Good morning, I've been fighting myself the past few days, but it seems the healthy side won, I did Pilates yesterday, and this morning I did my tai chi, I discovered it's not actually tai chi though, it's based on something called Baduanjin, its a you tube video I found, and I liked it, so why not.

Food has been good, although I got lazy last night and didn't feel like cooking so I had some leftover pasta salad which had lots of veggies in it, but still not very diet friendly.

I am a little worried about weigh in tomorrow, I am so tired of being on this roller coaster.

    Just checking in, friends!

The sun's been really beating down in the UK these past few days and I'm in my upstairs studio at home, which is incredibly hot too! But it's such a peaceful place to work, and I get so much more done when I'm in a space that's set up for working.

So last night I called my mum and found out that she had taken a fall on her bathroom floor the morning before. And it took her more than 45 minutes to get up! My mother is a strong African mama who is fiercely independent, but this scared her (and me!) But she has just turned 85 and - despite her best efforts - she's not getting any younger.

So I spent last night researching alarms that can be put in place and that will alert her and us if she falls again. And this morning I updated my 3 brothers and my sister (who lives in the Netherlands). I'm putting a rota in place so that we all take it in turns to spend weekends with her. They were all amazing, and I feel so proud of them. I also feel much better knowing that we are looking after Mum as a family.

    WEIGH-IN

    PW: 165.7

    CW: 167.5

Life Update: I am slowly getting back to including physical activity into my daily routine. The injury to my back really sidelined me. 😪 I wasn't even able to bend over to put on my shoes. That, coupled with traveling last week, plus hormones, sent me into a stress-induced food indulgence. Luckily, I am equipped with giving myself grace and appreciating every day that I can improve from the previous day. I am NOT complaining…just explaining. Looking forward to getting back my regularly scheduled program this week. 🤗😁🙌

@ashleycarole86 - Tuesday, August 12 - 8,477 steps, 1 hour of CrossFit - Also, how did the plasma donation go? I usually do whole blood, but did plasma once and the double red once. Both of them made me more light headed, I almost passed out with the double red, so I tend to stick with whole red.

@jguldi11 - Great job on avoiding the snacks despite the stress of possibly having a tornado! So scary!

@Gidgitgoescrzy - It's good that the healthy side has been winning more. Whatever today's weigh-in brings, it will be fine. And, if you were craving pasta, maybe that's what you needed.

NSV - I was able to do jumprope in CrossFit again! And, I was able to string together a few double unders. This is the first time since the beginning of the year because of injury (strained calf, followed by torn meniscus).

@YinxFed so sorry to hear about your mom's fall. Glad she's okay and that your family is all banding together to support her.

@mkksemail Thursday is usually a bit late as I ideally try to do the step report by Tuesday. Having said that, I do try to hold out for folks who are posting, and you'll find my report often lingers later in the week for that reason. If you can post by Tuesday, that's great!

@Alatariel75 Not too late! What great movement. You inspire me!

@stephanodda I understand the feeling but love you ultimately ending with a tomorrow is a new day mindset. What's done is done but you can make tomorrow count

@MaddawgMadsen so the plasma donation itself was a pretty great experience. I was nervous cause the thought of them returning my red blood cells to me scared me a bit, but it was all fine. But holy heck am I tired today! They say plasma is easier overall but I think cause it was my first time and the collection volume is larger I really felt it. Plus, it was right before bed so I probably didn't spend enough time rehydrating. Work was smoking busy today and I was just dragging butt, so I'm taking it easy tonight.

@YinxFed oh how scary for you and your mom! But it's such a blessing to have family come together and help out when needed.

@MaddawgMadsen great nsv! Injuries are so frustrating, but overcoming them is very rewarding.

@whitfcan that sounds like it was a really serious back injury, ouch! I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. What a great attitude to have.

@Gidgitgoescrzy Baduanjin sounds interesting! I'll have to check that out, I'm always looking for new workout videos to try.

Great job getting all those steps in @stephanodda ! You are right, tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities to make healthy choices.

My Wednesda was meh. It started off great, I was able to go for a walk in the morning with one of my clients, he enjoyed it and noticed a lot more mental clarity and energy after which is so great. Toward the end of my work day I developed a nasty headache, I think from a combination of not enough sleep and someone was wearing strong perfume.

When I got home for work I made the kids a quick dinner, ate a bowl of cereal, and took a nap while my husband tended to the kids. I woke up feeling so hungry and snacked on potato chips while I heated up some protein waffles. Not the best food choices... my stomach isn't happy and I feel a little disappointed in my choices. We usually don't have potato chips in the house, I have very little self control with that kind of thing. Might just have to pitch the rest of that bag, they're starting to get stale anyway.

On the plus side, I decided to spend the money on a low carb meal kit through Dinnerly. I figure even if we just do it for a month or 2 it'll be helpful to have some new inspiration for healthier meals. I like that the recipes they offered are fairly simple and should be quick to make, which is really important for me on work days. The cost is a bit out of my comfort range but our health is worth it.

