CUT Progress After RESET-Tell us your ups/downs!

Well, after 6 weeks of cut I'm finally on a losing trend. I lost another whole pound since last week. I'm going to take a rest week starting tomorrow and eat my TDEE all week (without exercise factored in). My clothes still fit the same and I have not measured yet and I'm a bit afraid to. Don't want to do anything to mess with my good feeling right now.
I hope to see another loss next week!
Hugs to those of you who are struggling with the mental game. Hang in there!0 -
tom is a gift and a curse. i hate to get it because i gain but i like to get it because once its over i lose a couple pounds more than i gained.
anywho, congrats to u all who are losing0 -
Hey everyone... like I said I would, I'm reporting in with my results from my 2nd week of cut
Also, like I said I would, I did EVERY little bit of exercise I planned on doing and ate incredibly healthily, exactly at my calorie goal almost exactly ALL week... and I'm down about .2 of a kg. (I think about half a pound)
yay!!!!! I know it's only a tiny bit of progress... but l'm happy
A little NSV: About a month or two ago I watched an advertisement for the 'brazilian butt-lift' workout DVD... and the ad includes this thing called 'the pencil test' where you stand up straight and place a pencil under the crease in your bum. If it gets stuck under your skin/fat and stays there it shows that you have little muscle and a lot of fat in your butt. If it falls down, it proves that you have strong butt muscles, and a 'lifted' butt. Out of curiosity I tried this, and was disappointed to find that the pencil got stuck there under a big hunk of flab, proving I had a saggy bottom (sorry if this is TMI haha!!)
Today, after a month or two of doing many intense Jillian Michaels workouts, all through my metabolism reset and after, (which include many leg and butt exercises, squatting, lunging etc) I tried the pencil test again... and guess what, it fell down!! I couldn't believe it at first, so I re-did the test a few times, but the pencil just would not stay. I'm so happy!! My arms are also getting quite muscular, from all the push ups and plank exercises I've been doing too. This is the first bit of physical progress I've seen in ages, and it obviously shows that I'm building muscle. Next weekend I'm gonna take my measurements and see if I've changed in any other places.
I'm happy with my progress, even though it's only a little- it means a lot Keep going everyone, it's all worth it in the end. I've struggled so hard for so long, and now it's just starting to pay off.0 -
Im trying to envision that test, and I just cant quite picture it.. but congrats on a falling pencil!!:)
Im super peeved this morning.. I was finally seeing the bloat vanish and yesterday it was .8 away from where I was prior to TOM... so I was expecting to see another drop today since I had a rest day yesterday and sodium was in check and everything else looked good... And I have an unexplained 1.6 pound gain....
GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
I feel like I am never getting out of this cycle and I am never going to see results.. 6 weeks in.. this is getting ridiculous!0 -

Congrats on passing the butt test. I admit that it gave me a much needed chuckle!
Raynn - you're doing so well and staying so strong though all of this!
I have nothing much to report. Scale weight is up slightly. I'm not sure what that's due to. I didn't log Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I decided I HAD to start logging again today. I really don't think I overate during the weekend, but it could be sodium-based water retention. I'm just not sure. I continue to struggle to have any energy whatsoever. I'm now on an antibiotic for a double middle ear infection, so maybe the infection is responsible in part for some of my lethargy. I'm really anxious for my dr.'s office to open this week so that I can find out about my lab results.
On a positive note I signed up for an adult dance class that starts in roughly two weeks. Cabaret/jazz . I've always loved dance - it's been years since I've taken a class, but it will be a good way for me to be active and have some fun!
I am hoping that this energy stuff gets figured out soon. I want to start NROLFW with my energy intact so that I can really pour myself into it when I start. Yawning a I type this. I need to do laundry, but I may just go take a nap with my baby since I'm off work today.0 -
This is the update thread...ok....TOM is over...almost 2 months into this (EM2WL) ....same 2 pounds lost and gained. I am being patience but this SUCKS!!! Just needed to vent and wish everyone a happy labor day
At this rate It will take 10 years to lose my last 30 pounds...feeling discouraged but hopeful at the same time!

