Yes, I wanted tea today. Cold and rainy here and not ice water weather at all. I hope you are feeling better soon.0
-
I often drink ice tea all year round although I've been feeling cold lately (think it's the 25 pounds of fat I've shed?) so ice not appealing. I've been drinking green and also black tea hot. The bad weather has not really shown itself here yet (knock on wood) and I'm grateful for that. Have a new to me car and not sure how it is going to handle in the weather, a little nervous. I felt bad most of the day but went to work this evening because I could not turn down the money for a sub job. Headache now. Heading to bed soon.0

Congratulations on your half way mark Gayle. That is great!
I need some help. I am going the wrong direction. I think the continuing grey with rain is getting to me. I am also unsettled because of starting a 3 day drive on Saturday. I seem to be always hungry and although my logging says the calories are OK, the scales are not going down.
I will check in tomorrow and see what the scale says. And next week I will hopefully be in better mood and shape. I hope it is not raining in South Carolina.
I missed walking for most of this week because it was actively raining and cold every day. Tomorrow promises to be worse with snow showers! I can stand snow but mixed with more rain.????!! Hard to get out.
Sorry to whine. Particularly when you are doing so well.0 -

I've been having the munchies this week too.I think I've figured out some of my problem.I've been eating protein bars which to me is like eating a candy bar.I've decided they trigger my sweet tooth so i'm going to quit buying them.
We're having yucky weather here and i'm not liking it at all.But i'm always grateful God has given me another day.I just turned 68 last week and looking back I wish I'd done some things differently. One would have been to get healthy. Now I just take one day at a time.
Gayle-You are doing great!! I think our body temperature changes when lose weight. We lose some of our insulation, fat. We sure look and feel better though.
Ladies, see you back on here tomorrow.Good luck on the scales.

Marney, focus on the fact that you have lost 7 pounds thus far--that's great! Important, also to keep on reaffirming you goals and why you want to reach them. I think I keep on thinking of my goal weight, keep on looking at my report with the downward trend, keep on thinking of the next small loss I want to see. Yesterday, finally, a friend said that my face really looks different and that I look healthier. That is the first time anyone has said anything about my weight loss. I'm still in my size 18 pants although they fit differently and can wear some tops that I had to quit wearing. Let's all affirm our weight loss goals and our reasons for wanting to be slimmer. Also, you need to get an indoor activity that you can live with during the winter months. Some people do youtube workouts. I think Mary said she watches walking tapes with her gazelle (I need to do that). I find that any sort of moving (grocery shopping, walking around while teaching, etc.) makes a difference on the scale. While you are driving stop at the rest stops and just walk around a little if you can. Walking is an under rated exercise but I think is one that can be done one's whole life so it is golden.0

I saw a great quote yesterday on fb from Growing Bolder: "More wrinkles, fewer doubts. Older body. Younger spirit. Less time. Greater purpose".0
-
I want to get slimmer and healthier because I am clear that I must if I want to still do the things on my bucket list (travel, paint outdoors, give workshops on creating sacred art, be around to see my first grandchild, paint in Monet's Garden) I must. I am 63 and have been feeling sick and tired and have sore feet and knees and sleep issues and much of that can be remedied by eating better and weighing less. I think I can reach my goal weight of 162 pounds by February. My son turns 18 on February 21st so that is a big month for our family.0

Thanks for the boost. Good job you two on this week's effort.
Today wasn't so good with a lot of running around doing final chores, mostly using the car, and eating up what is in the fridge. But.... I have packed my workout gear in my small bag which goes into our overnight stops. We decided to stay at the chains on the highway instead of B&B and the chains all have gyms and pools. So do both our longer stay accommodation. I have the gear and I have the intention.
I want to lose weight so that I feel better, I don't ache as much, my health numbers are good and I can enjoy a more energetic lifestyle. I also want to wear smaller sizes so that I feel more myself again. I know I feel good when I eat well and move more. I will be joining my local community centre gym when I return from my trip and I have a gazelle and an XBox360. By then I will have admitted that winter is here and hopefully the rain will have stopped. Thanks guys.0 -
Oh, great reasons for focusing on your health. Great that you are staying at places where you can be active. I am going to have my son help me move my gazelle out of the garage and to a place where I'll use it. Keep on keeping on guys!0

Hi guys. Feeling a little blah today. Think it is the very cold and gray day. Those snow clouds make me feel like I'm "under the weather". We are supposed to only have one more day of the 19 degrees. And to think that Sunday I was sitting in the Botanic Gardens with just sweatshirt and jeans, drawing while crowds of people milled around commenting on the beautiful weather. Anyway, going to pull myself up the bootstraps tomorrow. Back to my novel. Say, do you weigh your 4 ounces of chicken breast before or after it's cooked?0
-
I really don't know what to say about myself except i'm weak when it comes to food.I've gone to two social events since my last weigh in and have eaten anything I wanted.I haven't even exercised. So I decided I was just going to give up,give MFP a break.Made myself get on the scales and gained 8 lbs.I've gotten hooked on sweets again.I'm so diappointed in myself. At this rate I'll gain all my weight back. This morning is my "i'm going to get my act together"day.I saw this quote on MFP that said"you haven't failed unless you quit trying"I certainly don't want to fail.Day 1again.
I'm glad to see everyone else is doing so good!!

