I finished "The Friendship List" and am now focusing on "How the Light Gets In."

@bebeisfit Now that's a journey, 1000 pages!
It's 1150 pages! Sometimes I think Stephen King is paid by the word??
I hope I can finish before it's due at the library.0 -
Hi all,
I’m reading “The Invisible Life of Addie Larue”, by V.E. Schwab and “American Royals” by Katherine McGee. Both books are excellent and I would recommend them.0 -
Thanks for recommendations!Nice to see you in the Book Nook 😊0
-
@bebeisfit Oh man, that would be discouraging reading for a couple hours and only having a small percentage read! It's a really good book, I have a lot of my hardbacks in boxes still and haven't come across it yet. Mine is the unabridged version too!
@Luckee_me That book sounds really interesting, I remember you talking about it now! Such a weird premise, you wouldn't have any really deep relationships because people would forget you right away so that familiarity and comfort that you'd gain getting to know each other wouldn't be there.0 -
I finished David Goggins Can't Hurt Me, I really enjoyed reading about his childhood and in the service but reading of all the marathons he ran while his body was falling apart was repetitive and he's lucky to be alive. His attitude is to stay hard at all costs and be the baddest guy around, I can see why he's that way with how he grew up and I tend to take a somewhat "tough" attitude but he's on a whole different level.
I'm back to the book my Hannah Kristen about the family that moves to Alaska, it's getting better so I'm planning on reading a lot today. I need to look up the one you all recommended by her! I want my SIL to read them too, I think she'd enjoy her.0 -
I need to check the name of the Hannah Kristen, I know Alone is in the title. The Dad was in Vietnam and has a lot of issues, it's frustrating me that the mom won't leave him. He badly needs therapy or needs a good whack upside the head with a shovel. If she leaves him soon or he dies I'll keep reading it or if the daughter leaves home as I'm not reading 300 more pages of people getting abused. It's one thing in non-fiction but unless it makes a point soon I'm done.0
-
@Katmary71 That's a tough call. If you still have 300 more pages to go, you may want to give it up. There's a lot of abuse and it was hard to read for that reason. However I couldn't put it down because the story was compelling.0
-
@bebeisfit @trooworld I finished the Hannah Kristin, it was disturbing but good. I won't give it away, I wouldn't pass this one on to my SIL though, she's very strictly feel-good only stuff.
Ironically I started watching Firefly Lane and didn't realize it was her too! Do you recommend the book first? I'm only two in so it's not a big deal to wait.
I'm now reading a Carla Neggers book, Stonebrook Cottage. She has people that are in other books but they are stand alone as well. It's good so far, not a real grabber but worth finishing.
I got my library app to work and of course I want to read a bunch of books. You'd laugh if I could post pictures, I literally have thousands of unread books IN my house plus a ton on the Kindle because of sharing with my mom, I like them but they're not my favorite type of books, I feel like a whole world just opened up since my library hasn't been open and I've been unable to drive to the others.0 -
@Luckee_me OK, I'm number 520 on the waitlist for The Invisible Life, it's going to be a classic before I get it!
What other Hannah Kristin's would you recommend? I also am in line for The Stand, I think I'll probably just finish unpacking my hardbacks, I've lived here for 15 years!0 -
I finished The Stand by Stephen King.
Over 1300 pages. It wasn't as scary as I had thought. The story itself was very good, but honestly it was way too long. This version was released 10 years after the first edition with an additional 150 pages.
I only gave it 3 stars for that very reason. Of course once I had gotten so far I wanted to see it through the end.

I really don't like Stephen King...sorry.0

Lol. I didn't think I did either. This one was definitely too wordy.0 -
I'm currently reading "The Book of Lost Names"
Historical fiction set in WWII about a young Jewish French girl who is helping to forge documents for the resistance.

