My mental health is suffering so much and I know it’s a vicious Catch-22. If I ate more fresh, healthy foods, I’d feel better. But I don’t, so I feel worse. Depression is smacking me upside the head. I took my mom to the doctor on Tuesday and when she was weighed, she lost more weight. I am now officially the highest weighing female in my family. I’m so depressed about it, I went on a binge the past 2 days. Literally crying while eating. Also I usually only have alcohol occassionally, but I've been imbibing every night (just 1 or 2, so not getting drunk). Those calories are adding up, right along with all the food. If you are a praying believer, please say a quick one for help to overcome.

Also, unfortunately, not a great experience with the Garden of Life vanilla powder so far. First, it didn’t come with a scoop. What a pain to have to get out the scale and measure out 30g. I added it to my typical smoothie blend and it was just gross. (Typical blend is frozen blueberries, bananas and kale plus ginger, vanilla and water.) I wrote the company about it, asking for ideas. They wrote back and suggested using almond milk instead of water. They didn’t address the issue of no scoop, tho. They said I could return it for a full refund, but I thought I’d ask you all for some suggested uses first. Throw any ideas at me, please!

@vegan4lyfe2012 im sorry for your mental battles. It sounds very similar to some of the battles I’ve had. I’ll be praying for you.

This may seem odd coming from the meat eater, I would suggest switching to green foods (cooked ie slightly sautéed) and healthy type fats. Such as avocado oil, olive oil and coconut oil. None of the seed oils. Plus and this is a big plus nothing processed.

If you’re willing to go down this path, I would suggest not eating fruit during this time frame. Itll give your body (and brain) time to use the fats to start a healing process without having to battle the carbs in the fruit.

    may your days be blessed!

@vegan4lyfe2012  - I am so sorry you are having such a hard week

What works for you to calm down from an upset? Do you journal? Have you talked to your therapist? That might be one place to start.

You also mentioned your TOM is back after a long break. Have you made an appoinment to see your physician? It sounds like something is going on, and that could be contributing to that upset.

For now, you might see if you can try putting off eating and drinking things that aren't helpful, even if for just a few minutes, to do something that feels like a kindness to yourself -- yoga, a soak in the bath, or mindful breathing?

Once you get to a better place, don't beat yourself up. Just pick yourself back up and start from where you are.

    Hang in there!

@vegan4lyfe2012 hey buddy, sorry you are having a tough time. I'm having a little bit of a setback myself - must be the planetary alignment! let me know how I can best support you. Do you want to be accountability partners regarding late-night eating? I'm resetting my count today.

I am committing to not eating anymore food until tomorrow. Today will be day 1.

@vegan4lyfe2012 - I'm sorry you are struggling. Take one small step in the right direction, and give yourself credit for doing that - even if it's just choosing to make a cup of tea instead of pouring a drink with alcohol. I'm a big believer in journaling, so if you don't do that already, maybe consider that. It's a way to get your feelings out, and get your brain to register what's really wrong, and let it figure out the right path. Above all, like @AustinRuadhain said, be kind to yourself. Hugs!

@TeresaW2024 Yes , thanks. Weekend plans...getting an oil change tomorrow, Sunday is a "Day of Romance" to celebrate our anniversary (I felt the pug cafe wasn't the most romantic way to celebrate our anniversary lol). I am making a special meal, we are watching rom coms, etc. it should be fun. How about you? What will you be doing? Have you been doing your puzzles lately? I'm glad Joe enjoyed dinner and you were able to get the meat cut off the bone, that would be difficult. I hope you have some laughs with your bestie!

@vegan4lyfe2012 Oh honey , I'm so sorry you are feeling like this. Can you remember what has helped in the past? I'm sending good thoughts your way. Sorry about the experience with the protein powder. That is a pain that it didn't come with a scoop (WTH?). Is the protein powder pea powder? If so, I would try a different type...it seems like pea powder would have a strong aftertaste/flavor no matter what.

@Cornanda Hey good to see you ! Congrats on the loss. I hope all went well at your parent's.

3 ways that I can and will finish strong:

    1. no junky foods for the rest of the month (been getting into them a bit)
    2. drink 72 oz of water each day
    3. keep tracking

Hi all. I lost 0.4 lbs this week so I'm still headed in the right direction. I had leftovers last night, I didn't feel like cooking. I am going to make something tonight, though. I am working from home today, as usual. I have to take one of my dogs for a dental today. She's my older dog, so I'm a bit worried about it. I am not going to the gym tonight per doctor's orders...nor this weekend.

    Tracked yesterday? YES!

Post 3 ways that you can and will finish strong!

    1. Eat more PROTEIN.
    2. Increase my biking (indoors) closer to what it used to be a month ago (i.e. more that 5 hours a week).
    3. Eat more IRON-rich foods because of my anemia.

@vegan4lyfe2012 , I am so very sorry that you are struggling so much now, and of course, I will be praying for you to be set free from your depression. You may need to talk to your therapist and your doctor about your TOM coming back and see if your hormones are out of whack. I conducted a quick Google search on the best-tasting vegan protein powders and found numerous options, so I had to read through many Amazon reviews to find another brand. Return the Garden of Life and receive a refund. I use unsweetened coconut milk in my smoothies, which makes them very creamy. I think @19shmoo69 gave you some very good ideas.

@Cornanda welcome back! I hope everything went well. 🙂

@trooworld A day of romance sounds perfect for your anniversary! My weekend plans are the same as my weekday plans. To not leave my house and keep Joe alive. 😂 I think my little nieces will be coming tomorrow, so that will be fun as always. Yes, I am currently doing a 1000-piece puzzle that the ladies' Bible study gave me. It’s a dark puzzle, so not my favorite, but I’m determined to finish it. 😀I hope all goes well with the dental appointment for your dog.

