Week 2

My knees are still giving me trouble. My cousin who runs a lot pointed out that it may be time for new shoes. So I bought new shoes. I ran in them on Monday- which may not have been a good idea since I took them out of the box on Monday and of course, my toe cramped horribly and my heel has a sharp pulling on the side of it. And my knees feel no better. I ran for the 45 minutes straight but only covered 3.8 miles. I am frustrated! I am stuck in my second week of week 2 because of these knees.
I am icing. I am taking ibuprofen and I am not giving 2 rest days between runs (although I do the bike or elliptical on one of the days). I am worried that it's not going to go away.
Tomorrow is a run day and I am going to run outside and shoot for 4 miles. Running outside is so much easier than the treadmill.
@Russell- that is amazing!
@Becka- we all have days like that. I have stopped running before and walked home. Try not to let it mess with your head. Just wake up on your next run day and try to forget today happened. You will be able to do it!0 -
Becka: I sooo understand the bus fare thing. Also, I once got stuck way the heck out with a sudden downpour of sleet, pulled out my cell phone to call my husband for a lift, only to find I hadn't charged it in days:( No money, no phone, no slicker... Walked home in the sleet and was sick for days. Now, I tuck a five dollar bill in my pocket because, for all my good intentions, I ALWAYS forget to charge my phone, lol!0

Well, today was a BIG FAIL!
I had a slight twinge in my back when I set off, so told myself that if I couldn't walk it off, or it got worse, I would turn back. Throughout the warm up, it felt like running would help it some, so I pressed on and the 1st interval was fine, although I was careful to take it really steady.
Got 1/2 way through the 2nd interval, and therefore, 1/2 way through the run and therefore the farthest point from home....my back suddenly jarred - very sharp pain, which thankfully went as fast as it came, but it scared me enough to not want to risk running any more.
Walked all the way home, was very suitably dressed for running, was bloody freezing walking! It started raining, I felt miserable.....not good!
Not sure now whether I might repeat this week (because Monday's run wasn't great), or just write it off as a bad 'un and start afresh with wk 3....might see how Friday's run goes (if my back's better!)
Note to self: Carry money for emergency bus fare - is no fun running along your local bus route and not having any money to board any of the three buses I could have caught part way home!
[/quote/
Too bad you had a rough run.
Back pain has to be one of the WORST things.
I am glad you walked the rest of the way home and are taking care of it.
Funny about the bus...
I hope your back feels better by Friday.0 -

Finished my second non-stop 10K early this morning. If feelings alone are anything to go by, it was my best run ever. Pace steady throughout, bit of a 'kick' at the end, a minute and 20 secs off monday's time, bright and sunny weather, no 'twinge' of the knee etc. I'm still awash with endorphins so positively glowing!
Amazing!! Really Russell - amazing job!!0 -

I am glad you got new shoes ( I need some desperately ) but they might just need a run or two to break them in.
I hope your next attempt is 100% better.0 -
Well a rainy day all yesterday and all last night. Looked rainy out this AM but the temp was in the 40's so we headed out early and hoped we wouldn't get caught in a downpour.
The first interval was a killer as always.
The second interval was better but I bumped my stopwatch button so not sure if I got in the full 15min. RATS!
The third interval we only could do 10 mins - DANG IT!
So, we decided to do a fourth interval of 10min to wrap it up and we kicked it up a notch too. Rough on the old knees but it kind of felt good.
Started to sprinkle on us during our cool down...
We timed it just right!
Keep pushing forward....0 -
Just awful outside again today, decided to hit the treadmill instead. After about 5 or 6K, my hip started really aching, so I slowed to a walk and finished the day walking. This is a pain I have had before from running on the treadmill. I seem to really struggle on it lately. I find running outside to be much easier. I think it has to do with the artificiality of my stride, you tend to remain very static on a treadmill as opposed to constantly readjusting when you are running on a real road. Do any of you find it easier outside or are having issues with the treadmill?0

I ONLY run outside. Hate the treadmill so I sold it...lol.
I hope you and your treadmill find some common ground soon.0 -
Bees - I try to only run outside. The treadmill makes me crazy! You don't go anywhere! And the last time I ran on a treadmill my knees hurt, but that may have been because I ran the day before. I did think that it was interesting to see what a 5 mph, 6mph etc. felt like though.0

Even though i bombed Week2 Day1, I'm calling tonight's run Day 2. I think I'm starting to figure out how my body runs best. I have to just keep going through the first 10 to 15 minutes. After that, even if it's a hard day I don't want to quit. I'm also not taking my one minute walk at a specific time. Today I did my 5 minute warm-up (actually 6 minutes today), ran for 28 minutes (I was thinking tonight about how just a few weeks ago I was so scared of running for 20 minutes straight), walked for 2, ran for another 21, then walked home. My pace was a bit slower than 2 runs ago, but it felt pretty good. Very happy with 49 minutes of running!0

