HOW IT ALL WORKS: The February challenge runs for four weeks, from February 2nd - March 1st.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leader board. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get February on the road!

Hello Shape Shifters! hope you are all doing well.
I am one of the captains of the team together with Jessica. We take care of all the data such as your weigh ins and the steps. If you have any questions, let us know! I joined this team in August 2021 and I have found it a very valuable tool on my weight loss journey.
There are a lot of things being offered here; there is the step challenge, the habit tracker, the weekly challenges, your personal weigh in and of course the Shape Shifter group chat itself. The more you engage with the group, the more you will get out of it.
Don't hesistate to reach out when you are having a hard time, chances are you aren't the only one and everyone here is kind and supportive. I often see people feel bad about posting a gain, please don't! We are all aware that weight loss isn't linear. Sometimes the scale just does what it wants, even when you do everything right. So post it, shrug it off and keep going. As long as you put in the work, the results will come, promise. Remember that one day of overeating does not erase any progress!
I wish everyone a great February with lots of victories, big and small!4 -

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members
How do I post my weigh in?
Userid
(Day of Week) Weigh-in
PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)
CW: 202 lbs (current weight)
LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)
Where is the Weigh in stats spreadsheet?
Start at the Fat2Fit Main Page and under the header information, you’ll see a section at the bottom that says “TO ACCESS THE SPREADSHEETS FOR JANUARY CLICK HERE” followed by the link in blue. Once you click on that link, it will take you to the Summary page. Find Shape Shifters on the tabs at the bottom and click on that and that brings you to the stats page. Also on this page (scrolling down), you’ll find the Step Challenge chart as well. This is where we record your daily steps if you sign up to be part of the monthly step challenge. More info on how to sign up is below! Join us!
How often should I post in the chatroom?
Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!
What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?
Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or Pupowl) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let her know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.
What happens if I miss a weigh in?
If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if no explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and she'll make sure you're covered.
How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?
Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join (in the monthly team chat thread), provide your daily step goal and share your favorite place to walk. It's that simple! Please be aware though, you're making a commitment to post your steps every 2-3 days, which helps the Captains keep the stats caught up. If you're not willing to do this, please do not sign up. (THANKS!!)
Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?
No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.
If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!
Welcome!
Jessica

My word for February- Nourish
My word for 2025 Balance
Did anyone choose a word for 2025?
January was NOT good it lasted forever and nutrition could have been better so button it up for this month1 -
Hello Shape Shifters. Time for another intro!
My name is Laura, I am 36 and I live with my cat Tinus in a small village in the Netherlands. I live close to a national park which is awesome for walks, though I recently got a walking pad which I have been using a lot instead. I also enjoy taking photographs of nature (birds are my favorite), reading, drinking obscene amounts of tea, singing, video games and jigsaw puzzles.
I struggle with some health problems that make weight loss and life in general a little challenging, but I try my best! January wasn't great for weight loss. I have also decided to take things a bit slower and eat closer to 1500-1600 calories a day instead of 1300-1400.
Tuesday I have an intake at the gym. I am really excited to start doing strength training again. I used to go to the gym back in 2020-2022 but I ended up cancelling my membership because I often didn't manage to go in the summer because of my chronic fatigue. I plan to just keep going this time, even once a week is better than nothing. My word for the year is persevere. Just because things are hard, doesn't mean I am unable to do them. Hoping to read some more introductions/goals for the month/year if you want to share!6 -
Good morning Shape Shifters. Went for another morning walk with my mom. It was colder, but more sun and no icy roads this time. We just did the same walk. Because my mom has back problems, we have to be careful not to walk too long. She wanted to do more, but I overruled her, lol. When we were almost home on Friday, she started to get stiff, which is a warning for her not to keep going, so it wouldn't make sense to go longer. I think next time she is here, we will take the bus to the national park again so we can do some more fun walks. Anyway, the walk went fine and she wasn't in pain so we now know she can walk around 6 kilometers in a row.
We went to the gift shop later in the day where my mom likes to buy cards. She also got a mug for herself. I saw some cute soapstone carvings of cats so I wanted one of those. My mom insisted on paying for it so that was nice. Of course there was lots of Rummikub in the evening again. Happy Sunday everyone5 -
@Pupowl good choice for your word!! Love the pics♥️♥️3

