I hope things work out for Walter and that his antiques bring him some money. If nothing else, this is getting his house a bit more straightened out and hopefully safer as well. Hang in there Shari, you are doing so well a weight drop can't be too far away.

I worked hard today cleaning out some cupboards in our bathroom. I got rid of lots of expired over the counter meds, prescription meds, makeup, and just stuff I haven't used in years. I got several bags for the trash. I love having extra space in these cupboards and how well organized they now are. I have a considerable list to Saturday to do items, but John and I are also registered to participate in a church education Zoom from 10 am to 4 pm. Since it is so long an a Zoom I told John he could participate all day and I will just pay attention to the sessions I am most interested in.

Tony made it home yesterday. DH (Jim) could't pick him up as he is working on a fence and has a small crew helping him. Tony had to take a cab, but then called to ask for help to get into the house. Jim had to explain that he wasn't nearby, also the reason we were not able to bring him home from the hospital. He will pop over today to see how they are doing.

I also love sorting through things Paula. I may have time to clear some stuff out and then do a drop off at Value Village Thrift Store. That is a full day course for John. I hope it very engaging and educational.

Good news that Tony is home. Also good that he was resourceful enough to take a cab home.

The church education Zoom today was very good. Some sessions were better than others. I listened to at least some parts of all of them, and there were some presentations that I participated in in their entirety. John and I were familiar with some of the presenters and unfamiliar with some of the others. The topics varied, so there was something for just about everyone. I am glad we did this. John LOVES this kind of stuff and was very attentive through all of the presentations. I got a few of my to do items crossed off but didn't over do it. We had leftovers for supper so cooking wasn't an issue for me today.

Sounds like you both had a very good day Paula. That is great. We had a very rainy and windy day, so I didn't spend anytime outside. Hopefully we can finish tidying up the backyard in a day or two.

I am cooking a roast for dinner and have three guests coming by. I will change up my day of rest for tomorrow.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner and guests today Shari. Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy it restfully!

I am checking in early and heading to bed. My stomach has been queasy all day. I hope getting to bed early helps it settle down. I have a lot on my list to take care of in the next 2 days with our family arriving Wednesday late morning/early afternoon.

We had a really nice dinner with a small gathering. The meal was delicious and everyone visited well. I am thankful for another day off from work, and even more excited for our trip to Vancouver on Thursday. I will need to pack today as my next two days are busy.

I am praying that you were able to wake up feeling much better and can tackle your list with much energy.

Hello! Shari, Happy Thanksgiving! Paula, I hope you are feeling better! You both have such a busy and exciting week ahead!
I had a busy Saturday with a dog club picnic a couple of hours away. I was in charge but had a lot of help and it went well. On Sunday I went to church and then worked out with my friend. Tomorrow evening DD comes back. She has sent me photos and seemed to be having fun!

I hope you both have a wonderful week with your visit/visitors!!

DW, Glad your picnic went well. It means so much when others pitch in to help. Happy for your DD to be having fun. I am sure that warms your heart a great deal.

Shari, Thank you for your prayers. I felt much better today and was incredibly productive. I am excited for you to be going to Vancouver. Will pray for your safe travels.

Craig was here for about 4 hours helping me with a lot. He is very good for reaching things I cannot reach and lifting and moving things that are too heavy for me. He also used the leaf blower to clean up the breezeway. What a good difference that made! My meals are planned for Wednesday and Thursday. My cousin Sherry and her DH might come on Friday and if so will bring a meal. My cleaning service comes on Tuesday and will make the house relatively clean and sparkling. The floor installer is coming early Wednesday morning to once again remove more glue that has seeped through the panels. It is amazing how this is still happening. Our family expects to be here around noon on Wednesday. I think I will be mostly ready for them by then.

DW- I would love to hear more about the dog picnic! Glad it went well, it can't be easy planning for an event that is so far away from home. Hopefully you are/were familiar with the venue.

