Hi everyone. I’m Jackie,60 yrs old and live in Ontario, Canada with my husband of 34 yrs. We have a daughter (29), a son (27), and our first grandbaby is 3 mths old
DISCUSSION QUESTION: How has my weight affected my health?
I wasn’t always overweight. I was very active, athletic and a healthy weight up until half way through my first pregnancy at age 30. I gained 70 lbs (mostly at the end) and stayed there. I didn’t even lose the 7 lbs that my daughter was. I still worked out, played sports and ate healthy but couldn’t get my weight to budge. When I got my first Fitbit at 51 I discovered I was only sleeping 2-4 hrs per night and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea which I would guess started as I gained weight during my pregnancy. After 2 decades of sleep deprivation and obesity the health issues piled up started with a major artery blockage at age 43. Since then I’ve had several stents and am currently dealing with another blockage, Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia, diabetes, psoriasis, arthritis, sleep apnea, chronic inflammation and diminished lung capacity. All of these ailments list Obesity as one of the causes.
And on a brighter note here’s my
HUMONGOUS DATE STORY: The first time my husband cooked for me was in his small bachelor apartment. He made Bbq steak with Mac and cheese. His kitchen sink was overflowing with dirty dishes so he lifted the toilet seat and set the colander on the rim of the toilet to drain the pasta. My SIL included that story in the speech she gave at our wedding and needless to say, in our 34 years of marriage I’m the one who does the cooking.

Good morning,
@19shmoo69 We are chillin' like a villain here in Goliad State Park (really we are sweatin' our butts off thank God for a RV with AC)🤣. Under a heat advisory😅 It will be 95 today but will feel like 109 and humid. But all is good.
@AmbersWay No worries, take care of yourself.
@Veta2018 Thank you, What a busy day. I like the walking pad. I have a treadmill in my workout room collecting dust at the moment. I will be getting some use this summer when Tx visits hell🥵
@Katmary71 I am sorry you are having a hard time with your roommate. Maybe having a sit down talk at home would be a thought to see where to go from this point.
@laurelfit57 Take advantage of that time with your grandchildren, cause you are right about not being so cool when they get older. I fell off the wagon Sunday going out for Chinese. But I have a sensible meal plan for our trip so I hope to be good this week.
@DrewsAnna It is really nice to see you back. I have a few walk at home DVDs that I use off and on. I like her. Starting the ab challenge when I get back.
@TeresaW2024 Love the pic of Joe and Maggie.
@trooworld Hang in there. My DIL had the surgery and is doing really well with it. She is happy to have done it. You Have my support. YOU GOT THIS!
@Jactop I was 42 when I had my stent put in. I was told it was either hereditary or my smoking that caused my heart attack. So I quit smoking and the weight piled on. Your dinner story is too funny🤣
How does your weight affect your health?
For me it is more mental than physical. Mentally I am depressed, I do not like what I see in the mirror. I wear baggie shirts to cover my stomach cause I feel like I am several months pregnant. I don't wear tank tops because of my bye-bye arms. Physically my knees hurt from time to time, my feet have times where they want to let me know they are tired of carrying me around, my back hurts all the time and my body gets stiff if I sit too long, so I am getting up and moving alot.
This month I am making this happen. Have a great day folks🤠

@Katmary71 - No kidding, even week 3 looks like a challenge. (120 crunches) Sorry to hear your struggles with your roommate. Its sometimes difficult living with someone. Hopefully everything will workout.
@laurelfit57 - I planted cherry and celebrity tomatoes. I have volunteer tomato plants coming up all over my garden. I transplanted them into small pots to give away. I'm just waiting for them to have some flowers on them first. I had to do the same with my strawberries for they flooded over the 9x9 raised bed I have them in.
@DrewsAnna - I do walk at home with Leslie Sansone too.
@TeresaW2024 - Thank you. Great picture of Joe and Maggie. I like the way both their heads are tilled while they look at you.
@trooworld - I just got it, so I only used it a couple time. I'm a little nervous of falling since there is no handle and It feels funny when I step off of it. I think I'll get used to it though. I use Tajin on my fruit too. I hope your visit with the dietician goes well.
@Jactop - The Bbq steak with Mac and cheese sounded good til you mentioned the toilet...lol.
@txcritter69 - I believe in you. You can make it happen!
DISCUSSION QUESTION: How does your weight affect your health?
At my current weight I feel an improvement in my strength and energy. I can breath easier when I do cardio and run. It's easier to move around because I'm more flexible, have better balance, coordination, reflexes, strength, and endurance. Which makes me feel more motivated and active. I'm more driven to accomplish new things. It took a lot of mental strength and discipline to get here. I still have all this knowledge and discipline and I want to keep using it. I want to challenge myself to keep improving. I'm more confident. Sometimes, I still can't believe I actually did it.💪Mission Slimpossibles - June Strong!💪4 -
DISCUSSION QUESTION: How does your weight affect your health?
I am at a healthy weight. And coincidentally, I am healthy! The biggest influence my weight had on my health was my energy level. Carrying around a lot of extra weight really tires you out.
-Mica7 -
@TeresaW2024 - Love the picture of Joe and Maggie!3
-
Hmmmm, how does my weight affect my health?
It would depend on the definition of health.
I've never been much of an athlete and I was always the big kid/person. So as far as body mechanics I wouldn't know how to compare. I know as I consistently workout I can do more for longer. But us that health or ability due to muscle memory? Granted I have had a couple recent health scares. Neither time did any test reveal any health issues.6 -
@Veta2018 That's what I want to get, one of those walking pads aka small treadmill. I live in Florida and the weather is awful most of the time, hot, humid, rainy, bugs, yuck. Hurricane season has started too. So, I won't be able to walk outside as much lately. Unfortunately, I'm still too big for a walking pad, you have to be 300 or fewer pounds for the one I want to get. It's kind of ironic, I have to lose weight to use a machine to lose weight. Lol.5

