HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. At the end of the month we celebrate everyone who lost every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:

Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captains here on your team chat page. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions and weigh in if you want to, but your weigh-ins will not be counted on the weekly tally. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are travelling, sick, or just needing some time off.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You need support to maintain, and you can help your teammates join you. You continue to weigh in every week, and if you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

How is it almost June already?! Wow!
I’m on track to lose 6 or so lbs in May so I think my June goal will be to lose an additional 6 lbs.
My fitness goal is to get part of my home gym set up and start the Stronglifts 5x5 program
Diet wise, I plan to keep doing what I’m doing except maybe add in a little more protein.
My weekly step goal I think will be 56k since some days I get a long walk in but some days I don’t.6 -
Hi all and welcome to the Downsizers June team chat! My name is Linda and I am one of the team captains. My counterpart is the amazing Megan @Megan_smartiepants1970. Our motivator is the wonderful Theresa @theresam787.
I am originally from Newfoundland but I live in Southwestern Ontario. I am 56 years old, married, retired due to a disability and have 3 adult children. I also have 3 beautiful granddaughters. Hayley and Norah live in Ontario but little Stella lives in Scotland. I also have 2 fur babies, Nick and Lady.
I struggled with my weight since the birth of my son 33 years ago. So I have been overweight most of my adult life. I started my weight loss journey in February 2019 and have been with F2F ever since. I have had a couple of ups and downs since starting my journey but I never gave up. In May I revamped my eating and I am planning on losing at least 4 pounds this month. I try to walk every day but I am limited on how far due to issues with my back. We have an exercise room and a pool in our building but due to Covid-19 restrictions they are closed. Right now the tent I’ve reopening for gyms and indoor pools is July 23rd so I am hopeful.
June goals
1. Sleep minimum 7 hours a night.
2. 6,000 steps daily
3. Walk daily
4. Lose 4 poundsHousekeeping
Weigh In
We will post a weigh in reminder every day. If you can’t weigh in just let me know. Please use the following format for reporting your weight as it makes it much easier for us to record.

Hi, I am Deb, 57 years old, divorced female. I started my health journey on March 8, 2020 when Covid was diagnosed less than an hour from my home. I had 5 pre-existing conditions that would result in a poor outcome if I were to contract Covid. I weighed myself that day but did not take pictures or measurements. I knew that something needed to be done and started walking. At first, I could only walk 10 minutes. By June, I was walking 2 miles a day but then developed an overuse injury and spent 2 months ib physical therapy before being cleared to walk again. I started lifting weights again in June when the free recreation center reopened to limited capacity and mask wearing while exercising. In November my fiance of 9 years developed Covid. He was hospitalized on Thanksgiving, placed on a ventilator December 6, His kidneys failed the 9th(his birthday) and the hospital called me for contact info on his adult children. The kids allowed me to visit him in the Covid ward and to sit in on the doctor's request to remove him from life support. He died within minutes of its removal. The silence after he passed was the hardest part for me. He spoke to me constantly and would serenade me with his guitar. His children gave me the guitar which I treasure for the memories. I must have developed some coping and emotional regulation skills since I only overate once on the day Kevin was buried.
Since then I have lost 78.5 pounds(though I am currently up 6 pounds due to 2 weeks of excess eating and a month of no walking and upper body only resistance training. Darn boredom and anxiety and loss of Kevin's support! Am so glad to start weighing in again for accountability though not expecting to loose the gained weight until I can completely resume exercise again.
Welcome to all our new members and glad to read about all of our returning members.7 -

Hi everyone. I'm Roger. I'm married, 56. I have an adult daughter, 32. I've been losing weight since march, 2019. I was house-bound for 1 1/2 years due to my weight. I was unable to walk 150 feet or fit into a vehicle. I started getting home based care from the V.A. I weighed 566 pounds. I had to learn everything from scratch. I started walking after 6 months and losing 30 pounds. I joined MFP last september and have lost 100 pounds on it and 253 pounds overall. I started in a gym about 3 weeks ago so i don't lose much more muscle. While my weight loss has been steady my health has gone up and down. I'm fighting daily dizziness and my doctor is trying to figure out why. It'll be fun to watch all of you on your journey to better health.7

