What is your focus today?

Wooop, Jenny! Happy FLYing Weekend ๐๐ ! We don't leave for our mini-getaway spa weekend until tomorrow afternoon, so I'll be here until then.
Got my first Conqueror Virtual Postcard heh so excited. Heading in to the kitchen to break my fast (woop!) Gym later. History Challenge, 2000 yrs ago, Caesars & Emperors, Day #1 ~
1 -
That's so cool! I haven't broken my fast yet (I had 2 bites of brisket to see if they were tender enough yet, but they aren't, so back in the oven they go! I love the "slow cooker" Option on my new stove!)
1 -
Sounds delicious!! Breaking my fast right now ๐. Avo (1/2 avocado, 1/2 tbsp olive oil, 1/2 tbsp lemon juice) on Dave's Killer, top with olive-oil fried diced tomatoes (1/2 c) and an egg, with greens (baby spinach), chopped pitted dates (2), walnuts (1 srvg), and coconut vinegar (drizzle, ~ 1 tbsp), on the side. Yummmmmmmmmm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That looks yummy! I've still not "fully" broken my fast (I've had a cheese stick, and a few bites of brisket). I can't believe it's already 3:30!!!! Time flies when you get up at 9:30 instead of 6! I had a migraine at 6, so I took meds and went back to bed. I did get a new Ninja blender/food processor/mini blender at Costco. It was needed for a WHILE, so I'm excited to try a few things today!
1 -
Cool on the Ninja! Have you been fasting too, Jen? I thought you meant breakfast when you posted earlier? Sorry if I was too wrapped up in being wired/not sleeping from my fast, that I didn't realize you were also fasting ๐ฌ )
((( hugs! ))) sorry, to hear about the migraine1 -
I generally try to fast from dinner to lunch or longer. I will be working on 23:1 daily fasts soon. I try to eat when hungry and not worry about how long they last. Today has been a bit of a struggle. I had a drink or two (literally) last night and woke up feeling gross, and it's just lingered all day. Apathetic to food as well isn't helping!1
-
Ahhh, I getcha !0
-
I ended up getting my walk in. I've been tracking my calories this week and I've done ok, but today I took a nose dive... 816 calories. LOL Found a copy of Atomic Habits today, listened to it last year, so I'm going to read through it this year. I tried a new recipe, it was a fail I think. LOL1
-
Great job! I went to the gym ... after waiting over 2 hrs for my Fitbit to charge, and it was closed. ๐ซ Brain processing error, hehe. I *did* check the hours earlier in the week, but my brain morphed 7p close into 9p close. Poop.
Today I went all the way up to 1,268 calories. lol
I bought that book last summer! Didn't read it yet, tho. Maybe I'll read it with you. I have a Book Club (IRL) book for Friday, tho. Plus the Harry Potter book, so maybe I'll lag behind you.
1 -
Been busy-ish today! Got towels going, the island cleaned off, Scott's off to Lowe's to get better screws for the floating shelves. Dw is unloaded, feeling good about what I've accomplished so far1
-
Nice, Jenny!
I got my Hogwarts all up-to-date. Time to pack up and get ready to head out for spa weekend. Estimated departure in about 1.5 hrs. Finishing eating1 -
Back! Mini-getaway trip report. (Copy/pasted from Hogwarts, so I guess it's a dupe for you )Hubby and I are doing a Spa Getaway the beginning of Wk 2 in Cape Elizabeth . (At Inn By the Sea). Can't wait! We have reservations at:
- the on site Sea Glass Restaurant (2 breakfasts & a dinner),
- off site The Good Table (dinner),
- and plans for lunch 1 day at the off-site C Salt Gourmet Market, all in Cape.
(Oh, I said that already ;-).)
Inn by the Sea has an incredible deal for Maine Residents on the off-season., or maybe it was the Habitat for Humanity special that we booked Half off the room rates with a $35 donation to Habitat for Humanity. Also, pets stay free. One of our cats isn't getting along very well with the two younger (formerly feral) brothers, since we boarded them all 3 together in the same stall for 2 weeks at the end of August, so we're going to take him with us to the spa getaway, and leave the little guys to fend for themselves for a couple days, at home (plenty of water, food, and clean litter, obvs, lol).
We've always wanted to go to the Inn By the Sea, next week's the time we'll do it!wesleepuntilthesungoesdown wrote: ยปHave a great time @mkksemail!