Hi Mary and Gayle,
Those of us who gain weight easily, always have to watch, do have it tough. As you know, Gayle, weather really affects me. I am so glad to be in Virginia golfing for the 3rd day in a row but that cold weather, I left wet and I am sure it is snow now, is coming down with me. Bllllaaaaaahhhhhh! But we can do this! You are an inspiration to me. You are always picking yourself up and driving on. Keep up the good work. I weight my chicken after it is cooked, then I am eating 4 ozs.
Mary, keep on getting back on the band wagon! Don't be disappointed in yourself, you won't be disappointed in a friend, you would say they acted like a human being and give a pep talk. Besides, an eight pound gain would require 28,000 calories over and above the 1200 to 1400 that you body needs per day for the gain to be real and I don't believe you have eating that much in less than a week (8 times 3500, if you want to check my math). So, it is probably salt and water etc and will drop quickly. We never have success without failure, I know that one well. Glad you didn't give up.
I am struggling too. No food scale, only body scale in the fitness centre and so I will be weighing in with clothes. And I am on holidays and I want to splurge! Getting lots of exercise and trying to hold the line. I exercised on the treadmill on Day 1 and my indoor gym shoes gave me a huge blister on top of my foot behind my big toe. Hard to go back. And I just do not believe MFP when it gives more and more calories burn for more time out on the golf course, when in reality, the longer on the course, the more sitting in the cart waiting for the green to clear of people ahead of you. So I am trying to estimate the real calories. With all this estimating, I know the answer will not be too good.
Keep on, keeping on!

Hi Guys, think we have hit the real challenging time--holidays, cold weather. Man.
Mary, I really like what you said:"This morning is my "i'm going to get my act together"day.I saw this quote on MFP that said"you haven't failed unless you quit trying"I certainly don't want to fail.Day 1again". Good for you!
Let me say it along with you so I can hear it too: "You haven't failed unless you quit trying". Yep, today was supposed to be a boot strap day for me but emotional issues with my X and the single digit temps did not help. But I'm not going to quit trying.
Know we are going to probably have some "bumps up" this month and next. Time of the year is a great excuse for me, but we are continuing on this journey to ultimate improved scale and health. Today I wanted to come home, boil all the potatoes in the house and eat a huge bowl of mashed potatoes. Much more alluring, to me, than a bowl of ice cream.
Instead maybe one potato mashed tomorrow. Have really been feeling blue and did comfort myself today with a 700+ calorie breakfast at Village Inn. Actually thought I was being good when I ate it. So broth for the rest of the day.
Marney, can you get a light weight scale that you can fit into your suitcase? Also, how about a step meter instead of counting the hours on the course? I am getting one (I've seen them at walgreen's) this month. Would you guys be up for a daily or weekly step meter challenge once I do?0 -
Great idea! I have a really good step meter at home. Just have to change the batteries. And yes, I think for next golf season, that is a great idea to get a better reading. Maybe while on holidays, I will check other sources on the internet for a better idea. But I would be up for a challenge when I return (after American thanksgiving). I am going to join the gym then.
Yummm potatoes. And good potassium.
A travel scale is a good idea too.
Cold front moving in tomorrow but quite different down south compared to up north.0 -
Well, I checked a number of website sources and I stand corrected. A golfer burns on average 1300 calories a round while riding in a cart. Apparently, the swing uses almost every muscle in the body and a round of golf is over 100 swings. So even without walking with your clubs, it is good exercise.
Maybe I can have another cookie after all!0 -
Oh Marney, I'm sorry I teased you about counting hours of exercise while riding in the cart. 1300! Wow! Maybe I'll take up golf so I can have more potatoes, lol.0

Looks like I've lost 15.1. Hey! I made my 15!!!! I'm hoping to get to 20 lost or better by January 1. I've really been struggling a bit this week. Not feeling as in charge of my food and as clear about my goals for the future as I have been. Craving winter food, feeling cold and miserable in general. Feeling better today, the cold snap is over for now and it's a sunny day. Buying my step meter today.
Marney: good for you throwing away the cookies despite your discovery about calories burned with a gold swing! Good for you for the loss!
Mary: hang in there! Marney's right that the bumps up are all part of the journey. "You only fail if you do not try" love that. We will take the number we get on January 1. And know we will be better off than when we started. So many seniors are just letting themselves get fatter and fatter and that's not us!! I'm so proud of us! We are working on it, making gradual progress.0 -
Great job Gayle. You have your 15, onwards to 20! And you are almost into a new decade too. Proud of you. Don't let the weather get to you. I know I was whining about the weather earlier in the month and you had lots of ideas. Gazelles and step counters here we come. Or put on some music and dance. I remember my mum always insisted on 20 minutes a day outside, even in winter to lift spirits and get fresh air. It did work most of the time. We can do this! Challenges are simply that, challenges to overcome.
And Mary and I are still trucking along. Not stopping is a success in this effort.0 -
Do you guys know how important you are to my progress? Super Important! I think that supportive companions on this journey towards improved health is making the difference for me. I've lost and gained those 10 or 20 pounds on weight watchers and lots of other plans. This time I'm going to make it all the way to goal, I just know it, can see it--because of you keeping me accountable. Thanks, I am so grateful!0
-
Right back at you!
I was on the road today for 8 hours but I am under my calorie count with no exercise but good food. Yeah!0 -
Good for you Marney!!0
-
Gayle-you are doing fantastic!!Already lost your 15 lbs plus some.Awesome.You are such a inspiration.
Marney-thank you for helping me get back on track.you're right,we all have our ups and downs. And to be honest I haven't been trying as hard as I should. It's so easy to get lazy and get back into old habits.
