Shape Shifters Team Chat - JUNE 2023

I’m hoping to get to sleep early tonight. I’m trying to finish up a job application and send some invoices but I guess I’ll submit the invoices tomorrow instead, because I have to go to bed soon if I’m going to arrive at the boathouse by 6:15am tomorrow morning.
It was a little difficult to keep up with the more experienced scullers this morning - due to my lack of sleep and achy muscles - but I had a good row overall. I think I improved one percent since my last sculling session! 😉
I’ve been trying to become more consistent with my sleep but I haven’t been too good about it lately. My 21 year old son and my husband have been up late and I guess I have some ‘Fear of missing out (FOMO)’ going on —
Today is the Juneteenth holiday in the U.S., but I was working to catch up on a few projects. I am attending a movie screening on Thursday to consciously mark the day though —
I also listened to a C-Span radio broadcast of Reverend Wheeler Parker talking about his book A Few Days Full of Trouble: Revelations on the Journey to Justice for My Cousin and Best Friend, Emmett Till The Reverend has dedicated his life to spreading peace, while pursuing justice for the murder and lynching of his cousin. I really like C-Span because it is one of the rare media outlets that feels truly neutral in its coverage of important issues. I’ll include a link to the rebroadcast/recording in case anyone is interested:

Evening yall. I'm back from my weekend but on vacation thru Thursday. I return to work on Friday. I really didn't wanna 😕 😒 😩 😫 😪 come home but stay with hunny bunny. He had a wonderful Father's Day and his gift bag from me was Stuffed with gifts that he absolutely loved 😍. And we went to Golden Corral for dinner with his mom. I asked her if she'd liked to come. And she did and she enjoyed it. I thought that she might wanna celebrate Father's Day with us so.5

@Zaxa2021 I haven’t been logging my calories consistently I did log a few things today, and I was shocked to see that the tiny pot of cashew nuts that I regularly enjoy has a whopping 350 calories! Thank you for the reminder to log my calories, as I do get lazy with that, and I shouldn’t.
…
I had the same revelation about the high number of calories that nuts added to my diet! They are healthy fats, and a good way to add protein, but the number of calories surprised me once I started paying more attention to portion sizes. Another culprit was dates 😳. I love them but it’s difficult to eat just two unless I really concentrate!
My solution has been adding a dollop of Greek yogurt on top of fruit and then sprinkling a small amount of granola or chopped nuts. on top of fruit. The high protein in the yogurt and nuts seems to keep the (natural) sugar from rushing into my system while the fruit satisfies my afternoon sweet tooth. When I have a good flow of healthy nutrition, I find it easier to savor a couple of chocolate covered raisins or nuts; however, I have to be careful not to overindulge or I’ll go off the rails. So, I try to make it really intentional to enjoy high quality sweets instead of chasing a sugar fix that never satisfies me.
I’m glad you’ve been able to make some discoveries through your nutrition and exercise tracking! Keep up the good work!

Hazel and I went on a hike yesterday. We've got a bit of a drought. We were able to hike down where the water usually flows.

So I taught my first “mini” Jazzercise class (4 routines) on Sunday, and am scheduled to teach more during the week. Learning new routines every day, and I should be able to teach a 60-minute class (15-17 routines) in a few weeks. It’s a heck of a lot harder than it looks to cue and talk through 15 routines!! But I am enjoying it a lot!

Going to see my Doctor in the morning...absolutely detest going to the doctor, so think of me for a moment around 8am ET if you're so inclined...going straight to work afterward...hoping my Doctor is proud of the changes I've made...hope she doesn't ask me to do a whole list of new things...I'm still getting used to the 10k daily steps and strength exercises...working harder on nutrition...
I'm determined to get this poundage off!!

Wow! 🤩— You’re going to have to prepare another speech! It looks as though you might be destined for another leader board appearance! 🏆3 -
Nice photos @Cyncia85! I’ve heard many dry spots are predicting rainfall so I hope the rains are gentle and replenish the water only where you need it 🌦️4
-
@nancyinmo fantastic! I imagine it takes a lot of skill and practise to dance, teach and encourage all at once.
@jessicakrall8 I will send positive thoughts your way. I always feel nervous wondering how they will react.6 -
I love the way the Jazzercise community is promoting your training certification, and supporting you! You look so strong, fit, and happy.
About 35 years ago, I completed an aerobic instructor training program but moved to Japan after leading only a few classes. I definitely agree that the experienced instructors make it seem much easier than it is, but I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! Once you learn a few routines, I’m sure you’ll be great at combing and mixing the moves. Arranging the music and ending at just the right time are additional challenges. I always hoped there were no classes following mine because I always needed more time for the cool down and stretch.
Congratulations on all your milestones! Many people find transitions difficult but you seem to be embracing your new experiences and handling your move so smoothly!! 😌5 -
Can I ask for some advise?
How do you end a friendship? I mean it’s already over but I need closure. This is my only friend, and has been my friend since 11th grade 20 some odd years ago
She stop including me in her life just before COVID. I made a point of reaching out and visiting her both at the farmers market, stopped by her new storefront when it opened etc. unfortunately the economy closed her side business down so that’s been hard for her I’m guessing. I wouldn’t really know because she doesn’t talk to me about anything personal anymore. (I don’t offer unsolicited advise, I listen, I don’t turn it around and make it about me) so I don’t think that’s why.
Any ways, I reached out about a year ago and said I missed the friendship we had. She said she does too, sorry she doesn’t reach out much, I’m her “person” (Greys Anatomy reference). But when I try to make plans they never go anywhere. We don’t talk on the phone, we don’t text etc.
sometimes I wonder if her new husband is controlling? I don’t really know him. I’ve only met him a couple times but got some bad vibes from him.
I feel like I need to say goodbye, but leave the door open to reach out to me if she ever needs anything. Maybe the husband is an issue 🤷♀️ and she needs help.
I also can’t keep getting birthday flowers and happy Mother’s Day texts from her either. They make me so sad.
I am sorry for the long post. I don’t know what to do6 -

Ugh... not meeting my goals, unmotivated, in a funk... need to work my way back.6 -
Mid-week check-in. I started using my exercise bike over the past couple of days, just to switch things up a little (again, thanks for the tips everyone). I have a bad habit of daily weighing, but was pleasantly surprised this morning as it was showing I’ve lost a few pounds. Now, the last time this happened, my weight had went up again when my weigh-in day came around
I’ll continue using my exercise bike, walking and making healthier food choices. I’d love to be able to upload some photos here (walks/nature,Fitbit stats etc) but it always says “upload failed” or “you do not have permission”. I’m using an iPhone 12. Does anyone have any tips on how to get around these error messages? Thanks all x5 -

Sunday was a big recovery day after Saturday's hike. I didn't take a step unless I absolutely had to. I was still quite sore on Monday but managed to take my boys for a walk. I was able to get back to the gym for a run on Tuesday.