Paula- I hope the flooring will be okay. I don't think it's normal for the glue to take this long to set. It would be tragic if they need to redo the flooring for a fourth time. Let's hope the glue sets over the next couple of days before your company arrives.

I had a good day yesterday. I didn't end up resting as we had to winterize our yard. I spent some time at Walter's. We got the second room that he wanted in order all set up. That should be it. I hope they can keep it tidy now. Walter is really worried about us travelling to Vancouver. I don't understand why. I am not at all worried and looking forward to the trip. I would be impacted negatively if I wasn't able to go see my son from time to time.

Walter might be concerned about your travel because he is somewhat dependent on you. You and your DH probably are a bit of a security blanket for him. It is kind of cute in a way. I imagine he will do ok while you are away but will be very happy when you get back. I am excited for you to be going to see your son. Our time with our kids is precious for sure.

I had a very busy day as the TX relatives arrive tomorrow. We spoke on the phone tonight, and I am really looking forward to having some good quality time with them. Most of my prep work is finished, and I will deal with whatever comes along as best as I can. I am planning to head to bed early tonight as I have to be up quite early for the flooring guy to come on Wednesday.

Paula- that is true. I am finding that Walter can be very manipulative to get what he wants. I see that, and I don't let that pressure impact my decisions of what to do while I am there or in my own life. Walter and Tony are very dependant people, and I am happy to be able to help them out. It is a good place for me to serve, and from the heart. I do care about them.

I have a full day of work today and then we need to be at the airport quite early. I think I will stay up later to get things finalized rather than get up extra early.

Shari, will be thinking of you and praying for you as you travel. Enjoy your time with your DS! My TX family arrived today. It was a very full day and evening. I am completely exhausted. My pain level was high before they got here in the afternoon, and it is still rather high. Tomorrow they and John are going on a "road trip" to a monastery about 90 minutes from here. I will use the time they are away to rest up. I expect they will be gone about 6 hours at least. I will miss them, especially John of course, but will use my time wisely.

Hello! I hope you are both doing well and enjoying your time with family! We spent a couple of days in crisis mode around here but all is well now.
On Tuesday afternoon DH accidentally left our younger dog in her crate with her collar on. When I got home from work, he said that the brass clip from her leash was hanging from her collar but the leash was missing. I asked if she’d eaten it and he insisted that it wasn’t possible. We both looked all over the yard, the house, and in her crate but no sign of it. We were to meet DD at the airport that evening but we stopped at an urgent care vet to find out if she had eaten a 6’ leather leash. After some X-rays, they thought they saw something in her stomach, made her throw up and sure enough, pieces of leash came up. They got what they could but it wasn’t all of it and they suggested taking her somewhere else or back there the next day. We left the vet practice and went to the airport to get DD. On Wednesday DH took her to Medvet in Columbus-more tests and finally they did an endoscopy and retrieved 7 more pieces from her stomach. Thankfully none made it to her intestines! She has been fine since getting home on Wednesday evening! I’m hoping for a quiet weekend-a little cleaning, some Saturday football on tv, church Sunday and a workout Sunday late afternoon .
I hope you both have a wonderful weekend!!

Oh my gosh DW! What a story about your dog. Praise God she is ok. I can just imagine the vet bills. I hope your weekend is restful and peaceful.

It has been a stressful few days with our visiting family. My cousin's wife can be very difficult to say the least. Most often I overlook her bossiness, criticisms, know-it-all-comments, etc. Well, today I overheard her criticizing me in whispers to my cousin Sherry. It was the last straw. I approached her and told her I overheard her comments and didn't appreciate them. She made an excuse, kind of tried to gloss over it, and mumbled "I'm sorry." Her husband (my cousin) is unaware of what happened, and I plan to keep it that way for now. She, her husband, and John went to a religious bookstore on Thursday, and she had a temper tantrum in the bookstore with the manager to the point that John apologized to the manager for her behavior. I know her DH knows what a difficult person she is.

