Awesome exercise plans Magic. I am alternating swim with exercise bike and walking dogs at least 1 mile every morning. I overdid it in the swim yesterday because it felt so good but later on my back hurt but a little Tylenol and it was fine.

I am going to try a yoga class Sunday afternoon called rejevenate. Even though I have lost weight my stomach and back muscles are weak and my posture is bad. My stomach sticks out. I will see if this helps. In the past yoga has always been great for my back and stomach.

Trying the Ka'Chava coconut açaí protein powder mixed with coconut & Almond milk. It is not bad. I hope it is not a false hype.

Hi all! Not a terrible day at work but geeze we're so busy and backed up on everything. I hope I can do a LOT of catching up this weekend.

I have changed up my meal plan for next week. I'm too busy to cope with the shopping and prepping and cooking. It's just adding to my already considerably stressful week trying to plan and thinking about the time involved. So this week is going to be super duper simple! Oats with all my usual goodies (frozen berries and cherries, walnuts, chia/flax, cinnamon) for breakfast, big ol' salad for lunch, and soup and a fruit for dinner. I have some lentil soup that I froze and also some Dr. McDougall soups. For the salads I'll get box or bag lettuce and just chop up a couple peppers, get pre-shredded carrots, some love beets, grapes and cocktail tomatoes. I'll also add beans to the salads. Figuring this won't be more than a couple hours of shopping and prepping.

I need to remind myself this really doesn't have to be complicated and if there are weeks I can't or don't want to prep and cook, it's still easy enough to stay on plan.

Hahaha... Nanc your first post about meat sauce didn't have meat in quotes although I knew you meant that. So I noticed the quotes on the most recent one. Love how consistent you've been with exercise so far this month!

Ouch, Donna. Glad to hear your back pain cleared up quickly. I have taken a couple yoga classes over the past few months and enjoyed them.

Okay, have more work to do tonight so I'm going to get at it. Would like to be done before 8:00.

    today's plan

    coffee
    waffle
    carrot/apple juice
spaghetti with Gardein "meat" sauce and loads of veg. (I love that I made a huge batch on my weekend and I made individual servings of pasta to heat up separately so the noodles did not get mushy).
    cherries
    watermelon
corn on the cob at home

Yay Magic!!! That is a triathlon right there: Walk, Swim and Bike!!!! Are you going to swim laps? I just love the feeling of being in the water. I hope when I get all my medical issues squared away I can snorkel or even scuba dive again. We plan to go to Hawaii next year for our anniversary! I never swam laps until 2018 I took adult swim lessons to do senior triathlons and learned I loved it. So aerobic. I just got back from the pool and my endorphins are exploding. I do a couple of laps with the kick board and fins, then with just the fins, then with buoy and then with nothing. I don't care about how fast I swim anymore it is just pure enjoyment and feels so good since I got my stomach out of my chest. Last fall I ran into serious problems when I tried to do the backstroke...hernia was pressing on lungs and I could not take a deep breath. It is important to drink fluids while you swim. I learned that the hard way.

I walked dogs 1.0 miles early and there was a nice breeze. CB even stepped up his pace a little. Came home did a little house keeping and then swam 30 min. in the indoor pool. I am so fortunate living on base. The indoor pool is 0.5 miles away....I should be riding my bike but I take so much stuff there. Not ready to haul it in this heat. Maybe I will do a short peleton ride and make it a triathlon day!!!!

I got great news yesterday! Sarah, who is like a daughter to me and lives in Aviano, Italy plans to visit for a week in September. She is the veterinarian on Aviano base. She picked a conference in San Antonio for CEU's so she could see us. I haven't seen her since 2/2020 when she came to visit and then Covid blew up, then we moved to Japan, then we moved back....Gives me more motive to walk longer or do the treadmill as Sarah loves to hike.

Nanc, are your emojis back or did you find a new source? I can see them yay! I have really missed your cheerful and funny emojis. Great job on everything diet and exercise related lately!

Donna, that's so wonderful you get a visit. Glad to hear you are feeling so well and enjoying your swimming again. Are you back on non-mushy food?

