Good morning Downsizers!

So, I had a slip up yesterday. Ate a very healthy dinner and then when putting the kids' leftover pizza away, I started shoveling it into my mouth instead. WHAT?! And if that wasn't bad enough, I then ate half a bar of dark chocolate. SERIOUSLY?! Okay... so I logged the damage and was still at a decent deficit for the day. No harm, no foul. Just get back on the wagon. Well, the scale provided some instant (and not positive) feedback this morning.
Now... I know in my head, it is not fat that I gained. I also know, you do not need to be 100% perfect to be successful in weight loss / weight management. However, my mind is framing this as a choice between either being 100% perfect OR suffer through the instant feedback of living by the 80/20 (or whatever split you choose) rule. I don't like either of those choices!

Had a lovely mile and half walk, while listening to an audiobook (waiting for hubby to come outside), then we walked together for three miles. He's not only walking now in the morning, he is actively trying to hit 10,000 steps π We chatted about changing some eating habits, when he mentioned again that he's not losing weight. He is not interested in tracking calories or changing eating habits (hoping that's a yet). He did say that he's grateful that I haven't been pushing him to walk or change any habits. Taking that as a not-so-subtle hint to not offer advice. Hopefully he'll make a change, because as we all know you can't outrun a fork. He's brilliant, he knows what he needs to do. He just needs to do it. The positives: he's walking three miles every day, sometimes more and aiming to get in 10,000 steps - I'm happy for that.
I think he will eventually come around. Keep offering support. Awesome steps!2 -

We went and picked up the elliptical. I hopped on when we got there to make sure everything works and no problems. It has adjustable resistance and foot pedal height so that's awesome, I didn't realize it was gonna have that. It looks almost new and she said she's never had any problems with it. Only one problem, my husband and I can't get it to the basement lol. My husband, her ex husband, and her teenage son all carried it to the truck. I called my brother, hopefully he will come tomorrow to help us. I can't wait to use it!7 -
Just came on to say that I've managed to do some cycling two days in a row! Yesterday's ride was 5.33miles and today's was 3.31 miles so I'm proud of myself for being more intentionally active alongside anything else I've done or do this week.
Yesterday, family brought back dessert home for them which also included surprising me with a giant size eclair for me. We were recently talking about a local food place and I said in conversation about in that moment I fancied having an eclair. I know deep down the gesture had good intentions and they couldn't force me to eat anything, but I still did get a little irritable about it because I finally made an effort to get back on and out on the bike and so had done a ride earlier in the day so, to be greeted with that later on made me feel somewhat mentally wobbly. I did have a small chunk of the eclair, but I cut up and froze the rest so, that made me feel like I regained some mental control, yay!
Being honest, it's felt like a mental see-saw in the past few weeks with food, I'm adding extra food through the week and weekend, the reasoning could be emotion, hormone, portion or whatever else related. I suppose it's natural to get lethargic from calorie counting over a sustained period of time. Whilst I know I can get up in my head about things, I will still continue to allow myself that flexibility so once I move into calorie counting less over time, it won't feel as whiplash like.
After today's ride, I've ended up adding an extra 300ish cals with my lunch, which I mentally debated about doing as eating after exercise is an interesting thing, you don't know if you've eaten back all the calories you've potentially burned. However, these rides were mainly about getting out of the house alongside getting exercise in.
A few NSV's within this essay, hope you're all having a great week so far, loving how active our team is on here.6 -

Great sleep last night, 83 sleep score... And it's just one of them days, up and adam and on the Elliptical I go. Reached 1.5 miles every day this week so far. So apparently, it's getting easier. When I started 30 minutes, I think I only hit 1.2 the first time, then 1.3, and 1.4 pretty much all last week. So, I'm quite happy with 1.5 3 days in a row. It's getting harder though, looking forward to a rest day. lol Anyway... Maybe 1.6 might be in the near future?
It's a double workout day today, so I've packed my day with Extra Fat... (and calories, duh.. π).
FYI... Lynn did 6 laps today on my old stomping grounds outside. (She's my little warrior!) πππ€
Have an amazing day everyone... π€π€π€πππ

Huge step day for you Joniππ youβre hitting those goals π letβs talk kudos, because you deserve to hear them: you chose a very healthy dinner, you logged the snacking on the leftover pizza, you were still under your calorie budget, you only ate 1/2 the dark chocolate bar, it was dark chocolate ππ the scale was most likely showing the water weight from the salty pizza. Everyone has their own style of deficit and maintenance. You need to do what you feel comfortable with. Iβm of the mindset that if I budgeted in the treat, and the rest of my day is on the healthier side - itβs all good. π€