Oh Paula, what a rough visit! I’m so sorry that you and John are having to deal with this person! I hope that spending time with your cousins is bringing some positivity!
My dog is doing well-as if nothing happened -the only sign that anything happened is my bank account 😂😂😂

Today I am having dinner with some former coworkers/friends. I’m excited to see them! I took tomorrow off work and plan to clean my guest room in preparation for my sisters Christmas shopping weekend, which is 11/7-11/11. I hope you have a wonderful Monday!

DW, I hope you enjoyed your time with your friends. It is always good when you can catch up with people who mean so much to us. Glad your dog is doing well now. What a scare!

I am still very much out of sorts, mostly tired/exhausted from the relatives visiting. I really didn't do anything much today except rest and some minor cleaning up, but of course there is always more to do. I really wasn't very hungry and have plenty of leftovers to keep both John and me satisfied for a while yet. I hope to be more productive on Tuesday.

We made it to Vancouver and back and had a lovely time. I caught up on all of the chat. Paula, I am so sorry that your cousin's wife was unkind with her words. You are a wonderful woman with so much kindness and compassion towards others. DW-I can't believe that your dog was able to or wanted to eat her leash. I am glad she is okay!

I will just leave a short check in this morning as I chose to sleep in a bit more before starting my work day. It is a longer day as we have youth. I have lunch and dinner to pack to take to the office. I am back to tracking and eating well after a week away where my meal plan was out the window.

Welcome back Shari. Great to read that you enjoyed your visit! Thanks for your words of support. I am still "recovering" from a long stressful several days. Slowly I am getting back to healthy eating. I did my share of stress eating during and after their visit. I feel quite sad that my cousin's wife is that way. I think she can bring out the worst in him. Craig picked up a big grocery order for me today. I am happy to have my "regular" healthy foods in stock again. We had way too much food and too much of a variety of less-than-healthy food while our family visited. Getting back to normal feels good.

It is good to be back. Like you, Paula, I need to get back to healthy eating. I didn't too bad until the end. Then we seemed to eat out more and I know the food wasn't healthy. I had intentions on eating well yesterday, but I failed miserably. I have all of meals planned out for today, so I just need to stick to the plan. I know that I can do it, I did it before the trip. That's my pep talk to myself! We got this. We are resilient!

I agree Shari, we got this! I did really well getting back on track today and feel so much better with returning to my usual daily routine, including my food choices. Sometimes a break from routine is welcome, but the past week was just too much of a break for me and too much deviation from healthy choices (and of course too much stress). My TX family called today and seemed to say they wanted to come back to visit again but didn't say when. I was polite and kind in response. I think I will be better prepared (or perhaps braced) for them next time.

I did okay getting back on track, but I did eat a few extra snack items that I did not need. We are having dinner out tonight at a Brazilian steakhouse. I am good to eat the meat/protein, along with potatoes and carrots. If I can stick that, I will be okay with my choices. I won't be able to track since I won't be weighing my food at the restaurant. Once this meal is done, I can be back to plan.

It is nice your family would like to visit again, let's hope it goes better and isn't too soon Paula!

Yum on the Brazilian steakhouse Shari. I have been to several over the years and loved them. Your choices of potatoes and carrots along with the protein definitely appeal to me!

I had a mediocre day today. I stayed in my point range but could have made some healthier choices. I was kind of tired through the day but perked up later tonight, as I often do. However, I did accomplish some major to do tasks. Tomorrow will be another busy day as we are getting company on Sunday. I will spent a good part of Saturday prepping for our visitors. Buster is going out on Saturday to a Halloween parade at a local independent pet supply store/doggy day care. The gal who trained him with us a few summers ago still works there and asked if she could "borrow" him for the event. The trainer is going as the Mask character played my Jim Carrey. I don't recall the movie, but I understand there is a dog named Milo in the movie and apparently there is a slight resemblance between Milo and Buster. I hope Buster does well and that the trainer brings up photos.

Dinner was very good and I have no idea how much I ended up eating. I know I was way over. Back to business today! It was so good and I am trying to not feel guilty about it.

