Apologies that I've managed to be even more MIA now that I'm home than I was in Costa Rica.
Work is a zoo and I had two work dinners so far and one work lunch. Free time for me has been non-existant.
Hoping to catch up on posts and get the step report for last week out on Saturday.
@jugar Brad had to go up to Edmonton for work right away but he's home tonight so his weigh-in for the week won't come in until tomorrow. Not sure he'll have time to log on and let you know before then.. but it's coming!!5 -
I've been a bit absent as work has consumed me the last 2 weeks. I had a notification of over 70 posts to read when I logged in last night. I'm avoiding the 'revenge bedtime procrastination' now that I know it's a 'thing' so I've decided to catch up while trapped on the bus into the office as a way of coping. Luckily I was able to get a seat!
My tabata class last night was good and I have hockey again tonight (it feels like WEEKS since I played last) so if I can keep my eating in check, my weigh in should be ok. I brought a few too many tasty carbs into the house this week so hopefully I can stay strong with portions. I have not been logging or drinking adequate water. I'm terrified of having to go pee on my hour long commute home in the afternoons so I'm not drinking water during the day. Just one more reason to resent my job... Sigh. I will find a balance someday, I'm sure!
I'm in for Green March! Small consistant losses add up to goals being achieved.

Yay! Heading in the right direction. I'm not super focused on weight loss at the moment. Trying to focus on the stress thing which will help with weight loss. I've been reflecting on stress and I just have a lot on my plate. This is my last semester of my masters. I have been really productive and have done 90% of it at work during my paperwork time. At this point that isn't enough time and I need to add time for it at home. I feel bad when it takes family time but it's short term. I'm backed up on paperwork at work due to conference week, daily notes and a ton of evals that all showed up at once. I will be caught up by next Thursday and I just need to let it go.
Today I took the day off work because my boys have to go to the orthodontist after lunch. This morning I scheduled a facial. I've never had one before. Hopefully it will be a nice experience!5 -
Weigh in Day: THURSDAY

It's been a good week for fitness and weight loss for me. I've been walking every day, strength training, and drinking lots of water. I've also been trying to keep my protein up and carbs a bit lower, which I think has helped my body to feel more nourished and to retain less water.
I had a job interview this morning for a supermarket assistant job, mainly shelf stacking duties. It appealed to me because I thought it would be a good way to keep active and I enjoy working within the community. The hours are 6am to 12pm 3 days a week so it would leave me plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day and it's very flexible so I can work around other commitments.
Fingers crossed I get it but they do have a lot of applicants.5 -
I hopped on the scale this morning. It's funny how being closer to fasting helps. I DID get on yesterday and weighed in at 147...but that was after coffee/breakfast. This morning I only had my protein drink so we'll go with this number

The damage wasn't as bad as I thought after my hubs got me a strawberry cheesecake from a place called Junior's in NY (the box it came it was NOT discrete and had 'CHEESECAKE' written all over it ). Unfortunately last week also resulted in having to get lunch out twice and I didn't get a chance to workout from Tuesday to Friday.
GOOD NEWS though! I passed my skills assessment for my health coaching and can now start seeing clients. I need to have 50 20-minute sessions logged in order to take the national board certification exam. If any of you are interested, I'd love to set something up!
As a side note - send good vibes to my puppy, Atlas! He just turned 1 on the 2nd, so he's going in to get fixed today!

