Nice runs last night Ceci and Laura and good getting out of bed this morning Romy, especially when you didn't feel like it. You tried. Thats the biggest thing.

I ran 5k at noon today during lunch. It was an okay run in that I had no particular problems with it. It confirmed to me though that I really prefer running at dawn or dusk. The bright light bothers me when I run, even though my glasses automatically darken. I had thought this before, but partially blamed my less liking of the noon runs with it being warmer, but today was fine as far as temps. I still didn't like it. No dog either, which is also a strike against the noon run. I also find that I like running where I know ehere I'm going. The plan was to run in one direction for half the distance and then run back, but I kept running into not so good running areas and the run turned into three spurs, up and back from the entrance to the complex where I work. Up until I couldn't run any more then back, then up another direction that I thought might work, hit another dead end, and back, and then again for the third time. Also didn't like the having to change into running clothes and then back into work clothes. I'm going to try hard to schedule runs before or after the work day.

Today I learned a hard lesson, it is best to take a rest day after long runs. Yesterday I ran 7 miles, today I attempted 4.5. I got it done, but it was ugly. I'm not going to make that mistake again.

Sounds likes some great runs, some struggles and some lessons... but what an awesome group to keep plugging on. You all keep me motivated and inspired!

4.5 miles for me today, after two rest days from a half-marathon of soccer, running and hiking Saturday. It was probably the best run of my life. Not easy, but as close to smooth, consistent, and with confidence as I've ever known. I'm pumped.

10k for me Saturday! I'm ready and nervous.

I went out last night with the local Big Peach Running Co group run. That was only my 3rd run since being cleared by the DR last week. I did 40 minutes of walk/run intervals (3-min walk + 2-min run) for a total of 3.2 miles at 12 min/mile avg pace. My hip was a little sore but never got worse during the run. Thursday I change the intervals to 2-min walk / 3-min run and do that for a week before seeing the DR again. She seems to think I'll be ready for my 10-mile race on 10/27 and my half marathon on Thanksgiving. But I will definitely miss the AllState half in two weeks. I'll be cheering on my wife in that race.

Good job for finishing. Sometimes you do what you have to do, but those runs suck.

Love those runs! I almost had one of those last night, except for the other 8 miles.

You are so prepared for your 10k. I know that you will do yourself proud.

Glad you're out again, Tim. I hope your wife has a good race and looking forward to hearing how you do with your two upcoming ones. Will she be running them too?

Thanks! On 10/27 my wife will be running the Atlanta Marathon. They have a 10-mile race which runs the last 10 miles of the marathon course so that's what I'll be doing (hopefully). We will both be running the same half marathon on Thanksgiving but I'm sure she'll be way ahead of me. The only other thing we have scheduled right now is the Publix Marathon in March 2014. She'll be running the full marathon and I'll be running the half (so glad I didn't sign up for the full!). We'll probably do a couple of 5K's and 10K's between now and then too.

Yesterday was a bicycle day- made almost 17 miles.

    Today I ran intervals.

Tomorrow will be a bicycle day, Friday rest, 5k on Saturday.

I found a local 10k in November, guess I'll sign up for that.

Good luck with the 10K, Jessiekanga and to Tim for what sounds like an exhausting round of races!

I was supposed to run this morning but had a small surgical procedure yesterday and woke up feeling so incredibly rough I canned it until tomorrow when hopefully I'll be springing out of bed and eager to get my shoes on ..... hopefully!

Sad as it sounds, I've been looking at Google maps of where I'm going on holiday on Saturday to see if there are any trails I can run that don't involve a 1:4 gradient or a narrow country road - worked out a 4k loop that I can probably do without getting knocked down by a coach full of tourists or having to take a rope for the really steep bits. I'll break the good news to my husband once we're on the road :)

Lots of great things going on here since I checked in last!

Yamsteroo I hope you heal quickly! I use Endomondo's website a lot to plot my routes as my runs get longer. I like to visualize in my head where I'm going to hit the mile markers and have an idea where I'm going to end up. If that shows elevation I haven't figured that out so I need to check into that.

Jessiekanga good luck with your 10K! I will be attempting to run a distance of 10K for the first time on Saturday so I will be thinking about you and using you as inspiration to get it done! You've worked hard and you're going to do great.

Today was a 2 mile run. I usually do hills, but decided instead to see how fast I can run 2 miles. Not a dead sprint, obviously, but ran as fast as I thought I could and still finish. My HRM came today so I used that, and I was startled by how high my heart rate was, so I'm going to go ahead and say I didn't need to run any faster. First mile was 11:14 and second was 11:04. My Garmin showed I was a few seconds slower overall but when I dug in a little deeper my "moving time" was identical to Endomondo's splits, so the extra seconds were from hitting the timer button before I actually started running and the fact that I keep hitting the wrong button to stop the timer. I will eventually figure out it's on the top right not the bottom right.

Your legs must have been exhausted by the end of that 4.5!

  • Week 2 Day 1 of Run Double's B210k accomplished today. My pace seems to be getting a wee bit faster again. It took a hit when the humidity changed from SoCal to SoTex but I'm adjusting.

Great job! Humidity just kills my runs, so you have my sympathies. I'm in northern Minnesota so it's already getting a lot cooler here. It was 50, foggy and lightly misting during my run last night.

I'm doing the Hal Higdon 10k Novice program. I usually run on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but I had to mix up the days a bit this week since I have my first 5k on Sunday. I did the 2.5 mile run on Monday, and the 3 mile run on Wednesday. I wanted to save the 2 mile for the last run before my 5k. I'm also doing body weight exercises for my strength training and a stationary bike for cross training. In a couple more weeks the pool at the local high school will be open twice a week for lap swimming. I wasn't very good about getting in other exercise when going through C25K, something I'm working on changing.

5°C today and 91% humidity, had to wear long sleeves! Ran an easy 5k, was still dark when I headed out and there are no lights on my route so running through the woods was interesting.

Got my race pack today, so excited! Got my soup and roll voucher, lol!

Today I planned a 4.5 m run, but I only made it a .5 mile. I had this pain in the back of my calf down to my ankle. It persisted and so I stopped the run and limped home. I have flat feet and I know I overpronate, but I was fitted for new running shoes back in July. They actually have extra ankle support, which is why I don't get the ankle pain. I am planning to do a half marathon Oct 20th. I have increased my miles quite a bit in the last few weeks, but now I'm worried that this might sideline me indefinitely. I'm not really sure what to do

My rather inexperienced feedback would be ice/rest/ibuprofen first. Stretching and foam roller next. Give yourself a couple rest days and take a decent walk a day before you decide to try your next run. Hope it resolves for you quickly.

I would do what jessiekanga said, and hope it's just cramp. I had really bad cramp in my calves when I increased my mileage too much. Take it easy and plenty of stratching, hope it's not anything serious.

I agree. Rest it, roll it, stretch it, and take it a bit slower the next couple of runs. I hope you recover quickly mrsmalcolm!
