I somehow managed to gain 0.8 from yesterday to today after eating back normally 🙄 Body's are weird.

@micki48 I have done weight watchers in the past as well and had decent success. It's where I got to my lowest weight and ended up with gallstones lol. I tried to go back a few times, but it wasn't the same.

Today is a rainy day all day today. It's making me sleepy, but I'm about to go to the gym, so hopefully it will wake me up!

@babyw8gone where did you go on vacation?

@micki48 you were down 1.4 pounds last month which is awesome! And like you said, you had 3/5 green weeks, that's amazing!

The Shire Hobbit House was cute. Th fire pit was SO cool! It had elvish script cut outs around the fire ring, which looked REALLY cool after dark, with fire in it!

I can't post oiz from my pixel, so that will have to wait until I'm on my laptop tmo.

Many, many steps! Will update that tmo as well. Cheers! ~ mi :)

@Alatariel75 Got you down for this month with a daily target of 12K.. let me know if that's not right. Reading you say you've lost 100 pounds more than once made me feel good as I did it once and the thought of doing it again feels so daunting. What you wrote gives me hope.

@jguldi11 The week started on Sunday, so you started with the right day! Thanks!

@stephanodda You are welcome to post weekly or more often, whatever works best for you! The weeks run Sunday to Saturday so folks starting posting their week on Sunday and I usually give folks until Tuesday before I do the report. Whatever works best for you!

@MaddawgMadsen a relay race would certainly be a great motivator to be active! It sounds like you have a good plan to prepare.

@YinxFed yum that seems like a delicious dinner!

@lauren_989 it always amazes me how much weight can fluctuate from day to day. The littlest things can effect it like water retention, inflammation from a workout, hormones, etc. While it's normal it can be disappointing to see it go up from one day to the next. You still had a great loss this week though!

@Gidgitgoescrzy wow a workout that early in the morning takes a lot of dedication! Go you!!

@conleywoods those goals and objectives for managing insulin resistance are on point! Have you read the book Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe? She offers a lot of great info about managing IR, though by the steps you're taking it seems you already know what you need to do. Also thank you for your work as a school based OT, my son receives ST and OT in school and the progress he's made is amazing. You're doing great things for those students.

    @ashleycarole86 my steps from Tuesday 8/5: 10,061

Hey team, let's talk exercise calories - do you eat back your exercise calories, if so how much? And if not, why not?

Since I started wearing my FitBit again my exercise calories are way higher than I was previously estimating. I've fallen into the trap of "I can eat this snack because I have extra calories", but I think that might be why I haven't had as much progress on the scale as I'd like. What's everyone else's experience?

I have gotten better about logging and I'm seeing the snacks add up. On the plus side, I'm getting physical activity every day, even if it's just a walk, which is a big accomplishment for me. I haven't been prioritizing strength training as much though so I'm going to start focusing on that more, historically I lost more weight when I had variety in my workouts.

I had a great food day yesterday until I was lying in bed and couldn't fall asleep because I felt hungry. I had a protein muffin (ok) and tortilla chips with queso (booo). I've noticed I sleep better when I have a bed time snack but I know that's not always the best thing for weight loss. Hmmm.

Good morning, Happy Wednesday! I tried to check in yesterday, but my post wouldn't go thru. I kept getting the message that it would post after it's been approved (I was posting from my phone, so I had it saved, I always save when posting from phone bc it gets lost so often :p). I tried the post in 3 diff groups, always the same message. And there were no cuss words or anything, I swear! ;P. Super weird.

Anywayyyy lol, back home from last 4-day weekend. Two days Ren Faire-ing Sat - Sun, and 3 nights at The Shire Hobbit House, Sat - Tue. I thought I'd done pretty well this weekend, fair food was getting a bit blase for us, so I didn't overdo, I was actually looking forward to the scale this morning, to have it confirm what my I thought my food diary was predicting - no weight gain, maybe even a loss bc so active. NOPE! omg, up 3.6 lbs! I can only hope it's swoll again, I did get up 3x last night to pee, and 4x the night before, maybe pee-ing out knee swolls? I dunno. Hoping for less of a disaster by tmo's weigh in 😬.

    Cheers! ~ mk :)

Jackie, SUCH a great post! I do eat my exercise calories, but I dunno, maybe I shouldn't. It's not working out all that great for me :p. I've been focusing so much on trying to up my freg intake, as well as nuts, legumes, beans, seed, etc, that tbh I stopped focusing on CICO so much. I was intending in late spring and this summer to bring the two focuses together, but I haven't been succeeding very well. As I do better with cals, I do worse with freg etc, as I do better with freg etc, I do worse with cals. I need a bit more discipline, I think.

Vikki, ALSO a great post ! Although, I'm the opposite when it comes to leftovers ;-). Leftovers are my favorite food! :D I don't care what it is, if it's already made, and only requires reheating, I am in. hah! Loved the Tai Chi and balance part, balance is something that I've been working on, too. With my sketchy knees, anything to prevent another fall is a good thing.

