    Greetings Friends,

Not doing too bad - this is my 4th executive day checking in.

Choir was fun last night. But when I woke up this morning I was completely knackered. I think it might have been going up "Cardiac Hill" - the final section of my forest walk yesterday.

So I moved some of my workouts around.

Dinner tonight is bangers and mash with gravy and veg.

Talking about recipe boxes, I've tried Hello Fresh, Mindful Chef and Gousto meals in the past. But I really like planning and cooking my own meals. Besides, I can't be the only one with a stack of cookbooks to refer to when I think things are getting a little bit repetitive!

I'm working tomorrow, but as it's Friday, it's all good!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

    TTFN

@lauren_989 I'm going to weigh in late this week

@YinxFed I always love your forest walk pics. Congrats on four days of checking in. I always feel better when this group is top of mind for me.

Busy week at work with lots of emotional ups and downs. So glad tomorrow is Friday. We got some amazing news yesterday.. our second property in Calgary that we had as a rental sold, so we are now free and clear of any property ties to our old city. It was stressful to think of continuing to be a landlord from afar, so both Brad and and I are super relieved. It's not so easy to sell condos so we feel lucky.

@mkksemail I love how you review your week! That is super helpful for moving forward

@ashleycarole86 congrats to you and Brad on selling the condo! I could see how that would be very stressful being a landlord from far away. I also can't wait for the weekend, today at work was crazy.

My head is hurting this evening, so I'm going to take medicine and relax. I hope everyone has a good evening!

@ashleycarole86 - Thursday, August 7 - 7,852 steps, 30 minutes of horseshoes (not sure if that counts or not, but it's what I did last night)

@MaddawgMadsen horseshoes is a lot of fun!

@Alatariel75 @ashleycarole86 it's amazing how much our emotional health ties in to our physical health and eating plan. I know when I got super stressed at work Thursday, I binged and got some candy 😫 Today was a new day and got back on track. I need to find a way other than snacking on something sweet to handle stress at work.

I have a lot of catching up to do! Early Thursday morning, about 3am I had to take my husband to the hospital, he had gotten some food caught in his throat at dinner the night before and went to urgent care to try to get it out, but they weren't able to help, thus our trip to the hospital. Fortunately all is well now, but Thursday was a very long, tiring, and stressful day and yesterday was a rest and reset day for us. Not a whole lot of physical activity and some food choices could've been better. It always amazes me how hospitals in our area serve some of the unhealthiest foods.

Yesterday I ordered a Mediterranean bowl from a new local restaurant thinking I was making a healthy choice with all the extra veggies and lean meat. I had NO idea garlic sauce contains so many calories. I got an extra side of garlic sauce and didn't check the calories until after eating it (why do I do that?!) And for 2oz it was 300! calories 🙃 wtfudge?! Usually I do pretty good at estimating calories in things but I was wayyyy off on that.

@conleywoods do you mind sharing what CGM you're using? Sorry if you already did and I forgot lol. I've been thinking about getting one to gain some health insights. Congrats on winning that challenge!

@mkksemail wow you have a lot of very active days! I have noticed any time my muscles are sore from exercise the number on the scale goes up a bit. I know it's a normal process but it's still a bit discouraging!

@Alatariel75 it is so easy to fall back into old habits, but you have great insight and motivation to want to get back on track so I'm sure you will! You've done it before, you can now too.

@ashleycarole86 that would be a relief! I can't imagine trying to be a landlord from afar while managing a big move and new job.

Happy Saturday, friends! Lauren, heheh, lol, thx! (on your comment about my review of my week) when the week is that much of a disaster what else can you do, right? 🤪

Al, with ya girl, I also had a less than stellar week ;-). Don't beat yourself up so much, tho. The scale doesn't determine who you are, it's just a thing that gives us info that we can onboard and use to make adjustments, right? :D. I refuse to let a hard-molded plastic jobbie make me ashamed. (okay, maybe a twinge, but I blame Catholic School for that ;-) hah!).

    Woop! congrats on sale, Ashley!

Jackie, ya, no kidding on high activity days, and you're right, that does come with swolls. It's a bit shocking all the same, yanowhadimsayin'? :p Also, NO JOKE on toppings, dips, sides, add-ins! Man, they can really drive that cal count UP, can't they? Still and all, 300 cals for the 2z garlic sauce is not what I'd have guessed either. Boo hiss booo (why does it taste so good, tho, right?! :D).