Checking in early today, the rest of my day is going to be busy.
@DrewsAnna I hope you enjoyed the new watch, I know I find mine motivating although it is a pain in the butt at times.
@TeresaW2024 it sounds like you are kicking off this week right! That is the cutest picture of Joe and Maggie Mae♥️.
@trooworld looking on YouTube, who knew dogs could have so many allergies and stuff! That's exciting that you are going for your final visit with the dietitian. How long after this does it take before you can have surgery?
@txcritter69 that's funny that we both fell off the waggon with Chinese food on Sunday. Good for you that you have a meal plan already figured out for your trip
Veta2018 it sounds like you have an amazing green thumb! I always have my fingers crossed that I can keep half of my plants alive to the end of the season.
Started out the morning playing some agility with my dogs. We came home and I was attempting to get all of my tomato plants planted. Ty was so helpful, I was only able to plant half of them. On track with food today, did not do the gym again today but did agility with the dogs this morning and I'm going to do agility with Vannie later on this afternoon, I figured that's a good enough work out lol. I have my supper planned, after agility I am heating up of the hamburgers that I got the recipe from @trooworld🥰.
Vannie was exhausted from agility this morning, Ty couldn't wait to help plant the tomato plants

It was pouring down rain early this morning. Now it is sunny. Isn't that how life is? It seems when the storms of life roll in then we forget that the sunshine is soon to be coming.5