I left the office at 3:30 today. I'm just worn out and cranky. Getting ready to eat dinner and going to bed early because I need to work all weekend to catch up from the catastrophe of last weekend. Sigh...

Will hit up the grocery tomorrow and do the minimal prepping I had planned to get me through next week. And I will get to my exercise goals this weekend. So far not so much.

    @Mihani
I don't think my wonderful smileys are back...I was on my phone and used the emojis from the keyboard. Here's a smiley I used to use: yayasisters.gif

    Does it show up?

@bisky ... my swimming is so simple for now...I use the noodle for leg exercises and then for arm...I do know how to swim, but I am no lap swimmer that's for sure...at least for now.

today looks a lot like yesterday

    coffee
    waffle
    last of spaghetti
    cherries
I cooked up some Daring plain chik'n ... the afternoon is when I get a bad case of the munchies at work...going to see if some protein will help stem the tide a bit just for today...**
home for corn on the cob and then
    ninja creami

    make it delicious!

**I need another light meal for late afternoon at work. The spaghetti was perfect. So I think I will make it again for next week but add a light Mason Jar Salad for the late afternoon. Something light but with chickpeas and a light dressing. Sounds like a good idea to me!

    Positives for today...

I slept really well last night...thank you God!
    I feel great
    It's my Friday

    Negatives...well THE NEGATIVE
I can't lose a dang pound. But this weekend I am going to really try to tighten things up. Hopefully, I WILL change things up a bit. The exercise has helped my depression of late...so that really belongs in the POSITIVE CATEGORY. ^

    Good Morning!

We got up at 0630 to take the dogs out before heat sets in. Walked 1.5 miles. It was already muggy.
I have a card making workshop today. Tomorrow is a swim day after a 3 mile hike over the land bridge in San Antonio. They just opened up the bridge over a highway that connects two parks when we left SA. It will be interesting to see all the flora they were planting.

Magic - just being in the pool and moving is awesome. The water feels so good. I can see your emojis.

Mihani - I am on soft foods for another week. But I tried some roasted vegetables and they did not go down easily. A lot of pressure where my stomach is wrapped around the esophagus. I went back to soft/mushy food. Going to make soup with rest of roasted vegetables. Hope you get caught up at work this weekend.

    Sunday's Possible Menu...

Nanc, it's odd I could see the yayasisters and mountain bikes on my phone but not on my PC. I did see both emojis on your earlier post about swimming but you said those were the ones from your phone. I even tried a different browser to see if it would make a difference and nope.

Sorry to hear you are struggling with depression. It is a catch-22 for me. I know that exercise helps with depression, but it's damn hard to get motivated when depressed.

Donna, I hate muggy! I can handle heat to an extent, but that humid air is just awful. Do you have an immersion blender? I really like that for making things "sorta" blended but you can control how long you run it and get the consistency you want. Have fun at your workshop.

I'm making a pot of onion, carrot, cabbage and black eyed peas as we speak. Too much of my preps went to waste this week and I really have to get it together on planning.

I hope the plan for this week will result in less waste of food and better results on the scale. As I said, super simple! Oats, salads, cooked greens with mushrooms and onion, the leftover cabbage and black eyed peas, fruit. And of course I got broccoli to roast. That's a must-have most weeks. I think I'm obsessed!

You all were prolific with your posts while I was away. I had a lot of catching up to do!

I wish I could see those smileys again Nanc. I will have to try on my phone & see if that makes the difference. Nice job getting in the pool & walking with sweet Lulu.

Mihani, how maddening about the cyber attack. I'm glad you had the backup and are able to start making progress with work again.

And Donna!! Congrats on the weight loss and healthy habits. I am now back up to an XL but I know that feeling of having an XL be too large and getting to go down a size. The land bridge walk sounds cool.

We had a great time at my parent's summer place. They have a cabin up on the hill overlooking the ocean and we stayed in their tiny cabin right on the shore. Joe and I walked from the cabin to the docks and back every morning as soon as we woke up. It is a 3 km walk, just under 2 miles, plus we were all over the island checking things out and getting extra steps in.