I had a look back on my holiday trips and it was 2016, how time flies!!
Had the lobster at the Good Table, weโd hired bikes and cycled to St Johnโs island and back so in the evening just had a short walk up the road from where weโre staying to the Good Table, they had a lobster deal on, twin lobster and fries for $18โฆ. I couldnโt resist!Wow, that IS a great deal, Weslee! Back in the 90s, you used to be able to get lobster on sale for less than chop meat (hamburger beef, can't recall what you call it in the UK ๐ค ... mince meat?). But NOW ... it's $36 and more for a single lobster roll, and whole lobsters are often around $10/pound. *yikes*
Really looking forward to checking out the Good Table. There was just a recent article in our local news, a couple mos ago, about the chef. He's a Cape Elizabeth native, and after 10 yrs or so, he's taking a step back from culinary pursuits, to pursue other things. I can't remember what now. I bet the restaurant is still wonderful food, tho! Haven't been before, it will be our first time.
@wesleepuntilthesungoesdown , The Good Table was FABULOUS!!! The Roasted Carrots starter was my favorite food of the weekend
Mini-getaway trip report:
Just back from the spa getaway with hubby (we planned several mini-Maine-getaways for this yr, as our 35th wedding anniversary celebration), and I'm buzzing with good vibes and positive energy. The lady at the deli counter, where I was picking up sliced sharp cheddar and sliced aged provolone last night even noticed it! lol she said I love your energy, come and visit me again! heh
I had some DELICIOUS veggie dishes, while we were there, including a Roasted Carrots starter that I would have been fine with as my full meal on our first night. It was remarkable! I wish I could remember exactly what was in it, the menu card (I took a pic) just mentioned the roasted carrots, pistachios, and mascarpone. The main that night was fish (beer batter fried fresh haddock) and chips (old bay seasoned crisped up fries). The Fish was like, REALLY fresh, but unflavored. The flavor was all in the batter, and it was dinner on my Day 6/Transition Day after my 5-day fast, so ... yea, too heavy. I ate about a third of one of the fish filets and maybe a quarter of the fries (which were also REALLY good ... you really can't go wrong with Old Bay Seasoning, can you? ) Hubby had The Good Table's Fish Chowder, Mussels, and an Austin Street Brewery Walcott Smoked Brown Ale. He finished all of his things . I tried the Chowder and the Ale, yup, they were good!.
And a Mushroom dish that sounded amazing on the menu, but I hesitated b/c of the mushrooms. I don't love mushrooms ;-). I was vacillating between the Mushrooms entrรฉe (Asian inspired: Roasted Mushrooms, Jeow Som Sauce, Crispy Sticky Rice, Bok Choy, Spicy Ginger Mayo) and the Cauliflower entrรฉe (Middle Eastern inspired: Vadouvan Spiced Cauliflower, Borani Banjan, Panisse, Avocado Yogurt), but in the end went with the Mushrooms b/c the Cauliflower dish included Panisse, which my google said was kinda like a deep fried polenta - the fried fish and chips from the night before weren't a fantastic memory (not the taste, but the feel in my belly), so ... even tho I thought I'd prefer cauliflower to mushrooms, man I'm glad I went with the mushrooms! I did ask the server about the two dishes, she said they were each very different, but the Mushroom was incredible. She was right!! I was very glad I went with the mushrooms. Did better on this dish, as far as finishing, I ate 2/3 of it, instead of less than 1/4 heh. Hubby had a Lobster Roll w/ Crispy Fries, a Bissell Brothers Substance, and I had a dessert wine after (Royal Tokaji)
We did have heavy breakfasts on the 2nd and 3rd days, tho, so it wasn't all virtuous ;-) (I won't post those pix ). A lovely charcuterie board lunch, with fresh fruits, and homemade brownies made Monday delightful. Monday was the Mushroom dish day . And I did drink lots of water the whole weekend; the workouts, the walks, and the tub soaks left me feeling parched and thirsty a lot of the time.
We also had a long winter beach walk that morning, where we saw clams digging into the sand (!), experienced a rare earthquake in Maine (!) during breakfast (I thought it was a convoy of trucks, lol). We did also go on a nighttime winter beach walk, but those pix are on hubby's phone .
