Week 2

Week 2! I started it on Saturday morning. It was HOT outside (even at 9 a.m.) so it was especially difficult, but I managed to finish it. My pace was a bit off at about 11'00"/mile. I ran with my husband, who hasn't run in like 3 weeks. I think he had a bit harder time than I did.
I am going to run W2D2 tomorrow morning before work. It will be too hot at lunch to go. Will report back on how it goes!0 -
I ran W2D2 today at 5:45 a.m. It's been too hot to run later than 8 a.m. or so. I had a very difficult time on the final 15 minute segment, but got my second wind shortly after starting it, so I was able to finish pretty strong. My pace was a bit better than Saturday, around 10'45"/mile with warm up & cool down included. I went 5.21 miles with WU & CD included (I think my run segments totaled up to 4.4 miles).
I'm planning to run on the 4th, first thing in the morning. My husband said he'd come on the run with me. It's much easier to run with someone, I think, although that typically means I don't get to listen to my music. But misery loves company, so I like having my husband with me :]
Will report back on the 4th after I close out W2!0 -
A lot of people heading onto week 3! You are all doing great, keep up the good work0

I'm behind but I finished W2D1 yesterday. I was going 30-40 min runs with my boyfriend before going swimming so I wasn't following the program consistently. I finally got under a 9-minute mile though. Nice to see that I am not sooo far behind some of you0

I ran W2D3 on Saturday, but for some reason it didn't record in the training app! It claims I did W1D1. ARGH. I had a really hard time with it, though, so I think I'll use this opportunity to repeat it. I have ballet tonight so I am planning to run tomorrow, around 11 or so. Before it gets too hot out.
My pace wasn't great, probably about 11'00"/mile. I could tell that I've been drinking too much alcohol - it really slows me down and makes the run more tiring. I had a great weekend but am cutting back on fun this week :]
I would ideally like to continue running 3x/week, but with ballet 2x/week, I am finding myself running 2x/week instead. I get really bored after half an hour, so these hour long runs are killing my motivation. :[ I think I need to buy some new music to keep my energy and motivation up.0 -
Just joining in the training schedule. I've been loitering for a while, and just running since finishing the c25k. It has been nice running without a plan. But I signed up for a 10k in September so it's time to see if I've got the stuff. (I do.) W2D1 check. Tough, but the first day without ridiculous humidity in some time so I could breathe throughout. I decided on the distance version.0

I finished w2d2 this morning in the pouring rain. It wouldn't have been too bad except for my glasses. I ran out of dry things to wipe them off with!
I'm using RunDouble 5 to 10k app, distance version. Today's run was run 2000 yds, walk 170 yds, repeat 4 times plus warm up and cool down.0 -
Great job! I wonder if there's a trick to running in the rain with glasses?0

I finished week 2 while on vacation in Washington, DC and ran a couple of non-app days.
First run was 2.5 miles with my brother (who runs marathons) around his neighborhood.
Second run using the RunDouble app to complete w2d3. Phone shut down during the next to last interval, but I finished as best I could without the app. Ended up walking an extra long cool down because I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood and sort of got lost trying to get back to my brother's house!
Third run was 5.22 miles around the National Mall in DC with my brother. We stopped briefly for photos in front of some monuments and had a walking break around the 4 mile mark, but ended with a pace of 11:44. (I remember not being able to walk that path on several previous visits!)0 -

Finish the first day of week 2 (timed version). Ran four sets of 12 minutes running and 1 minute walking. I had a revelation halfway through and was able to complete this day more easily than I had all of week 1's days.
I realized that I was running a longer time and I was running up a hill during part of it, so why was I trying to run faster too? Through most of the last 5 weeks of C25K I was running on the bike path near my house. I was running to the base of the big hill and then turning around and heading back, That fit my 25, 28, and 30 minute runs quite well. To do week 1 of the 5 to 50k program I was running 40 minutes total, plus the 4 minutes of walking interspersed and the warmup and cool down, so I had to run part way up the hill. To do week 2 today I had to run all the way up the hill. So, I said to myself just to relax into the run and don't worry about speed and I did and the run went well.
My speed was slower than all three of the week 1 days, but I enjoyed the run much more and had no trouble finishing it.0 -
I have to remind myself to slow down!0

