I ran Week 2 Day 1 last night. The worst of it was definitely my feet... some new blisters let me know that it is high time I get myself some new running shoes. I'll be sad to surrender these ones to the bin, because they were my first ever pair of REAL running shoes. I'm going tomorrow to get myself properly fitted at a running store, which is another first for me!

Anyway, last night I ran 45 minutes total (apart from walking warmup and cooldown) on an indoor track and I didn't measure my distance, but I do think that my starting pace was around 6 mph and toward the end, it was probably around 5 mph or so. And my muscles are VERY sore today, so I must have been doing something right. :) I've never run this far in my life!!!

I am supposed to be starting week two yesterday or today. But, after Saturday's run, both my knee and ankle are killing me. I am not sure what I did. So I am resting and maybe will start it on Thursday. A very smart woman pointed out that I may need new shoes since I have been running in these since August. And I looked at the bottoms and two of my bubbles are burst!

Any advice on how to help this knee heal is greatly appreciated!

I did w2d1 this week after I rested my knee and did well. I slowed my pace and it was less than 4 miles. I did some research and we are supposed to be covering 7K in weeks 2-3. I am going to try to get there tomorrow. I only run intervals once a week and run the other as long runs. Tomorrow is my outside run and I am looking forward to it! How is everyone else doing?

Was supposed to continue with my W2D2 today, as I did W2D1 on the treadmill on Friday. There was so much ice on the ground this morning, I decided to give it a miss. I've also discovered that the treadmill is not going to work for me just yet, I hope to slowly work up to running on it over the winter. Friday's run was actually painful and uncomfortable. That's another reason I moved my run to tomorrow, my knees hurt since that experience. It is supposed to go up to plus 4 degrees tomorrow, so it should be nice for a run. Good luck all on your week 2 runs!

Week 2 Day 1, Attempt 1. Not so good today! I felt achey before I started and just never hit a comfortable rythmn and then the front of my right thigh started to cramp up (whatever that muscle is called :) ) So I ended up walking more than 1/3 of it. I won't have time to spare until Thursday, so I'll give it another go then. I've been really hungry the last few days too, so I'm going to eat a bit over my normal net today if I'm still hungry tonight.
Bees - BRRRR. Good luck with tomorrow's run.
    scsedey - Well done!

Yep, sounds like you need some new running shoes but I know how you feel ( I too don't want to throw out my 1rst pair of running shoes even though they are causing me pain).
    Great job running 45 min!!!

Super job listening to your body and taking some rest.
    Glad your knee feels better.
    Great job with Day 2!!!

I hope you aren't coming down with something, TX.
Ouch about the thigh cramp. I am glad you walked it and didn't injure it by pushing too hard.
Resting it over the next few busy days will probably be best.
Love you go-getter attitude....you always just set your sights on the next opportunity and that is inspirational.
Love the new profile pic too !!! You are looking really GREAT!

Wow! Great start to the week everybody!

I did W2 D1 today, was hoping to hit the 5 mile mark but got a stitch at the end of my first 15 minute stretch, so had to walk an extra couple of minutes, also leading up to that point my pace was a lot slower! Still....I'm certain it will improve throughout the week.

Lovely day here, crisp but sunny, just enough of a breeze to keep me cool, too frosty / icy to run first thing so I had to wait a bit.

Did my B210K Week 2 Day 1 run today. I'm a slow runner and today I was a little off my game....I think I was cautious to go super fast because I didn't want to get winded. So my total distance was 4.17 miles...a personal best for me, so I feel good about that, but I know it's a long way off from the goal.

Anyway, the first two intervals felt really good, but the last one was a real struggle for about the first 8 or so minutes....then all of the sudden I must have "pushed through it" because then I picked up speed and felt really good. Even ran a bit of the cooldown portion.

Beautiful sunny day today but CCCCCOOOLD....took a while before I felt warm. I think it was 28 here this morning when I started out.