Look close! Clams digging in
Bubbles! Clam just went in
Hubby's fitbit walk stats
We had a long soak in the air jet oversized tub, then a movie, during the afternoon, while the wind picked up significantly outside; it howled and blew all afternoon, evening, and night (felt like we were in a cozy mystery story, in an old Inn, where a murder took place! heh),
Plus a workout in the gym after dinner. (Actually, there were after dinner workout in the gym on both nights; they had a Pelaton bike which was very fun, really liked the classes.).
On our last morning, we again had breakfast at the on-site Sea Glass Restaurant, skipped a third workout in the fitness room ;-), had a second tub soak and relax in the air jet tub and loft bedroom, then had a couples Swedish Massage and a late check-out before heading home. Loved the spa getaway - recommend! We'd never done a spa weekend before.

Looks like a wonderful, memory packed get away! We had an uneventful rest of the weekend. Got my Invisalign started yesterday, so I've been feeling off the last couple days. I'm about to go do a 30 minute strength routine. I want to do an hour between the kitchen/bathrooms tonight, but will play it by ear, I feel really wrung out.1
-
Don't overdo !
It was a great getaway .
We got a couple inches snow overnight ... and I shoveled snow for a couple plus hours this afternoon ;P. Need to shower, but soooo pooped!1 -
Oh boy! SNOW!!! It's been raining here all day! bah!!!! Feeling slightly better today, but I didn't accomplish anything on the house to speak of. I tried a new recipe (chicken chaffles) and they turned out ok! I'll probably make them again!
I didn't get up at 5 and walk, but I needed the extra sleep (until almost 6- have I told you how much I LOVE working from home? I have to log in at 7, but it's just the room right next to the bedroom!).
I'm really working on learning how to relax and get my vagus nerve working better- every day my Ultrahuman ring yells at me "It took longer than usual for your heart rate to drop. Your lowest heart rate was at 4:32".... I think I've broken it with the severe stress of the last 4 years. I'm really trying to get to a healthier place.
I started using a grounding mat under my desk- yesterday- and today I can already (maybe?) tell a difference? It's supposed to help with inflammation and pain (among other things), and MAN I was peeing like a race horse ALL day! We have a grounding mat for the bed coming tomorrow. Can't wait to see how it helps both of us!1 -
I started to answer last night, by saying 'Don't overdo ... ' and then going on, but every time I typed a 'D', an alternate keyboard function popped up . I had to reboot bc I didn't know how to fix it ๐.
Anywayyyyy, I just laid it aside for the night ;-).
What's a grounding mat? And cool that it is being so helpful to you! I saw your pic of chicken chaffle cheeseburger in Hogwarts, the chicken & cheese waffles turned out perfectly! The wfh setup sounds pretty sweet.
Interesting, on the Ultrahuman ring, heart rate recovery, vagus nerve, stress, and relaxing. What kind of relaxation exercises do you do?
I have another couple quiet days on deck. I'm pulling together some digital organizing. The new (refurb) HP laptop and MacBook Air computers arrived on Wed. I have to get them set up and updated, too. I have some bodyweight exercises I need to get to doing, for Hogwarts. And a homecooked meal to cook. And some other stuff. And a book to read the first 65 pages of, for book club. And some Amazon boxes to open, sort, and put away.
I was sooo tired yesterday! The spa weekend Sun-Tue, 3 workouts, 2 hot air jet tub soaks, 2 long walks, and many great meals, followed by 2h 20m snow clearing on Wed wore me out! Had a quiet Thu.1 -
Not overdo? Crazy! lol
I think Scott really liked the chaffles, so Iโll make them again!
We are on the road. Will stop in about 1.5 hours for gas, bathroom and brisket at Bucees. Iโve already got 9000 steps in, got a 5k done before we got moving on the day.
Next week Iโll work on the digital planner, this weekend is crazy. lol
My house exploded today, had to empty out my dresser for us to take to Hannah and her husband. Stuff that was brought home from the wedding in December that was still in Scottโs truck had to be cleared out. lol
Iโm really excited that this month I lost 7 pounds! Itโs a start!!1 -
Wooohoooo!! Congratulations on all ! ๐ฅณ Enjoy your trip.
We got 5.2" snow overnight, today's workout will be snow clearing.1 -
Hope you got all your snow cleared easily!