@Tazaria87 congrats on becoming half off. With all of the amazing work you've done i'm amazed at your strength and stamina and determination.
check in for 5/29:
steps - watch says 1000 but i haven't worn it most of the day. trying to let a sore i developed under it heal. i have stayed home most of the day anyway due to giving blood yesterday.
calories - well under 1800. i'm going to have some cherry crisp later after it cools down but i'll still be well under.
exercise - went to the gym with daughter but didn't do much. started getting light headed right away and it got worse as i went along. had to stop after 5 machines. about 30 minutes overall. no walk today since i didn't want to chance it again. i'll be walking in the morning when we take daughter to work.7 -

One of the many benefits of our incredibly supportive team, is how we freely share tips that have helped us with weight loss. What tips would you like to share about weight loss?
Here is a podcast episode that focuses solely on tips:

Hello everyone - I'm Jim and I've been a member of Downsizers since the start of 2021. I'm married and a proud father of four (2 girls and 2 boys ranging between 15 - 24) living in St. Louis, Missouri. I started my weight loss journey in the Spring of 2019 steadily losing 35 lbs (240 starting weight) and then gaining about 15 lbs back when my work-life situation changed during COVID. Working from home (and life in general) was pretty stressful and the pantry full of the kids junk food was too convenient and it took its toll.
I re-started my weight-loss and fitness plan last December and was off to a great start but recently developed something that appears to be a hernia in the last 2 weeks (thankfully I'm not in any real pain) so I've stopped exercising until I can get in to see my doctor on June 7th. For now, I'm just trying to eat reasonably healthy to maintain status quo and hope to get back on track soon.
Wishing everyone a productive month!7 -
Good morning everyone, my name is Theresa. I am the Team Motivator 🎉 Our encouraging Team Captains are Linda @lindamtuck2018 and Megan @Megan_smartiepants1970.
I am currently in maintenance and learning how to alter my eating habits to maintain and not gain (ha! sounds like an infomercial slogan 😆). I love this team, you have been so supportive and encouraging. Your help and accountability has helped me go from losing to maintaining. I would have thrown in the towel so many times, but then you would offer your personal stories and it would convince me to start again. Thank you so much 🤗
I began by learning how to eat better. Who knew that an entire sleeve of Oreos wasn't one serving? I mean it's packed in a SLEEVE, of course it MUST be a serving. I also learned that my wine and beer had an insane amount of calories. It's not my fault my wine glasses are the size of Renaissance Fair goblets. It's still one glass.
I read (well listened to) Atomic Habits - which taught me how to change my mindset about that once dirty word - exercise. I learned to pair my morning coffee, love drinking coffee while responding to emails, with riding the stationary bike (which I once thought was an evil contraption designed by the devil himself). In the beginning, I could only go for five minutes, while standing. I'd be winded, exhausted. I kept trying, every week adding just one more minute to standing until I'm finally at 30 minutes of standing while riding. Now, I'm working on increasing speed. If you haven't read (listened to) Atomic Habits, it's a good one.
Megan's Step Challenge and all of the Downsizer's posts about their daily steps motivated me to start walking. I quickly learned that I need to work my way up to the ladder on that one also. My goal is to just get out there everyday. Ok, my goal is 10,000 steps, and I'd really like to be able to walk 4 miles every day, it's just hard finding time between family obligations (did you hear my excuse, I"m good at excuses).
With that said, I need to drain this cup of coffee and get out there before it gets too hot and before the rest of the family wakes up.
Welcome back team and welcome home to our new comers!7 -

