Hello. Sept 21, 2023 my blood sugar was 580, a1c was 11. I weighed almost 300. Today my blood sugar gar is always under 100. Elevated to 118 sometimes after eating. My current a1c is 4.6. Times day I weigh 200. I’m a 64 yr old, 5’6” female. Fasting insulin test was 61, now 16. Doctor goal is under 5.

My doctor put me on a strict ketovore diet. No more than 20 grams of total carbs per day and started me on a semaglutide injection weekly. Plus berberine.

The injection has helped a lot with food noise and the ketovore diet with control as well. I still have 60 or so more pounds to lose. It’s a journey to get healthy. It’s hard. My biggest struggle has been emotional feelings about food and a husband who is a sugar addict.

    Anyway, hello all!

hi I'm Vicki and admittedly have not taken the diagnosis seriously until I was in the ER with very high blood pressure. My focus is eating healthy and low carb. It's been about a month and is going well so far. I have to stay motivated which is usually my problem but one day at a time! I have lost a few pounds which has been a plus.

Thanks for being a supportive group!

I can see the ER visit as a wakeup call. I have found that low carb works for me. I have been doing it since 2016.

    Welcome!

I’m new to MyFitnessPal and the Type 2 diabetes community. I joined because I am tired of being a wreck for weeks before my endocrinologist appointments. I also became a grandmother this year and this little guy is my motivation to improve my health.

Doing pretty well. I am Type 2, and I am currently keeping my A1C in the low 6's with diet.

Hi. My name is Terry Schock. I am 57. Bim married with 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren. I am a longtime type 2 diabetic and I recently developed lymphedema in my right leg and my diabetes has been really affecting it. My doctors want me to try the Mediterranean diet and in addition give up all foods and drinks with any kind of sugar substitute and no caffeine. Today was my first day trying and it was interesting. It's going to be complicated but I am really trying. I see a lymphedema therapist twice a week and workout in our gym pool twice a week to try and build some strength back. I look forward to getting to know you all on this journey.

Welcome! That giving up caffeine would be a tough one for me.

    Glad you are here!

The first 72 hours of no caffeine i hated everything including the way my family breathed…..lol. It does pass but it was brutal. My sugars improved some and so did my lymphedema. So, it was worth it. Hardest thing ever though. Thank you for the welcome 2t9nty.

I gave up caffeine for Lent one year because it seemed like a thing to do. I had bad headaches for two weeks. You seem to have gotten off a little easier.

    Improvement is a good thing.

I had the headaches for those first 4 days but thankfully it got better. I'm definitely feeling better now that the withdrawal is over. Thank you for the encouragement.

Getting the lymphedema under control will be a big thing.

The improved bg readings are always good too!
