    Juliet,
I sprained my ankle in August. I was unable to swim for a few months after. I could feel pain in my ankle when not even kicking. I ended up using a pull buoy most of the time and that helped once I got back into swimming.

On Thursday - speedwork and improving my breaststroke. Since I am in town this weekend I will have early Saturday morning workout.

1100 m in swim lessons last night. 60 mins - Lots of drills.
I still drop my left elbow, need to do more zipper drills to get the muscle memory.
Working on lengthen the stroke/glide and improving the kick. Ankle still wonky but it will come around.
I have come to the conclusion that I have been miss counting my lengths/meters. If I was able to do 1100 meters of drills with instructional breaks then I am doing way more when I get in the lane with the pack and make circles. I am sure I seen someone reference a lap/length counter for the hand - anyone remember?
That's a better problem to have i.e. That you were doing more laps than you thought and not the other way around.
Yes I've heard lots of people talk about lap counters - have seen them on amazon pretty cheap! The ones that go on a finger!

    Yes, 2 miles @‌ 66 minutes
I use a product called Sport Count to keep track of my laps.
Get the one that does time and counts laps around $23.

@ashenriver thanks for the pull buoy idea to take the load off the ankle. Didn't even think of that. Was eliminating flip turns and trying not to push off from the walls. Now I can get some chlorine time and not tweak the ankle.

Spring Training has begun. No more football.
So swing units are now Walkoff Home Runs (WHR)
So today was 50 WHR's (For those in the UK that's 50x120 yards)

Gutzy, I don't have a clue what you're talking about!
1650 in ~25 minutes then a 400 kick set. Been out of the water for about four years and I love getting back in!

Wish I could jump back in after that long with such blazing fast times! Good stuff
During football season my swims are # of football fields (100 yards)

During baseball season I relate it to walk-off home runs. Walk off home run is 120 yards around the baseball diamond :)

    Gongrats Gutzy! That's amazing.

I didn't swim my regular laps today - instead I spent 2 hours with an 8yo who needed to practice his treading water (and got distracted by water basketball and slides).

    1200m crawl. 400m drills.
Zippers on weak side breathing and long glides. 27 strokes 50M.
Went for a Sunday drive 2hrs one way for a little shopping-winter break.
Strange how the first stop was at my favorite pool / rec center
    8 - 50m lanes 3m/9ft deep.
    10 - 50m lanes 2m/6ft deep
    8 - 50m lanes 1.3m/ 4 ft deep
20x50m family play area, waterslides, wave rider and 2 that's right 2 Hot Tubs. Weight rm, courts, yoga rms etc.
Used the pullbuoy like ashenriver suggested so I didn't have to kick which took the load off the wonky ankle. Never would of thought a ankle sprain would be bothersome for swimming, running - weight bearing yes.

    @fishgutzy‌ Nice swim.
    @cw106‌ 1km recovery day
@Kida_Adeylne‌ sounds like you had the most fun, which is better than a workout.

    30 min approximately 1.25 km
I have resolved to do sprint intervals every other swim (to contrast with the long swims), and so today was Day 1 of, and my first ever, sprint intervals set.
Let us see where this leads...

AQ, it will help you on both ends - sprints & endurance. That's why when I'm swimming every day I alternate my days where I take out the sets of 1500 free & do IM's, just to mix things up & give my body something different at a different exertion level....

Gutzy, absolutely astounding - great job!!!!

    Juliet, nice swimming!!!!

2.5 km 58 min and I felt much more in control of my technique at my new stroke rate after yesterday's sprints! It almost felt leisurely in comparison to yesterday's frenetic sprint turnover rate!

I was a little lazy yesterday after the 10K the day before. Only managed 110 laps (5km).
Today back to my daily 120 laps (6000 yards)
Working on stretching out my stroke. Managed to get the count per length down to 18, from 24 for about a dozen laps. And 19 to 21 for a big chunk.