I think I've mentioned it here before but my husband (who is also our cook) doesn't like leftovers at all so he basically cooks a new meal for two every time he cooks. Good thing he enjoys it! It works out okay for me because while I don't mind leftovers, they're definitely not my fav. @Gidgitgoescrzy we love HelloFresh too.. the meals are always so tasty, I think it's the spice combos they come up with.

I do generally eat my exercise calories, but for me that depends on what calorie deficit I'm set at. When I lost my 100+ pounds, if I hadn't eaten the exercise calories back, I would have been under eating. So I guess it just depends what your total deficit equates to, or it did for me anyway.

To answer the question posed by @jguldi11 - Hey team, let's talk exercise calories - do you eat back your exercise calories, if so how much? And if not, why not?

When I count calories, I usually do not eat my exercise burned calories because as a general rule for me, it doesn't work. I end up consistently gaining weight. Notice I said usually. If I burn a LOT of calories (like what will happen with the upcoming relay race), I will allow myself some extra. Or, if I am just really hungry after days of extra workouts, I allow an extra snack or two, but try to keep the calories minimal.

I'm not so sure about tomorrow's weigh-in. Today did not seem promising. But, I've done two CrossFit workouts, one spin class, and one day on the elliptical thus far this week. I'm really hoping that what I see on the scale is just water retention and/or muscle gain.

    @ashleycarole86 - Tuesday, August 5 - 12,733 steps, 40 minutes elliptical (10-ish minute pace), 1 hour of CrossFit.

@YinxFed that forest is beautiful! And thanks for the recipe!

@jguldi11 I do not eat my exercise calories back. But then again, I'm only exercising about an hour a day. If I do get hungry, I will add an extra 100 calorie snack.

@whitfcan I hope your back feels better!

@mkksemail I can't wait to see your pictures!

@ashleycarole86 my steps for Wednesday are 7020 - at 11:58pm I realized I was about 250 shy of my goal of 7000 so I started running up and down the hallway 🤣 I made it just in time!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my question, it's given me a lot to think about! I think I'll do best if I don't eat my exercise calories, but like a couple of you said, if I'm truly hungry then allow a small snack.

We used to have Hello Fresh, and then Every Plate deliveries. I really liked not having to think too hard about what to plan for dinner, and I learned some new cooking skills. Unfortunately they didn't offer the greatest options for diabetics, so once my husband got his diagnosis we stopped using the meal kits. I did keep all of the recipe cards though, so I'll modify those sometimes to be more fitting for our needs. I looked into some of the meal kit options that offer lower carb options but they were so costly!

@YinxFed I wish I was there with you for that forest walk, it must be so peaceful.

I am sad this is up, but it is not nearly as bad as it has been the last couple of days. I am sore all over from CrossFit. So, I am really hoping the weight gain is muscle gain.

How is it the 7th of August?

I'm Joann, I'm 44, live in Alberta and work full time in Public Health. I have a 11 year old daughter and 3 year old German shepherd dog that keeps us active. I have been working on managing work stress as my workplace has shifted into a slightly toxic place. I'm re-evaluating where I want to work and what I want to do. I'll be so close to completing my MPA and have a class in the fall - this month I'm taking it all in as class will add to my workload.

July has been a good month. I've been focusing on doing 3 strength classes and 2 runs a week and have kept it up all month. Also, the weather has been fantastic, and my garden is looking great, I've pulled some zucchini out and eating some beans.

August will be fun but will throw my schedule off. We have family coming the middle of August and then off on vacation for 2 weeks until September. As much as I know my exercise and eating will be thrown off, I'm looking forward to the break.

stephanodda - It's natural to seek comfort when things are out of your control. Hope you can give yourself some grace and pick yourself up. Also hope you get a decision soon - waiting is the worst.

@jguldi11 I don't eat back my exercise calories every. I had asked my weight loss coach about it in the past and she said to not do that. When you set up your calorie estimate and pick your activity level, the level you pick should include your weekly exercise and your NEAT activities. It's important to stick to your workout and activity schedule so you have a consistent baseline. (A work in progress for me). This way you only manipulate your food calories. My food log through my coach let's me eat within 20% of each of my macros. This way I can eat a little more some days and less on others if I want. This is helpful on big activity days!

I have the cookbook that goes with The Glucose Revolution! Love the book. So glad your little one is doing well in OT. This year is my 20 year anniversary of being a school OT! Best job ever!

@YinxFed Loved the pictures of your forest walk! The recipe sound so good too.

@Gidgitgoescrzy I love your birthday party plan to send all the treats away! I wouldn't have guessed thai chi would make you that sore!!!

It's time of the month and I am really working on pushing through and checking all my habits off the list. My usual routine is to throw myself a pity party and live off carbs until it's over. I'm making progress and got everything checked off yesterday. I procrastinated my work out and ended up in line for our home gym. Finished at 9:00. I gave our gym a make over and now my husband and teenagers are in there daily too. My goal today is check all my habits off the list.
