HOW IT ALL WORKS:
Every challenger weighs in on their chosen day, every week without fail! At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win!
We also track those small, steady losses with the Green Week count. If you lose, however small an amount, it counts for 1 week in the green. At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost every week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leaderboard!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Username
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you need a week off, a break, a change of weigh-in day - just ask your Captains here on your team chat page. If you take a break, you are moved to the Support Team. You can remain on the Support Team for as long as you need to. You still participate in the discussions and weigh in if you want to, but your weigh-ins will not be counted on the weekly tally. If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to ask if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone! You need support to maintain, and you can help your teammates join you. You continue to weigh in every week, and if you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team!
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love! Introduce yourselves right away, and let the new month and year begin!!

Welcome to July!
This is our home for the month, where all of our triumphs and challenges take place. Please (re)introduce yourselves and set some goals and daily actions for the month. Focus on the small every day choices, and you will get where you want to go!
I am Liselyn, co-captain along with @micki48. I live in rural Québec, about 85 miles east of Montreal, and I'm a retired university professor of music. My weight loss story? After being somewhat overweight for most of my life, I really packed it on while in an admin job that involved a lot of sitting, meetings, travel, and meals. I tried many times to lose, but it was not until I was 58 that I got really serious with both food and exercise, and lost 40 pounds. I have been in a good zone for almost 9 years now, always refining and figuring out the things that work best, and making sure I don't have to do it all over again. Yes, it is possible to lose weight and get in shape during and after menopause!
I know there are people on this team who have a lot to lose, others who have lost a lot and are closing in on their goals, and some who might be working on losses that are stubbornly resisting. There is much wisdom here, and the most important lesson we learn from each other time and time again is that it is not a straight shot, there will be trials and errors, and sticking with it when it feels like you have fallen off yet again is the best thing you can do for yourself. Plateaus can be good, but going back the way you came is not!
Some helpful information/tools:
Posting your daily updates
We know from experience that posting daily (or as often as you can!) makes a huge difference to your success. Use any format you like to let everyone know how you are doing on your daily goals and habits. You can report on food, exercise, water, sleep, or whatever you are tracking and trying to stick with. While you're there, talk about how you are, ask questions, and if you can answer someone else, please do! Congratulate others, commiserate, enjoy someone's rant, or go ahead and rant yourself. It all helps make the kind of community where we are in each others' heads when the hand is reaching for that off-plan snack, or the couch is feeling way too inviting...
Weighing in
Please try to weigh in on time! When you post, put your weigh in at the TOP of a message, so it is clear and easy to find. If you cannot post your weight for whatever reason, please request a week off, or if you need a longer break, you can request to move to the "Support Team" where you can still participate but your weigh-ins will not be part of the weekly tally. This is where members who are ill, on vacation, or just needing a break can hang out for as long as needed.
The F2F Habit Tracker
If you want a simple place to track your most important habits, give this a try. You can see how your teammates are doing too The link is under "Announcements" on the main F2F page or go directly to:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xTEfgKBhF3lrIoC7uKC-BI82QtIQfBHPRB_wy0rC8WE/edit?usp=sharing
So everyone, tell us a bit about you, your goals for July, what steps you are going to work on. It's fun to know your name and where you live, if you're willing to share that, and what brought you here, how your weight loss journey has been, and where you are headed now. Let the introductions roll!2 -

Welcome and welcome back team! I'm Amber, I live in Canada, and I'm currently melting into a gooey puddle in the midst of this abnormal Canadian heat wave. Assuming I can somehow retain my human form, July is a really important month. It marks the return... of my ability to hit the gym! We're going today. I'm feeling both happy to go and depressed that I probably have no muscles left.
I've been around for two and a half years and lost 110+ pounds. I gained a couple back last month for my 10th anniversary so this month I'd like to somehow get back under 160.
140 is my ultimate goal but I'm in no rush to get there.5 -
Morning team! My name is Ashley, I'm 34 years old, and I live in Airdrie, Alberta (but am currently spending most of my summer at our trailer at the lake).
I came back to MyFitnessPal after a bad dream in January that felt so real I was instantly inspired to get on here. I woke up from it, weighed myself, logged in, set my plan, and I haven't looked back! I was at my highest weight ever, was so close to seeing the 300's, and knew I had to make a change. I like many others let COVID take me away to a non-stop fountain of indulgence, but well before that I've been struggling on and off with weight and dieting since just after high school. As a kid, I was super active and ate whatever I wanted without gaining, but the second the activity slowed, the food habits didn't, and the pounds started packing on.
My husband @bowens1973 hopped on board shortly after I did, and together he and I are working on weight loss to promote long, healthy, happy lives together. I also come from a family with weight issues. My mom is currently struggling quite a bit but she's started tracking and losing as well so I hope we can all continue to be positive influences for one another!
There was a time in the not so distant past I had decided to accept that I was overweight and always would be. Now I'm nearly halfway (EEEEEEEEE!) on my 125 lbs weight loss journey. This community is a huge motivator for me and I thank you all for being here, sharing your stories, the ups and downs, and just for the general inspiration and accountability.
My habit tracker goals this month will be -
-8000 steps daily tracked using my phone (so I need my phone on me for them to count)
-yoga 5x per week (I feel so much more limber and alive when I do a yoga practice)
-two pushups a day (happy to report I've got a fairly good formed one full pushup down after last month so I'm looking to build on that)
-2L water a day (while I don't necessarily think 8 cups of water is essential for health, I also know if I don't set a target I can default to almost no water a day, so this keeps my mind on it)
Let's make this a GREEN July folks - we can do this!!!