I know last week was water retention and muscle gain. Largely because I weighed myself over the weekend and was 179.6. I was really hoping for a new decade for my weigh-in this week, but alas, that did not happen.

@lauren_989 - I need to skip next week's weigh-in. I will be out of town for a relay race. I can't believe the race is already here.

@ashleycarole86 - Wednesday, August 13 - 7,149 steps - 1 hour of CrossFit. Also, I will try to post my steps while I am out of town (Wednesday the 20th-Wednesday the 27th), but I'm not sure if I will. I will make sure to get you everything through next Tuesday, and then might do a catch up on steps on the 27th as I wait in airports.

@YinxFed - I meant to say yesterday that what happened with your mom is so scary! I'm glad you and your siblings are able to band together to help her. And, I understand a bit of what you are going through. I moved to the town I currently live in so that my mom would follow. She did. Now my sister, my mom, and I all live in the same small town so that we can help her as she ages. She will be 80 in October. Luckily, no falls yet, but many other signs of her aging and we are fearful for the day she does fall.

Holy guacamole guys! I leave next week for the Hood to Coast Relay Race ( https://hoodtocoast.com/ ). Usually by this point, I have a dozen or so runs in. This year, because of my knee injury, I've done one run… on the elliptical. I have been doing pickleball, CrossFit, and bowling, and all of it has been at altitude since I live at 6,300 ft. So, I know I can complete the runs, but they will be SLOW. Luckily, my team knows about the injury and gave me a shorter leg. Also, altitude training of any kind seems to really benefit me on the runs.

@YinxFed I'm so glad your family was able to come together for your mom! That stuff is scary for sure.

@Gidgitgoescrzy You have been busy lately! New ovens are tricky. I get so annoyed when my baked items don't turn out. Probably why I don't bake very often!

I'm also loving the positive attitudes going around from so many of us. Our health isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. We're developing habits and strategies for a lifetime. It takes time to figure out what works for each of us.

@MaddawgMadsen Good luck on your race! I'm sure all the cross training will show in the race!

I've had my continuous glucose monitor on for about a week. I'm shocked at how all over the place my blood sugar is. My recent blood work up was pretty good and I don't have any signs of pre diabetes. I wasn't expecting it to be so all over the place. At least my normal morning coffee and creamer doesn't cause a spike or my protein shake. I make a really similar shake to @jguldi11 with chilled coffee, chia seeds and whey protein powder. I'm feeling a little lost on my food right now but I got some direction from my coach and I see her on Monday. It will sort out.

    CW 149.4 -

I don't understand why, but it's not as bad as it was yesterday, and it's still down from 2 weeks ago, so I will survive.

I did good yesterday, I was so busy when I got home, trying to get everything done before the clothes dryer repair guy showed up, I made myself a hello fresh meal, it was turkey tostadas, although I switched out thier tostadas for some Ole extreme zero carb tortillias. So I have the leftovers of that for lunch today. Anyway, by 6.30 when he wasn't there, I was really irritated, cause I wanted to get on the treadmill. So I texted my husband and told him to text the guy and let him know I unlocked the basement door and to just walk in. LOL - I know, I know… but the treadmill is right there, I just didn't want to have to get off and go upstairs and tell him to go around back , and deal with the dogs being super barky and wanting to visit with him, etc… ( he's been here before, we've used him for several years now, to fix all our appliances) So it actually worked out perfectly, he was done in 5 minutes, and I did not have to get off the treadmill !

Anyway, Today is not starting off well, a co-worker brought me in a little debbie nutty bar, and I ate it, and it was yummy… I feel bad, but I'll survive.

@ashleycarole86 Here are my steps…late again. Just for the monthly record. At least I am logging my food daily. That’s a win. I WILL make it on time this week.

I am blown away by this teams steps! Double digit thousands like mad. Great job everyone.

@wiftcan “Luckily, I am equipped with giving myself grace and appreciating every day that I can improve from the previous day”

I love this!!! What a great statement for all of us to tell ourselves. Thank you.

Yinka so glad to hear your mom was ok. How wonderful to have siblings to work together and share in your mother’s care. That is really special.

Vikki - I love your determination to get that treadmill workout done uninterrupted. You go girl!!

@jguidi Thanks for the coffee protein shake recipe. I’ve been adding protein powder to things. I’m going try that. 😊

@conleywoods Glad to hear you are not pre diabetic. That’s great news.

I have been logging my food well and I’m proud of my food choices. Mostly. Need to work on those steps more. However, this weeks PT exercises for my hip seem to be helping. It might also help that I’m actually doing them.

I’ve been organizing things. It’s almost back to school time. Gotta get things done.

    Have a great day everyone!