Another treadmill hater here!!! I"m going to do a search in the threads about running in the snow as I will be away 6 days for Christmas at my Mom's and they live in snow country. I live on the west coast and we RARELY get snow so I have no experience running in it whatsoever.
As far as B210K, I skipped ahead to week 4 for my second run of the week because I found the first one pretty easy and since runkeeper was acting up a bit I was doing a bit of extra running-figured I'd try the longer intervals and I can do it so I'm heading to the week 4 thread.
It's pretty awesome that we are all doing this!!! So excited to be able to run for an hour soon!!0 -
I decided to re-do week two this week and get myself on track. Yesterday I ran 4 miles in 45 and it felt great. My knees felt good and my new shoes felt great. I ran outside which makes such a difference for me. Tomorrow is day 3 for me and near by we have a park with a 1.5 mile loop. Usually my husband and I do 2 loops, but we are going to shoot for 3 tomorrow. Looking forward to it!0

Sorry I am so late to comment on your awesome run TX
You are doing terrific!!!0 -

B210K week 2 day 3 was supposed to be Friday for me but with my left knee still hurting and the craziness of that day, I held off until this AM to do Day 3.
Interval one was killer as usual for me.
Interval two & three I just combined and ran straight through.
Felt pretty good.
Will take Sunday off and try and get this left knee to stop hurting.
Planning to just ride horses tomorrow and take it easy.
Monday will start my Week 3...
Everyone is really doing great and I know this week with Christmas and all will get tricky for all of us to try and get in enough exercise.
I can't wait to be done with the holiday candy making and get it OUT of the house ( we give tins full of the candy as gifts to come family, friends, mailman, etc..).
I have been taste testing way to many and all that sugar makes me sluggish.

So inspiring to read everyone's posts on Week 2. I too find it difficult to use the treadmill so as long as there isn't snow or too much ice out there I'm going to try and stay outside. I'm a little sore today after doing W2D3 yesterday, so I'm going to opt for some yoga today in the hopes it will loosen me up before Week 3 starts tomorrow.
So glad we have this support group doing this together...I felt very alone doing C25K and it's really great to hear about other people's experiences all in the same place with this one. Thanks everyone!0 -
Ready to pick up where I left off last week and complete week 2 tomorrow (which will be weird as its. Monday!)0

My hip pain has completely incapacitated me for the time being. I am doing the rest / ice bit and it seems to be helping. I don't want to risk turning this into something worse, so I'm resting until the 26th. I will be able to keep my mind off running at least while preparing for the holidays. It's hard though, as I look forward to my runs and am really missing them. Also, I getting my new runners for Christmas and a Garmin for my bday, so something to look forward to I guess:) I left off at W2D3, but I'm wondering if this prolonged rest will necessitate a restart? I hope not, maybe I'll just redo week 2, I'll see how the first day back goes. The rest of you are doing so well, keep going and I'll jump back in as soon as I can0

Sorry you're not good, I think you're right to rest up though. I've just done my first run in almost a week, I managed to pick up where I left off, so try it and see when you're rested!
Great presents to help keep you motivated though!0 -
Week 2 Day 3 complete. Another non-stop 10K, in under an hour (59 mins). Also, beat my PB for the 5K along the way (29 mins).0

Great running there - it's so neat that running longer helps with speed as well!0 -
W2D1 didn't go over so well this morning. I have been kind of slacking off due to the holidays and last week I took a couple days off b/c of a cold so I don't know if that had anything to do with how much I struggled today. I ran the first 15 mins fine but a few mins into the 2nd run I felt like I couldn't do it and walked pretty much the rest of the time :frown:
I think I will be repeating W2D1 on Thursday.0 -
I re-did w2d1 today. I am happy to say it went much better than last time. I did take a quick little break in the 3rd run but just a few seconds and I also walked maybe an extra 15 seconds in between runs. I am satisfied with that though and consider w2d1 a success.0
-
I did w2d2 today. I thought I was doing w2d3 but I forgot I re-did day 1. So anyways, it went pretty good. I feel like I am not progressing like I should be. I feel like it should be getting easier but I don't think that it is. But even though I'm not breezing through it I am enjoying running more than I enjoy doing my other work outs now so that itself feels like progress to me. I have increased my speed a little recently so maybe that's why the length of the runs arent getting easier.0
-
I think it's harder to do the earlier runs because there are more intervals and you have to keep restarting. I was dreading going from 3 breaks to 2, and then 2 to 1, and then the 60-minute run at the end but it was actually fine. Did my first 7-miler the other day and it was hard but doable (i.e. I was still alive at the end!).0
-
Ok it has taken me a month to start week 2, but here I am. I did lots of traveling over the holidays so my runs we're inconsistent. SomI redid week one last week and started week 2 again today. It was tough and slow, but I got thru it. I hope I can make it through the week! I am definitely not a natural runner.0
