JULY 2014 - Move Your @ss Challenge

Well I attempted to ride my first half century. I was riding my usual pal, my mountain bike. I failed. In the first 13 miles I went down 3 times, my shoe cleats were a total nightmare. In the 3 falls I pulled a muscle in my left hip. I rode an additional 25 miles before the twisted shoe cleat, pain and heat exhaustion finally claimed me. I was 14 miles short. My son finished the event, but medically they would not let me continue, not that I would have gotten far anyway. At lease I was able to ride across the finish line and get my cancer survivor gift. I am feeling real low today.
Anaconda, I ride a mountain bike exclusively, and I understand that it is a beast of a bike....really. The fact that you rode it 38 miles in the heat, with falls and muscle pulls, means that you have guts to get out there. I hope you're feeling better today. :flowerforyou:0 -

Well its Monday and I am sure feeling it now. I am pretty sore, but will live. Plan on a leg stretcher short ride later today. Thanks for the encouragement, I really needed it.0 -
Not reporting mileage yet, just want to send out some thanks to all the people that posted encouraging messages. Believe me as I sit here sore as anything, it sure made me realize I did accomplish something amazing on Saturday in the Tour Des Chutes. I made 36 miles at a starting elevation of 3200 feet, 100 degrees out, had mechanical problems, fell a few times and I survived all on my mountain bike. I was transported to the finish line, but I made them stop, unload my bike and I rode, barely the last quarter mile and crossed the finish line. Not bad for a 57 year old gal. Thank you Sunflower9194, Kar328, Sufferlandria, Clepant, Meg2166, Taxmom9093, Verdemujer, Phytogurl and Ceci_O_K. I survived cancer 2x, I should be able to go back next year and conquer this ultimate challenge.0

It's time to enter some riding date. After the beating I took in the bike tour Saturday, I took a short limbering up bike ride today. I found that more things hurt today now that the adrenalin rush is wore off. Oh well, will keep it short and sweet this week. Ended the calendar week on a bruised and battered note.

ANACONDA469 - What an ordeal you encountered!!! Yet you still pushed through the pain .... several times. I definitely agree with everyone else that you have nothing to feel defeated about. You gave it one helluva shot and you should be proud. :drinker: Now you know what to watch out for and train for for next year.

So this is the point in the month that some of you may be looking at your goal and looking at your progress and thinking "this is NOT going to happen. I QUIT  " DON'T. Just don't quit. I know it gets frustrating seeing so much success and you aren't feeling so successful yourself. First, remember that most of us don't post when we don't move. So you are not alone in your struggles. Really.:flowerforyou: Second, progress is personal. My goals have increased since I began this challenge last year, but I know my 100 to 150 miles a month is not a possibility for some others. That's OK. Focus on your own goals and get as close as you can. And when you stumble (you will, I have and I don't know anyone who hasn't at least once) you can just get back up and start moving again. Just keep trying and keep moving. :flowerforyou: We will be here cheering you on. :flowerforyou:
I'm not ignoring all the good that's going on in the group here. I just know that sometimes, you just need a hug and a push.
(Hey Dave, you may need to keep this and hit me over the head with it next January through April. )0 -