WEIGH-IN UPDATE
WEIGH-INS DUE NOW: @megnolia82 @littlebabekitty @vegan4lyfe2012 @AyaTheTyga @rjv230 @reshii_devi @FushiaKat
Reminder for tomorrow's weigh-in: @DrewsAnna3 -
@Laurelfit57 I think you'll always be cool! Of course you can make modifications, I'm doing the same as I can't plank and do full sit-ups. Haha I told a practitioner today I worry about everyone because no one's happy and worried and I want everyone to get along. It IS a lot plus my roommate's at work and the farm so I'm tense all day which sucks. I just had a treatment and am headed to the tub soon, I'll definitely do deep breathing then thanks! Which tomatoes did you go with? I think going to people's houses getting them is more fun than going to a nursery (it's easier for me too since no standing in line ). Chinese food is real hard to moderate! You'll love the burgers! Haha looks like Ty wants to harvest tomatoes for you!
@DrewsAnna it IS hard to read, the person who found it posted it and I couldn't see the photo I'd taken of it either. Haha good reason to go with the photo where you can't see half of it for challenges! I have modified the full sit-ups and planks. You sound like you're doing great being back on track!
@TeresaW2024 It's frustrating how much one day can throw us off. I think you can beat Shaun T don't let him push you around! I love the photo of Joe and Maggie Mae, it's a beautiful picture.
@trooworld Haha it's hard to live with people even when you love them. Hugs I know that weigh-in must've hurt I'm sorry. I hope the dietitian isn't a jerk. Thank you for posting the question I completely forgot again geez! How can we support you? I hope you realize you're an incredibly outwardly and inwardly beautiful woman though I understand wanting to feel that way about yourself too.
HOW DOES YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT YOUR HEALTH? It doesn't in a major way but my blood sugar isn't as low as I'd like and I'm self-conscious.
@Jactop Oh no I didn't realize all the health issues you're dealing with right now I'm so sorry. LOL that colander story is priceless!
@txcritter69 What you wrote about your weight is similar to how I feel too you described it perfectly. Love your month saying!
@Veta2018 Thanks! I love reading your positive weight post that's wonderful!
@micaroo4 That exhaustion at my highest was the worst I agree.
@19shmoo69 That's true life can take a turn pretty fast.
Hi team, just got home from having a treatment and am supposed to be watching a Zoom but can't get in. What's new right? Not much else going on, roommate and I haven't talked. Planning on watering then a bath. Have a great night and awesome Wednesday! Week is FLYING!3 -
Daily Post ~ Wednesday
Track ~ Yes- Day 28
Calories ~ over
Exercise ~ 60 minutes of Zumba and 10 minutes sauna3 -
@lislisa123 - I did not know about Joey and "How you doing?" I looked it up, and laughed!
@AmbersWay - Hurray for staying close to steady1 I hope the dust settles soon!
@gemwolf110 - What a good day!
@Veta2018 - I had to laugh about the elliptical that you called a coatrack. Your puppy looks pleased. Perhaps watching you is fun.
@Katmary71 - SO sorry about the roommate not acting like a grownup. Ugh. Good for you for making sure he's out if he's a nut. Or can't pay his share.
@laurelfit57 - Austin is not unbearably hot, but tomato blossoms don't set fruit once the temps are going over about 90F. So we need to start them indoors and plant them at the very start of March.
Hurray for your tomato plants and for being on track with your food!
@DrewsAnna - I am just now catching up with today's messages. Crazy day. I'd be happy to start checking in tomorrow if you like.
I have a Garmin. I hope you like yours!
I am also doing IF. I am starting food at noon and ending at or around 8 PM. So the morning coffee or tea is critical for me, too.
@TeresaW2024 - That is a great picture of Joe. What a treasure. And Maggie Mae looks adorable.
Here's to digging deep this week!
Oh and black pepper on cantaloupe -- I will try that!
@trooworld - Thanks for the Fonz moment. (Have you seen The Martian? The Fonz gets a nod.)
How Does Your Weigt Affect Your Health?
What a great question.
It affects my socializing. I don't have so much fun with clothes. There are activities I am reluctant to do because I look bad or don't feel good doing them.
I don't like to do regular physicals (shame, and a feeling all will be blamed on weight).
For me, also fear. I worry about what is going on. Morbid maybe, but a thing for me.
@Jactop - Your date story is hilarious. Wow! Humongous is right!

Quick check-in on my day
- I kept food to my losing weight calorie goal.
- I made good food choices. No salad for dinner, but I grabbed a smoothie at a place that has one that is veggies and protein powder, no bananas or sugar.
- I got in two movement sessions: 1 long morning walk and a midday bike ride. The bike weas a big jolt of fun. I'll do that again tomorrow. And a morning walk, too!
Feeling better about goals and life today!4 -
Hey teamies ~ apologies for being more MIA then usual. This new schedule has me completely outta wack (I don't handle change as well as I did in my youth!) These new hours are exhausting. I'm so behind in everything, catching up feels quite overwhelming. Haven't been able to swim or gotten nearly enough movement, but NO ZERO DAYS and I've managed to actually log everything. Even the bad stuff! Hoping to get a better handle on things by the end of the week ... and that you're all doing better than me, lol
Weigh In Day: Monday
SW (Starting Weight): 198.2
PW (Previous Weight): 194.7
CW (Current Weight): 196.8
I'm so tired of gaining and relosing the same five pounds. I've done it twice since April! Fortunately, I've still lost a few inches so not feeling totally defeated but uuugggghhhhhhhhhhhh June has got to be better.
DISCUSSION QUESTION: How does your weight affect your health?
@ my highest weight of 280 I was depressed and pre-diabetic. Losing almost 90 pounds has not only reversed it, but I'm beginning to feel more vibrant and youthful again. Realizing how many diseases correspond to obesity has become all the self-motivation I need.5 -
@Veta2018 I love her, I have a hard time keeping up with the new generation of walk leaders, but I won't give up, Lol... it will happen.
@laurelfit57 I love your fur babes.
@AustinRuadhain Tomorrow is fine, I restarted today. Lol... I'm always trying to shift my body clock. Last year I was sleeping until 10:00-10:30 am, now I'm getting up about 9:00-9:30 am. My goal is 8:00-8:30.... I'll get there.
I had a good day today. I did day 4 of the Walk @ Home monthly plan. I had to modify it from 1 hour to 30 min. Physically, I am not ready for 1 hour. Lol... I will get there. I made good food choices today and I'm hoping for a good weigh in tomorrow. My new watch should arrive on Friday. I'm beyond excited to have something dependable. All of my exercise information is incorrect. Grrr.... I restarted the ab challenge today, and I found out I can't do one sit up. So, I did extra crunches. I'll keep trying, I'll get there.
Tomorrow, the weather is going to start getting into the 70's for at least a week, so I'm going to be outside a lot. My walk at home plan might turn into "walk outside" lol....
Y'all have a good evening, TTYL... 👱🏻♀️

