My name is Bonnie! @kellie_erin is my sister and encouraged me to join the group. I am living in Toronto, ON. I started a new job in August and am (still) tryibf to finish a PhD thesis. I'm aiming to make some small changes in December and to get back on track in January.5 -

You and @graceojo999 can commiserate about the PhD thesis! You're both amazing even for being here during that ordeal...3 -
Heads up, everyone! Time to finish up this week, hopefully with more green than red and ready for the weeks to come.
Send in those numbers, or let me know if you need to be excused for the week - thanks!

I feel so guilty, I've been watching my neighbour for the past nearly two weeks shovelling off her part of the lake in order to make a rink and I haven't joined in and shoveled my part, or helped with hers for a number of reasons like that now that I have a day job, I no longer have mornings free to work on it during daylight, I've been visiting my parents two to three times a week in the evenings, and the last one is because this entire week coming is forecast to be above freezing every day so it will all be melted and gone within days. So I've been glancing over to her yard all week feeling nothing but guilt as I watch her work. She's 73 years old! She's still independent and fit and she's basically my health idol. I want to be her when I grow up! So now that the rain has started and the melting temperatures are here, will the guilt ease and I'll feel justified I didn't bother with a rink no one would have skated on, or will I still feel I abandoned a friend?
This debate is all internal to me, I highly doubt my neighbour is upset with me in any way. She's retired and does the shoveling as something to do for entertainment and exercise. If the long-term forecast hadn't been for a complete melt, I would have found the time to get down there to help, but I used it as an excuse to stay in my warm house instead. After next week will be a different story! Once those daytime high temperatures drop back below freezing, I'll be out there daily getting that rink ready for winter visits.
Side note: I have a Garmin fitness tracker and it doesn't have exercise selections for Shoveling or Hockey so I have to pick skating or enter exercise into MFP manually. Do any Fitbits or other trackers you guys use have either of those activities as selections? I'm considering a change.0 -
Hi all, sorry I am so behind
PW 154 I think
CW 156
So far it's holidays 100/ me 0. I can't seem to get a hold on life, I'm leaving by 4 am for work and getting home 930 or 10ish at night after hauling kids and watching games and performances.. blah blah blah. I love it but I am trying to figure out where I fit in? Do you ever feel like your watching your life instead of living it? Ugh 😫 gonna figure this out.4 -

It seems like everyone is getting into the swing of the holidays. I have not bought one gift or made one cookie. Hoping to change that today. My body is still mad at me for going back to work and staying up all night. I'm trying to stay positive but eating at 2am one day and 2pm the next has not helped the scale.
@jugar enjoy the visit with your daughter. A few extra pounds can be lost but memories will last forever!
@PlaneMonkey Don't feel guilty. Sometimes life gets in the way of old habits. Look forward to the rink in the future and know that it just wasn't meant for you to be out there shoveling snow the last few days. New jobs will always throw a monkey wrench in your plans.
@bonnie_red: I just finished my masters degree and can not even imagine the work that goes into a PhD thesis. You go girl! You got it...I know u will get it done and be elated when the process is over!
@EvMakesChanges Isn't it amazing the difference something as small as using a smaller plate makes. The visualization of a full plate satisfies me so much more than a half full bigger size plate with the same amount of food. Weird how our brains work.

12/10 exercise:
60 minutes Peloton + 7304 steps
I agree @PlaneMonkey - understand the guilt (I'd feel the same) but that just tells me you'll pitch in when you CAN. I'm sure your neighbor knows you and knows the kind of person you are but it doesn't stop the brain from rattling around those kinds of thoughts does it?
@sljjjembeca Sounds absolutely exhausting. And you too @kdblpn - this is a busy time of year regardless and the work schedules are certainly adding to it
Well, time to go find me some trouble for the day! Enjoy it everyone.3 -