The Halloween parade sounds fun! I am sure Buster will do well and come home exhausted.

Not much new to report on today.

Hello Paula and Shari!! Welcome back Shari! I’m happy to hear that you had a great time!! Paula, I’m glad you have had some recovery time following your company! I hope that Buster enjoyed the Halloween festivities!

I took the “leash eater” to a Halloween party at the kennel club this past Thursday. We didn’t do a costume but she did enjoy the games and participated appropriately.

I also need to get a handle on my eating- between the season changes and work stress I have not been making good choices and my weight continues to bounce around a 2 pound range and not going lower. At work there seems to be quite a bit of illness among the staff. I am putting my flu and Covid vaccines to the test! I hope you both have a blessed Sunday!!

DW, your doggy Halloween party sounds like fun. I hope all 3 of us get a handle on our eating as we begin a new week.

Here is Buster at the Halloween event as "Milo." He had a great time and came home with a doggy trick or treat bag filled with delicious snacks and treats. Shari, you are right…Buster came home exhausted. He loved connecting with his former trainer again and very clearly remembered her. She looks great too in the costume. She is a terrific gal.

I had a very productive and busy day today. I had quite a long to do list and accomplished almost everything. My eating remained so-so, not over the top with points but not making the healthiest choices I could have…..and making the excuse that I was too busy to eat more healthily. I am in relatively good shape for our guests tomorrow. My hope is that they do not very long. I really want to spend some time resting and relaxing on Sunday as I sure didn't rest or relax today.

Wow! What a fantastic photo Paula! Thank you for sharing it.
DW- Thanks for mentioning the vaccines. I still need to get mine done. I hope to soon.
Sounds like we all need to get to some good eating routines. We can and we will!

My day should be an easy one. We will go see my parents later, but other than that, it will be a day of rest.

Shari, I hope you had a good visit with your parents and that you found time to rest too. Our afternoon with our visitors was absolutely wonderful! They did stay a lot longer than I expected, but the time just flew by. We have a lot in common, and they just have amazing interesting stories to tell. The couple who came live about 2 hours away and we were also joined by a friend of ours from the Miracle League. It was nice to see our ML friend get to know our other friends and vice versa. John really enjoyed the entire visit too. After our guests left I slept for about an hour or so, and I know I needed it. I was also pleased with how much I accomplished in straightening up the house etc. and prepping a few finger foods to serve.

Please pray for me as I have an appointment with my electrocardiologist Monday afternoon. Craig will take me there. I feel fine and have no symptoms of concern as far as I know, but I always get extremely anxious when it comes to medical appointments. It has been 2 years since my last appointment. At that time he was very pleased with how I was doing.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,272 Member

We didn't end up seeing my parents. For some reason they didn't want company so I dropped off DH at the hospital so he could visit his dad and I went to the gym. Then we relaxed the rest of the day. I am glad to hear that your visit went so well Paula.

I have prayed for you this morning Paula. I can understand being anxious about medical exams and appointments, but it is great that you don't have any symptoms. I will be eager to see how you fair, although I am guessing you will need to wait for results.

Shari, Sounds like your Sunday was good, especially if you got to the gym. Thank you so much for praying for me. My appointment went very well, and I don't have to go back for 2 more years. My heart doctor ordered some blood tests that are due, and I think my family doc should have ordered already but didn't. As usual, Craig was a great help in getting me to the appointment. I couldn't have handled that alone as I used the wheelchair. By evening I was very tired and rested/napped off and on. I am looking forward to an easier day Tuesday, but I do have a to do list of course.

I had a good day at work and did much better with my meal plan. I did some chores while having the Baseball game on in the background. I guess we will be cheering for opposing teams, but that is all good.

I am glad your appointment went well Paula. Good to have that looked after for another 2 years.

I will work from home today and will be trying to get caught up from my time away. That will be wonderful if I can. After work, I plan to go to the gym and then do some shopping for the guys across the highway.