@Terytha Exciting about the gym... hope you enjoy your first workout back! Do you have some sort of routine when you go or do you just do whatever feels good on the day? I used to like going to the gym but I have a long commute and find my schedule makes it easy for me to rationalize not going. I could see some interest in returning there someday, but am going to see how far I make it with home workouts first.3
-
Hey everyone!
I'm Katie from England where I live with my husband and our two cats. I'm now 33 but gained most of my weight in my early 20s and have struggled to lose it since. Last year I used stress/not going out as an excuse to comfort eat and got back to my heaviest weight. This year I put together a sustainable plan, have made changes to it gradually and this has been working for me with 10kg lost since January.
___________________
I did a 10k with my running buddy yesterday. We stopped for a drink 3x as it was so warm, but in terms of moving time it was my fastest 10k yet. I'm happy Strava takes the breaks into account though as I would feel like I'd cheated (with the stops) if that was my record. OH then wanted McDonald's for tea on short notice and I said no so that was a proud moment. I did however eat 4 sausage rolls (about 140 calories each) last night; I'd just baked them and was on the phone and kept going back for another. Oops.
We went for a long (10 mile) walk this morning. Two non-scale victories today; firstly I had to shorten all the straps on my rucksack which I hadn't used since last year. Then, this is a route we did about a year ago with a long, steep climb (1332ft in total) and I really struggled last year. Today, it wasn't me holding us back and I could have walked it without stopping - think the fitness from running and carrying less weight are really helping.
This is spurring me on to think about how much more I can lose before the 20 mile walk in September. I don't want to push it too hard, but I can take it as motivation and use the drive to stay focused. I'm going to look at my history and do some maths, then assess my plan for July and see what might be possible.5 -

I started just using the Stronglifts 5x5 app since I didn't know what else to do. But it turns out I really hate deadlifts so instead of those I do pull-ups. XD
I'd like to be able to do a pull-up unassisted someday.6 -
Hi everyone,
I'm Brad and I am the super proud husband of @ashleycarole86. I have always struggled with my weight - I have a relentless sweet tooth and admittedly found food a source of comfort. I love baked goods so much that I owned 2 bakeries in the Toronto area for several years. In 2012, I had a major boating accident that I just couldn't recover from. It turned out that I needed a hip replacement. The chronic pain greatly impacted my mobility and I packed on the weight. I was literally scared of the scale as I knew I wouldn't be happy with what I saw. The highest number I saw was 269. In September 2020 I had my hip done and got a new lease on life. Through the support of my amazing wife and my team mates here, I've lost almost 50 pounds and I'm about halfway to my goal. I've already noticed a big change in my health - I have more energy than ever and don't feel right if I don't get my exercise for the day.
Goals for July: 1) We bought bikes last week and I'd like to incorporate a bike ride 3 - 4 times a week to mix up my exercise. 2) I'd like to try reducing my consumption of calories earned through exercise by 25%. I still want to reward myself by allowing consumption of 75% but I think I'd have better results by making that tweak.
Good luck in July and know that Ash and I are cheering you on here in Western Canada!6 -

