This was the sunrise view out our bedroom window this morning!

So far, I have not had any problems with altitude sickness, so the drug my doctor prescribed is working! The only downside to the drug is that it makes anything that is carbonated taste like metal, which is very unpleasant. I guess it may be helping wean me off of my Coke Zero habit, lol! Actually there was no weaning — it was going cold turkey! Today we are going to drive around to see some of the sights nearby like the Red Rocks Amphitheater which is where a lot of famous concerts have been performed and continue to be. Tonight our great nephew’s school choir is singing the national anthem at the Colorado Rockies baseball game in Denver, so of course we have to go to that. Tomorrow we will be doing more sightseeing and then Thursday we head back home.

What a beautiful picture. Sounds like the trip is going well.

I heard Vance was Don Jr’s choice and he lobbied for Dad to pick him. Guess they have buyer’s remorse over that pick but they’d never admit it. Vance told the WSJ that he had proof in the form of a police report a woman made about her missing cat. She blamed her Haitian neighbor. Couple days later, she found the cat hiding in her basement. She apologized to the neighbor. Guess Vance didn’t do the follow up to see she withdrew the police report.

We are home from Colorado now. I enjoyed the trip but it’s good to be home. My medication worked very well and I only had a couple of times when I felt short of breath. Both times we were at a higher elevation and I was either walking uphill or climbing stairs and I recovered quickly both times. Colorado is beautiful, but I have no desire to live there. Our nephew and his family are very busy people and I felt like we were on the go the whole time we were there, so it’s nice to get back home and slow down again.

Pam - great photo! I'm glad you had a good trip and that the medication worked!

Helene - great backstory to the cat brouhaha. What a moron that Vance character is!

I can feel fall in the air and it really has me down. I love the arrival of spring and dread the coming of winter but since I never want to move any farther south I guess I just grin and bear it. Of course with climate change our winters aren't so terrible here lately.

Pam, glad you had a good time in CO. My BIL’s family type of vacation was like your nephew’s. Go, go, go. Not our style at all. We like to stay put instead of how many sights can we pack into a week.

Maryanne, DH was like you about winter before we started going to FL. It was dark before 5 pm and he found it depressing. In FL, the sun doesn’t set before 6 and rapidly moves towards 7. I doubt we’ll ever do a northern winter again. Have you considered one of those light therapy lamps. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is affected by the shorter sunlight hours.

My mother used one of those lights. I should check into it.

We have a cat show this weekend. I hope this ancient body stands up to it!

We got our ballots so we'll be voting. I had lunch with an acquaintance who said she's not voting at all. She's off my lunch list. This election is too important. Her story is "she sees good in everyone" which sort of explains nothing?

My biggest fear used to be tRump getting elected. Now it’s tRump getting elected, then dying or being killed or forced out of office due to his obvious declining mental health and then we are stuck with JD Vance. Might as well get fitted for your Handmaid’s Tale robe immediately if that happens. Vance is even scarier to me than tRump!

Vance is beyond bizarre! Not so sure he could pull off becoming a dictator like I'm afraid the cheeto will. Apparently Vance was Don Jr.'s pick. The whole family is whacko.

I just realized the hurricane barreling down on Florida is named Helene!

Helene - have you heard anything about your house?

It seems like we had no damage. I’ve been texting a year round neighbor. H walked over to my house(2 house from his) and said it didn’t look like we had and surge. I asked him to open the door to our storage room so air could get in there . Mold is a big issue there. Any lingering moisture sets the house up mold.

Helene, I’m so glad your home escaped damage! I know you’re still finishing up repairs from the last one, so it’s nice that you won’t have any additional issues to deal with. The flooding from that storm is horrendous! I feel so bad for the people who are losing their homes and livelihoods from it. I don’t understand how anyone can still be denying that climate change is having some very negative effects on all of us.

I agree about the climate deniers. Storms are stronger and more frequent. This was the third hurricane in 18 months to hit the FL panhandle. Helene was the strongest yet and affected states north of FLORIDA more than usual because it moved so fast. My area of FL spent a fortune on renourishing the beaches last year. Most of that sand is probably back in the ocean.

New free Covid tests are now available. It’s 4 tests per household. The website is covidtests.give. I just ordered ours.

I ordered ours on Saturday and they were delivered today! Pretty fast service, lol! I’m hoping we don’t need to use them but just learned that a friend tested positive this morning. I was with her over a week ago, so I’m probably safe.

Better to have the tests on hand just in case. I have a couple friends who just recently recovered from Covid. Both were pretty sick. I hadn’t seen them recently so I wasn’t exposed but it tells me Covid is around my area.

Some homes on the island were flooded again. We’re lucky that we’re in the middle of the island probably not more than a quarter mile from the water. But there are houses between us and the beach. I think they probably buffered us from the storm by taking the brunt of the surge.

I'm struggling to get back on my diet and stay on it. I just get SO tired of dieting.

I'm taking an acquaintance with me today when I feed the colonies; in hopes she'll be a backup just in case. She seems interested. What concerns me is whether she's physically up to it. We'll see.

Watching the weather forecast. It looks like Milton will become a hurricane and it’s headed for FL.