I have thoughts I'll share tomorrow about the weekend, but for tonight I'm tired, I'm inspired to get the house in order, this week will be a heavy cleaning week- need to get my bedroom put back in order, clean out my office dresser and load it with my clothes is just the start! Will be making a hit list tomorrow for the week!1 -
Good Morning!
Well, I finally figured out how to get my digital planner updated! Only took me a MONTH! ahahhahahahah...
Well, now I get to have fun with it, and will be messing with it today!
Today's house plans:
Today's focus is always office, but even more so today, since I need to clean out my "office dresser" and make it my "clothing dresser" WHY do I have a dresser full of JUNK that I never look at? If I'm not using it, it is not of value to me. So, that is my focus today.
Thoughts about this weekend:
Though Hannah's house was a COMPLETE wreck (boy I did bad teaching them how to keep a house), she and her husband worked VERY hard to empty out the "spare" bedroom that had become a dumping ground and the carpet was ruined by cat pee. The rest of the house was just so bad. We ended up staying in a hotel because we couldn't access the bed reserved for us.
BUT- Hannah and Scott taught her husband (Jonah) a new word- Hotspot. They even said it was from Flylady. Hannah said she loved when they did Flylady (Is that still around??? she asked! I told her YES!), she brought up Handipoints and how much she loved that too. So, maybe I didn't do ALL that bad! Her husband is VERY motivated to get the condo decluttered and cleaned up. so they have ripped up the carpeting in the spare room, will be painting it this week and laying down LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank), they are planning on ripping up the carpet in the rest of the upstairs and painting as well! BTW, we own this house, and are looking to sell it in the next year, so this will help us a LOT! I'm really proud of them both. Now I need to start FLYing again!1 -
Ahhhh, so exciting! What a great update! Hannah and Scott knowing Hotspot, and Hannah loving when you did FLYlady! And your digital planner, too? I'm soooo into that this year. What are you using, may I ask?
I played at learning a few possibilities last year, Slack stands out in memory. And some Notes apps. But I'm basically usually Google Calendar, for the most part.
I have snow clearing to do today. Hubby comes home tonight (he's been at Katie's pet-sitting).
So funny to hear about Hannah grown up and married! I remember them as tweens and younger ^-^. Paige and LeeAnn, right? I can't recall who's the middle and who's the younger, tho.
If the cat pee leaked into the floorboards, you can get the stain/smell out with super-hydrogen peroxide, and pads to cover. My daughter did that on her floors a couple years ago. It's not the regular hydrogen peroxide from the drug store, but super concentrated. You soak the floor, and cover it overnight, or until it dries. She used disposable pads that you use for housebreaking puppies, etc. It took multiple 'treatments', but the stains and odor all came up, eventually. Eric and I sanded the floor for her, afterwards, as a bday gift.
I'm focusing on the bathroom, starting tomorrow. Today my focus is snow, and new laptops (didn't do that yet).0 -
I pay for Gooodnotes on my iPad and got a really comprehensive (read: overwhelming) planner off Etsy. I think it was like $5, but it came with 2 or 3 extra years, so.... worth it! Well, looks like it's now $2!!! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1661820574/all-in-one-digital-planner-2024-2025?transaction_id=4158900834
I've also gotten some digital stickers, so that's fun at times too! Now to just use it consistently!
I will tell them about the super hydrogen peroxide, sounds like it might need to happen. BTW, Hannah is the middle, LeighAnn oldest and Paige youngest.
Today I was able to get my office dresser cleaned out. I have one cube of stuff to keep, some craft stuff on my desk (really a small amount) and a few things to sell! I'm really proud of how well I got rid of stuff!
I also got the dw unloaded (made Scott do it), reloaded/started (had to wash my Valentines mugs), and cooked a good dinner! I really liked the new recipe for chaffles I made tonight! I'll have to make a video. They are super easy and super yummy!
Not sure if you saw some of these on my FB page: (btw, I'm kinda irritated. The photographer was a friend of HIS family and these are just "sneak peek" pictures- NONE of her and her bridesmaids were in the sneak peek.)
1 -
Oh MY, those are gorgeous !!! Ahhh, I just put Hannah at the top since she got married, lol. I knew I didn't recall the birth order. I'm sure the bridesmaids will be in lots of pictures . No, I didn't see them on FB. The only reason I 'ran into' you there was my Prolon FMD Fasting. I hadn't been on FB for years. Reluctantly went back b/c there's a FB Support Group for the fast. So now I'm there when I'm fasting, lol .