Good morning! I agree with @micaroo4 and would like to finish this month strong. My three ways to finish strong are to work out every day that I can. Cut out the afternoon snacking once again, and keep my food as whole and unprocessed as possible. I am also going to lose 4 pounds and get out of the 230s once and for all. Let’s do this!!! 😎 Today, I will work out and hope that Joe’s nurse shows up since she didn’t yesterday. Have a good day! 🙂

Have you been diagnosed with Depression (it's a medical condition, not a personal "mental sickness" or "flaw")? I was in 2017, and now take 100 mg of Sertraline (generic Zoloft) a day. It totally changed my life for the better (no more "walking under a dark cloud"),and helped me with my mental cravings for food.

Second, sometimes you need to just "bite the bullet" and get rid of all that junk food and process food, and alcohol, in the house… give it away, or better yet dump it in the garbage, as it's just plain harmful to your health, and those you love. Drinking alcohol increases one's weight gain, in and of itself, BUT it also lowers your mental defenses in overeating "bad" foods. If you're depressed, drinking alcohol of any kind is a big "no-no".

If you're going to "binge" at least binge on healthy foods like popcorn, nuts, fruits, whole wheat crackers w/ hummus or peanut butter. I just love my cottage cheese with pineapple bits! LOL

30g = 1 oz scoop (no need to weigh). I don't do "smoothies" myself… usually I mix 1/2 oz into my plain oatmeal, add a few raisins and cinnamon.

    Hi 👋

I don't really have much of anything going on except for the normal.

I've been really stressed lately, which really runs me down and makes me feel drained.

Today, im going to try and get a workout done and enjoy this rain and cooler weather we are having today. The rain is really needed and I put some of my plants outside to get some natural rain water.

3 things I want to do to finish the month strong:

    1. Keep tracking my food.
    2. Keep working on getting some actual exercise.
    3. Start writing in my journal again.

    Y'all have a great day 😀

ugh, I was not able to stick to my commitment. didn't feel like a binge thought, just felt like I didn't eat enough during the day.

today is another day! i think i am really stressed out, and that's not helping.

@DrewsAnna and @AustinRuadhain - I sometimes walk with Leslie Sansone too. You might also enjoy SeniorShape with Lauren. She has a great variety.

@trooworld - He did great. We took him to this place just for kids. He looks like a toddler now. The short haircut took the baby look away.

    Hi,

My trip went well. (it wasn't a vacation) Dad's surgery went well. They kept him 2 nights in the hospital. I stayed with Mom (sleeping on an air mattress with a hole in it… like I said, not a vacation) He bounced back to his old self pretty quickly once we got home. I took care of Mom and the household stuff so he could rest.

As for Mom, she needs cues and supervision to do everything except going to the toilet. Let me just say that it is very humbling to drop your Mom off at adult daycare and to give her a shower. Tears were shed.

Now that I am home, I am trying to figure out how to proceed at work following the dust up with my manager before I left. I thought my efforts were appreciated, but now I realize they may not be. I am trying to figure out how I fit in and what I can live with. It's uncomfortable. I don't like it.

Anyway, a lot of emotions between the trip and work. I definitely need to get my battery recharged.

@TeresaW2024 I'm glad you get a relief from the stress of watching Joe by having your little nieces over , they are a joy, aren't they? Good luck with the puzzle! Thank you. I've been having trouble snacking, too: at work. I bought a bag of peach gummy candies from the cafe at work. Why did I do that??? I will throw it away on Monday but I've already gotten into it. You got this. WE got this!

@Littlebabekitty Congrats on losing inches ! Great job.

@bobboyardee What can you do to alleviate some of the stress ? I'm sure that is the culprit here. Do you have any hobbies? How about taking a walk?

@baodell17724 Congrats on the loss ! Welcome back to Onederland! Thanks for the articles. I particularly enjoyed reading the ultra-processed foods one. I made the mistake of buying packs of cheese and crackers from Sam's Club; I justified it because each pack has 8 grams of protein in it. I won't buy more of those.

@Veta2018 Aww , I bet that was bittersweet then. I'm glad you took pictures, that's a great picture! Thanks for sharing.

@Cornanda I'm glad your trip went well . Hugs about your mom. That must be disappointing, the work situation. I know you were happy at work before this happened.

Hi all. My dog's dental went fine, she lost 4 teeth in the cleaning unfortunately. That doesn't leave her with many but at least she won't be in pain. We got our Trader Joe's groceries last night which just leaves the produce store and Sam's Club to get. I'll probably get Sam's Club sometime today and the produce store tomorrow. Today, we are going to the zoo. The temperature has been very comfortable lately so I expect it will be in the 70s-80s for the zoo. I also have to get an oil change today. I ordered two new 2-player card games for my husband and I to play: The Fox in the Forest is one, and Love Letter is the other one. I can't wait to play them, hopefully my husband will want to play today. I'm annoyed with Amazon: I ordered a new rolling briefcase for work and they shipped it with USPS. Well, USPS said they attempted to deliver it but front door or driveway was not accessible. This is a crock of crap as we aren't a gated community and the driveway is always accessible. They will re-attempt today. I made a peach salad for dinner: peaches, mixed greens, sliced almonds, avocado, goat cheese and a citrus vinaigrette. The almonds were supposed to be candied but I didn't want all the sugar.

    Tracked yesterday? YES!