That sounds really interesting @bebeisfit , let me know how you like it when you're done!
I'm starting The Friendship List after I post, I finished the first of the Lily Harper Hart series so it's time for something different but it's a good book if you like her books, you'd want to read her series first since it has characters from them.0 -
@Katmary71 I finished The Book of Lost Names". It was good, but not great. I felt like it lacked something..but I'm not sure. It was a fast read and I love WWII stories and I did learn a bit about the forgery process and a bit about the Resistance itself. 3 stars..maybe 3.5

Currently reading "The Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes
I'm only on the 2nd chapter and am enjoying it.0 -
@bebeisfit It sounds interesting. If you like WWII and you haven't read it you would like Flight Girls, it was the best book I'd read in awhile.
I'm reading a Doidge novel about dragons, it's real slow, I don't really like it but I only have 10% left so I'll finish it. I was on the last of a trilogy and share my Kindle account with my Mom, she started the series and it kept wanting to change the location so I called her and it's because she was reading it too so I started the Doidge novel. One time she deleted a book when I was reading it on the exercise bike, I had no clue how I'd managed to do that and was relieved when I figured out what she did but wanted to know how the book ended!0 -
@Luckee_me @trooworld I'm so glad I found it, do you recommend The Invisible Life of Addie Larue? I saw a Black Mirror episode on Netflix that made me think of it and couldn't remember the name, so glad I found it! I'll put it on waitlist but would love to know what you think!
I'm back to the series on Kindle by Lily Harper Hart, I like the last out of the three best, she combined characters from 3 or 4 different series in this trilogy which has been fun. It isn't the kind of book I'll remember for long but it is entertaining.0 -
@Katmary71 I did read Flight Girls and really enjoyed it. There's another book about the girls who flew planes in WWII by Fannie Flagg. The All Girls Filling Station's Reunion.
I don't know why I enjoy WWII so much. I've probably read a dozen books or more set in that time period.
I really need to learn more about WWI. Any recommendations?0 -
I finished Louise Penny's "How the Light Gets In." I was really looking forward to it after finishing the previous book in the series, but I have to say I was disappointed. I'd probably rate it 3 out of 5 stars, although I'm really thinking 2.5.
The story seemed to drag on a lot more than usual, and I felt I was really being asked to suspend disbelief in a lot of instances. Also, I think I realized what annoys me about this series. It's only my opinion, but I find the author's "hero worship" of Armand Gamache to be very off-putting.
I'm sure I'll read or listen to another Louise Penny novel; something keeps me revisiting this series. But it's time for a break, I think.
Earlier this morning I started reading "Stranger In The Lake" by Kimberly Belle.0 -
Finished Jefferson's Daughters.Loved it, was so interesting. Would love to exchange on it with anyone who is up for reading it.0
-
I started "The Promised Land" by Barack Obama
Really good so far. It's a long one tho.0 -
@bebeisfit I can't think of any other WWII ones, I'm glad you liked Flight Girls!
I've put a bunch of books on hold through the library but am currently between novels so I started a Medical Medium book on the liver.0 -
I finished Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah (author of Firefly Lane - streaming on Netflix and The Great Alone).
I am so disappointed. It was a good story overall, but some of the writing and character development was just so-so. The ending was bad. I won't give spoilers, but it didn't add up.
It was a quick read, so there's that.
@trooworld - I will put American Dirt on my "Later" list.0 -
@trooworld I'm curious about American Dirt! The Lost Apothecary sounds good.
@bebeisfit I'm sorry to hear that about the Hannah Kristin, I'm hoping to read more of hers.
I read The Coast to Coast Murders by Patterson, it was good but not great. I'm between books and getting some from my brother tonight, I have a couple diet books that just became available through the library so I'll probably read Gregor's How Not to Diet today.0 -
@trooworld Wow, I'll have to place a hold on it then! Let me know if it ends well too!
How Not To Diet is on audio, I didn't realize it when I checked it out. I have a hard time listening to things, I prefer reading so I'll probably skip it unless I listen to it while gardening.
My mom told me about The Truth Machine the other night so I'm reading that now, it's pretty good so far. Have any of you read it?0 -
@trooworld I'll add it to the list! I think I went a little crazy putting things on hold because now they're all becoming available and I'm feeling pressured to read like a maniac! The Obesity Code and Medical Medium just became available so I'm backed up a bit! Luckily my Mom forgot to give me a couple books so it's all on the Kindle, I can deny the book but I have about 30% of The Truth Machine left so I can catch up.0
-
@trooworld Thank you, I'll check it out!
The Truth Machine was good but if you've read a lot of sci fi it's not anything earth-shattering. I'd group it as one of the "humans overdo it with technology and don't think of the consequences" books. You all read a lot so you know what I mean.
I'm reading Jackson Galaxy's (My Cat From Hell) book on Cat Mojo. I have The Obesity Code and Medical Medium up after this and still have How Not To Diet on Audio but it won't let me put it on 1/5 speed so I get bored listening.0 -
Am reading Shakespeare's Rebel by C.C. Humphries.0