I love the sparklers. And who is Santa !? It looks like a beautiful wedding, Jenny ๐.
Coool, on the planner. Will check it out. I cleared snow for 3h 24m yesterday - over 24k steps and 8 miles, for the day! I did *not* get the new laptops up and running and updated. My focus today will be laptops. And starting on bathroom . LOL right after I finish my bp and protein tea . I got a great sleep, tho. And was asleep before midnight, too. Win win ๐ฅณ.
Oh! And hey, I finished my first Conqueror Virtual Challenge, too . That's what I was looking at just before I popped on to MFP to check in. The leaders of the FB support group have a Messenger Chat going on. There was a new kind of challenge released, a history-based one, The Roman Empire: Caesars and Emperors. To 'launch' the new kind of challenge, they invited everyone in the FB Support Group to travel along together in a Virtual Community, on the Conqueror App, and they set up a Messenger Chat to go along with it.

Nice job yesterday! That was a lot of work to get the snow cleared! I bet you were WIPED!
I'm working on getting better sleep. I wonder why I can get a better sleep score at other places (like the hotel this weekend, my parent's house) and NOT in my own bed... Maybe the cats snuggling my head all night? Still can't get my heart rate to drop earlier in the night. I will keep working on it. I think I've just been under such a stress load for so long, I just can't relax.
Today's focus is the bathrooms for me:
1. Clean both rooms
2. pick up the counters
3. clean the litter boxes in the 2nd bathroom (need more litter)
4. wash floors
Other things to accomplish:
1. un/reload dishwasher, start before bed no matter how full
2. declutter clothes on bedroom floor (do we REALLY need them?)
3. vacuum kitchen/hallway/dining room1 -
This is my digital planner page from yesterday. I prettied it up today
1 -
That's a big day planned, J !
Hm I remember one of those old Flylady emails talking about getting better sleep in a hotel room. She said to make your bedroom a clutter-free peaceful oasis, and maybe we'd get better sleep.
I also have stacks of clothes in there! They're on the dresser tops tho. Need a serious declutter. Not for today tho. Working on the bathroom this week. It's more than a 1-day job. I put shelves up in early September, and got cute bags to keep stuff organized, but I haven't actually DONE the organizing/sorting/decluttering/populating the shelves yet .
Also, I was invited to participate in a Fitbit hypertension study a couple years ago. For 60 days (or something like that), you followed along with slow breathing exercises on your watch. A circle expanded and contracted, to match your breathing. It was 6 breaths per minute, 5 count in, 5 count out. It's a super-relaxing meditation. I kept it up for a few months after, but let it fall to the wayside. It did bring down my bp readings, too. 10 pts or more, on the upper/systolic number, a couple/few pts, on the lower/diastolic number.
1 -
You are so right! I think that's part of it, the bedroom is in MAJOR CHAOS! The clothes on the floor were on my dresser before we gave it away! LOL So, yeah...
Sounds like a fun project for the week filling those shelves! Thankfully I attacked my main bath a couple weeks ago and have been somewhat keeping it up, so I forsee 30 minutes to clean up and scrub the counters/toilet. The floors will take a little longer, but I have a vacuum type machine that is for washing floors. It works great for my laminate floors, why wouldn't it work in the bathrooms too? I feel almost stupid saying I didn't even think about using it in the bathroom until today
My fitness ring has an app that does breathing too. I think I need to remember to do it more than just 10 minutes before bed That's pretty awesome that it helped your BP so much! Just breathe......

oh! I didn't see this b/c you posted while I already had the page open. I guess when my post went, the page doesn't refresh.
That is SOOOOO cool !!!
Now, is that just the digital planner link you showed me? (It looks like it). Or is that the app that you use (Goodnotes)?0 -
You download the planner into Goodnotes. They work together. I also got some digital stickers, and that's what I used on the page I love that I can import pictures (especially progress pics when I'm working on a project), etc
Goodnotes offers free and paid for stickers, so you can build up a sticker collection pretty quickly for free!1 -

That's soooooo coool !
However! I am resisting (with effort) the trip down that sidetrack rabbit hole ;-). I just spent a bunch of money on a collection of individual focus journals, for all of the oars I've stuck in the water. Going analog this year. (Well, with my Google calendar, and Hogwarts spreadsheet, ofc)
