drinking enough water.
I've recently joined Noom, and upped my water intake. And I've also recently started getting 3 meals a week from Hello Fresh - hoping that this will help me more with my portion control. Seems to be doing the trick.
I also need to work on going on more outside walks. More about that later.
Looking forward to a green October for all of us!5 -
Welcome and welcome back everybody! It's October, Thanksgiving approaches for those Canadians of us, and this unbelievable year is finally in its last quarter.
My name is Amber, and I am in fact Canadian so next weekend I'll be feasting. I'm 32, 5'6, and live with my husband and cat in Alberta.
I'll be around as motivator to help push, pull and encourage you to success. I've been in the Waistaways since... gosh, I don't remember. Last year some time. I've lost 103 pounds in a year and a half. I know about the highs and the lows. I've got around 25 left to lose.
September was a big low for me so here's to a happier October. I'm already cheerful since my favorite band is releasing their new CD on the 16th. I was up verrrry early yesterday to preorder my signed copy.7 -
Hi everyone! Welcome to new and returning members of Waistaways for October. I'm Michele, 56, stay at home grandma (after 20+ years teaching) and live in North Carolina. I've been a member of this team since February 2019. I am co-captain of this team with the amazing @jugar. I also run the weekly step challenge for anyone interested in an additional challenge and mostly, accountability.
So, I started this journey because I was pretty close to my all time high of 223.5 and knew I wasn't going to get healthy on my own. Joining F2F and Waistaways has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. The support, encouragement, and motivation I have gotten being part of this group has been unparalleled. My first year I lost around 25 pounds. Pretty reasonable for a woman of my age who is in the midst of heading toward menopause and all the fun stuff that comes with that. The past 6 months have been another thing. I have had plateaus before and like Liselyn said there is a lot to be learned from them. My last 6 months I have gone up and down the same 3-4 pounds and it has been frustrating, but I am still here, because going anywhere else isn't going to make the scale move. I finally had a net loss in September and plan to make October even better. I did not log in September and it went pretty well. But, I’m thinking I may log in October to see if it helps more.
My goals for October are:
1. Net loss for month - I'd like to be in the 180s by month's end.
2. Meet my daily step goal of 9,000 steps 5/7 days or more.
3. Schedule workouts at least 3x week, where I get into cardio or peak zone.
4. Eat mindfully. Stop when full.
5. Use the tracker and participate in the challenges.
Have a great October. This is an awesome group with so much collective knowledge about this journey. Glad you're here!4 -
Step Challenge October
Who is in?
If you are interested in being on our step team, let me know what your daily step goal is. You may report your steps daily or all at once at the end of the week. (Our week runs Sunday to Saturday). Please have all steps in by Sunday afternoon.

Hi all! Newbie here, I'm so glad to have found this group of great people!
A little about myself, I'm an engaged (was supposed to get married this past summer) 30yo, identity she/her, no kids, and one large spoiled dog.
I'm from Ithaca, NY and my hobbies are gardening, art (digital, watercolor, ink), sourdough caretaking, cooking, and preserving foods. Oh, and I'm a gamer in my spare time (of which seems to get less and less!).
I've restarted my weight loss journey 25 days ago, after having almost hit onederland (sub 200 lbs) around 2016 and fell off the horse (back to about 235). I'm primarily logging calories, however I've also been doing intermittent fasting and pushing myself to be more active.
My goals for this month is to get more stamina and push for 30min workout routines on Ring Fit Adventure on switch (currently hitting about 15-20min), as well as to maintain my 4-5 day workout schedule, consistently log food, and continue with IF. Long term weight wise, my healthy weight for my height is around 120, so I hope that some day I will achieve that. In the meantime, my goal this month is 10 lbs and my short-term goal is to be 180 by July 2021 (when our rescheduled wedding date is)
I'd also love to get more MFP Friends as well so feel free to add me!7 -
@ashenmoon
Welcome! It is so good to know a bit about you. I'm sure you'll find gardening, cooking, and gaming friends in here. If you're comfortable to let us know your name that would be lovely! Not everyone does, but it is good to know what to call people sometimes. We list them on the monthly spreadsheets so if you want to look anyone up, you can do that any time. Just go over to check it out any time -

It is good to make sure I put in the right weights, and to review how you are doing once you're here for a few weeks.3 -

I'm remembering the days when your goals were much more modest, or not organised at all! Look at the amazing progress you have made in activity and how you have refined so that you improve. And hitting the 180s? You can get there I'm sure! #5 makes #1-4 work You go!4 -

Kia ora everyone This is my first month on this group and I'm hoping it will help keep me accountable!
My name is Krista and I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my amazing wife, a fluffy tortoiseshell cat and a hyperactive fox terrier x border collie.
I'm using MFP regularly for the first time ever, even though I once upon a time managed to lose about 17kg (~38 lbs) a few years ago with the help of an amazing personal trainer. She's now not training anymore, due to giving birth to a beautiful set of twins, but I also took up postgrad study in Jan 2019 (via online learning - I was doing this well before it was the "cool" thing!) and decided on a career change following the well known malady of "teacher burnout". This lifestyle change resulted in starting antidepressants, allowing my well developed eating habits to slide, and a lot more of sitting on my bum whilst writing papers, I put the weight back on. Now that I'm settled into my new career, have about 6 months of my degree left, am feeling better mentally and realising that I'm bordering the obese level on the BMI scale, I figured it was about time to start the weight loss journey once more.
I've so far have lost about 2kgs (4.4lbs) since starting tracking my meals on MFP, but I would really love to lose another 17kg, through tracking calories, limiting added sugar, working on my portion sizes and staying away from the junk food. Anyone who has tips for resisting my habit of snacking while studying would be greatly appreciated! The dog also gets a decent walk in the morning, and I go to a gym class at least 3-4 times a week. I think my goal for this month would be to be down about another 2.5kgs (5.5lbs). Also, please feel free to add me as an MFP friend!
Looking forward to the month and getting to know all of you.