It's a frustrating process and I can't count the number of messages and wall posts I have exchanged with other EM2WL members who go through the same thing.
My deal is: I have never felt so good and the progress is coming. I can do things now I never DREAMED of doing before. So in the end sure the scale isn't moving and I'd rather see an 8 pack of abs and look like a lean cut Ryan Reynolds. Fact of the matter is I feel superb and I'm happy. So that's all that matters. The rest will come!0 -
Crystal - I hope the test results give you some insight this week.
I am still hanging in. I just finished Stage 4 of NROL and I am now on a rest week. And perfect timing since we are involved in our friends wedding this weekend, and have lots of time needed for that.. So I will give it a few days or so, then take my measurements and weight and see where the real number is..
Im still super pissed at the unexplained bloat again.. but trying to just go with it and hope a Whooosh is upon me soon.
Its definitely not the Cut progress I was expecting and I would be lying if I said this wasnt killing me to have basically no results 6 weeks in. But I know somewhere the other shoe has to drop, right?0 -

Wow, I haven't been able to get in this thread too often, but the one thing I have noticed is everyone is talking about the scale...let me tell you, if I didn't take pics I might have thrown in the towel a few times...lol. Are you all taking pictures and comparing, your start, then tdee, end of tdee, start of cut, four weeks into cut. Here is why I am asking? When I started tdee i was 154lbs, I then did 9wks tdee and leveled off at 158lbs. I then started 10% cut and changed my routine a bit to slightly lower weights (still lifting heavy, just not doing 6 reps, more like 10-15 so I have to lessen the weights just a bit) and added in a little more cardio. the first week I SHOT TO 162ish pounds...stayed there for the next few weeks, dropped a wee bit, then back to it and then I did TDEE week of my bday, then cut again...blah blah blah...this morning I weighed at home at 166.8...NOW, to some that would be horrifying...to me it is not. Why? I am no longer looking to the scale to tell me how I am doing. My pictures, my clothes, the definition when I flex or lift, the fat pockets that are shrinking, the ones that have disappeared...those are my indicators. Now I know some is water because I had Japanese last night, I know TOM water is about to get rolling, but this morning when I woke up...I looked tighter especially in my core...so I am NOT going to ever again let the scale dictate my mood and I won't let it trick me into slashing cals. I plateaued doing that, I couldn't lift like I do now, my body sure didn't look how it looks now.
So, ladies please stay focused...do we want to hit a certain weight or fit a certain size. If you say size, then you lift heavy, eat right and the rest will fall into place. It will.0 -
Lucia~
I know the scale is mentioned a lot in recent posts but when some of us are gaining 20-30 pounds or more and seeing NO change in our appearance (for the better), it does become somewhat significant.
You mention using pictures and your clothes as a measure of your success, which I agree with BTW, but if our clothing size is going UP~like at least 2 sizes up~ I, for one, am not taking any pictures of that.
What we're talking about is layers of FAT being added to our bodies. This fat is covering up any new muscle definition we may have gained with our lifting programs so we're not getting that positive feedback.
So, yes, it's upsetting. There are thousands of members doing EM2WL now.
We are all inspired by you, KiKi, HarlanJen, Mike, and Brad to name a few and the science behind it makes so much sense.
But "science" always looks good on paper~ when it comes to applying it to the human body, it's a whole other story.
NONE of us want to go back to VLCD, but something's gotta give......0 -

exactly THIS!!! I totally get it that the "scale lies" etc. etc. etc. but come on.....if our clothes fit the same and the measuring tape lies and the mirror sucks then really....somethin's gotta give! I've been there...totally. Right now I'm doing okay mentally because I think I'm in a downward trend (finally....in week 6 of my cut after 8wks of reset) but who knows where I'll be tomorrow....this is seeeeeeriously hard stuff! hang in there and have a good week!0 -

Hey Rosie,
Yes, I feel your pain and though it is hard to hear VLCD still isn't the way to go either. Let's look at what is happening, maybe there is something that needs to be tweaked. Kiki posted a great blog this morning that can give some ideas http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://bit.ly/Q0TQr7&h=3AQH4W-upAQG_b7cU5VvJTT_Lm9SdAvdb0JP2TYfk3ib6iQ&enc=AZNvWSS7c5roBuZhIbPDi387swxKF6nmfs-FVkw6DUpZHkIygkYWYY7fq4AnKVlqYkE9a7PxOPVEzLXYHPaYU2Nb&s=1
Hope this helps.