Gym update: no pain until my fourth set of pull-ups and only like an ache at that point so I'm calling my muscle injury basically healed. Like 95%.
That said... yikes. I'm in rough shape y'all. Not back to zero at least but it's pretty rough. The muscle soreness is legit. Gonna do 2 days a week for a bit, see how that goes.3 -
Hi everyone,
I m masoumeh 34 from Netherlands, busy with work behind the laptop all the day and this makes me to have excuses to skip healthy habits.
For June my focus was on enabling regular exercise habit, hopefully I manage to do at least 1 hour per day outdoor biking and manged to have 1 liter water per day from half of the month. But I failed for calorie tracking. For this month I will track my weight and intake calories again and I would like to join the challenge as well.
Today I got an amazfit smartwatch to track my steps because the Google fit app recently was not recording properly and MyFitnessPal also did not import the exercises from app anymore, now I m wondering if it is possible to link amazfit/zepp with mfp or not? I could not find any way to do it.

hello all! I'm Sylvia from Massachusetts. Started with Waistaways in January 2020 and with all the motivation this group inspires, I lost steadily until I reached near enough to goal weight in the August (about 40 lbs)...I said at that time that my goal was to be the same weight this coming August - knowing how easy it is to put back on as I've yo-yo-ed my whole life. So since then, I've wobbled a bit and have really been through most options - weighing & tracking food and doing none of that, exercising like mad or not exercising, logging in here daily to barely logging in...and I find myself about 6-7 pounds from where I was last August - so with that small goal in mind, I'm going to knuckle down in July!! put my fitbit back on, weigh and log food, and check in here AND post a few habits.
It's nice to be 'back'! See you tomorrow.

You are all set for this month - report your steps if you would like to, and keep up the great work! You have a good start on water and exercise - now food and tracking.
I do not know if MFP imports steps from Amazfit - but you can simply report them here if you like, and we'll cheer you on as you go up against some of our great steppers here on the team.hello all! You too! Get back to tracking a bit more and finishing off those last few pounds will happen! The small ups and downs will keep plaguing you, but gradually it will get easier. Go Sylvia Go!

Hi all!
Anyone who is tracking steps and/or exercise is welcome to report them here so we can get inspired and be accountable. Your daily steps from a tracker, minutes of intentional exercise - report them all, and we'll add it up and help you feel amazing about it.
For last week, I need some numbers from @micki48 @gak71 and @evangsimmons170 if you're up for reporting them - thanks!
Everyone who wants to track is welcome to join in. Just report by the end of the day Sunday for Saturday-Sunday of the previous week. Or report daily, or whatever is easiest for you as long as all the week's stats are there by end of play Sunday wherever you live. Somehow, having to report in makes it easier to actually get the exercise done. Any exercise can count - biking, exercise machines, weights, you name it. Just report the number of minutes and the intensity and you're good to go.
It has been ridiculously hot and humid here today, and I think a lot of us are in a heat wave at the moment. Drink that water and get the moves in early if you can.
Weigh-ins due Sunday - Monday:

