I ran 17 minutes to Kroger to get a Starbucks.
Love it!! Will run for coffee
I finished week 1 on Friday and started week 2 with my first 5k today. Not official time, but I did it in 39:52.0 -
Bragging about a huge running victory: Yesterday morning I went out for the second time with the local ladies running group and A) FINALLY got past 6 miles and somehow got to 6.95 miles with a 9:40 pace! (My ~5.8 mile runs previously were at around 12:00, so that was a serious jump -- all the way down to my 5K race pace.) It was almost all downhill and I definitely walked up the monster hill at the end, but I have been feeling like a rock star since I realized the distance/pace. My legs are sore today, but every time they twinge, I grin like a big ol' idiot remembering what I accomplished to make them sore. I also used my extra calories yesterday on ice cream, and it was awesome!
Fast pace, I'm jealous! Well done0 -

That is crazy fast, especially for that distance!0 -
I ran 17 minutes to Kroger to get a Starbucks. I have another 28 minutes left to my run, but this coffee is hot. How long before the first and second halves of a run before it officially becomes 2?
Oh great. A woman with a 13.1 sticker just pulled in the parking lot. Way to make me feel like a slacker...
That really made me laugh!
Runners turn into vampires, maybe. Direct sunlight breaks me every time.
This made me laugh too, but I also agree with it.0 -

Oh, I commented on other's post, but forgot to do my own last night. This weekend I was at a dog event (Barnhunt Test) and so was on my feet all day, both Saturday and Sunday. No running, but walking and standing for most of the time I was there. I followed it up with my long run last night. It was supposed to be 5.5 miles according to the Hal Higdon plan, but I really didn't feel like going that far last night, so I backed to 5 miles, which I had done last Sunday. My other reasoning for backing down a bit was that I had done two 5k runs last week rather than the plan's 3 mile and 2 mile runs.
While I enjoyed the run, as did Fells, the last half mile was really hard. My IT band (right leg) started aching, followed by my knee on that side complaining. We completed the 5 miles and followed it with a long walk cooldown which helped a lot.
I have decided now though that this week will be an easy week and I'm just going to do three 5k runs (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday). I am in charge of running a K9 Nosework Test next weekend and will be on my feet constantly for two and a half days. Doing a 5k just before it starts and another when it's over should be enough to tide me over. I will get back on the program the following week and do the two 5k and the 5.5 mile runs.0 -

Yes. Three 5ks should be an easy week :noway: Sounds like you need an icebath and some quality time with a roller.0 -
You guys are doing great! I love reading everyone's updates!
Saturday I ran in my 2nd ever official 5k. They haven't posted the official results yet, but according to MapMyRun, I ran 3.17 mi in 31:39 with an average pace of 9:59!
I placed 2nd in my age group, so I now have a running medal!
I am pushing myself on the bicycle to prep for the Tour de Cure in a couple of weeks. I rode 17 miles on Thursday evening and 40 miles on Sunday.0 -

Wow. Wow. Wow. I think I need to create an "Aspiring to Bridge to 10k" group...0 -

I just love that you have "3 5k's" and "easy week" in the same sentence. I am smiling so broadly right now.
Rock on, and take it easy with the IT stuff... take good care.0 -
I have taken a few days off to give my ankle a rest. The Half is just 4 weeks away. I don't think it is feasible at this point. There is a 5K during that event and I plan to run that and hopefully improve my time. I think I tried to do too much too soon. I have only been running consistently since April and increasing my miles so much, I was bound to get injured. Next year I can give a Half another shot and I will take my time time with the training.0

I had to take a day off for my ankle too a few weeks back. That first 7 mile run kicked my butt and I've been riding the edge of my endurance ever since. That distance is no joke. I'm not 100% sure that I'm capable of it myself.0 -

Add me to the grinning hi-5's over the easy 3 5K's! Great job!0 -

Way to go, both and the running and biking! I'm totally jealous of your hardware!0 -
Today's run sucked. That is all. I will be back after my stretch & some quality time with my foam roller to take a better look at all the happy news on this post from today!0
-
btsinmd, you rock. Three 5Ks in a week is not slacking off. Listen to your body though, and work on those IT bands. Mine got so bad I was limping during the day. Had to really get committed to my foam roller to work that out.
Ceci, I don’t even have the words. Amazing job running sub-10 minute miles! So glad you got a metal for it to memorialize that run.
mrsmalcom, I’m sorry to hear that your ankle has set back your plans to run the half this year, but like I said to btsinmd you have to listen to your body. I love your spirit that you’re already looking ahead to next year.0 -
(It's fun to read everyone's posts. And ya'll are getting so much faster.)0

Sorry to hear that! I hope you recover soon. Yes, it's probably better to hold off on the half for now. I know the feeling - I am sitting out what was going to be my first half in 2 weeks. I am thinking about doing the 5K instead but will wait to decide when we pick up our packets the day before the race.0 -
Monday evening run in "my" National Park. The weather was perfect! The deer and squirrels were playing. It was a great run!
I actually ran a couple of minutes into the cool down.0 -
I really enjoy reading all the posts. Nice running for all of you. Sorry, mrsmalcom about the ankle. I hope that the 5k goes well.
Ran 5k tonight. Got out just a bit later than I expected to, so my last mile was done in the dark. I wore reflective and bright clothing, but wasn't lit up and didn't have the glow collar and leash on Fells, so we were very careful to listen for bikes. It was kindof cool to see the bats flying overhead as we ran. Nice run with no problems with my IT band or knee. This was my fastest 5k so far at 15:29 min/mile. I'm pleased with that since it also including going up and down the big hill.0 -

Nice run, I need to look out my winter running gear now it's going to be dark when I'm running.
Today was supposed to be my last run before my race at the weekend but I've got sore shins. Going to see how they are and maybe run tomorrow or Friday instead. Instead of going for a run I studied the route for my race. The first few hundred metres are uphill (but less than a 10m rise) and the next 8k is downhill!! The final 2k is dead flat. I'm hoping for a good time, but I know I will have trouble beating it at another race, lol! I will just have to come back next year to better it.0 -
Had an awesome group run with the local running store last night. It was their 2nd anniversary of that location and they really organized a nice event. Adidas, Brooks, Hoka, Nike, ASICS, and Mizuno were all there with lots of shoes to test drive. And there was cake. LOTS of cake! There had to be over 300 people there. I ran 3.4 miles at a 9:06 min/mile pace and my hip felt pretty good. A little sore for the first 5 minutes but the pain faded away as I got warmed up. I guess the thought of all that cake waiting for me caused me to pick up the pace faster than I planned. I go back to the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up visit. Can't wait to tell her about my running progress. I plan to do a 5-mile long run this weekend (doing run/walk intervals) and increase that one mile each week. Hopefully the doctor agrees with my plan. That should get me pretty well prepared for my upcoming races.0

Sounds like a fun fast race, Romy! Good luck!
Tim, sounds like you had a fun time too. I'll have to look at what running groups there are around here. Maybe they have cake and doughnuts too.

Wasn't it awesome? And it started to mist a little right when I finished my run.0