Please add me to February step challenge 10715/day, I am hoping to still get the 300000 for the month. Most of the walking will be indoors because of weather conditions.
@LaurieWrobo I like that you have an overarching year word plus a more focused month word.
@Pupowl it is great to see your pictures again and I hope you have a wonderful time at the gym.5 -

Good morning Shape Shifters. Last walk with my mom yesterday. We went a little shorter because she wanted to relax a little and have time to pack her stuff. It was very cold again, even the ponies had ice in their manes. I like when my mom is here, but I am so used to being alone, having my routine, doing things my way etc, that by the time Sunday rolls around, I can't wait for her to leave, lol. I think Tinus was also happy to have my lap available again since he wanted to cuddle a lot. The rest of the day I didn't do much besides getting my laundry done. Happy Monday everyone5

Hi, my name is Kate, and I'm 49, part of a couple with three cats and a dog. I live in the southwest. For the past few months, I've been bouncing up and down the scale, so I'm trying hard to work on nutrition, stress, and exercise while I deal with seizure issues.6 -
Welcome to all the new members and Happy February, Shape Shifters!
I’m Patrice, a 58 year old woman from northern Virginia in the USA (which is embarrassing for me to admit right now 😬 - my apologies to our international friends!). I’ve been part of the ‘support group’ on a break from the weekly weigh in because my great aunt’s health deteriorated. I traveled to Boston Nov-Jan and my sister and I cared for her at her home, while she received an hour of hospice care each day. She didn’t experience any pain and, in December, she died peacefully at home, where family could stop by to visit easily and she could be with her cat, etc. My mother’s needs are increasing, too, so I’ve been trying to get more supports in place for her (and other Boston-based family members) over the past several years.
My husband and I have two adult sons. One is graduating from Clemson University in May. He only needs to take one last class so he’s also working at a company that sells solar panels to businesses in South Carolina. My older son works full-time at a university in Boston while finishing his undergraduate degree in biochemistry as a part-time student. They’re not fully ‘launched,’ but they are getting closer to full independence. We don’t get to see them as much as we did when they lived nearby but it’s fun and interesting to see them navigating this new phase of life.
I work in the education, health/mental health, and wellness fields — uniting practitioners, program decision-makers, and people with lived experience around shared work that makes a positive difference for children and communities. In my free time, I like to row on the Potomac, Anacostia, and Occoquan Rivers in Washington, DC and Virginia. Someday, I’d like to row on the Charles River in Boston, too! I also play soccer a couple of times per week, and I’m trying to get to yoga class more —
My husband and I share a personal trainer twice a week for 30-minutes. My goal is to improve my body composition by building muscle and reducing fat. As I’ve aged, I’ve developed osteopenia so I’m using body weight exercises to prevent bone loss while building strength. I missed winter conditioning class with my fellow rowers because of my long stay in Boston so I’m working to rebuild my routine. I’ll rejoin the group in March with regular weigh-in reports but I’m going to start checking in here this month so I can focus on nutrition more. My goal is to track all food without judgment in February and look for healthy and unhealthy patterns. Best wishes to everyone!8 -
@PatriceFitnessPal it will be nice to see you popping in this month.
It sounds like you have had a challenging time taking care of everything.

Hello Shape Shifters. Yesterday I was very tired and just had a lazy day, recovering from my moms visit. I did have to go to the vet again with Tinus for his monthly painkiller shot. Besides that I didn't do anything, not even bothered with steps! It was nice. Happy Tuesday everyone6

~ TOM visit. Wasn’t feeling like doing much of anything but I did force some activity. I’m thinking about buying a used(but in almost perfect condition) elliptical. My neighbor is selling it for a quarter of what it’s worth. Just concerned about the space and where I would put it5 -

@CasandraW Thank you, I liked the frost on the little tree. Once the sun showed up, it was gone fast. I enjoyed my 'lazy' day. I am not very good at taking a rest and not making my stepgoal, but I agree it is needed sometimes.2
-
Thank you, @CasandraW. Now that I’m back home, I have a lot to catch up on. I had an eye doctor appointment that I rescheduled and someone came to fix our washing machine today because the spin cycle was broken. I have a lot of laundry to do tomorrow!
I liked the cute bird picture, too, @CasandraW! Thanks for sharing them @Pupowl. We have a heater in our bird bath so it’s fun to see all the birds that visit but it looks like a hawk stopped by today — lots of feathers! 😱
It’s time to get some groceries and plan my meals so that I eat better this month. I hope everyone is doing well. Onward!2