I'm curious...how many here who are having trouble seeing results in the first 2 months after going to cut are coming from a VLCD? I'm thinking almost all?
I can't vouch for anything...I'm in this with you. But I do want to add something to the concerns happening here that I think need to be factored in to the way we think. These certainly stick in my mind when I feel discouraged.
We are all here for a reason. One of those main reasons is because we stopped seeing results at a VLCD. By that point our bodies had already reached a point of mutiny against our weight-loss plans. Many of us had already done some SERIOUS damage to our metabolisms.
I am definitely in that group. I had hoped that after a metabolism reset that my weight would just start magically dropping steadily or that my inches would just start flying off. However, realistically, I have ONLY GIVEN MY BODY 8 WEEKS to get with MY new program after teaching it for 20 years that I was an unreliable ally. I want it to trust me..but does it? probably not yet. I expect that I am going to have to baby my body for many months yet before I begin to see a beautiful steady downwards pattern of weight or inches (or both) because for the first little while, I'm still teaching my body that the food is plentiful while at the same time denying it maintenance cals. That's quite a fine line to balance on.
In regards to weight and inches, those don't always show anything. My pants feel snugger since going to cut and changing up my exercise, and my inches are up/down and all over changing, (The total results of my measurements was a 1/2 inch gain).
BUT - my husband told me just the other day that he could see my body changing in a good way! I can't see it, my measurements don't seem to reflect it, but he can see it. He also made a comment that it's too bad you can't measure your face because so much of the change shows there first on me. And in my hands. (my rings fit differently). He also said my shoulders are smaller...how many of you measure your shoulders? I sure don't!!! So he sees changes in places I can't even measure. My clothes don't reflect it. My measurements don't reflect it. My scale sure doesn't either. But something is happening. I'm about 6 weeks into cut...so as you can see, these changes are SLOW.
Some things to consider: If you rushed your metabolism reset, you may need to do it again. If you have your numbers wrong because you are kidding yourself, then fix them (I did this as soon as I dropped to cut...and have since corrected that). (dropping them too low at first can backfire for us VLCD'ers I think because it's like teasing your body with a lovely surplus for a bit where it held on to things in case of drought again and then you just put it back into a drought confirming it's fears so it'll just keep holding on to that extra food!) retraining your body, fixing your metabolism, is not a quick repair. Remember Kiki did a metabolism reset for MONTHS...I don't think any of us allowed our bodies that kind of time.
Be prepared to take things slow with your body. Remember we are still in retraining mode. We aren't all magically FIXED just because we fed our bodies for 8 weeks. Some of us are going to suffer the consequences of our earlier VLCD days a little longer.
Of course, there are going to be some of you that say you don't fit into anything I just said. And to you, I have no answer. I can only leave that up to the experts such as Lucia and Kiki who have actual training and can help you tweak the finer points.
I don't share these things to start debate, only to give encouragement to those that feel perhaps they fit into that mold. I am no expert...I only share what I experience and what I have learned and am learning in this process.0 -