@lmf1012
Itβs water weight you are seeing on scale this morning. I think this weight loss thing is sometimes it takes time to figure out. I have been at it 2.5 years and I am still figuring it out. I know one thing I have come to realize this is for life. There are holidays, parties and sometimes just my grandkids want to have McDonaldβs. I had to find a happy medium so I can enjoy these things and know I will slip sometimes. I guess what I am trying to say we just have to do the best we can but enjoy real life. Itβs a tough feeling when we βscrew upβ but itβs what we do after that matters. Getting back on track after a slip or not turning Thanksgiving into to 7 days of solid eating is perfection to me.
@Tazaria87
Your elliptical will be a great addition to your exercise routine.
@emking517
Awesome loss!
@TheresaM787
Combination of reminders, walk to massage, walking through mall to get to doctors office and then backing tracking my steps when I lost my keys. I left them in the Uber. I ask was at the market to pick up a few things. I am surprised at the steps considering amount of time I spend resting in a day. No relief yet but physio for back started today. Massage was so nice. Back to physio Monday and massage following Monday. This is going to get expensive. Doctor wants me to rest for a few days but you see how well I listened so far. Pain clinic referral gone but there will be a wait. Surgeon early 2022. Lots of waiting in Canada for certain specialist.
@mszoueb
Thatβs great you are increasing activity.

@littleflutterby Congratulations on reaching a new weight loss milestone!
@Tazaria87 Enjoy your new elliptical!
@TheresaM787 sounds like your husband knows that he needs to change his eating habits but may be resistant for several possible reasons, like feeling hungry or unsatisfied, never being able to eat βtreat/forbiddenβ foods again, what if unable to lose weight when on diet or not lose weight quickly? It might be worth investigating at some point in the future.
@lmf1012 we all have hiccups along the way. Think positive, you were still within calories. Avoid all or nothing and perfectionist thinking. They are not sustainable. Just plan ahead where you can and keep reinforcing your healthy habits. It will all work out.2 -
Evening Friends!!!
Work was good.... Much better then yesterday. Yesterday one of my co-workers had a meltdown, I swear steam was coming out of his ears and his eye balls were literally touching his glasses as he stormed out the office with his arms doing helicopters. Thankfully, today it's like nothing ever happened and everyone was singing Kumbaya.... βπ€π .
Oh, I gave someone an honest to goodness heartfelt handshake for the first time in over a year today. Felt really good. Although it was weird for the both of us, but it was obvious we really appreciated the long-lost art of the handshake. Very satisfying way. π
As for me not much gets me riled up... Stress is for other people I figure. I've been really busy though, so it probably seems like I've been neglection some of you. Sorry for that. I also haven't had time to really get to know some of the new comers of late. Me bad. ππ€π
So, diet pretty much went as planned today... Calories up and fat content nice and high. And sure, enough energy was really good through the entire day to this very moment.
Chest, Triceps and shoulders went great. Moving up to 60 Pound Dumbbells for chest press was interesting, I did really good on the first set hitting 9 reps... But then nosedived on the second and third. Part of the problem is It's hard to get the 60lb dumbbells into the starting position on my first rep. I can't kick that much weight back with my knees and lay down at the same time as I'm still to heavy and I'm scared I'm going to hurt my lower back. Although getting on and half the flat bench is getting much easier. So, I lay down first, then reach down to the ground to either side grab one at a time as Lynn assists me to put the weight on my chest. But that's still not a natural starting position, so I have to basically struggle to get into the slot as I make my first rep... Then once I do that the next reps are easier, but that first one can be slow and tricky which quickly tires me out. Anyway I'm sticking at 60lb. OH shoulder presses, Fly's (noticibly much better control and power), and Skullcrushers, all improved and are moving up so it's still a massive gains day. Wooot WOOOT! ππ₯³
Lynn was a amazing warrior today πͺ ... She was struggling with a sore right Deltoid. it was bothering her on Monday. So I'm not sure if it's a muscle, nerve, or tendon. Either way she's got 4 days where she won't need to work it, and can let it rest. I hope it goes away. But she was persistant and battled through and got the workout finished (honestly I couldn't have stopped her if I tried) ππ€πͺπ. Oddly enough the DB Shoulder raises didn't really bother her, so makes me think it's not actually her deltoid muscle? and might be more related to nerves or tendons? The thing that bothered her the most was the Overhead shoulder press. Let's pray for a good recovery. π
Okay I yacked enough... I have dishes to wash, doh (damn broken dishwasher).
Have a great night everyone!!! π€π€π€ππ

No wonder your step count was well over 8,000! Look at all the walking you're doing. I don't see much resting in your day at all. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't finding any relief yet, hopefully soon. Are you going to try a chiropractor or acupuncturist?