Happy Saturday!
I am joining @PlaneMonkey in the weather blues - rain over snow, not anyone's fave. And wonderful older neighbours! I would bet my last $$ that she would love a phone call or a quick chat to tell her how you have been feeling, how much you admire her, and that you'll be out there after it freezes again. Ask her to save the really big shovelling days for weekends so you can be out there in the light. You'll make her day for sure.
The truly terrible weather blues in Kentucky and other states is horrible to hear about. I hope everyone and their families and friends are all right. We're expecting very high winds tonight, but have never seen anything like all those tornados. Scary stuff.
@sljjjembeca good to see you! With that kind of schedule, I can see why you are not able to post often. I know exactly what you mean about feeling like your own spectator. When everything you do is for others, it is satisfying in many ways, but nothing is chosen by you except the way you get the things done. If you can fit in just one small thing for you every day, that might feel good. One pre-planned healthy meal each day, even if it exactly the same day in and day out can be good. One short exercise session, just a time to sit alone in a corner and take a few minutes worth of deep breaths. It won't solve the intensity of your time crunch, but it is for you alone. Maybe that could help? In any case, you are amazing. And you ARE going to figure it out! those kiddoes better shower you with lots o' love...2 -

Boo hoo, we had to say goodbye to our doggie Bernie today. He was a lab mix and 15 and a half. His tumors returned (we knew they would) and he wasn't doing well. The vet was able to make a house call which was really the best option for him. I'm crushed 💔, he had been part of my husband and my life for more than a third of it! So sad 😥6

Big hugs to you @conleywoods ... a tough time of transition for you and the family. My heart goes out to you.1
-
12/11 exercise -
20 minutes Peloton + 10 minutes yoga + 10 minutes strength + 5479 steps
Not bad for a day where we saw two movies in theaters (West Side Story, House of Gucci). There was a promotion going on and we had vouchers so we saw both for $3 when it was all said and done! I love going to movies in the theatre so it was a nice day.
Off to my mom's tomorrow as Brad is doing a food prep day - pork kebabs, cabbage rolls and perogies. Hoping to get up early for my bike ride.4 -
@conleywoods So sorry to hear about you having to say goodbye to Bernie. Our pets are such integral parts of our family, aren't they? Remember to give yourself grace as you grieve. Big hugs to you and your family.

Happy Sunday - and welcome to Week 2! As usual, @YinxFed has us off to a good start with light at the end of the tunnel

We hit the #3 spot for last week - well done! The top two teams had a couple of individuals in the double digit losses for the week, so I think we were fabulous with our sustainable losses and good number of members in the green.
I'm very excited to go pick up my daughter at the airport in Montréal late this afternoon - haven't seen her since June, so it will be a non-stop gab and laugh fest, I suspect. Not to mention eating - starting with a sushi feast as soon as we arrive at my son's house. I'm picking that up this afternoon so that no one will have to cook. It's almost a 4 hour round trip to the airport, and I don't want to stop anywhere. Sushi is worth waiting for!
I hope you all have a restful, lovely day - I'll try to drop in tonight before bed4 -
@conleywoods I can't imagine what you are going through. Remember the good times and know that your dog is not suffering. I know some people will say oh it's just a dog, but my dog is like my child. I would be devistated.2

I have to share a story that has broken my heart. My boyfriend is in a motorcycle club and they adopt 10 kids every Christmas and buy them gifts. Out of the 10, some asked for bikes, others for scooters, some asked for art supplies or board games. But the heart breaking part is 5 of the 10 only asked for food boxes. How can it be that kids should have to ask for food for a Christmas present. There are only 4 people in the motorcycle club but I am going to make those kids the best food boxes they have ever seen.6

Very sad indeed. So nice you are able to give back in that way through your boyfriend's motorcycle club.
@jugar Have a FANTASTIC visit with your lovely daughter... you are going to have a blast!
I tried to get up early to exercise but I was tired and took that as my cue to sleep in. Ended up sleeping was past what I normally do which I will just take as a gift.
Just finishing some work and then I'll head down to ride. I'm also going to participate in the week 2 challenge for Sunday to walk at least 20 minutes.4 -

I went way over on calories yesterday because I went to a birthday party for my niece and then stopped for coffee and went to a drive through Christmas light display and out to dinner with my boyfriend and my son. Back on track today and hopefully all week until Friday. I've got planned cheat days for Friday and Saturday because of my birthday. December is a hard month.4
