Hmmm - clever chicken fingers idea! Thanks 4 sharing.

On another note: I deleted alot of people off my friends list recently. Please please do not think it was personal. I just find it easier to blog once in a while on here. I couldn't keep up. So please do not be offended.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

    Hi everyone,

I weighed today and stayed the same all week. At least it wasn't a gain, though. Not sure which video I'll do tonight, but I'm going to do one.

I've made chicken fingers a little differently, but that sounds so good! I'll have to give them a try! I have flax seed on my grocery list!

    Happy Friday!!!

Everyone seems to be doing very well, and congratulations to the losers.

On another note, re couting calories...while Atkins doesn't advocate counting calories, they don't want you to eat 2,000 calories a day unless you are a "tri-athelete". Usually anywhere from 1400-1700 calories is good, but the best way to do it is weigh your portions to make sure you are not overeating. You can be on a true platueau when it exceeds 30 days. Try lowering your carb intake by 5-10g and see how you do within the next 2 weeks. You have to find your critical carb level. That is where you can eat a certain amount of carbs and NOT lose weight and not gain weight. If you are trying to lose, you have to go down on your carbs starting at around 30g, and if you are losing too fast (fast weight loss is not good, will come back double), so don't get too happy with that.

A 1 -2 lbs a week weight loss is good, after the initial Induction. Your Net carbs should be around 35-40g if you are on OWL. If you find that your scale or inches is still not budging you might have to stay at 25g until you are 20 lbs from your goal weight. Just think, some people can eat 50g NET CARBS and still lose weight. You have to find out if your body can handle that amount of NET Carbs. Don't fret, try backing down on the carbs a bit and see how your scale/inches lost proceeds.

Anyhow, I wish everyone a great weekend and will check back in tomorrow.

Hi! I just thought I would introduce myself! I'm brand new to this group and so glad I found it. I am also brand new to the low carb lifestyle. I just began researching it, although have been familiar with it for a long time. I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers but have been at a stand still since my complete hysterectomy in January  I have been on hormone replacement therapy for a month now and that, although a huge blessing, has messed up my body. So, I am praying a low carb lifestyle is what I need.
I've got the workout part down. I love to work out, but the diet part not so much.

I'm scared to death of the withdraw from carbs...I'm not going to lie!!!!!!!!!!
I also guess my biggest question would be I'm not sure how many carbs a day I should consume as I'm not following an exact diet plan (Atkins, Protein Power etc) rather just a low carb lifestyle)

I look forward to getting to know everyone and wish everyone the best of luck!!!!

From what I've heard most people say, they start with 20-50 NET carbs...thats carbs minus fiber...if something has 5 g carbs and 2 fiber, it's 3 NET carbs.

hello everyone tomorrow is a start of a new week, whatever you did or didn't do this week its OK because we can start a new,
now i was wondering about is it best to work off your carbs after eating them? or before? i would eat something that has high carbs like my morning shake and wait 1hr then burn it off, but i am thinking maybe this is wrong,
    what do you guys think?

Got a roast on for lunch (and supper) tomorrow. With celery for hubby and me, carrots and taters for everyone else. Also have our egg muffins baking for our breakfast for the week. Will cook our bacon in the morning. Going to have sliced tomatoes with those.

good morning friends! hope you had a wonderful weekend!
i decided to up my carbs 30-50net, i find its hard to stay under 30, i like my new plan it seem fitting for me.
i drink shakology every morning its the best drink i have found, its a bit pricy 129bucks a month, but i believe it. its the best.
its low glycemic index so i don't get any blood sugar spikes, the best thing about it is that its has load of vitamins,
after the drink about an hour i go workout, and the rest of my day is low carb, i don't feel as hungry when i was doing it with a high carb diet, well hope you have a wonderful stress free week!

always believe in yourself that you can do this!:flowerforyou:

So, I went to the doctor on Friday for my check-up and everything is grand. I'm lucky because he completely supports a low carb diet and he knows the body/health I had before and wants it for me as much as I do (small town curse, I guess. Can I also state that it sucks when your doctor plays golf with your hubby....) . He looked over all my numbers and pounds lost in the last for weeks (I love that we can print reports on this site) and he has officially declared me in a weight loss plateau (2lbs lost in 4 weeks with no cheating).