@TeresaW2024 - love your pic- both your dear ones are looking good!
@laurelfit57 - I LOVE the pictures you take of your dogs. Your two are quite the characters.
@Jactop - you win the prize for the date story! Ugh!
Lisa2 -
@trooworld We do have Tajin. I will have to try it! I hope all goes well with the dietician. What are the next steps after this visit? Don’t let that number on the scale derail you. You know that after that dinner and weighing in your PJs it wasn’t an accurate weight. That is a good question. I’m glad you are making us think.
@Jactop Your discussion question answer shows how much obesity can damage every area of our lives. What a cute story about you and your husband. Never heard of someone draining pasta water in the toilet before.
Good morning! Today, I plan to work out (leg day! ), go to the office, and make an Aldi trip. I will buy some salmon for dinner and have it with mushroom risotto and air fryer red potatoes. My sister is driving four hours (which is halfway) to pick up her 14-year-old granddaughter and visit for a couple of weeks. We are all excited to see her!
Question: How does your weight affect your health? So many good answers to this hard question.
I remember talking about my weight with my mother when I was 12 years old. It’s been a lifelong battle that I’ve lost time and time again. Many of you know that a couple of years ago I had reached the 80 lb loss with only 10 lbs to go before I reached goal. I had never looked and felt so good. Gaining the weight back brings all the self-loathing, frustrations, and sugar addictions. Obesity hurts my feet, knees, and back. I can’t fit into my closet full of clothes. Going back to 2X tops after being on the edge of wearing medium sizes is heartbreaking. But I will NEVER give up! I want that feeling back, and by God, I will get it!!

@Jactop That's a lot to deal with and a lot of reasons to get as healthy as possible by achieving a healthy weight. OMG!!! That's hilarious and I don't blame you for doing the cooking!!!
@txcritter69 Wow, that's hot! Thank you, I appreciate your support and it's good to hear a good story about WLS, most people that have commented in my real life only say anything when they can say someone had surgery and had complications or gained weight back. I feel you on the baggy shirts front. I've been having probs lately with shirts riding up in the front and my stomach showing, I absolutely hate it. You got this, too!
@Veta2018 Ah yes, I got one with a collapsable handle because I am so clumbsy, I would probably fall off lol. I hope you don't! Tajin is yummy, huh? Walmart accidentally gave me an extra Tajin that is the "Sweet and Spicy" version. I don't know how it differs from the regular version as I haven't opened it yet but it may be good on something. Thanks.
@laurelfit57 Right? Well, it takes 6 weeks for the insurance to approve and then another 4-5 months wait for surgery. So...I'm looking at either November or December. Either way, I'm going to have to skip either Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner or just Christmas dinner. Not the worst thing but an adjustment! Ty! Let your mommy plant her tomatoes! LOL That's hilarious. Probably not at the time though lol.
@19shmoo69 How insightful. Thank you for that!
@Katmary71 True! Yes, it did hurt...a lot. The dietician was actually very kind and supportive and I really needed it. No problem! I think you guys are already doing a great job of supporting me but thanks for asking. Awww, thank you. The week is flying by!
@AustinRuadhain I have not seen the Martian! But that's cool the Fonz gets a nod, he deserves it! LOL Sounds like you had a great day yesterday, woo hoo!
@reshii_devi That's great you've been logging. No zero days!
@TeresaW2024 Thank you! After yesterday's visit, they have to send paperwork to insurance for them to approve, which takes about 6 weeks. And then, there is a 4-5 month wait for surgery, which should take place sometime around the holidays! Thank you. Dinner sounds yummy. How nice to see your sister's granddaughter! I'm so sorry you are going through this but you are on your way back to goal. You got this! Hang in there!
Hi all. The dietician visit went well. I should have surgery around the holidays, this year! I can't believe it will be this year. I was thinking it would be next summer. My husband gave me "a talk" about how I need to make changes before surgery or I won't keep the weight off. Like, duh? Why didn't I think of that? :P I was mad but tried to keep it to myself. He acts like I don't think things through. I told him I am making small, sustainable changes like going to the cafe at work less and walking more and drinking more water.