I'm loving walking. I love listening to an audiobook or inspirational podcast when I'm alone and I really love walking with hubby. Unfortunately, walking is taking up my riding and strength training time (I thought I could squeeze in both walks and rides & strengths). I'm thinking of returning to my original plan: wake, coffee, 30 minute ride, then walk with hubby. Maybe not every day, at least four times a week though. I don't know what you people did to me. I used to think exercise was a bad word. Now, I'm trying to figure out a way to sneak in more. What did you do to me?4 -

Hi team. My mom is still in the hospital, so I'm still reading all of the messages when I can, but don't feel up to responding. Unfortunately, she is miserable, so I don't leave her alone here. I have been sleeping in the reclining chair in her room.
The transition to new medicine is not going to work out, so she is transitioning back to the old IV medicine. Lots of side effects all week including migraines, nausea and vomiting. It is so emotionally draining to see my mom like this. She keeps holding my hand and I mean tightly holding my hand with both of hers.
Of course, I am not thinking about food much. I haven't put any money into the snack and drink machines down the hall though:) I have been taking walks outside of her room around the floor whenever she is feeling a little better or is sleeping.
She's been in the hospital since last Wednesday, and I am so weary. I can't wait until she starts to feel better, and we can go home. I miss my dogs, my husband and my kids. The hospital is a little over an hour away from home.
When she's out of here, I'll be back here commenting and such.

Look at those steps! You have turned in to an exercise beast. I really admire that you have increased your exercise so much. You have done this while having young kids which makes it amazing. You are a rockstar! To your question: I am going to stick with massage and physio for a few weeks. It is costly and my insurance for those type of services sucks. I will give the others a try if needed.

So, my sister and I started a weight loss contest with each other 8 weeks ago. Every 4 weeks the person who has lost the highest percentage of weight wins $25 from the other. Of course, it has only been this last week that she has been really trying. Well, she was telling my brother about it and he asked if he and his wife could join. Then my mom wanted to join and my best friend too. Now I have 5 other family and friends that want to get healthy with me! How exciting is that?!

Great Thursday Morning Guys! π
So... I'm not sure it's you guys that are the *kitten*!!! or if it's me that's the *kitten*! But some *kitten* put it in my head to hit 1.6 miles on the Elliptical this morning. Thanks a lot *kitten*(s)!!! ππ π
I had no idea that the thought would occur to me before I started, but sure enough not even 1.5 minutes in the thought was there, constantly gnawing at the fringes of my conscious mind. So, what did this *kitten* do? I pushed a little harder, and maintained a little fast pace right from the beginning. Time Marched forward, and I surpassed .5 miles in less than 10 minutes. Working some quick math in my head, i knew I would have to keep up this pace or slightly better through the entire 20 minutes that were left. "*kitten*" I thought to myself. So onward i pushed, maintaining a pace that I really wasn't sure I could maintain... At times, I even had to slow down, but never did I stop. And knowing that it would be close, for every slow down I had to double down on my effort with a burst of prolonged speed. "*kitten*!!!". 20 minutes, in I was hot mess and pretty much drenched, Chest a heaving and breathing loudly... (Aaa$$ssholesss...). It was getting to close to call. Maybe I wasn't going to make.... At this point I was probably getting a little delirious.... Then I heard it... "Go faster, you can do it!!!"..... DOH "*kitten*!", I thought in return as I stepped on the gas..
With 20 seconds left to go... 1.5 turned to 1.6. "There you go *kitten*(s), you did it!" and a big smile spread across my face..." ππ
Thanks *kitten*, I love you guys. π€π€π€π
P.s. I'm not promising any of you A - holes 1.6 next time. Heck I might even take cardio off tomorrow, as it's my long weekend and its leg day. So easy on the pure pressure kay? π