So, speaking of high activity days, I'm telling you guys, I def feel it. Especially in my right heel which is always sore and tender after high usage days. My friend took me to The Good Feet Store to try out some orthotics, and holicrap, I can't believe people pay thousands of dollars to put an insert in your shoe! So anyway, I was just telling my BLC team about it, here's my summary of the experience ;-) ~

I went with a friend to The Happy Feet store yesterday, to see if orthotic insert could help calm heel pain that has been flaring on and off since April when I had a plantar fasciitis event (boy that's fun - NOT). I had no idea what the place was, my friend told me about it. It didn't take long before I was starting to feel like this was a Kirby Vacuum type of deal? You know, when the person comes to your house, demos a vac and charges you a couple thousand for a machine that should cost a fraction of that? Yea, that's what The Good Feet was. Sure, the orthotic did feel good, and my PT did mention that an orthotic that cupped the heel could be helpful, but holic potatoe pie, Batman! It was $1,635 for the BASIC package. They conveniently offered a $135 monthly payment plan. lol The deluxe package was $2400-something. I read about i after I got home. Here's an eye-opening podiatrist's review (which confirmed my gut feeling, even before I found out the price):

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/home/leaving?allowTrusted=1&target=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.joelfosterdpm.com%2Fblog%2Fpodiatrists-honest-review-of-the-good-feet-store-experienced-kansas-city-area-podiatrist.cfm

No, thank you :). It was a good experience tho, and reminded me to try out some inserts so my right heel isn't always sore or tender after high-usage days. I ordered a few to try out, on Amazon. All for less than one monthly payment ;-). If they do seem to help, I might consider the Powerstep option he mentions, that could cost something under $100 for a pair. We'll see!

Wishing all a happy weekend! Hellos to Micki (I just love that name, Michelle), Veronica, Jolene/maddawg, Pearl, Yinka, Kristi/conleywoods, JoAnn/cleaneater, Vikki/gidgit, Steph, Janice/fourathome, Ellie/strongfitells, Candace/whitfcan, and I ope I didn't miss anyone :D.

Lauren, LOVE that pic of you and hubby on the beach so much!! (pls may I ask some more names be filled in on our Aug spreadsheet, I'm terrible with names, but am making an effort to learn. It'll probably take me a few mos lol). Is Kali @Kali225 on a break this month, btw? I loved reading her posts. She handled the rainy New England late spring/early summer WAY better than I did! hahah

Rando trivia tidbit: My BLC team is the Determined Desert Tortoises. I learned yesterday that a group of Tortoises is called a creep. Hilarious! "Hi Creep!" heh ~ Cheers, mk :)

@mkksemail wow! That is expensive for some shoe inserts! I wonder how they stay in business!

We went to the park to walk today and ended up walking 5 miles. It was gorgeous out! It was sunny and around 75F. Perfect temperature! We may have split an ice cream after 😁 Now I'm just chilling. My hamstrings are super sore from my workout a few days ago, otherwise I would go work in the yard pulling weeds. Also need to mow…

Not a good week for me on the scale, just didn't wanna face the music.

  • conleywoods

@jguldi11 I have the stelo by dexcom CGM. I picked that one because it pairs with my Oura ring. I just did the one month option. I have two sensors in my order and they each last 14 days.

@mkksemail That is way so much for an insert!!! If you do like having someone help you pick inserts most running shoe stores can do that. If you have a Fleet Feet they are really good and significantly cheaper!

@lauren_989 Your walk in the park sounds like a great time. That's awesome you got 5 miles in!

Yessssssss, I wanna partner with you, Jackie !! You were my first choice, but then I saw you were participating last week, so I thought your dance card might be full :). So happy !! :D

Ashley, right, I feel ya on not wanting to face the music on the scale. I didn't want to, either ;-). Might as well just get it over with right? And besides, I already broke the scale for our team for this week (sorry guys 😖), so you did no additional damage 😉.

Kristi/conley, riiiiggghhhttt, on the inserts! I don't think I have a Fleet Feet near me, but I did order some from Amazon. For less (way less!) than 1/2 the payment on the 'Basic' The Good Feet package, I order 2 kinds of Dr. Scholls, and 2 other non-Dr. Scholls kinds to try out. I figured I'd just put them in diff shoes, and see what I like. If it helps, I might consider buying one of those more expensive ones the podiatrist in the review blog & youtube (that I linked in my initial post) mentioned. Maybe! lol

Zan, hoping you feel better soon 🐣

Happy Sunday, Team WaistAways ! 🤭🐢 ←— That's the Turtle mascot from my BLC team. We need a Team Mascot for Team WaistAways :D :D :D How else will I know which goofy emoji is appropriate 🤣😍😎

So, me update: ohhhh, thank goodness, partial swoll whoosh! down this morning, scale kept going up up up day after day after day. Down 2.6 this morning (still 2.8 lbs up from Jul 31, tho! As of yesterday, I had been up 5.4 lbs in 10 days (again!), from Jul 31, to Aug 9 😳, darn swolls!). I'm heading over to officially team up/sign up for that 1-week long Partner Up activity-based challenge with Jackie ❣️, starting today. Time to move again, rest time is over!

    Cheers, ~ mk :)

Sending hugs & support & empathy @Alatariel75. Been there many times. I had to dig out my bigger clothes this spring that I’d put away last fall - hoping to never see them again - that was tough. And I’ve been staying in them now for months. I’m still trying though and not giving up. One day the jeans I’m wearing today are going to be in a “before” picture. I declare it!
