    Hello Shape Shifters!

Sorry to hear about the pain you’re experiencing, and your long day yesterday, @jessicakrall8. It’s a good day to stay out of the cold and rest!

I haven’t been able to get back into my usual workout routine but I’m building momentum. I didn’t sign up for winter conditioning with my rowing group this year, because I spent two months in Boston, but I started to meet with the personal trainer (PT) at the YMCA again. My husband continued our usual time slots (twice a week) while I was taking care of family responsibilities. We share a 30-minute session so it’s not much time, but the body weight exercises are good for my bone strength. I have osteopenia so my doctor recommended calcium supplements and body weight exercises. The PT incorporates a lot of balance and core strength exercises so I think it’s useful as I age.

I’ve been eating better since I returned home following my work trips to California— Stockton and Pomona. The meetings went well and I’m looking forward to making more progress through the rest of the project funding cycle, which ends in June. Many people were affected by the fires, and were displaced even while we were meeting, but they are resilient — so inspiring! I think the community leaders will be in good shape to carry the work forward so it’s rewarding to see the positive results.

@jessicakrall8 those non-scale victories are the best! You are doing great and I'm so excited for what your year has in store for you. 💐

    PW: 162.6
CW: 162.6 luckily stayed the same, my daily w-in has been so up & down all week... over-eating on some days, and not nearly enough steps!

We went to our 2yo niece's <3 birthday party yesterday, it was nice and I did well food wise, but my brilliant self brought home some yummy cookies and mini cupcakes... and proceeded to eat them all after dinner last night! UGH! :s If I hadn't done so, the scale would have been looking much better!
We are planning to watch the Super Bowl game today, however I will not be glued to it, neither of the teams are my favorites, might get a walk in. Just hubby & I this year. We usually have a few friends over, but the past few months have been rough, on-going personal family issues... getting better, but not over. So, we are just not in a very socializing mood. It will be nice however to just spend a quiet day together.
I need to cut up some veggies for snacking with a light dip, so I don't completely blow it today!
Does anyone else have plans for Super Bowl today?

Hi, nope just like you - me and my husband will be watching the game by ourselves which is fine - we are having tacos before the game and then chips/salsa during the game - not really interested in halftime show either- just will be watching for the commercials if there are any good ones!

I don’t plan to watch the Super Bowl, but my husband will probably tune in. Our soccer schedule was shifted to 4pm so Kansas City and Philadelphia fans can watch the game, but I’m guessing viewership will be lower this year since not many people are cheering for either team. After soccer, I invited my teammate to do something together. She’s a doctor who works to eradicate malaria and her job was suspended as part of the government downsizing efforts. I understand the funding cuts are what voters asked for but I don’t understand why highly professional, good, caring people are being vilified as ineffective and wasteful. That’s not my experience at all.

It’s one thing to shift our policy and decide not to spend money on world health as a way to promote democracy and diplomacy, but it’s not necessary to blame people for implementing the policies they were directed to carry out previously. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. I’ll do my best to keep a positive outlook but it hasn’t been easy. The good news is that I’m going to get exercise at soccer today and I’m not turning to food during these sad moments.

DH and I will be watching the game even though neither of our teams are playing. We have one guest, our friends’ 4 year old daughter who did not want to go to her sister’s cheer competition.

@jessicakrall8 I'm going to tell you the same thing that I would tell my team when I was captain in a different challenge. Do not ever apologize or feel bad about bringing down the team average. This is a ficticious challenge with a group of strangers on the internet. There are no actual prizes to be had. We are all here for the same reasons, to give and receive support as we all make our way through our fitness journeys, and for the camaraderie. And that means supporting you through better or worse, thicker or thinner. I would rather the team came in last every week than have someone feel any stress about our standings, or worse, bow out of participating in the challenge.

Getting off my soapbox now... o:)

Perfectly said @DaffyGirl88!! I may use this for our group. Everything you said is so true!

@DaffyGirl88 - Great soapbox comment! I couldn’t agree more with you and @daria0919 about the purpose of supporting one another and not worrying about points!

I didn’t watch the Super Bowl but I was also hoping the Philadelphia team would win because I like some of the players. I was so glad to see Saquon Barkley shine after the way he was discarded by the New York Giants:

I’ve been disappointed that sports teams haven’t invested more resources into protecting their athletes given all we’ve learned about traumatic brain injury, etc. My son loved playing football in high school, and it was a big part of his young adult life, but I was glad he didn’t have the physical size needed to play at the college level. My father and brother both played professional hockey and my brother still coaches at the professional level so it’s a big part of my life, but I sometimes worry about how much football feels like a modern day gladiator event. There are definitely pros and cons but being part of a team is often so rewarding. Thanks for bringing so much support and energy to our Shape Shifter team!

I'm a little frustrated, because I keep losing weight throughout the week, then bam, weigh in day it bounces back up! There seems to be little rhyme or reason to it, though there must be something. Even when I don't eat so well during the week, my weight's been down. But despite trying to keep especially to the plan a day or two before weigh in, inevitably, up it goes! There must be some cause I'm not catching, I hope I figure it out soon!

In the meantime, the treadmill has been cleared of clothes (yes, it was basically being used as a closet...). So I will begin walking extra starting today. I've even picked up a couple audio books to listen to.