Hi WaistAways,
I'm Courtney aka PlaneMonkey. I used to fix airplanes but now I'm a full time desk worker writing aviation policy, working from home until at least 2022. I LOVE working from home, I gained an hour and a half per day of commute time that I'm able to use for exercise, meal planning, or home renos (which are never ending!)
I was very athletic in my youth and once adult life arrived and sports weren't an everyday thing, I failed to adjust my calorie intake to match. I've yoyo'd several times, but I'm back down at my smallest adult size now due to the motivation of this group and the ease of calorie tracking on MFP. I've plateaued a bit now because it's summer, which means more relaxing and cocktail drinking along with being really happy with how I look, even though I could stand to keep losing another couple of dress sizes. I've printed my new July Habit Tracker calendar and I hope I'll be able to get back to colouring in boxes for motivation.
@KellyBgetsfit we took 5 days off work for the deck demo/build and it took from Thursday June 10th until 2pm on Sunday June 21st to get it done. We worked a minimum of 6 hours per day on it, as the old one had to be demolished and carried out by hand to our truck, we had to carry in bags of rocks to build a new foundation for the footings as the old wooden ones had rotted away, and there was an ancient crumbling concrete pad under there that we broke apart and hauled to the driveway. There is zero way we would have gotten it done without complete dedication to it. We were behind schedule from day 1 on the project as my husband twisted his back as we were removing the patio set and had to make 2 visits to the chiropractor during the build week to sort himself out. I didn't log a single calorie or read a single post all week. Hubby is a hard task master and I was barely allowed to use the bathroom, let alone eat regularly to keep my blood sugar up! Regardless, after 11 days we finally have a deck that is safe and structurally sound.
I spent 2 and a half hours last night catching up on everyone's posts. I've missed you all. Welcome back @MandiSaysHey.
I hope your ribs are on the mend @Terytha
Love the photos @conleywoods
I'm glad @jugar and @ashleycarole86 had a great visit.
I can't go back without losing my post so sorry for everyone else I'd like to mention but am blanking on.
July is a new month, I'm nearing the one year mark of my journey, I want to keep trending in the right direction. Cheers to Team WaistAways!5 -
Good morning all.
Weigh in today 218.2
I will reintroduce myself a little later. Running late for work at the moment.4 -
Hi WaistAways -
Nearly July - I read a daily newsletter about business news and today's pointed out that June 30 marks the "halftime" of the year, and a good time to hit reset! I like that idea. Crazy that half the year is gone, though.
I'm Kay, 26, living in Boston and working in finance downtown (although I have been WFH since late March '20, and currently doing work for July from the Catskill Mtns in NY). I was a runner and a dancer all my childhood through high school, and totally dropped regular activity in college. Add in an unlimited meal plan and a general dislike for vegetables, and I gained way more than the freshman 15. I consider my start date for this weight loss to be Feb 2018, when I moved out of my parents' house and started my first post-grad job. I am very big on getting my steps in - thinking about adding some running back in.
I love home workouts almost exclusively for strength, cardio, hiit, etc. (currently doing Caroline Girvan's Epic I on youtube, 60 day program [but it'll take me a bit more than 60 days]) and I follow Yoga with Adriene on youtube for my daily yoga practice. My biggest struggle with weight loss is bingeing on weekends and emotional eating when I get stressed/frustrated, especially on a bad workday. I joined F2F in August 2020, took a brief break for April & May 2021 (was not a great idea, I stopped tracking everything to see how it would feel to be a little less numbers-focused... yeah, I gained a big chunk of a nearly-50 lb loss back so that was unfortunate.)
Monday motivation - I only have 1 meeting today and my workload gets very light before the end of the quarter so I have plenty of time to study for an exam at the end of August. And plenty of time for a workout in the afternoon!

Hi all, I'm Mandi. I'm in my 30s and live in the Chicago suburbs with my 11yo son. I work in retail management and have always had jobs directly on the sales floor but in May I started a new role that falls under the HR branch and now work with hiring, payroll, hours budgets, compliance reporting, etc.
I have always been overweight but it got really out of control when my son was young. I was a young single mother on a limited income with limited cooking skills and varying work schedule. I often found it easier to eat fastfood or frozen dinners and just gained a lot of weight. I bounced up and down with the same 40 lbs for a couple years. Last year, when I was getting dangerously close to being back at my highest weight ever, I took control of my eating finally and lost over 60 lbs. Earlier this year I gained back about 14 of it between stress at work, switching from a job that involved tons of walking to a job that is mostly done at a desk, and starting a new relationship that included more dinners out than usual. My boyfriend and I spent the weekend in St Louis last weekend and I told him when we got back I needed to get back on track with my calorie counting, so here I am.
5 -
I will also join back in the steps tracking. My goal will be 7k steps per day.3
-
Happy Hot Monday!
I am catching up on all the garden and yard work, and somehow thought that it was not as hot as yesterday. Until I started working - the sun came out full force, and... I burned a lot of calories, I'm sure!
It is good as always to read the introductions and enjoy the beginning of the month energy. Already the weigh-ins are looking great! Let's try to make this month the exception and keep those beautiful green numbers happening for ALL the weeks, ok? Slumpless July! OK - that does not have much of a ring to it, but hopefully we can make it happen anyhow.
@ashleycarole86 and @MandiSaysHey
You're on the step/exercise team and off we go! Be sure to include your other exercise times as well if you do them. It really adds up. Ashley - you'll be thrilled with the numbers for yesterday. The swim earned you 7800 steps, yoga 1100, and all together you clocked 17,452 steps!
Tally ho!6 -
We're running away from home. It's too hot. I was too ill from the heat to eat breakfast today and there's no way to cool our old, poorly insulated townhouse.
I'll be in an air conditioned hotel until further notice.
I feel really guilty about abandoning my cat though, poor guy. All I can do for him is lots of ice water.6 -
@Terytha we have limited AC in our apartment, too. I keep a fan oscillating near the cat’s bowls and that helps them a lot. Since it’s going to be even hotter, they will all get the “water treatment” - gently rubbing water into their hair to the skin to help with natural air-cooling.
It’s lucky that we have a basement where the kitties can be cooler.
More soon!4
