TLDR version = Overcoming small setbacks can be good for us — it makes it easier to overcome bigger ones in the future!
Today, I’m dedicating my lunch time to drive my (younger) son to work. He takes the Metro (Tube, Subway, T, etc.) but the timing works out for me to drive him on my way to a meeting, which saves him a lot of time since he won’t have to walk 15 minutes to the train station. The direct train line also takes a more roundabout route, but it’s sometimes just easier not to transfer. So, it will take us about 15-20 minutes to get there instead of the usual 50 minutes for him. It’s been really humid so the ride will feel more comfortable, too.
He applied for a few internships this summer. He only got a call for one interview and he thought it went well, but he wasn’t selected. He had worked in their Boston office last summer, and his supervisors encouraged him to apply to the Washington, DC office this year, but they ended up hiring a couple of other applicants. They offered him a position in the Boston office again but he wanted to try something new and spend more time with his local friends this year.
Maybe he can apply for the internship again next year. He decided to add another major, which means he’ll likely need to extend his time at the university by another semester. So, I’m sure it will all work out in the end. He was disappointed he wasn’t hired for the job (that he sort of expected he’d get), but I was glad to see him persevere.
He’s taking an online summer class and he went to an interview on Friday — and he was hired! So, he started his new job yesterday. It’s going to be challenging work (outdoors in the heat, long hours, late shifts, pressure to raise money for the cause/environmental projects), and he’ll be busy balancing his online class and work, but the job is related to his environmental major so I think it will be good experience.
Most of you know what I’m going to add next 🥁🪘🥁 … That’s right! — Fall down seven times, get up eight! (My favorite samurai expression for the new comers — welcome!!)5 -

I've been coasting lately. Not really focused on what I need to do weight loss wise, but also not completely off the rails. Time to rein it back in and get back to basics. I recommitted to measuring and tracking every bite (at least for a few weeks) and even though it's only been a day, I can already see the serving size/calorie creep. I should also be in the chat more as I am hitting the app tracking my food.
I am very close to some pretty major milestones and I'm going to use them to motivate me.
Today's weight 205
50 pounds 204.6 - 0.4 to go to reach it
Onderland 199.8 - 5.2 to go
Overweight instead of Obese (BMI 29.9) 196.6 - 8.4 to go
@Cyncia85 - beautiful pictures from your walk - those stairs would have had me saying no. (or maybe, is there a different way?)
@jessicakrall8 - Way to go on the steps!!!
@JScottJr1988, @cortexarticle8797 - Welcome
@Walela617 - Welcome back
@Jlswensen - love the quote
@JenHul - hope your head is feeling better today6 -

There is a different way. Many other parking lots around that forest preserve. I chose that one for the stairs.
I'm rooting for you as you reach your milestones!!!3 -

Good morning Shape Shifters. Here is todays card. Happy Wednesday everyone3

I know I haven't been active here much lately. We had very hot weather for the past two weeks and as I expected, my energy levels went below zero. I had a hard time sleeping and I had pretty bad headaches all day long so I also had to go to bed during the day. I haven't been on any walks or bike rides so there hasn't been much to share. I just got some garden pictures I will share under the spoiler. The seeds I planted in the big patch I dug up didn't seem to do much, so I redid it a few days ago and now it is looking better thankfully.
Sunday night Tinus started limping again. He was off the meds for only two weeks this time before it came back. He had a grooming appointment on Monday so they kept him for a while after to take new pictures. The vet saw minor signs of arthritis, but she thinks the problems are coming from light spondylosis in his neck that also showed on the pictures. So that is pretty crappy. We are now starting him on monthly injections which also slows down progression of the spondylosis, so hopefully we can keep him comfortable for a long time. I have no idea how long that will be though. As long as he is happy, I am happy.6 -

@CasandraW
Thank you! I am not sure either, maybe the birds ate them. A lot of the mixes said to just spread the seeds out and then push them down a bit with something flat so they touch the soil properly. Maybe they got washed away from watering. So now I just made small grooves and covered them up and that went much better. Thankfully I still had seeds left over.3 -
@TexanMom8152 You are so close! Cheering for you!
@Pupowl sorry about Tinus and you not feeling that great either. I hope his injections help. It is hard to see a loved animal hurt. I wish they could talk, I'm sure Tinus enjoys all the birds and butterflies you share in your photographs.
My son went to Chicago yesterday with some friends to see a Cubs baseball game. The air quality is so poor from the wildfires it was the worst in the world yesterday. We've been lucky so far in Colorado.4 -
@pupowl — Gorgeous photos! 🤩🤩🤩
Tinus is fortunate to have you looking out for him. I hope the injections give him some relief. ❤️🩹
I’ve been thinking of you so I was glad to see your update but I’m sorry to hear the weather has lowered your energy level and caused headaches. Is it low blood pressure that causes the headaches?
I hope there is an improvement in the weather for you and others who are experiencing such high temperatures. It has been hot and humid here, but we had a rainstorm last night so today feels a little better.
Best wishes, everyone!