This is the dock we walked to every morning and sometimes at night too.

This was our little cabin on the shore. My dad built this almost entirely by himself (someone else put the exterior shakes on, and someone helped with the roof). He had to use pulleys and whatever to get the heavy items in place. I think this was maybe 15 years ago? He is 75 now.

    vdzjo5ssadk9.jpg
Some local scenery. The whales often put on a show there. Speaking of whales, we saw one in the distance and saw (and heard) it blowing out air. We also heard one heck of a whale show one morning with tail slapping and blowing and even the squealing talking sounds they make to each other, but there was heavy fog and we couldn't see them at all.

Random metal art we came across on one of our walks. Tons of funky artsy stuff all over the island.

Love the pictures, @Carla_wfpb ...the cabin your dad built is amazing...and so cute. I would go crazy seeing the whales putting on a show. So fabulous. Living in the desert, this looks like heaven to me.

I follow High Carb Hannah on Youtube...they just moved from the desert in AZ (in the house they built...which was aaaaaaaaaaaaaamazing)...to some tropical location...they are not saying exactly where they are but lots of footage and what a change for them. Those two really have made the most of their YOUTUBE jobs.

Ok, you guys...the POOL WAS WONDERFUL...can't wait to go back tomorrow. 45 minutes walking and noodling, doing both leg and arm exercises. So happy I finally did it. I put on my bathing suit and did not look in the mirror. Just gathered my things and went.

Made a Trader Joe's run and picked up a few things...going to push for more and more veg this weekend and see if I can get something going in the losing department.

    Have a great day everyone.

I still have the bike to do later. But it is air-conditioned, so going later is ok. Gotta get in the pool early otherwise it's too hot.

    See ya!

    Awesome swim, Nanc!

My breakfast looked pretty this morning so I snapped a pic. Cantaloup filled with a blend of cashew yogurt, blueberries and a bit of banana, topped with walnuts. Yum!

Your trip looks and sounds wonderful, Carla! Beautiful pics and the whales would be amazing to see and hear. Your cantaloupe looks too pretty to eat.

Nanc, yay for a good swim. Glad it felt good. I need to check with my brother about using his pool. I got those swim shorts and totally forgot about doing that.

Got about 5 hours of work done here at home today. Quit for the evening and I'm going to have a cup of herbal tea and head to bed by 8:30 to read until I fall asleep.

I re-worked my budget yet again and if I buckle down I can have everything paid off including my mortgage within 7 years and would go into retirement with NO debt. That's a lot of motivation. I will have to tighten up my budget to do it, but it leaves plenty of money for some fun. Need to quit frittering it away though.

I'm sure that I'll want to move to a much smaller house or a condo when I retire.

rally.gifI know you can do it, @Mihani...the budget, that is. You will be so happy when the time comes and you are enjoying life without debt...and you will still be young!
NO sleep last night...well, three hours...on and off. Darn it! I feel like a zombie...zombismiley.gif

No big walk for Lulu...she's not happy and neither am I. This is when my diet usually falls apart...when I have no sleep...but I am going to make sure it doesn't... especially since it is my weekend...hopefully a nap will help right the ship.

I am going to make Lauren Toyota's Nacho Cheese sauce today, minus the oil. Might sub cashews... here is the link: https://www.hotforfoodblog.com/recipes/2015/01/22/nacho-cheese/ So, one of my meals, baked potato, broc and cheese sauce. I have made it before and my non-vegan friends loved it. Great reviews in the link I posted.

Yogurt, jam and grape nuts for another...not sure about the third...maybe a sushi bowl...I have everything...well, no edamame but I do have tofu. OR take the easy way out and have a Dr. Praeger quinoa and black bean burger.

I have one watermelon for fruit...hope it's good.

    Nothing else to report.

    Make it deeee licious...cheers!

ETA: I made the cheese sauce and added more non-dairy milk to get the right consistency since I omitted the oil. I did not use cashews. YUM is all I can say. All it is is carrots, potatoes, and seasonings...with at least 1/2 cup non-dairy milk.