    Evening Friends,

1st of all, I want to say a big thank you for all of your lovely supportive comments about my mum. She's such an amazing, clever and funny woman that we often forget that she's getting older. Anyway, when I called her last night she was in great spirits. I've found a good alarm system for her and we have all agreed on a rota system for visiting (with and without grandchildren).

Yesterday was good with food (lentil chilli in baked potato was a new recipe which I think that I enjoyed more than Ben did!) And I did a tough workout from Caroline Girvan's Epic 3 series. It makes me think of @whitfcan and your back injury. Any kind of back pain is to be taken seriously. I hope you heal and get it back to normal. I'm sure you will. I hurt my back a couple of years ago and I just had to put in the time and allow it to heal - which it did, eventually.

I went to Choir last night which was a lot of fun.

This morning Ben had a home visit from one of the Respiratory Nurses. She was very happy with his progress.

I went out with my reading group for lunch and it turns out that I was the only one (out of 8) who enjoyed it the last book!

Came home and did some work - mostly my digital Skills Tutor work, prepping new courses for the new term.

@Gidgitgoescrzy I loved reading of your tenacity in completing your time on the treadmill, uninterrupted!

@YinxFed glad your mom is doing well and in good spirits!

@Gidgitgoescrzy I love those bars, can't be anywhere near them!

@MaddawgMadsen good luck on the relay race! Let us know how it goes!

Busy week this week. So glad today finally calmed down at work! At the gym then a few errands. Weight was down 0.6 this week. That's a win for me!

My morning flight was cancelled so I am bumming around the house waiting for my rebooked flight in the late afternoon. I have made the most of it by getting on the Peloton. I will be back home from Vancouver on Sunday night. If I have time to check in from vacay, I will. Enjoy the weekend!

Hi! I weighed 221.4 today. I think I may wait and see if I can be green tomorrow. I’ll let you know in the morning.

Water has been good. I have met my step goal 4x this week. Still logging. Next step, make exercise a habit. That’s a big one for me.

I found out today that my insurance has a new change. NOOM is free under the plan. I think I’m going to try it. Why not? I only have weight to lose. Have any of you tried it? I think I remember Kristi did.

I set another butterfly free today. And…found 8 more baby caterpillars while I was looking for food for my big caterpillars. So here I go again.

Hope everyone is making good choices today.

@micki48 how great that you have free access to NOOM! I didn't realize insurance might cover that, I'll have to look into my own plan. Let us know if you like it. I love hearing your butterfly updates BTW, I'm sure they are so grateful for your kindness.

@ashleycarole86 what a pain having your flight canceled 😞 I hope you enjoy your trip when you're finally able to go.

@conleywoods nice weigh in! It sounds like the cgm is giving you some great health insights. I remember when I was tracking my blood glucose during pregnancy it was shocking sometimes how certain foods would effect me. Glucose levels can be so finicky though, what causes a spike today might be fine tomorrow or if you have it in the evening that's usually better than the morning. Hopefully your health coach can help out!

Yesterday was a busy day, my sister in-law and I took our daughters (hers is 11mos. and mine is 17mos.) on a little vacation at the same cabin I stayed at last month with my family. I had a lot of packing to do yesterday, and before I left I helped a bit with carrying stuff upstairs for the bathroom reno. We swam in Lake Huron for a little while but it was cold! Our babies were not impressed lol. Hopefully we'll get more of an opportunity to swim before we head home on Sunday.

Food choices yesterday were OK until after dinner, we decided to have cake for dessert. It was a conscious choice, a little treat every now and then is OK, I just can't let it become a habit.

    Greetings Friends!

@jguldi11 Thank you for drawing such a charming picture of two baby girls on your cabin holiday!

@micki48 I love your butterfly tales. I'm not in the least bit surprised that you take it upon yourself to "release" them whenever you can!

I tried Noom a couple of years ago. I thought it was a bit "meh!" But that was a couple of years ago - it could have improved since then. And as it's covered on your insurance, I'd definitely give it a look if I were you. I recall it being a little bit too much more money than I was willing to pay each month.

@ashleycarole86 Yay - the peleton's back! I do enjoy your regular exercise updates on the peleton.

Well it's Saturday morning and I'm taking it easy today. Some light housework, dropping Ben off to a local pub where he's having lunch with his nephew, and then I can potter around the house and maybe do a bit of quilting before he comes home.

I bought a new book this week - Fit at 50 (although I have an extra 12 years on that) - written by the woman behind @CarolinesCircuits on Instagram. I like her exercises and as I'm coming to the end of Caroline Girvan's (I know, another Caroline!) Epic 3 series, I can slot into this Caroline's 6-week program. I'm still following Scott Baptie's recipes, so I plan to mix the two.

I'll let you know how I get on.

And I have discovered that the only way I get anywhere near close to my water targets is by using a straw! Anyone else notice that? I drink so much water if I just suck it up!

Anyway - Off to make scrambled eggs and salmon for brunch.
