    @KHill875 - Congratulations on setting up a successful walking routine by incorporating your workout into time with your children during drop off and pick up time. That’s a wonderful way to serve as a positive role model and help them build healthy habits! You’re making improvements and setting your family up for success for years to come so I hope you can give yourself some grace about your recent emotional eating. Maybe you can dedicate the return trip from the morning drop off to work through the emotions underlying the desire to relieve stress through food and find a replacement strategy. We’re pulling for you. Hang in there!

    @pupowl - I unplug my electronics during storms whenever possible and use an extension strip with a surge protector in my office. Recently, I heard that there is a product that connects to the electrical circuit breaker box for the house that prevents damage.

    I learned this when we returned from a recent trip to Boston to bring our sons home for the summer. One was working a summer internship job there and the other was taking summer courses at his university. We arrived home with extra laundry from the trip - and 20 and 22 year old sons - to find that our washing machine was not working!

    We bought it during the pandemic quarantine period* so it’s relatively new but I guess we forgot to get a surge protector for it. Many computers now have protection built in so I guess we just got careless.

    Anyway, there had been a storm while we were traveling and there must have been an electrical surge that shorted out the washing machine. We had to wait for an appointment with the diagnostic technician and then he had to order a part. So, we’ve been without a washing machine for a month — and we’re still waiting for the part and installation appointment.

    Pandemic supply chain tangent:
    *During the height of the pandemic, there was a delay in shipping our new machine and I was annoyed that my husband wouldn’t wait for the one that matched our existing color and size.

    The new one didn’t fit under the counter top I use for folding, it blocked the Dustbuster recharger so I couldn’t plug in the hand-held vacuum, etc. but I recognize we’re fortunate that we could afford to order a new one when other people were experiencing job loss and other problems.

    My organization downsized and my job was cut but I was able to start my own business. I still have a lot of work to do in the area of business development - or get serious about a job search - but the laundromat is a place that reminds me how fortunate I am to have opportunities open to me.

    Laundromat tangent:
    Whenever I’m at the laundromat — inserting all my coins and dealing with the inconvenience — I feel so grateful to have a washing machine and dryer at home. Sometimes, I like hanging laundry outside in nice weather, like we often did growing up, but it’s good to have the choice. It takes extra mental and physical energy to visit the laundromat.

    When I was the president of the Parent-Teacher Association for my sons’ elementary school, I advocated for a local business to allow us to offer tutoring and homework help at the laundromat because parents would be able to concentrate on getting the task done and the children wouldn’t be bored (which often leads to child antics and adult short tempers).

    They wouldn’t even consider taking our book donations to make a reading corner but it’s still an idea I’d like to pursue in the future. We did get a washer and dryer for the school - to support students with special needs - but the parents couldn’t access after hours, etc.

    I’ll definitely figure out a way to ‘pay it forward’ in the next year or two. For now, I better get to work on my website and/or job search! Have a great weekend everyone!

    Bit of an uptick from last weigh-in. The work-week was definitely more busy & stressful. I worked late with short lunches or lunch at my desk. I try to avoid doing that but it was just really busy. Overall I wasn't walking as much, and higher cortisol levels.

    @PatriceFitnessPal - such great perspective, I Love that! What a great idea 💕 absolutely worth pursuing, as a way to give back.

    @PatriceFitnessPal , I've been on the prebiotic since September 1st, I did experience some of the roto rootor problem as well as a lot of exhaust for the first few days but that soon cleared up. I started the prebiotic because I just bloated so bad even with eating the right foods, etc. My dietician and I tried to get a script for it from my dr, but she never came through so I got one after looking at different brands. And I did read several articles about them after I had started the prebiotic. Honestly, I'm just glad for the bloating to be gone. And being in my 50s and post menopausal, bloating can be a thing. Who knew.

    @Armygirlarmyof1 - Ha! 😂🤣😂 I had forgotten about the ‘exhaust.’ I’m glad you got relief from the bloating. I gave up seltzer water for that reason and I feel so much better!

    @Yukie_OP , I can relate to work stress. Now I'm mobile at work because I'm dealing with ppl all day but the stress is another story. We get a worker who causes drama or they find something to cause drama. Of course, we try to avoid subjecting the customers to it. (It's a Christian based store where we raise money for the poorest in our community). And we sure enough had a worker decide to leave but not after being creative with her drama.🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

    Hey @LaurieWrobo thanks for reporting in on that date. You had great stats for August. I can see though, why your focus would have been elsewhere. How's your MIL doing now? I hope she's getting her strength back. I can't remember...does she live close to you and your family or is it a bit of a journey to see her?