    Good Morning!

Carla - Your pictures are wonderful. The cabin looks so peaceful. Seeing and hearing the whales must have been amazing. I love it. Your picture of the cantaloup looks delicious and healthy. Glad you went but happy to have you back.

Magic - good job on your triathlon day! Swimming just feels so therapeutic on the body! I swim for free on the military base. The indoor pool is 25m and the outdoor pool is 50m on Fort Sam Houston where I live. The majority of swimmers are young military people and the men & women are buffed. I at first was embarrassed walking by them to get into the pool but the benefits of the pool outweighed my embarrassment.

Mihani - Being proactive about retirement will pay off! We are blessed for getting Brooks' military retirement and finally have all bills paid off except mortgage. The trick will be to getting Brooks' to actually retire. His father was a M.D. and retired at 90 y/o. Saw his last patient at the volunteer clinic in S.C. Brooks is a bit of a work alcoholic and plans to retire at 70-72....He retires from the military in 1 and 1/2 years but wants to do 3 - 3 month locum tenens for 3 years around Maine, Vermont, North Carolina, Alaska and Washington. Locum jobs provide housing so we would just put everything in storage through the military and then keep our house rented out. Then we would travel for 3 months out of the year. IF his health (cancer) stays in remission. Health care in San Antonio is excellent for veterans unlike other states. This will give us more time to figure out where we want to finally retire to. It is important to have a plan for retirement. My father gave me that lecture after I graduated from college to start saving. Glad he did.

I did too much yesterday. We went on the hike on the land bridge 3.5 miles. Brooks had to carry CB the last 0.5 miles. Next time I am taking a stroller for him. It was getting hot by the time we finished. Then we swam laps (20 min for me) but first time outside. I didn't want to get sunburned. It was 98* by the time we swam and the water felt great. I went to a new yoga class late afternoon and had a weird reaction...got sweaty, nauseous and dizzy...thought I was going to lose it. It was not a hard class but I think I was dehydrated and the up & down got to me. The room was warm despite a.c. and fans. It was not a hot yoga class.

Off to get yearly labs drawn. Keep fingers crossed my cholesterol and LDL will be down.

Mihani, sounds like you will be in great shape for retirement if you keep your goals to the forefront. I'm assuming when you downsize you will stay in the same general area you are now to be close to family? It would be nice to pick a spot walking distance to trails or a park or something like that. Maybe even a place with a pool! I saw some really cute neighborhoods while we were out your way.

Ugh, Nanc, sorry about your sleep. It is really hard to have a great day when you are fighting lack of sleep the whole way through. We're having a taco salad tonight with a chipotle queso so we will be sisters-in-cheeziness today!

Donna, it probably was dehydration that got to you during yoga. (it is hot yoga once you are all hot and sweaty ;) ) Joe tried hot yoga with me but almost every time he went, even going in very hydrated, he would get claw hands. And when it happens they don't want you to leave the room, but when you are hot and cramped all you want to do is get out of there!

We are still on vacation so this week we are trying to get a bunch of things done. I need to update my social security info and apply for my U.S. passport (got my citizenship at the end of May). We somehow lost the title to one of our vehicles so we need to figure out how to get that replaced and then we will be selling that car.

Now that we had our vacation reset with plenty of walking and doing, we're trying not to fall back into old patterns. Yesterday we went to the marina that's 10 minutes from our place and had a bite to eat and went for a walk. Today we're running errands and tomorrow we have a few errands plus a meal out with my father and mother in law.

Oh bummer... sorry about the bad sleep, Nanc. Hope you got a nap. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I bookmarked it to try. I have had a couple really good watermelons so far this summer. One dud.

Donna, thanks for the encouragement. I am pretty jazzed about this and very motivated to stick to the budget! It shouldn't be difficult as long as I stay away from amazon.

That's too bad you had that reaction in the yoga class. I sometimes get dizzy when getting up and down a lot so I try to do all my floor exercises at one time rather than jumping up and down from the floor. Fingers crossed for your labs!

