I started Upping calories last Thursday. I have been on MFP since mid- December and not lost a pound - actually had gained.
This morning I was down 1.5 lbs! Heres my intake this week:
Thursday: 1883 calories; Fat 15 left; carbs over by 6; protein 64 left
Friday: 1467 calories; Fat 23 left; carbs over by 37; protein 80 left
Saturday: 1300 calories; Fat 6 left; carbs 147 left; protein 84 left
Sunday: 1703 calories; Fat 38 left; carbs 118 left; protein 95 left
Monday: 1728 calories; Fat 26 left; carbs 20 left; protein 48 left
Tuesday: 1867 calories: Fat 11 left; carbs 9 left; protein 39 left
So as you can see I have been working on getting my calories up and my macros where they should. I am running and/or walking 5 days a week at lunch hour, doing weights in the evening - just varied depending on my schedule. I'm working on getting the book and getting to a more set routine.
I need to do measurements still - will try to get those done for my weigh in next wednesday.
So excited to feel good and have energy!0 -
Got my own updates today:
Two weeks ago, I got really sick and couldn't hold any food down all weekend. I stepped on the scale that Monday weighing in at 4lbs heavier than I was the week before. I resumed eating my cut value for the rest of that week, but the scale wouldn't budge. I had a feeling that my body still didn't trust me after starving it all weekend, so I decided to make this week a maintenance week to give my body the refeed that it needed. So, starting Sunday I upped my cals, ate at maintenance, and today (Thurs) I stepped on the scale and was down 3.5! I think my body is finally forgiving me
I'm going to continue to eat at maintenance for the rest of this week before resuming my cut values. But just wanted to share.
Don't be afraid to feed your bodies, people! And don't be afraid to UP your cals in the face of plateaus or the body trying to hold on to extra weight. Sometimes it just needs reassurance.
A question on your refeed. By "Maintenance", do you mean MFP's suggested maintenance, or is it your TDEE with no cut. I'm just confused. I'm at my MFP maintenance, which is basically the same as my TDEE w/ a 15% cut. I have had absolulety no change in measurements for the past month. I will get on the scale in another week (stayed off for the month), to check the pounds. I'm starting to get discouraged. I wonder if I need to eat more, but that seems counterintuitive. Right now I net about 1825, and only eat back exercise to my BMR of about 1420 (sometimes up to 1600).
Would you run my numbers for your expert opinion? Age: 40 Weight: 145 before starting upping, then it went up to 149 Height: 5'6.5". Run 3 days a week, Lift 2 days a week.0 -
My weight had been going up from this change, but yesterday i was down 1 lb, and today down one more.. 1 more lb till I'm back to the # I started at (11 lbs down) when I started upping.. Hope this trend continues!!
May 7th is my measuring date (once a month), so i will update after that!
Weird huh! I'm back to 192.4. I was 192.2 when I started and went up to 196 point something on Monday. Tuesday when I weighed myself I was back down. Maybe I was bloated. Who knows. *shrugs*0 -

I used Fitnessfrog:
Your BMR 1401
TDEE 2172 - this is your Maintenance calories
You should eat every single day 1817 (your cut value) on days you have a high burn net 1400.
BTW, we are very close in age and height (I'm 41 and little over an inch taller), but I weigh154lbs... I would say to run 2 days a week and expand lifting to 3 days...You could work on not worrying so much about the weight and try and add more lean muscle tissue which will help you burn the fat off which is probably what you are looking for, more of the more "toned" look. Lifting heavy will give you the "look" of being slender but you may actually carry more weight. People can't believe when I tell them my weight, I am heavier now and fit clothes that I could only fit when I was under 150lbs...I don't really think I will lose much more weight but actually gain because of the muscle, which is ok...as long as the fat comes off and I have the look I want, who cares what the scale says:-) Work in progress:-)
Keep us posted! Staye encouraged because if I can do it, I know you can too.

While I was skeptical about eating more to weigh less, I thought I'd give it a fair shake and do it for 30 days to see how it went.
For anyone interested, I just wanted to share my experience:

Finally I dropped some weight!! I gained 5 pounds initially when I started upping my calories. Over the last 2 weeks, those 5 pounds are gone gone gone!! Yea!! I know that I probably won't continue to lose at that kind of rate but man am I thrilled!!!!0

Thanks for the support, Lucia. And, thanks for confirming my numbers... that's exactly what I'm doing right now. I will keep persevering! Yes, I guess I'm still hung up on what the darn scale says.... I know, I know. Right now I have to run 3 days/wk, because I'm training for a half-marathon. When that's over in June, I can up my lifting to 3 days. I prefer not to work out more than 5 days a week, because my 40ish body really needs those two rest days And yes, my priority is to lower body fat, and look more toned. Do you have your lifting routine somewhere here??? Would love to follow it, because you look FABULOUS!!!!0 -