Ok Rosie, time is killing me and I could only do a quick look at your last week or so but from your diary there are a few things I would suggest tweaking. Your protein is pretty low most days and you tend to go over in carbs. I suggest switching your macros to 40%carb, 30% protein and fat (or even 35% carb, 35%protein and 30%fat is also pretty good and what I am doing right now). Focus on getting in the protein each day and do what it takes to make food choices that will get your macros where they need to be on a somewhat consistent bases. I see a few days where maybe you didn't finish logging, but your numbers were low. I know during times of frustration it is easy to drop the cals, but staying consistent is so key. It is better for you to hit TDEE a day instead of dropping cals. Also, it doing four or so weeks of cut and then a diet break of tdee for a week should not allow the body to adapt to the new low you are feedin git.
Another thing is, I don't know if you are one of the people that have thyroid issues like myself. I limit PB because it blocks the uptake of my medication and I notice you eat it daily. If not the case, then totally disregard.
I so agree with Jyska, VLCD did NOT work for me. EM2WL works, it is a science but how it is implemented, the results will vary. During the process the hope is that we become more in tuned with our bodies and can start to tweak ourselves as we go along. I am still learning and tweaking through this.
Hope this helps.

Excellent post Jyska!0 -
Lucia~ thanks for taking a look at my diary and for your suggestions about the protein and carbs. I haven't really been worrying about carbs but I'll look and see what I can cut.
As for the PB, I started that as a means to get more calories in when I came here from VLCD. I have NEVER been "allowed" to have PB and so this has been nirvana for me during these last months.
I feel my concern (and other's) about gaining so much FAT weight is valid and was completely unexpected.
I will continue to hang in there....remember what I said about science on paper and science applied......that's a valid point too.0 -
Just an update from yesterday:
Lucia took some time with me and asked for "the story of my journey thusfar". After reviewing it she came up with a number of ideas and I want to share what I think is the MOST significant with you~
I started my Reset AND NROL4W at the same time. So eating at TDEE and lifting heavy.
Because I have MS and fatigue is a big component of it, I discovered that my new lifting routine was very draining on me and I had to choose either NROL or my cardio classes~ I chose NROL4W.
I completely STOPPED ALL cardio.
What do we know about cardio? A REASONABLE amount is very good for burning fat. And I was doing NONE!!
I added all that food for Reset, started a lifting routine, but did NOTHING to help with fat burning.
I am adjusting my workouts according to Lucia's suggestion and I am really, really, REALLY hoping that it makes a difference!
Just wanted you all to know this.
Another helpful thing that Lucia mentioned was that EM2WL was a GUIDELINE and that it really has to be tweaked to the individual. I, for one, appreciated hearing this and feel MUCH better about things.
I am once again hopeful.:flowerforyou:0 -

so how much cardio are you doing now? i started NROLFW and cut out all cardio (except for warm up) because that was the suggestion in the book... at least for stage 1. i know stage 2 introduces intervals.0 -

SO glad your feeling better today Rosie!! Go get 'em!!0 -
This makes sense to me Rosie. While EM2WL is obviously opposed to the kill yourself with nonstop cardio method, I totally get why a little bit is necessary. I'm going to be starting NROLFW after my race and I could see myself easily making the same mistake - especially since I'm really struggling with fatigue. Thank you for sharing! And I really hope the change helps you!
As for me, I'm still chugging along. I've been going over information on adrenal fatigue and I suspect this might be my issue. I've actually suspected it for quite some time, but have been hoping that it's not the case. I'll wait for the rest of my lab results and then bring up adrenal fatigue. The thing that sucks is I know a couple of people who've dealt with it and the test for it is almost never covered by insurance and costs several hundred dollars. This is a rough time for us to fork that over, so at this point I'm kind of hoping something cheaper to fix will show up in my bloodwork if that makes any sense.0 -

