“ Many of us weigh the finished dish, and put the total number of grams as the number of servings.
Example: Say I make a stew, and the whole pot of fully-cooked stew (minus the pan) weighs 2357 grams. I put 2357 in the number of servings. MFP gives me a message that's some kind of "that's a big number do you mean it" (not that exact text, because I don't remember the exact text). But if I say I want to continue, it accepts the 2357 servings.
Later, maybe I eat 253 grams of the stew. I log 253 servings.
Some people weigh the pans/dishes they use most often to cook recipes, and put the list of weights on the inside of a cupboard door or something like that. That makes it easy to weigh the whole finished pot/dish of food, and subtract the weight of the container to get the number of servings.
This process works fine, for me. YMMV”
I’m going to be trying this going forward.
That's very ingenious! So if I understand correctly, you still have to enter the recipe into the recipe builder but instead of entering 4 servings then trying to scoop out 1/4 of the pot of stew (could be source of error), cook the recipe then weigh it minus the pot, go back into recipe builder and adjust the servings to the weight, ie 2357 if thinking in grams. this way you can eat whatever amount, as long as you weigh it and have previously entered the recipe.
My kitchen scale is tiny, but I have my body scale! My husband will think I'm nuts standing on it with our dinner but I think it's worth a try! Thanks for sharing this!4 -

@p8m6bwghh9 I have found that AnnPT77 is a wealth of useful information. I never fail to learn something from her posts.4 -
@LaurieWrobo I hope you were able to enjoy the wedding even with the altitude struggles.5

Hello Shape Shifters. Yesterday morning I went for a walk on my own. My mom needed to give her back a rest and she didn't want to risk being in pain again. I didn't mind going alone since I could walk a bit earlier and it was nice and chilly outside. When I left, my mom was still in bed. I ended up walking for around 80 minutes. My mom got picked up again around 12:30. I did laundry and just relaxed the rest of the day. Happy Monday everyone7

@p8m6bwghh9 wow is that picture the Northern Lights? Do you have to be outside a city in order to see them (meaning no light pollution). I hope to visit in July, maybe next year. Just need to figure out where I won't be running into grizzly bears.
I'm starting a new habit of weighing myself on Tuesdays in addition to my team weigh in day, Sat. This is because I get caught up in the week and for real, selectively forget to restrict calories. So I am getting on the scale this morning, so that I increase my awareness and cut back on my food volume.4 -

Feeling bummed - it is a rainy day in Chicagoland. I was looking forward to a lunch time walk (I didn't check the weather ). It's going to be rainy until around 6 pm.4

Same in WI- rainy and windy - I was hoping to go for a walk, but going to go to my yoga studio for a restore class - still feeling remnants from the altitude sickness 😞5 -

In addition to being sick, there was really nowhere to walk around the property at the house we had rented in CO - there were pretty sharp dropoffs after the treeline by the house and the road was all stone/gravel, not paved and very narrow5 -

It's drizzly in Maryland too, supposed to rain every day for the next week.4 -
@globalhiker yes, northern lights. Light pollution does affect seeing them but that also applies to a full moon reflecting off of snow. There are definitely lots of hiking options and being on the lookout for wildlife is always good, bear spray is your friend. There are brown and black bears in the region but I have only seen moose in the yard.
Hope the weighing strategy helps.4 -

I'm curious when I joined the group. Is there an easy way to check?0

Hello Shape Shifters. Monday was a lazy day for me. I didn't feel like working out or walking, so I just hit my step goal. I also got some groceries delivered so I had two planned high food days. It was not enjoyable at all and I haven't slept well because of how full I was feeling. Today it is back to 'normal' for sure. I have been playing a really cute horse game which makes my brain very happy. It is so relaxing and I love it.
Yesterday I did go for a walk again - my rule is to never skip a workout/walk two days in a row - and I had a pretty good time. It was still too sunny for me, but today the fall weather has finally kicked in so I am happy. I do think I will drop my step goal to 12k for October and winter in general because it is going to be harder to walk due to the weather and home workouts are a lot more difficult to do for long so less steps.
I have been looking around the challenges on the MFP community area and I would like to start joining the 100 day weigh in ones. The next one begins Oct 27 which is perfect since I am still not ready to step on the scale, but next month should be fine. I made a new weight & habit tracker for it as well since I love tracking! I think I will be solely using the 100 day one from that point since it really has it all in one spot. I will share a link if you would like to see if it is something for you as well.In the top left corner go to File -> Make a copy, give it a name and save it. Then you can edit it however you like.I got some extra money this month which was nice. I had to get new treats for Tinus, new vitamins which I got yesterday and I found fairly cheap pink snowboots for the winter. Since I want to start postcrossing again, I also got some new postcards. I want to be a bit careful with my money though, since I am not sure what the new fence will cost that my neighbour is picking out. I don't think there is anything else I need so I should be able to sit on the rest of my money until the next payment. Happy Wednesday everyone

Another dreary drizzly day on tap here in Southern Maryland
D46/75 still plugging along. This weekend will be a test as I'm traveling to VA on Friday in order to participate in the HP Firebolt 5K on Saturday morning. Then driving to our house on Saturday afternoon to drop off a bathroom vanity we got at Lowe's in MD. Then driving back to MD on Sunday. So even though I'm doing a 5k on Saturday the 10 hours spent driving those 3 days will far outweigh the 45 or so minutes of exercise.5 -

Nor many steps - in Alma CO for my son's wedding at 10,700 feet for altitude and I ended up having altitude sickness for the whole time - finally feeling better today, but we leave tomorrow driving 16 hours home so no steps really
Oh no!! I'm so sorry to hear about the altitude sickness. You were looking forward to this for so long. I hope you were able to enjoy some of the time without being too sick.3