@lauren_989 You're so lucky! Asheville is where my soul belongs! One day I'll make it there, but right now I'm stuck in the hell that is Montana. We're looking at -20...-40 with windchill
I'm sure our Canadians feel my pain, although the puppy loves it and gets snow zoomies4 -
Hey all, thanks for the warm welcome!. Still getting accustomed to the layout of this chat forum, so I apologize for any confused communication. I'm really needing a kick in the bum to motivate myself. I've gained some weight back and I just can't find it within myself to commit to losing the weight as much as I want to. I'm feeling discouraged about getting in shape too because of some pain I've been struggling with for years, most especially low back / hip pain. It's kinda silly that over the years I've nearly become an expert in my particular pain problem and I know what I need to do to heal it but lacking the motivation to do it on my own or lacking the money to work with someone to guide me.5

Happy Thursday Waistaway friends! Hope your days are going well. I am at school. Probably better to write now. Seems I keep waiting until the end of the day and fall asleep as I write. My kiddos are at rest time now, which simply means, I am not actively teaching. One child out of 16 is asleep. LOL. They are great kids though. I enjoy them so.
Today my daughter and son in law are closing on their new home. How exciting for them. Can't wait to be in that position as well. Must figure out a plan with my son so we can sell our house. it will all work out. Did see a really cute house today that was not my "normal" style, but my OH loved it too. More modern. Unfortunately, houses are still getting snapped up fast and we are not in a position to bid on it until we sell ours.
My weight is up the last two days. I'm not sure what I am doing differently than the last few weeks when I was losing. The only thing different is I am doing short exercises in the am. LOL I'm sure it has something to do with salt. It always does! I am not a big salt user, but we all know that it is in almost everything. My water is still not where it needs to be. My resting heart rate is still higher than normal, 71, and doesn't seem to want to come down. Perhaps some exercise would help that.
Today it is supposed to be very warm. Saturday VERY cold (for us) and in comparison to 70, Crazy weather. Sending good vibes to all those effected by this latest blizzard to zoom through northern USA and southern Canada. Take care all. Talk to you later.
Oh and welcome to @BrownMargaret3021 I hope you find this group as wonderful as the rest of us.

Welcome Margaret! I'm assuming that's your real name and I hope this team will be able to help you relieve the discouragement. We'll kick your butt as needed, but also generally cheer and commiserate as needed.
A couple of things we're working on:
We're aiming for "no zero days" - every day should include at least one gift for your future self. Skip that unhealthy snack, do a few hip bridges or whatever exercise even if it is just about bedtime, plan and log your food for at least one meal - you get the idea. Never go to bed without giving one gift, however small, to your future self. Some fun (but very salty language included!) descriptions of how this works are at https://meganeholstein.com/the-no-zero-days-productivity-mindset-might-change-your-life/
In March, we are all going to try to have five "weeks in the green". Our weigh-ins on the team spreadsheet show up in green if we lose some weight. Even if it is .01 lbs, it is green. We're going to see how much green we can spread all over that thing in March. Every tiny loss counts!
So please let us know more about you - where you live (if you're comfortable sharing that), and anything else you would like to let us know. Of course, ask any questions you might have about how things work, etc. Welcome to the WAs!3 -
@micki48 we were on the same wavelength this morning, I think! For once, I got my exercise in before noon, and you wrote to us while at work. Good move! I'm so glad your daughter and her OH are closing on a house, and all my wishes are with you for your son to find the job of his dreams and that you'll be able to sell your house soon. That kind of stress is rough, and certainly does not help with your resting heart rate. Keep checking off those little things that you CAN do and slowly the list will shrink, I hope!3