Hi everyone. I'm Jess/ Spyro! I'm 31 and live on the South Coast of the UK. I joined this group back at the beginning of September and very happy to be back here again! It has really spurred me on to keep going with my weight loss and I have loved the group chit chat and getting to know people. @jugar and @micki48 are fab team captains and motivators.
I'm happy to accept friend requests from anyone in this group
Welcome to the new members! @AshenMoon I think we have a lot in common - I am a gamer too and an artist! Do you have an instagram? I'd love to see your work. I have been considering buying Ring Fit Adventure too, do you find it a good workout? I am worried I would just play it twice and get bored of it haha
I am also engaged and was due to get married back in April. We have postponed to April 2021. We were so gutted, especially about cancelling our honeymoon to Japan! So I know how it feels... here's hoping we can have our weddings next year!
Best of luck to everyone for October!

Hello all!
I'm thick in the midst of end-of-week-and-month tallies for all the teams - so just a quick hi! I am so excited that we have our first member from New Zealand! Where tomorrow starts today! Welcome @coffeetwist It is fine to report your weights in kg - I live in Canada where we are all bilingual, and the calculation is on speed dial. We have lots of members in Canada, the UK, and Europe, so report in whatever you like. I still can't quite get my head around stone, but that's what calculators are for, right? The spreadsheet is in pounds, so we make do.
Everyone on the team should send friend requests to me and my awesome co-captain @micki48 . If we send out too many at once, mfp thinks we're starting a scam or something. So please friend us both! Thanks!
back later. gotta get those stats done4 -
Hello all! Welcome new friends. My name is Kelly. I am a wife and mother 4 ranging in age from 1 to 16. I teach Kindergarten Special Education. I have been 2ith the team since January. I made huge strives this spring with body recomposition but this summer my weight really started to go up. I am FINALLY losing weight after stopping nursing my youngest. I love to workout. I feel so much centered when I workout. I usually find that I do better with my diet when I workout. Unfortunately,
my baby likes to wake up very early, often making it difficult for me to workout. In September, I really focused on my nutrition and steps. Now, I would really like to add my workouts back in. The baby had been sleeping until 6am the past few days. I hope that trend continues. If not, I am going to try to workout with her.🤷♀️5 -

Wow @spyro88 we do have a lot in common! Here's my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/hellmoonhv/ I've been a bit light on work with it being inktober (planning my posts in groupings for inktober). I'd love to see your work as well!
RFA is great, it's really like you're playing a video game - there's leveling/stats, gear, consumables (you collect ingredients for Stat boosting smoothies), various monsters with different abilities, and really scenic environments that you jog through. It's a great workout too, the first 5 or 6 sessions got me breathing hard and sweating in 15 minutes haha 😁. People rave about it on the RFA subreddit too, even experienced/fit people are impressed with the workout it gives them.3 -
Welcome @AshenMoon and @coffeetwist !
It makes me so happy to see other fitness gamers. I haven't picked up Ring Fit but I got a chance to try it at a health expo last February and it was super fun. I get most of my burns from a game called Beat Saber.
We got some really good news yesterday, some good friends of ours are expecting a baby! So if anyone has ideas on good gifts to get soon to be new parents I would appreciate some insight.6 -
Great reminder - you are always right on time with the Sunday weigh-ins, @YinxFed so I will now remind @krcapone78 that it is the day! Post that number here. Thanks!2
-
The Green Challenge Percentage of people who lost weight this week. No matter how small the loss the weights are recorded in green. Remember that even if your team doesn’t rank the highest in weight loss for the week you can still be the Green Percentage winner by having the most losses in your team! So keep it up!!1

It is so wonderful to have Megan as our new Moderator! And here I am, leaving her to make her own introductions to the teams... Some group owner I am But I have a good excuse. Tally day. End of month. Lots of new members - it's all good, and this is why we need Megan to join us! I'm thrilled.2 -

DUE TODAY!
@krcapone78
I know you just signed up, but with a Sunday weigh-in you're always the first in the week! Just let us know if you will stick with your starting weight or if there is an update. Thanks!1 -
@terytha How exciting that your friends are expecting! Pregnancy is different for everyone but usually in general it's exhausting. Gift cards to restaurants are always good. She may not feel like cooking or if she has morning sickness her other half will still be hungry. I also used an awesome sleep book and I know lots of others who use the same book with similar results. It's called Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child. They would want to read it before baby arrives because you start from day one. All 3 of my kids slept through the night at 3 months. When I say sleep through the night, I mean 12 straight hours!!! YESSS! Most people have these results and I love sleep.3

Sunday weigh in:
PW - 183.4
CW - 183.2
Steps and exercise update for 3rd October:

Happy Sunday everyone!
Of course you can!!! Glad to have you Yinka!
Who else plans to be on/continue with the step challenge?