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on EATING MORE! I especially like your quote "What's 30 days if it means I might be doing something good for my body for a change?" I decided to switch to monthly evaluations instead of weekly evaluations. After all, it's a marathon, not a sprint0 -

Hey! I'm down another pound also. Our body's are starting to trust us. Thats a good thing. Even though I had gained initially I was fearful that maybe I wasn't eating enough "still" but I guess I am. Now I'm working on getting my macros in order. Especially protein. Today I'm only 15 grams away from fulling my protein requirements. I guess I'll add another protein drink0 -

Hey guys, well I've been just sort of lurking quietly around the group the last few weeks as I've been a bit discouraged by not seeing any progress. As a last ditch effort I decided to buy a body fat % monitor and low and behold it has gone down .3% in the last week! Its not huge but its moving in the right direction and it means something is changing even if I can't see it on the scale or with a measuring tape0

Any progress is progress lady!! Keep up the good work . If you don't mind my asking, what BF monitor did you buy?? I've been thinking about getting one.0 -
Its the Omron Fat Loss Monitor HBF-306C. I got it on Amazon for $30. I saw a few people recommend it in the boards including one who said they were in the medical field so it seemed like a good option.0

I have one also. I got it because my old nutritionist uses it. There is an old thread on MFP about these scales...handheld and step on. The handheld is said only to give you the fat loss % from the waist up and the step on scale only gives you the fat loss % from the waist down. That is why they give you different numbers.
I use them both and just use an BF% average. Last Monday the handheld said I was 30 while the step on scale said I was 37.8 (my fat is mostly in my hips and thighs) so I average my BF% to be 33.9%
Check your BF% in the morning after you use the restroom but before you eat or drink. Make sure you dry your hands very well when using the handheld monitor.0 -
I'm excited this morning! This is the first time I see 195.4 pounds on the scale for years!!! I know it's just two pounds so far but I'm really excited because dang I eat a lot! I really hope this will continue0
-
Ok so I haven't posted here yet but am so excited. When I started I weighed 127lbs and had a BF% of 36% I know that seems high but I was very squishy (I used both Fat2fit and a hand caliber both were with in a %). As of 2 weeks ago (at 30 days) I was up a pound after fluctuating up and down about 4lbs I finally leveled off at 128. But the better news is that at 30 days I lost 3 3/4 inches around my waist, 3 inches around my love handles, my butt is higher, about a 1/2 inch around my hips and some other small losses else where and I was down to 30.8% BF. Now two weeks later I have lost another1/4 inch around waist, 3/4 inch around my love handles, and another 1/2 inch around my hips. So exciting. I haven't checked my BF I will wait until 60days to do that (another 2 weeks). I couldn't have asked for better results and the best results of all is the pic my husband took yesterday of my back when flexed holy moly I have muscles.0

That is awesome..see if you were fixated on the scale you wouldn't appreciate this great accomplishment. So happy for you!!0 -
First check-in on this thread. I started upping (slowly and grudgingly) back around the beginning of March, but finally bit the bullet and upped to the number I calculated using the the formulas here (my cut number based on current weight is within 50 calories of the maintenance calories for my goal weight. coincidence? i think not, hah!) this week when my new workout routine established it was kicking my *kitten*. After losing soooo slowly since early-mid March (.5-1lb/week when I should have been losing 1.5-2 based on numbers and how much I have to lose), this week yields a 2 pound loss, and while my next "official" measurements aren't until next weekend, I was curious due to pant fit issues, and I've lost an inch from my waist (both at the narrowest point and at my naval)!!! So excited!0

188.8lbs!! Wooooooooooohooo!!
I was in high school when I weighed this!! Never in my adult life have I've been in the 180's. I'm beside myself right now.0 -

Congrats, that's amazing! You must feel fantastic!0 -
I'm about 2 weeks in and I finally started losing weight Friday (today is Sunday) so that is exciting!
Also, I lost an inch and a half in my chest (around where the band of the bra would go, not the bust) which I think might be an error, because that seems like a lot for 1 week- but I checked the measurement several times- could have been messed up last week I guess...Lost half an inch in the waist, and a half inch off each calf. Sweet!
Except...My biceps got bigger!!!! I want to be stronger but I already have meaty arms! Gahhh! There's plenty of fat there to come off though, so I'm hoping this is temporary, and it definitely won't slow down my strength training.0 -

You are doing fantastic!!
Don't worry about your arms. Your biceps will get bigger but the fat will eventually shed itself and you will be left with pretty arms. Mine aren't going down either. They are staying at 12.5 but my muscles are getting bigger so that means the fat is disappearing.0 -
Good morning All,
SW 197.4 4/17/12
201.4 4/23/12
199.2 4/30/12, so since starting I have gained and loss and it feels so good. I have lost a total of 9 inches (whole body) since 4/17/12. I do know that I feel so much better since upping my calories and feeding my body. I have tried to eat my TDEE 2100 daily and maintain the exercise as where I wouldn't drop below my BMR. This is working and I love it!!!!!0