He gave me some great ideas to get off this very frustrating plateau. Thought I'd share what he wants me to do in case someone else is struggling as I am. I am going to eat NORMAL today- keep my calories and portions in check, but not count carbs. Then next week (tomorrow) hit induction phase at a 10-20 net carb level for 6 days, absolutely no processed foods, no eating after six, 12 8oz glasses of water, and 8-10 hours sleep. Then back to normal days as they are now. He explained to me that I need to trick my metabolism out of the "starving for carbs" mode that it is in. He also explained that as I have a small frame.... I really don't need more than 1000 to 1300 calories each day while loosing weight, and I defeat the purpose of exercise if I eat what I've burned off. But I defiantly shouldn't go lower than 1000 cals a day.

So.... I'm going to try it. I am NO expert, but he is (University of Utah Sports Med. Specialist)! Wish me luck! Make it a great week!

Oh yeah..... Baily- I asked him the "ice tea" question from the other day. Dr. said "freshly brewed ice tea (unsweetened) with lemon (so good for you w/ fresh lemon) can be traded out for 3- 8oz water servings a day. Caffeinated or not. He does believe that for someone who is "awake" more than 12 hours a day... caffeinated beverages are fine as long as they are not consumed after 4:00pm (he is very big on getting enough uninterrupted sleep). LOL..... uninterrupted sleep??? What is that!!!!???

I've been feeling that I eat the same things over and over so I bought a few extras while grocery shopping today. I'm adding coconut oil to my morning "meal" because on some mornings I simply have time for coffee and that's it. (Thanks for the info TM) I love my bacon, sausage, and eggs, but time overrules all on my busy mornings. I also bought Wasa 7 grain crackerbread because I've been wanting crunch. I can eat 3 slices for 60 cals and 11 net carbs. I don't plan to eat them plain either..Laughing Cow Queso Fresco & Chipolte spreadable cheese for 35 calories and 2 net carbs. I'm always looking at other LCer diaries for ideas so please share if you find something delish! I hope everyone is doing great on their journey ;-)

I drink my coffee every morning on my way to work, I add the coconut oil, and approx 2 TBSP of HWC and I'm not hungry for a while. The coconut oil also burns body fat. :)

awesome. Since it IS oil, it will tend to float on top, so give the cup a swirl each sip. That's what I do. Can't taste it, and to me, it doesnt feel oily in my mouth.

I did just as you said and I couldn't taste it either. Mother Nature is trying her best to interfere with my experimentation though. It's my TOM and I had pizza for dinner last night! It is what it is and now I must move on.

Thanks! I have actually slowed down on the iced tea, but guess what? I replaced it with coffee! LOL I DO have 3 children, 2 of which still get up at night (it's the 2 older 2 that come begging to sleep with us)... So, I do feel like I need the caffeine! Thanks again and good luck switching it up!

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. I don't get on the forums on the weekends. Too busy
I read about the coconut oil....I love, love coconut oil. I mainly cook with it, but we've been grilling a lot, so I haven't been getting it in. Never thought of putting it in my coffee! Wonderful idea! I'll try that starting tomorrow! I bet it tastes great!

I had an ok Saturday, not so great Sunday! We went to Red Lobster and I ordered what I thought to be a good choice, then it came and it was all battered and fried...even the darn veggies!! Who batters and fries veggies! And it did NOT say that on the menu. So, in turn, I felt as if I had "already ruined it" so I ate a biscuit. Got through the entire meal, then after I ate my meal, I ate the darned biscuit. Oh well. We have dinners at my moms with my brother and sister in law on Sundays and my mom does low carb, so it's easy to eat there, but she had been to a baby shower and made veggie pizza...my weakness...I ate a lot. A LOT. However, I am not beating myself up today. It's ok, I am back at it today. Forgot my shake. Spent the morning drinknig coffee and chatting with my husband, looked at the clock and realized I was supposed to be at work right then and left with no shake  I may have one in the cafeteria fridge, not sure yet.

Anyway, I just wrote a ton....I'm off to start my week's work! Have a great week everyone!

For those of you who have used Coconut oil... is it easy to find at a regular grocery store?

Does it have a slight flavor of Coconut? like can you tell in your cooking that you used it verses butter or another oil?