@SavageMrsMoose Thank you! The oral painkillers we had didn't work very well anymore, he was still limping the whole of Monday. Thankfully yesterday I saw a huge improvement and today I can't tell anymore so hope that means he is painfree.
@PatriceFitnessPal Sunday was our last really hot day. We also got some rain which is nice. Managed to get some decent sleep as well. My headaches are just from the heat and the sun and lack of sleep I think. But who knows really. I have headaches every day, but it just gets so much worse in summer.3 -
Zaxa2021 Weigh in
Wednesday
PW: 146.8

Loss: 0.6 lbs
Weight is coming off a little slower than I would like. I felt like I was doing better than a half pound loss this week. I tightened up my diet a lot and have been running a bit more. But at least I'm going in the right direction.6 -

I was extra tired yesterday, so I decided to make it a rest day. Proud of my steps for Sunday and Monday, though.5 -
@pupowl, many prayers for Tinus as he makes my day when I see pictures of him. He's just so gorgeous and what one couldn't love about that face, honestly.
Ik some of us depending upon where we're at in the world are experiencing yucky weather...heat with horrid humidity in my corner of the world...boohoo. But July 4th is next week and some areas are canceling fireworks as we've had no rain lately. We don't need fires like what's been happening in Canada. I'm hoping that the rain clouds will grace us soon.
My left knee is starting to feel better. But I slept wrong and wrenched my back but it's easing up today. Thank goodness for that as well. I've been doing the exercises I needed to do to help. Lets see what happens5 -
Hey y'all:
No storm damage just some branches down from the neighbor's tree in my yard...last night wasn't as bad as Monday's were...appreciate everyone's kindness in your comments and positive thoughts for me. I felt them...as I'll be honest...other than when the lightning was crazy around 3am, I slept through the rest of it.
Today, it's hot as you-know-where...I can't complain, as I feel really bad for anyone in Texas...triple digits and hotter than anywhere else on earth, other than the Sahara Desert I just heard on the news...CRAZY...climate change don't play!
I just walked for a half hour...gotta do another bout before bed...trying to walk the treadmill in front of the fan is all I can do...very hectic day at work...two more days and then looking forward to a quiet weekend...two days off for good behavior! LOL Sucks that my boss is off on Monday because I was hoping to take it...we're off Tuesday for Independence Day...will help to break up the week...
Hope everyone has a nice evening tonight!
Jessica

@Armygirlarmyof1 Thank you. Hopefully it progresses slowly and we will have plenty more time together. I take a lot of pictures of him already, so sharing them wont be a problem. I am glad you are feeling better.3

Good morning Shape Shifters. Here is the card for today. Happy Thursday everyone4

I have a new puzzle haul to share! Tinus' vet bill was a decent amount (250 euros) and then I felt bad about the puzzels, even though I ordered them before he started walking badly again. So I decided to stop being stupid. The whole point of my savings is that I have money in case things like this happen with Tinus. So I took the vet bill out of my savings and I will just enjoy my puzzles! Next month I can probably replace the savings again anyway. I am really happy with all of these puzzles and can't wait to work on them. I have a ridiculous amount of new ones though, so it will take a while to get through them all.6
-
@Pupowl Love your puzzle selection! Some look pretty hard, though. I especially like the polar bear one!
A quiet day today. Planning on a morning hike with my husband and then some miles on the Peloton. I'm doing a bike challenge with a group here on MyFitnessPal. Another Shape Shifter is on it too! The goal is to ride 2023 miles in 2023. Last year, I didn't reach my goal, but did do 2022 kilometers. After a couple of slow months, I'm back on track, having passed the halfway mark,
We are having an old friend come visit this weekend- he was the best man at our wedding. Also, our daughter and her fiance arrive Sunday. We will have a full house on the 4th which is nice. There are lots of festivities in Telluride and the weather should be good here. My poor parents are pretty much confined to indoors in Houston and my son is having terrible smoke from the Wildfires in Indiana. Hopefully, both will end soon.
Have a great day everyone!6 -

I only walked to work on Mon & Tues. I got my daughter to pick me up after my shift as my headache was still hanging around. Yesterday was first day without waking up with a headache. Have a great day everyone!4 -
Temps here are nuts. If yall are in areas where the Temps, and even the humidity, has lost its ever loving mind, we need to do a rain dance...not the Noah's ark kind of rain, but something to make everything look pretty again7

Quick check-in
I haven’t exercised much this week, but I have been eating better. I recently made an “impulse buy”….a pair of roller skates (quad wheels). I’m 33 and I haven’t skated since I was around 9 years old I just remembered how fun it was back then, and thought why not! After a quick Google, I found a roller skating place around 10 miles away which holds roller discos for people of all ages. If my skates arrive on time, I’ll go there next week to try them out. Not only should it be fun, but it’ll be a great way of getting some additional exercise in!
Do any of you roller skate? Or would you try it again?
Hope you’re all keeping well x7