For those new members, my name is Rachel and I am 43. I am a married mom of two kids, one very old dog and two naughty kitties. I live in Massachusetts. I love the beach and hate the cold winters. Last year rocked my world as I have not worked since April when covid hit as I work in the travel Industry. So glad things are starting to rebound as I need to more seriously focus on getting back to work.
Last year I committed to working out more and succeeded, I am slowly and I mean very slowly losing the covid pounds. Then I need to stay the coarse and tackle the weight that crept on prior.
My weight has gone up and down my whole life. I have never been what doctors would say is a healthy weight but I have at times been more comfortable with my weight. I had lost weight but 20 lbs crept back on over the last 3 years slowly bringing me to my highest weight with the exception of being pregnant.
I have been with the group since October and really I really enjoy it. I keep coming back daily because I refuse to give up on myself and I enjoy reading about other team members journeys and the support.5 -
Steps 6,096
Yesterday was truly a lazy day as opposed to my lazy day on Friday were I cleaned and did projects. I did do my back/biceps strength work out. Too much time in the house with the rain left me snacking. We have two more days of cold rain here. At least I wasn’t stuck on soccer fields in this weather like some of my friends.3 -
This week's challenge is up! Give something up for the week and feel amazing.

Small loss this week. But it’s a loss and the first one in a long time. I started strong this week but then slipped as the long weekend started. I need to figure a way to keep things in control as the weekend approaches. That will be my goal for this week.3 -

I feel for you Jim.... I just had my 2nd hernia surgery on April 28th ...This one was more intense because it was an Incisional hernia...My 1st one was a tubal ligation back in 2005 after my daughter was born ...I am finally able to resume my walks which will start tomorrow ...I am excited .... Best wishes to you when you get yours done2 -
I just realized that June will be 1 whole year that I have been with this amazing group .... I appreciate every single one of you .... You have helped me in more ways than you know ........Tomorrow I start walking with my clan ....getting back on Keto tomorrow which I am excited about and so is my waist (convenient food is now done thank goodness) swimming in my pool, possibly trying PIYO which is a low impact beach body program and doing intermittent fasting again ( I had great success in the past) if I can't lose weight this month then something is seriously wrong .. I am happy to be more involved in our group this month now that my hernia surgery is behind me4

My biggest tip is to pre log your food. I do it for a week in advance as I make a menu for the week. I just add the serving sizes when I weigh my food at each meal or snack.2 -
My biggest tip is do not just rely on the scale ...sometimes it lies to us and derails us .... take measurements or how does your clothes fit is also a good measurement to tell us well my pants fit looser so I am losing weight2 -
A friendly reminder that I need the following people's steps
@Tazaria87 5/29
@red1185 5/29
If I do not have your steps by the evening of 5/31 I will be zeroing them out
Thanks for your cooperation ladies1 -
Thank you to all that did an introduction. It is fun to read and learn a little bit about everyone.
@rwood566
Great day with calories! I hope they figure your dizziness out. It’s not fun. If the band on the Fitbit is bothering you maybe replacing it with a different kind of material might help. There are all kinds on Amazon.
@rlaskey2
I love lazy days. Your right though, it always leads to more snacking. Great job on doing your workout.
@azkunk
Nice loss! Weekends are problematic for me too. I have been working hard to change this over the last few weeks. It went from having a small treat on Fridays to treats the entire weekend. I have got it back to just Saturdays but I am still having too many treats. That’s what I am working on now. Do you still average your calories?
@Megan_smartiepants1970
Happy 1 year! I just got back to intermittent fasting also. It really helped me before so we will see how it does this month.

About me ... I started this chapter of my weight loss journey one year ago when I turned 49 and vowed to lose 50 lbs by 50. I ended up losing 30 which was shy of my goal but still an accomplishment. Lately, I have lost some of my motivation but I am starting to regain it. I have 2 kids, a 14 yr old boy and an 11 yr old girl. My daughter is a competitive dancer so taking her to and from her dance commitments keep me busy. I recently got a promotion at work which officially takes effect today. My goals for this month will focus on staying on track since this month is busy for dance ... June recitals mean 8 shows and 4 different days for recitals, in addition to the continued 5 hours of dance class per week. Plus, the new responsibilities of the director job while searching for the person to replace me and pick up my specialist work.
June Goals:
1. Row 20 minutes 5x/ wk by the end of June
2. Limit take out to 4x total this month
3. Track EVERYTHING as accurately as possible
I had my first loss in weeks this week and I am not going to focus on the scale this month. This month, it is all about tracking accurately, getting back into rowing, limiting takeout/ cafeteria meals and hitting my nutrition/ water goals. If I focus on those things, the scale will fall in line.
Welcome to the newbies and I wish all of us a successful month