I have done hot yoga before. I say go for it, unless you're someone who really doesn't like being warm. You will feel it for sure, but if you just embrace it you should enjoy the experience, and if the heat gets too intense at any point you can always just hang out in child's pose and give yourself a break
Warm welcome to the team @BrownMargaret3021 .. happy to have you here
@PlaneMonkey
Are you feeling the effects of the commuting on your free time? I can't get over how crunched everything has felt since we started back at the office more days than not. My healthy lifestyle hasn't been as easy. I know that's an excuse but I'm finding it hard to balance it all.
@jugar
You mentioned something about weight loss that is true
Ashley when she got to the weight I'm at how was over the moon
Ashley who is back at this weight now feels frustrated
When I get frustrated, it doesn't tend to motivate. I have to shake the negativity about it because it won't help.6 -
Happy Friday!
My day has started with an early morning run - more walking than running admittedly because my legs are very tired. I think the rest of me is tired too. I'm in a meeting now (started at 7.30am - the downside of working with colleagues/customers in a different time zone!) then I'll go have a shower and hopefully it'll wake me back up.
Tomorrow I'm doing a course on fruit tree grafting and pruning. I've never tried to graft but I find pruning to be quite daunting, so I'm looking forward to it. This does mean cramming a few things in today and Sunday though.
We're having a beef Rogan Josh for tea tonight; I'm re-making the one I burnt a week or two ago and shall endeavour to avoid a repeat performance. I've planned the meals for the rest of the week - there are a couple of convenience foods (breaded haddock and chicken kievs, plus a batch-cooked turkey tikka masala) for the days we're busier than usual, a chicken stir fry, a pork stew and some marinated lamb steaks. We haven't done any proper batch cooking for a while, usually just making 4 portions and freezing the leftovers, but I don't think this is a good weekend to get back into it!5 -

Slight rebound but there is also some food in transit that has decided to overstay its welcome. More fibre will be added to the diet this weekend to compensate.
@ashleycarole86 I resent every moment of my job these days due to this commute. I have upgraded my app for the bus system as there are multiple routes to get me from point a to b but they leave from different street corners within minutes of each other so its a challenge (or a gamble) which one will arrive first. The app depends on the GPS tracking of bus riders so if it's the first stop on the route, it's a bit of a mystery when it will actually arrive....
I get home some days by 6pm and have to cook and eat dinner before my exercise class at 7pm some nights. Then the rush after to shower, prep lunch and get to sleep to do it all again the next day has made me a cranky human. I also have exams on Monday mornings so Sundays are ruined with studying. My life is no longer my own and my husband is feeling very neglected.
One sort-of silver lining is it costs me so much money to commute to work that I have vowed to not spend an extra penny on restaurants so I've managed to avoid the extra calories from the Starbucks caramel macchiato and McDonald's in the building on the corner next to the office. They have both called my name repeatedly as I angrily stomped past in the snow.
I'm hoping more balance will come. longer days should help my attitude, and hubby is looking into a gym membership so he can have something to do as I seem to be gone all the time. This will ease a bit of my guilt. I've started to delegate some of the meal prep to him but I'm still the planner and shopper so it doesn't really ease my burden. He's one of those men that if you ask them to plan dinner, they tell you where to stop and pick up takeout on your way home. He even offers to call ahead so it's ready for me.... Yeah, that's not exactly what I had in mind! Lol. But!!! His daughter is graduating high school in June and he's decided he wants to look better in the grad photos than he currently does so if we start a countdown to that event, maybe he will stay the course.
Rant over! The bus has arrived in Ottawa. Time to learn about international agreements on civil aviation maintenance regulations and requirements. So fun. 😉

I thought I would have a bigger loss since I haven't been eating much. Oh well. Poor Jonas got my stomach bug yesterday morning during a staff meeting.🤦♀️ I was sitting in the front row with him we I could tell he was about to puke. I picked him and ran, but we didn't make to the trash. He pukes all over me and himself.
Here's to a healthier March...in so many ways!!!6 -

I’m noticing a trend where I always gain the last week of the month! How annoying!4 -

Hi @jugar! I can’t weigh-in this week because my scale is packed away and we are moving this weekend. I should be ready to go next week in the March chat thread.3

Hi team,
Well, back to real life this week after 3 weeks in paradise (Costa Rica) - truly the best trip of my life. It was absolute bliss to be able to spend 3 solid weeks with my BFF @ashleycarole86.
When I weighed myself on Monday, I hadn't put my glasses on for the day and I swore the scale read "24..." I was shocked. I thought I'd gained close to 50 pounds while we were gone. I knew I ate more than usual and my clothes were feeling tighter, but this was too much. I stepped off the scale and got closer to the screen and realized it read 214 not 24?. Not great, but much better.
This morning I weighed myself again and I was down 4 pounds already to 210.8.
So, here's my wrigh-in for the week:
Username: Bowens1973
PW: N/A - Didn't weigh in over our holiday.
CW: 210.8
Should be fun to see how quickly I can break the 200's and get back on track to be in the 160s.
Have a great week all!

