Welcome to our new and returning Shape Shifter team members! Everyone seems to be starting the month strong. Good work on the steps and goal-setting! Here’s my belated introduction —
My name is Patrice and I’ll be 57 next month. I live in northern Virginia, close to Washington, DC in the USA. I joined MFP in December 2019 at 168 pounds, which is considered an overweight Body Mass Index (BMI) for my height (just under 5’4” tall).
I signed up for the F2F Challenge group in June 2021 because I felt a bit stalled at 135 pounds. After about three months with the group, I achieved my goal weight of 125 pounds in September 2021, but I’m still learning how to maintain my weight within the125-130 target range that I set for myself. I’m fine with the slow rate of loss now that I’m close to my goal weight; but, I want to be careful not to continue creeping up again over time.
I’ve been hovering back at 135 for awhile and I recognize that my biggest challenge is getting the right nutritional balance. I’m still within the ‘normal’ range, which is the most important milestone for me; but, sustaining my weight at 125-130 pounds will put me in the middle of the BMI range and account for my usual rhythm of winter gains and summertime losses. These are some of the patterns I’m learning about as I review my tracking data as part of our weekly reflections and weigh in. Feeling accountable to the other group members helps keep me challenged and on track. I appreciate the insights, support, and encouragement of our team!

Good morning Shape Shifters. I spent another early morning in the national park. Biked for an hour (it's shorter, but got distracted a lot on the way) and then walked 7 kilometers. It was a very nice morning with an amazing sunrise and some mist on the fields. I saw another crane, my first ever eurasian spoonbills (very far away) and another new bird! This time it was a wood warbler. I took like 20 pictures and only 2 of them were in focus, so that was a bit of a bummer. While I was attempting to chase the sound of the golden oriole, I got startled by a roebuck that jumped out of the bushes 2 meters in front of my bike! It was pretty funny.
I was very tired when I got home and had a long nap, but I also did a little more work in the garden and watered some plants.
Pictures under the spoiler as usual. Happy Tuesday everyone7 -

Sunday was just one of those days where I felt blah and didn't feel like going to the gym. So I didn't. One thing I'm proud of is learning how to give myself grace and not force myself to do something I really don't want to, even if I "should". I try to do what I need to, but also keep balance in mind so I don't get burned out. This approach has helped me so much, even if i have days when I fall short of my step goal.6 -

This morning I took a morning meeting on a walk. I figured why sit for 50 minutes when I could walk. Thankfully I have Webex on my phone and it worked out great! I got fresh air, lots of steps and I feel really good right now!
Love all the pictures @Pupowl

Where I live, there is heavy smoke from nearby forest fires so outdoor exercise isn't happening right now and I miss it! I'm happy to have indoor hockey tonight but my dog isn't getting her usual walks outside.
Hope you all are well!5 -

I had a review with the doctor from my program today and things are going well.
I am still insulin resistant but went from the high end of “mild insulin resistance” to the low end of “mild insulin resistance”
This is great news and I hope to be rid of it entirely by the end of summer. He feels I likely will need to continue a diet that is low in carbs for the foreseeable future but a treat occasionally is going to be okay.
I have lost 12 lbs, 7 cm off my waist and 9 cm off my hips.
My bloodwork for cholesterol and everything was good before and has improved as well.
He has also sent off a referral to a plastic surgeon to discuss skin removal (tummy tuck) for loose hanging skin on my lower abdomen. I could still loose another 30lbs but this doctor feels that might not be feasible and maintain good nutrition.
This is because of how heavy I was before. His medical opinion is that our “bodies” try to go back to its heaviest.
He says I should stay on these macros at 1,500 calories and see where I end up. I might get close to an additional 30 lbs but he warns not to risk nutrition for weight loss.
Sorry for the long rambling read.10 -
Congratulations on your breakthrough progress and learning, @CasandraW!
Thank you for posting the instructions for adding a photo under the ‘spoiler,’ too!

@looneycatblue - I think the term ‘wobbly pop’ is a reference to beer in Canada. I’m not sure if it’s Canadian slang or an actual beer name so I’ll defer to @JenHul on the details and apologize in advance if I’m wrong 😑!
I’m not much of a drinker these days but a cold beer by the camp fire after a day of fun in nature sure sounds nice! I’m glad you enjoyed your camping holiday @JenHul.3 -
@pedal_power - I was thinking about everyone affected by the fires today because it was overcast here. The air quality didn’t feel too bad for us but there was ash in the sky, which blocked out the sun. Some people claimed to smell smoke but I heard there was an unrelated fire somewhere nearby so the guy on the radio indicated that might have been what they smelled.
I hope everyone is safe and you can walk your dog outside again soon. Have fun at your hockey game!4