    Just reporting my steps ,sorry its been a while @jessicakrall8 but I can only get on WiFi at my hotel & it's a bit erratic.
    We have moved to Paros Island after spending 6 days on Naxos.The ferry we had booked was cancelled so it was a rush to get new tickets in time.The ferry experience is not for the faint hearted but we are used to it now.Its noisy,busy & chaotic,but worth it when you get there.
    My back is still painful at times but I can move easier.I will try & post some photos later.

    I'm not there yet, but I hope to reach a point when I can switch to maintenance. I've been thinking about how I'll manage that and what I'll need to do to be successful. I'd like to continue to post my weight as a measure of accountability. But I don't want to confuse things. So I came up with this idea: post a slightly different format that does three things: 1) is easy to distinguish as maintenance, 2) conveys my chosen weight range, and 3) shows where I am this week and where I was last week.

    I'm a data geek, good at spreadsheet programming, and I came up with the following automated text:
    Maintenance check-in
    PW: 220 |++++X++++| 230 <-- shows I weighed 225 prior week
    CW: 220 |++++++X++| 230 <-- shows I weighted 227 current week

    (I plan to set my range to 210-220, but I used 220-230 above to demonstrate with my current status)
    Would this be okay?

    So sorry. I was out of town this weekend.

    Not sure what happened with my September 3rd step count. I think I just forgot to post it during the August/September transition. Hopefully, I'm not too late to get it in.

    9/9 - 7,220

    Yeah, shipping from the US isn't nice. I sometimes see fun merch from people I want to support, but the shipping is often more expensive than the thing I am looking to buy. Plus getting more taxes on top of it that you aren't aware of ahead of time. The cheapest Egyptian cotton bedsheets I found were 60 euros, only 200TC and already on sale. So I don't think they will ever be in an affordable price range here, but I will keep an eye out. Maybe it is just something that is cheaper over there.
    @CasandraW
    Windmill cookies sounds cute! I am trying to eat only 2-3 a day, but failing miserably at it. They are so addicting. I looked up when our last white christmas was: 2010! That is really sad. Our winters in general are really lame. It is more an extended autumn with a few frosty mornings thrown in. I love snow, so I keep hoping for it every winter.
    @PatriceFitnessPal
    Power surges are really annoying, and they can even happen randomly without any storms. A few years ago my computer randomly stopped working and the guy I took it to told me it was likely caused by a power surge. It destroyed my motherboard and power supply. I now also use a special power strip for my computer with surge protection.

    What a lovely beach! And funny you walked past your hubby. Though to be fair, a beach doesn't have a lot of landmarks! I hope your back keeps getting better and that you are able to enjoy your holiday.

    Hi @frankwbrown the format works fine with me...I can easily read it and if there's ever a question, I'll just ask you. Just so you know though...while you're in the regular team, your weigh-ins count towards team stats. Once you go into The Goal Zone (Mainenance), your weigh-ins are recorded, but they're not included in the stats, so make sure you're ready and spend a few weeks or so in your desired weight range before making the leap. As @PatriceFitnessPal can attest, it's a whole different ballgame switching from losing to maintaining. I'm sure she'll have some advice or at least a story to share.

    Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

    I appreciate the extra challenge to move, @jessicakrall8. Our masters (old people) soccer league starts tonight so I’ll get more exercise tonight than I’ve had in a while. My muscles are sore from the personal training session I had with my husband yesterday but I’ll do my best to run up and down the field tonight. I’m not a skilled player but I do a decent job getting in the way of the opponents. I’m a bit worried that I haven’t been running at all and my cardio exercise has been very short bursts this summer. We’ll see how it goes … I always say, “It’s a win if nobody gets hurt,” especially the first match of the season!

    I’m glad your mother in law is doing better @LaurieWrobo. Thanks for the update!

    Great step reports, @frankwbrown and others, as always. Keep up the good work!

    So, yesterday’s weight was 191.8. My scale was acting wonky today and I think it was because it needs new batteries. It showed 187, 195, and 194 for today. I’lol be changing batteries today (had to get some), so I can submit a weight tomorrow or use yesterday’s weight.

    Thank you. After reading the following comment, I got confused about the difference between being "moved to the Support team" vs being in maintenance mode.
    Bearchested
    Friday
    CW: 194.2

    Got the diet a bit more under control after the holiday weekend.

    Hi @bearchested ...wtg on your loss this week. You asked to be moved to the Support team for a while to work on body comp. Are you wanting to be moved back to active now? While in the Support team, you don't need to report your weigh ins, but you can still chat and participate in the step challenge. Let me know as I'm not sure what to do with your weigh in. Thanks!
    Jessica

    So, since you'll still record my weight once I'm in maintenance mode, I'll just continue to post using the regular format, since that seems easiest for you. I'll just add a little embellishment at the end, which you can ignore.

    Thank you for your efforts on the administrative side of things. You make it all easy for the rest of us.