Poor CB... a stroller sounds like a great idea.

Carla, yeah I will probably stay pretty close to where I am now. One brother is about 10 minutes away and the other 15. It's really convenient and nice to have family nearby, and probably more important as we all get older.

The marina looks very pretty! Nice it's so close to your place. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Didn't get home from the office until almost 6:30 but made myself do some cooking. Pot of farro and big batch of onion, mushrooms and greens. Just kale, baby spinach and arugula. I had bought mustard greens but when I opened the fridge I was like phew... what stinks? It was the mustard greens and I hustled them into the trash. Kind of irritating since I just bought them Saturday. Note to self... cook mustard greens immediately in future. LOL

I have a hair appointment tomorrow and will stop at the small market on the way home from there. They have the best greens and veggies and they are usually much fresher than the big grocery store where I shopped Saturday. I will need to cook again probably Thursday.

Had an excellent day sticking to the plan. Finally!

If Monday is about connecting to the primal self, Tuesday is about having the courage to master it."

Carla - yay you are keeping the vacation and walks going. There is something so good about a walk, being outside and focusing on the beauty around us. You would have loved Maine and the Botanic garden. So pretty. Plus all the walks on the coast.

Mihai - I admire people who can just throw things together to cook. I can do it with a salad but have to follow recipes when cooking or else it does not seem to turn out.

Magic - I hope you sleep better tonight. Do you have bedtime rituals to help you relax at night? I sometimes have a hard time turning my brain off.

Walked dogs at 0730 today....it was the tinest bit cool when we started out but by 0830 sun was out and glad we got out walk in early. Stripped beds, changed duvet...that is a workout now with this kind bed. Went to swim...525 meters in 30 min. So slow but aerobic. Now my back is hurting a bit but rather afraid to try yoga again.

Spilled 1/2 a new container of blueberries when I opened the refrigerator door (Brooks piles things on top of stuff and he put groceries away last night)...CB and Cleo came running out of nowhere to grab them. My back was hurting and I let them gobble them up.

Excellent work getting your walk in and heading to the pool despite being tired, Nanc.

Bisky, I bet the dogs enjoyed those blueberries! LOL

    Hope your back feels better.

Stuck with the plan again today except I met up with some friends. Had one cocktail then drank water and came on home. Didn't order food and ate some leftover farro and greens when I got here. And I got the treadmill in this morning. Think my 100% July might finally be getting there.

Got up way too early this morning. I'll head to the office extra early and maybe get out a little early. I want to do a grocery run tonight since I have plans after work tomorrow and want to prep/cook Saturday.

I'm finally going to get around to trying this recipe for baked beans: https://shaneandsimple.com/best-vegan-baked-beans/ I haven't been able to find navy beans at the grocery so I ordered from amazon and should be arriving today.

Morning all...absent yesterday since it was the same ol story ...another sleepless night. I have never been a great sleeper...and I am quite good with 5-6 hours ...but I am nowhere near that mark these days. It will pass...I just have to ride it out. @bisky I do wind down for bedtime...and nothing is really on my mind...I usually fall asleep ok...I just wake up and then I am UP!

    back to work day...

    Iced coffee

raw organic oats with frozen mixed berries and soy milk
    plums
    salad with chickpeas
    Crunchmaster crackers and Bitchin sauce
    Ninja creami

Too difficult to have steam broc at work...unless I make it here and have it cold...I have time to figure this out...I do know that broc is one of the keys to weight loss...and I am not that crazy about it...
but three months from today I will be 75 and I would love to not have these extra 15 pounds joining me for the celebration! (I really need to lose 25...I have gained 20 pounds since moving to AZ in 2011...yuck...I was 135 when I moved here...and was 5 pounds overweight then. -sigh-)consoling2.gif

ETA Part 2: In 2003 I weighed 240 and got down to 135...never made it to my goal of 130. But now, I am going to use my 75th birthday as inspiration to get back down...and broccoli is going to help me get there!