Beth~
I just heard from Lucia yesterday and this is what I'm going to do:
today~ NROL4W & Treadmill (as long as I can)
Thursday (hopefully) return to my 1 hour dance aerobic class
Friday~ should be a NROL day but Lucia suggested I lift 2 days a week instead of 3 (remembering that EVERYthing can be tweaked ) I can do a Pilates class or something else.
Basically I'm going to decrease to 2 days of Lifting because that's what I need to do to be able to do some cardio on non-lifting days. (I have MS and get fatigued very easily)
My week will probably look like this:
Monday NROL4W and whatever short cardio I can do
Tuesday, my beloved Yoga & maybe treadmill
Wednesday NROL4W & short cardio
Thursday~ cardio only
Friday~ cardio and/or Pilates
Sat~ off or Yoga
Sun~ off or more Yoga (can't help it )
One of the main things Lucia said that I am going to DRILL into my skull is that EM2WL and NROL4W are just GUIDELINES and that EVERYTHING can be tweaked to YOUR needs!!
I hope this helps......NO ONE wants to feel hopeless0 -
Rosie - that DOES make sense ... much luck to you!! You deserve great results! I can't wait to hear what happens!
For me, it was suggested I increase my two split days of lifting (upper/lower), to three days of full-body, plus keep my cardio the same (2 days of HIIT - 20 mins). I've done so, plus added in some hiking and some other cardio activities ... but I've continued to gain. I lowered my calories from moderately active to lightly active this week. I still feel satiated, so hopefully this is going in the right direction. I will either be going on a short hike this evening (~2 miles) or going to the gym for a full-body strength training workout. Just depends on the weather ... it's raining right now. Friday will be another full-body workout, then a circuit workout on Saturday with cardio and strength. I'm trying to figure this out. I just want to quit gaining (the last time I stepped on the scale I was up 29 pounds) and feeling so angry at myself. My diet this week - though hitting all my macros and calorie goal - isn't the best. I went out of town last weekend and am going next weekend, so to save $$ I didn't do any cooking and have only purchased a few fresh items for this week. I'm hoping that after next weekend's vacay, I'll be back on the fruit, veggie and lean meat bandwagon. I'm also thinking of trying gluten-free for a week or two; already have a menu planned out!0 -

I hope we've hit rock bottom and are on our way up now!!:drinker:
Thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback and well wishes~ it means a LOT and I DO feel so much better.0 -
Sorry, I havent been around in the last few days.. super busy with my friend's wedding for this weekend. Im knee deep in wedding cake decorating plus trying to get my kids packed and ready plus my hubby and i for the trip.. ACK!!
I am on a rest week. So no gym no nothing.. I am giving it a few days until I take measurements to see where I am at. Like many, I have good days and bad and some of the bad days are when I want to run for the hills and throw it all away. But I am still here. Its frustrating as hell some days and pains me that there is virtually no change, but I just hit the 6 week mark and that seems to be about the time people are noticing the trend downwards sticking around, so fingers crossed thats it for me.
My weight is playing with the same 1-2 pound down, and last I checked my inches were the same, however I have had a few people comment that they see a change in my figure. I dont know how but they see it so something has changed. So thats a start.
I know I never want to go VLCD again, and I am in it for the long haul... but it still doesnt negate from the fact that its like a hamster spinning wheels..frustrating as hell that we are still essentially standing still.
I hope you all have a great rest of the week.. ill report back after the wedding:)0 -
Hi again everyone! Back with some more AWESOME results!
I'm going away tomorrow for the weekend so I decided to take my measurements this morning instead of waiting till Sunday, which would be the end of week 3 of cut. I measured at the end of week one, and saw no changes, (it was a terrible week of eating badly and hardly any exercise) but now, after just two weeks I have lost inches ALL OVER!!!
I've lost half an inch from my thighs, upper arms, bust, upper waist and hips, and an inch from my ribs/underbust.
But the best part is... I've lost TWO AND A HALF inches off my lower waist/tommy!!!! Just goes to show how bloated I must have been on reset. It's great, I can wear tight tops from when I was at my skinniest and not feel like I have all this fat on my tommy anymore.
I can't believe I lost all that in just two weeks... my bust, hips and upper waist are now only about half an inch away from their pre-reset measurements... fingers crossed I can lose that half inch in the next 2-3 weeks
I'm not weighing myself till next weekend though, because this week TOM hit, and the scale goes wacky on TOM. I don't care though, because it always drops right down the day after TOM is gone.
I'm sooo happy! This is going really well for me. I was scared I'd start cut and just not see a difference like some people have on here... but obviously not! Keep going everyone, you'll all get there eventually!0 -