Just got back from W2D2. I really paid the price for a bad weekend, food wise. My first run was soooooooo slow, I might as well have been walking. After completing the run, I caught my second wind and decided to speed things up. By the time I heard "cool down" I was really in a groove so I just kept running all the way home. It only got up as high as 2 degrees today, so getting me out of the house almost took an act of Parliament, lol:) But, once I got going and warmed up, I was glad I did it. Hope everyone is doing great!

    Good going!!

  • B210K Week 2 Day 1 - COMPLETE!!

Only in the 30's this AM when we headed out but that is better than the teens so I won't complain.
The first interval seemed the hardest but that is normal for me.
The second interval was at the Park around the lake so it went well.
The third interval was heading home and my 13yo stopped at the 15min mark but I went ahead and pushed on through until 20 mins was up.
Cool down was good and a long stretch felt good.
Overall I am happy with today's run.

    Great job everyone!

    Keep pushing forward....

You rock for getting out there! I was snug in bed and have to run tonight at the gym instead! I had a lot of knee problems last week, but I got my new shoes today. I didn't run w2d3 on saturday, I just ran a 5k, since I didn't want to torture my knees. Hopefully my new shoes will make the difference tonight!

I think the new shoes ( once broken in ) will help a lot.
    Have a good run!!

Well, this has started out as a weird type of day. I stepped out my front door to take my dog to the groomers, lost my footing, and slid all the way down the walk to the sidewalk. My poor little dog was tangled in my legs, and I looked up to see my neighbor staring at me with what can only be described as a look of horror and amusement rolled into one. My ego is more bruised than my body, but still, what a way to start the day. I ended up driving to the groomers instead of walking, and my truck hit a patch of black ice, nearly taking out the car in front of me. Methinks that I will not tempt the weather gods any more today, and will be hitting the treadmill instead of the road, lol! Have a great day everyone:)

    OUCH!
As one that is prone to falling down ( at random moments in dry conditions ) I can feel your pain and embarrassment.
So glad you are ok and didn't hurt anything too badly and you didn't have a car accident either.
That ice is tricky stuff and can cause a lot of damage.
BE SAFE and take your time and give yourself lots of room.
Hope you are up to exercising - Me, I would be soaking in a hot tub about now...lol

    Yikes stay safe people!

I did my week 2 run 1 tonight and it felt easy breezy! And Runkeeper was acting a bit crazy so I ended up doing a bit of extra running. I might try skipping ahead to week 3 for my next run and see if I can manage it. If not, I'll make my 3rd run of the week a week 2 run again LOL. I seriously felt like I coudl just do the whole 1hr run tonight! Haha!

Keep up the awesome running everyone! :D

Well, today was a BIG FAIL!

I had a slight twinge in my back when I set off, so told myself that if I couldn't walk it off, or it got worse, I would turn back. Throughout the warm up, it felt like running would help it some, so I pressed on and the 1st interval was fine, although I was careful to take it really steady.

Got 1/2 way through the 2nd interval, and therefore, 1/2 way through the run and therefore the farthest point from home....my back suddenly jarred - very sharp pain, which thankfully went as fast as it came, but it scared me enough to not want to risk running any more.

Walked all the way home, was very suitably dressed for running, was bloody freezing walking! It started raining, I felt miserable.....not good!

Not sure now whether I might repeat this week (because Monday's run wasn't great), or just write it off as a bad 'un and start afresh with wk 3....might see how Friday's run goes (if my back's better!)

Note to self: Carry money for emergency bus fare - is no fun running along your local bus route and not having any money to board any of the three buses I could have caught part way home!

Finished my second non-stop 10K early this morning. If feelings alone are anything to go by, it was my best run ever. Pace steady throughout, bit of a 'kick' at the end, a minute and 20 secs off monday's time, bright and sunny weather, no 'twinge' of the knee etc. I'm still awash with endorphins so positively glowing!