    Happy Monday!

    Good Afternoon:

I think everyone has hit a "bump" in the road once or twice and have learned from them and that is the amazing part, you have to pick yourself up and keep going. If you keep looking back, you can't go forward.

Glad that everone is blogging and getting to know one another.

I myself have got to bite the bullet. I have to let go of the sodium for sure, my pressure is up slightly and I am up anywhere from 1.5 to 2 lbs and then back down. I am going back down to 20g of carbs starting today for the next 2 weeks. This weight has got to gooooooooooo!!

Will check back in later, and have a great low carb meal.

I really miss croutons in my salad, so today I made a huge salad with grilled chicken strips and smashed up pork rinds. I had to choke it down...I still just cannot get myself to care for pork rinds. Totally wish I could like them. Just a tip for anyone out there who does like them. I really thought it was a good idea. Lots of sodium in them, though.

Smiles-- The coconut oil I buy online. I get it on amazon.com When I cook with it, I don't notice a taste, but I'm guessing it would taste in coffee? Not sure though...I'll find out tomorrow! Maybe tonight if I have some later. It smells great, though! You open the jar and it smells heavenly!! Good luck! It's great for you and you can use it for all kinds of things. Diaper rash, hair, body, and as a supplement and cooking oil. Great, great stuff!

Hey everyone! I went shopping on Saturday and started eating low carb (again!) on Sunday. I love how I have stopped craving foods! I have to remember to eat, cuz I just don't get hungry on this way of eating!

My weight was up, significantly, this morning. I'm sure it's water (TOM), but I logged it anyway. Will just show a greater loss when it goes, lol.

Still can't exercise, can hardly walk. Havent got my referral to the orthopidic specialist yet, either. I think my dr's office is tired of me calling to ask them, but I am in pain! Hopefully they will call me today. I don't think I am going to be ready for my 5K Labor Day weekend if I can't ever start training again!

Re the coconut oil - our Super Walmart carries it. It's with all the other oils. Haven't tried it yet though.

I bought my coconut oil at Kroger. (I work there so I'm there all the time ;-)!!) I bought the cheap stuff located with the regular cooking oils after comparing it with the more expensive ones in the Organic Foods section. There was no difference in any of the nutritional facts so I saw no reason to pay twice as much for a smaller container. I have only had it in my coffee thus far and other that it looking oily, I noticed no difference. I will be cooking with it tonight for the first time.

    Smiles;
I bought my coconut oil at my grocers. Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil for $11.99. 14 oz jar. I love it! I use it for cooking my cod, shark, and sometimes chicken in a skillet. I use about 3 tblsp at max. I find it gives a hint of flavor, especially in my cod and it's very pleasant.

I hope that helps you. happy cooking!

Thanks everyone for the tips on where to buy coconut oil! (I have a Kroger- so I will go there first, and Coy, thanks for the tip for getting the cheaper product!)

dis5150, I feel your pain. I had plantar facilitis with a bone spur back in Feb. I couldn't walk for a week- and had to hold off on exercise, besides walking for about 2 months. It was hard! and very hard to lose weight, but they say a big part is what you eat, so welcome back to being low carb!

I'm amazed too - the lack of cravings that I have being low carb and off sugar. If anyone's interested, this is a great blog with neat (though different!) recipes. I tried the shamrock shake on Saturday and it was GOOD! http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/

Linda, I'm very familiar with the up 1lb, down 1lb. :) Hope the 20 net carbs will help! Go for it!

You can get it anywhere. I was buying the expensive organic, but now I just get the Louana brand. Walmart has it for less than $5. The refined (which the louana, and most you can get in regular stores is) does NOT have a coconut taste, it is tasteless, but the unrefined has a slight tasted of coconut. I have no read ahead, so I hope I didnt repeat anyone. :)

Good Tuesday morning!! I am up way too early..just woke up and found it impossible to go back to sleep. I'm back to work today after a 3 day weekend so I hope I'm up to it. My job is just so stressful at times. (I am a pharmacy tech at my local Kroger's) I honestly just don't want to go back when I leave there sometimes. I'm sure we've all felt that way before though! I just need to suck it up and go get ready for work. :grumble:

I hope everyone has a lovely, low-carb day!