Good morning WaistAways!
PW: 176.8
CW: 175.0
It's been a long time since I've done a proper update, so I'll do that now! I've got my egg white and ham wrap and my coffee, let's do this.
Starting most recently, I've been practicing my splits almost-daily, and I'm starting to see progress, which is very exciting. I'm also seeing progress in dancing ability with video I took from recent routines and comparing them to the same routines months ago. All very exciting. And all this working out (at least 4 hours every week) has me feeling, I think the kids these days say, snatched. I can feel the muscles working as I move, even as I walk, like a panther or something. Great feeling.
The whole fam had a stomach bug last weekend, and so my weight dropped instantly because of that, and then I've been staying around there all week, which is honestly nice.
Because of the bug, I started this week on mostly carbs, not much fat or protein. That got me back to feeling 100%, but also, I found I had a lot more energy with the increase in carbs. Which makes sense from an academic perspective, that's what carbs do, but I'd forgotten about the magic mood and energy ability of carbs, haha.
So! I've decided this week to try to be a little more vegetarian, get my protein from not-meat a little more, to see how that makes me feel, and so my work food is going to be:
Pre-work coffee and 25g of a zucchini cake I made and froze a while back (I've found life is so much better with a little sweet thing with my coffee)
Breakfast: Casey Johnson's swoalts using barley instead of oatmeal, because I've got a lot of barley (pandemic prepping), and pescience cookies and cream protein powder
Lunch: Chickpea salad with za'atar (I've got some cabbage from the garden to use up, and lots of dried chickpeas from pandemic prepping, haha) and an apple
I think all of this, pre-dinner, ends up being somewhere around 800-850 calories, leaving me a good allowance for dinner and dessert cals.
Tag party time!
@bowens1973 extremely cute almost-sitcom like scenario, haha
@wishfuljune I hope the move goes well!
@DianaGetsFit512 I mean, higher end of the month weight means that you get a little whoosh beginning of the next month, I say.
@KellyBgetsfit oh no! I am the worst about that kind of thing, whenever someone's throwing up even in my general area I feel nauseous, I hope he's feeling better now.
@PlaneMonkey I SO feel you on commutes, meal preparing, and gym hours! Between my gym (half an hour away, so I always go for at least two hours at a time), the commute to/from, work, kid's activities, and making food as opposed to getting takeaway or fast food, I'm barely ever at home and relaxing anymore. Longer days at least feel better, haha, and I hope that you come to a place in your schedule where you feel more balanced.
@DD265 oooh, fruit tree grafting! That sounds like great fun.
@ashleycarole86 I really feel this about going back to work. I definitely appreciated, in 2020, when we were all at home, rolling out of bed and getting to work at 4am, and being done with work by noon. Nowadays, I get up at the same time, but leave for work at 0545 to start work at 0620, and don't get home until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. My whole day is gone, and then gym takes the rest of it 3 days a week. Ugh.
@jugar I'm going to try my best at five weeks in the green, although my weight loss is currently so slow that I might not make green with all the noise. I'm going to try!
@micki48 I find, when I increase activity, that the new muscle use causes me to retain water for a while after. So, just keep trucking. I hope your house can sell soon, so you can get to the fun part.
@BrownMargaret3021 Hi! One thing I find myself saying a lot is that "future me is going to thank me for this." So when I'm batch cooking when I really just want to be sitting down watching a show, I tell myself, "future me is going to love this food she doesn't have to make." "Future me is going to love having a clean floor tomorrow morning." Maybe you could take care of yourself as a gift to your future self?
I think that's all the time I've got for tags this morning, everyone, have a great Saturday!5
