    Good morning Downsizers!

    @Megan_smartiepants1970
    6/29 steps 10,557

    So, I had a slip up yesterday. Ate a very healthy dinner and then when putting the kids' leftover pizza away, I started shoveling it into my mouth instead. WHAT?! And if that wasn't bad enough, I then ate half a bar of dark chocolate. SERIOUSLY?! Okay... so I logged the damage and was still at a decent deficit for the day. No harm, no foul. Just get back on the wagon. Well, the scale provided some instant (and not positive) feedback this morning.

    Now... I know in my head, it is not fat that I gained. I also know, you do not need to be 100% perfect to be successful in weight loss / weight management. However, my mind is framing this as a choice between either being 100% perfect OR suffer through the instant feedback of living by the 80/20 (or whatever split you choose) rule. I don't like either of those choices!

    Bike 30 minutes, 8 miles, moderate effort
    Steps 12,800

    Had a lovely mile and half walk, while listening to an audiobook (waiting for hubby to come outside), then we walked together for three miles. He's not only walking now in the morning, he is actively trying to hit 10,000 steps 💖 We chatted about changing some eating habits, when he mentioned again that he's not losing weight. He is not interested in tracking calories or changing eating habits (hoping that's a yet). He did say that he's grateful that I haven't been pushing him to walk or change any habits. Taking that as a not-so-subtle hint to not offer advice. Hopefully he'll make a change, because as we all know you can't outrun a fork. He's brilliant, he knows what he needs to do. He just needs to do it. The positives: he's walking three miles every day, sometimes more and aiming to get in 10,000 steps - I'm happy for that.

    I think he will eventually come around. Keep offering support. Awesome steps!

    ✅Steps 8,805
    ✅Sleep
    ✅Walk
    ❌ 7/8 hourly reminders

    Happy Hump Day!
    Another ENORMOUS step day Linda👏👏 Is it the hourly reminders or is it from a longer walk? You’re doing marvelous 🤩 I’m glad your getting sleep. How was the massage? Did it help?

    Hump day is already past, cause Friday is my stat this weekend... So just today and Thursday to get through. "Almost there... Almost there...." (And not, like the X-wing fighter pilot in Starwars.) 😋

    Great sleep last night, 83 sleep score... And it's just one of them days, up and adam and on the Elliptical I go. Reached 1.5 miles every day this week so far. So apparently, it's getting easier. When I started 30 minutes, I think I only hit 1.2 the first time, then 1.3, and 1.4 pretty much all last week. So, I'm quite happy with 1.5 3 days in a row. It's getting harder though, looking forward to a rest day. lol Anyway... Maybe 1.6 might be in the near future?

    It's a double workout day today, so I've packed my day with Extra Fat... (and calories, duh.. 🙂).

    FYI... Lynn did 6 laps today on my old stomping grounds outside. (She's my little warrior!) 😎😍🤗

    Have an amazing day everyone... 🤗🤗🤗😎😊😀

    Congratulations on reaching a new personal best three times this week 👏👏 great job to Lynn for walking six laps 🙌🙌 You two make an amazing team!

    Huge step day for you Joni👏👏 you’re hitting those goals 🎉 let’s talk kudos, because you deserve to hear them: you chose a very healthy dinner, you logged the snacking on the leftover pizza, you were still under your calorie budget, you only ate 1/2 the dark chocolate bar, it was dark chocolate 🙌🙌 the scale was most likely showing the water weight from the salty pizza. Everyone has their own style of deficit and maintenance. You need to do what you feel comfortable with. I’m of the mindset that if I budgeted in the treat, and the rest of my day is on the healthier side - it’s all good. 🤗

    We went and picked up the elliptical. I hopped on when we got there to make sure everything works and no problems. It has adjustable resistance and foot pedal height so that's awesome, I didn't realize it was gonna have that. It looks almost new and she said she's never had any problems with it. Only one problem, my husband and I can't get it to the basement lol. My husband, her ex husband, and her teenage son all carried it to the truck. I called my brother, hopefully he will come tomorrow to help us. I can't wait to use it!

    Congratulations on your new elliptical 🎉 hopefully you get it into the basement soon, that’s so great that you are looking forward to using it! It will be a terrific option, especially with this rainy weather. Well done with your tracking, staying under and water 👏👏 You’ll be right back up there with steps 🤩

    It’s water weight you are seeing on scale this morning. I think this weight loss thing is sometimes it takes time to figure out. I have been at it 2.5 years and I am still figuring it out. I know one thing I have come to realize this is for life. There are holidays, parties and sometimes just my grandkids want to have McDonald’s. I had to find a happy medium so I can enjoy these things and know I will slip sometimes. I guess what I am trying to say we just have to do the best we can but enjoy real life. It’s a tough feeling when we “screw up” but it’s what we do after that matters. Getting back on track after a slip or not turning Thanksgiving into to 7 days of solid eating is perfection to me.

