@CasandraW I’m so sorry for both you and your children’s loss. Christmas makes it especially difficult.
I had a very nice New Year’s Eve. It’s my husband’s birthday and it was also his dad’s. His father passed away in January 2019. This is the first year it wasn’t brutally painful. We still missed him, but even my husband was in good spirits.
I’d like to join the step challenge for January. My goal is 10,000 and I like to run on our town bike path when it’s not icy.
It might be a bit up and down as I’m tapering for a marathon on the 14th and then recovering afterwards, so less steps, but at least I’ll have one big day, hopefully!!!
Steps for 12/31. 16,942
Have a great New Year!

I'd like to join the step challenge for the month. My goal is 10,000 steps/day. I generally go for a walk with my boys down to the park for my most of my steps. I also run on the treadmill at the gym. Neither are particularly my favorite, but that's what's available at the moment.

@jessicakrall8, no, I'm gonna have to step away from the step challenge until March after knee surgery and I'm healed. 10 days and a wake up.

@looneycatblue (Remind me your first name so I can fill it in on the chart)...tracking for Jan starts today...so no worries on your computer time! I'm addicted to that stupid Monopoly Go game...I get it...SMH!

Happy New Year Everyone!
My Name is Jen and I live in a small town in Southern Alberta Canada. I think I want to change my fitness goals and try something new this year. I was walking to work and it worked great, but with the colder weather and icy conditions, I think it best to find an "indoor" fitness program lol I was thinking of a dance exercise type one, something fun with good music, to keep me motivated and engaged.
I would like to sign up for the January Step Challenge, my goal is 10,000 steps per day. I will prob walk on the treadmill this winter till it's nicer and safer to walk outside on the paths again. Thank you

Hello Shape Shifters, and welcome to all the new and returning members! I’m Patrice, a 57 year old woman from the USA. I’ve been living in the Washington, DC area with my husband for almost 30 years and we raised our two sons here. They are visiting now, but they’ll be returning to their college classes next weekend. My husband and I grew up in Boston, and spend time there - about every month or two - supporting aging relatives (my mother, great aunt, father-law, etc.).
In 2019, the longtime Executive Director of the private nonprofit where I worked retired. The professional organization serves state leaders responsible for implementing health and education laws. When he retired, the new Executive Director and Board Members decided to reorganize and they only kept the Executive Director and one assistant on staff full time. My position was grant-based and the organization decided not to pursue the U.S. Department of Education funding that paid my salary and benefits. Some of the states I was working with still needed support so I established my own business and they contracted with me directly.
There’s been a lot to learn but my work is rewarding because I can see positive results for the children and families we serve in those states. I still do a little bit of contract work for the organization where I worked for about 20 years, but they no longer have a brick-and-mortar building so most of the work is virtual. The national office is about 1.5 miles from my house so it was convenient while raising my children and volunteering in my local community. Now, I continue to promote the work we did to ensure state decision makers engage practitioners - and the intended beneficiaries of their health and education programs - in finding solutions to the complex problems they face.
So, I’m experiencing many life transitions that consume much of my free time — aging family members, a new business, and trying to declutter/ downsize the ‘empty nest’ when my sons are back at school. On the health and fitness side of my personal journey, I’m up and down. I met my goal of 125-130 and then regained some weight once I started focusing more on other areas, like business development and downsizing.
I feel most energetic when I’m in the 125-130 pound range, which is the mid-point of a healthy BMI for my height (just under 5’4” or about 164cm). Right now, I have about 15 pounds to lose. So, my goal is to reach my target weight of 125 by the end of July 2024 and stay within the 125-130 range once I get there. Best wishes everyone!

Sorry for the ridiculously long introduction!2

@CassandraW —I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. It’s so difficult to see our children suffer, and it must be especially difficult to deal with the complexity of emotions you’re likely feeling.
I’m sure your children are gaining strength and learning resilience with you as a role model. Congratulations on establishing a new foundation for your family after dealing with your own trauma. Grief takes time but your children will always remember how you helped them cope during this year. Wishing you and your family brighter days in 2024. ❤️🩹3 -
*waves* Hello new members!
I'm on support mode for awhile, taking a break.
I live near a ship wreck in a cloudy rainy coast line in Oregon. I like to ride my bicycle and drink coffee but have a few health issues.
Cheers!

Hi team shapeshifters!
Could 2 different scales give me different results?
When I joined, I had just weighed myself using a digital scale at the pharmacy. Then a day or two later I tried the digital scale at home, and it got me 4 lbs heavier 😳 worst part is, when I moved the scale from one spot to another, there was like a whole pound difference lol
Is this common with digital scales? It’s a fairly new scale.

I use a digital scale. I had that happen to me too. I found an even area in my office. That is where the scales stay. I also weigh myself at the same time everyday with no clothes on. First thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. Best way to get your best weight. That is what my doctor said to do.4 -
@tatilove1988 It is very common that different scales give different weight readings. It is best to just use the same one when possible. making sure the scale is on a flat and hard surface is also very important. I can only weigh in my bathroom. If I put it in the bedroom that has a softer floor, it gives me a different reading. While the gain is annoying, I would just go with your scale at home since that is the one you have most access to. We can update your starting weight so you won't immediately start off with a gain. Just let us know the new number and then weigh in again on Saturday.4

Hi, thanks so much for your answer 😃. The new number is 192.4 instead of 188. It’s really odd that it’s such a big difference.
I’m wondering if I should switch to a mechanical scale. Or at the very least, get a better digital one. I hate the thought that I might be getting the wrong reading depending on where I am.
Anyway, thanks again! Happy new year 🥳

Hi there!
I also try to weigh myself in the morning, as the fluctuation between morning and evening can be insane.

I've been working hard, so I'm glad to see it reflected on the scale. I've started logging my food again and going to run. I've been having 1 beer at night just to get through what we have in the fridge, but other than that, ive had a couple days that were as close to perfect as I am going to be.

@tatilove1988 i second everyone about being consistent in how you weigh. I split my time between two places and the scales are about 1 pound difference. 4 pounds is a big difference, but you’re looking at the trend overall.