Finished Week 2!
I actually did it for four days within 2 weeks. Did days 1 & 2 on Saturday and Sunday last week, then had two smaller runs during the week, then did day 3 twice, yesterday and today, to finish the week. I didn't run all the sets yesterday, just 3 of the 4. I have had re-occurring problems with my IT band over the past 2 1/2 years, not due to running, but to sleeping. Something about the position(s) I sleep and being morbidly obese caused me to injure it. It has gotten much better and rarely bothers me, probably because of my weight loss, but I woke up on Saturday morning with a flare up. I hoped that the warm up walk and during the walking intervals would be enough to stretch it and ease the pain, but it didn't happen. After the third interval, I gave up with running and just walked the rest of the distance. I stretched it out during the rest of the day. This morning I had no problems with it and had a great run.
I'll do a short run on Wednesday and Friday I'll start week 3.;0 -
Don't be afraid to stop the run for a stretch break. One of the c25k newbies taught me that. Sometimes my calves seize up. Instead of hobbling, I just stop, stretch for a few minutes and continue comfortably.0

W2 D1 of Hal Higdon 10K Novice programme. 2.5miles steady pace with a wu/cd walk either end.
The posh college was having a royal visit today so I got diverted part way through when meant I had to head through the woods but not on the trail then back onto a road nearby to loop back home. I think the time evened out ok though as my time was 28.2 for the running section.0 -

Thanks, Iepert - better than this morning, that's for sure!
W2D2 - 2mile run with wu/cd walks. Took the pup with me as she usually enjoys the shorter runs and she was, without doubt, a little *kitten* today! lol
Kept darting left, right, back - any which way but forwards at her normal steady little trot.
Came home with a time of 25.32 for the run section.
I can't do my longer run until Tuesday next week due to rescheduling at work so I *might* be able to squeeze in a re-run of this on Sunday morning just so I have the satisfaction of knowing I can actually do it better - the dog can stay at home this time though lol0 -

That's great! I do my 2 mile runs on Wednesdays and my time isn't getting much better, although a couple weeks ago I switched those to my hill runs so I guess the route is harder. When I was doing 2..5 miles on day 1 I was doing my hill runs that day, but when that bumped up to 3 miles that was too much. I was pretty new to running 3 miles at all, much less with hills.0 -
W2D2 re-run this morning without the mad hound and it went much better.
23.48 mins for the 2mile run section.
That's a good idea to incorporate the hill work into your short run day - I don't think I could do the very hilly route on a long run, or definitely not without having to walk parts of it so maybe I'll take your lead and do it on the 2mile days.
So far, so good and looking forward to run 3 on Tuesday0 -

That was a much better time, almost a full minute per mile quicker. I used to run with my dog but he likes to play tug of war with his lead so I started taking my daughter with me instead! I hope she behaves better on future runs.0 -

Glad to hear it went better! Much easier when you just have to worry about your own running & not also what your dog wants to do too.0 -
Thanks folks, she's normally not too bad and she does enjoy it (though I always run slower when she's with me) but she is easily distracted and loves nothing more than chasing squirrels ..... a regular sight in the woods we run though lol0

W2D3 done this morning - without pup!
3.51 miles in 38.48 mins, a pace of just under 11.06 min mile which makes me very happy
I think I got spurred on a bit as I went out a little later so on the road section there was a queue of traffic waiting to get into the posh college (they start back after summer break today) so I didn't want to look like I was dying and dragging my feet as I passed lol0 -
W2D3 complete! It is nice and cool here today so it was nice to run and get warm. LOL Only 62ish when I went out.0
-
Oooh. I can't wait for 62!0
-
I would call 62 warm, in fact 12°C or warmer is T-shirt weather and anything above 16°C is hot!0
-
72 here today, and virtually no humidity. Divine!0

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who picks up the pace when I have witnesses! I can't even dream about an 11.06 minute mile so that's amazing.0 -

I do that too! I think we all need to start running in really busy streets, our times would rocket!0 -
Maybe set up session where we get chased by bears....0