    @Tazaria87
    Your elliptical will be a great addition to your exercise routine.

    Awesome loss!

    @TheresaM787
    Combination of reminders, walk to massage, walking through mall to get to doctors office and then backing tracking my steps when I lost my keys. I left them in the Uber. I ask was at the market to pick up a few things. I am surprised at the steps considering amount of time I spend resting in a day. No relief yet but physio for back started today. Massage was so nice. Back to physio Monday and massage following Monday. This is going to get expensive. Doctor wants me to rest for a few days but you see how well I listened so far. Pain clinic referral gone but there will be a wait. Surgeon early 2022. Lots of waiting in Canada for certain specialist.

    @mszoueb
    That’s great you are increasing activity.

    @littleflutterby Congratulations on reaching a new weight loss milestone!
    @Tazaria87 Enjoy your new elliptical!
    @TheresaM787 sounds like your husband knows that he needs to change his eating habits but may be resistant for several possible reasons, like feeling hungry or unsatisfied, never being able to eat “treat/forbidden” foods again, what if unable to lose weight when on diet or not lose weight quickly? It might be worth investigating at some point in the future.
    @lmf1012 we all have hiccups along the way. Think positive, you were still within calories. Avoid all or nothing and perfectionist thinking. They are not sustainable. Just plan ahead where you can and keep reinforcing your healthy habits. It will all work out.

    Just came on to say that I've managed to do some cycling two days in a row! Yesterday's ride was 5.33miles and today's was 3.31 miles so I'm proud of myself for being more intentionally active alongside anything else I've done or do this week.

    Yesterday, family brought back dessert home for them which also included surprising me with a giant size eclair for me. We were recently talking about a local food place and I said in conversation about in that moment I fancied having an eclair. I know deep down the gesture had good intentions and they couldn't force me to eat anything, but I still did get a little irritable about it because I finally made an effort to get back on and out on the bike and so had done a ride earlier in the day so, to be greeted with that later on made me feel somewhat mentally wobbly. I did have a small chunk of the eclair, but I cut up and froze the rest so, that made me feel like I regained some mental control, yay!

    Being honest, it's felt like a mental see-saw in the past few weeks with food, I'm adding extra food through the week and weekend, the reasoning could be emotion, hormone, portion or whatever else related. I suppose it's natural to get lethargic from calorie counting over a sustained period of time. Whilst I know I can get up in my head about things, I will still continue to allow myself that flexibility so once I move into calorie counting less over time, it won't feel as whiplash like.

    After today's ride, I've ended up adding an extra 300ish cals with my lunch, which I mentally debated about doing as eating after exercise is an interesting thing, you don't know if you've eaten back all the calories you've potentially burned. However, these rides were mainly about getting out of the house alongside getting exercise in.

    A few NSV's within this essay, hope you're all having a great week so far, loving how active our team is on here.

    Way to go Zoe with your back to back rides👏🏻👏🏻 You showed incredible restraint with the eclair. I know that wasn't easy. Great idea freezing the rest.

    No wonder your step count was well over 8,000! Look at all the walking you're doing. I don't see much resting in your day at all. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't finding any relief yet, hopefully soon. Are you going to try a chiropractor or acupuncturist?

    All of those reasons sound like my hubby 🤗 This has been his struggle for over two decades.

    I'm loving walking. I love listening to an audiobook or inspirational podcast when I'm alone and I really love walking with hubby. Unfortunately, walking is taking up my riding and strength training time (I thought I could squeeze in both walks and rides & strengths). I'm thinking of returning to my original plan: wake, coffee, 30 minute ride, then walk with hubby. Maybe not every day, at least four times a week though. I don't know what you people did to me. I used to think exercise was a bad word. Now, I'm trying to figure out a way to sneak in more. What did you do to me?

    Happy July!
    Summer is finally here - I live in Paris, and July / August means that people are leaving the city and it becomes nice and empty. I will have the parks and swimming pools to myself :)
    @Megan_smartiepants1970 I'm signing back up for the step challenge as of today! Let me know if there is anything other than steps I need to send through :)

    My goals for July are
    • Start exercising regularly again (I want to do c25k again, it's such a great program)
    • Bullet journal
    • settle in more in my home - it's kinda just "meh" but has the potential to be amazing

    Good luck to all my fellow Downsizers!
