Tell Us About Your Big Success This Week

I find that doing Pole is quite a roller coaster ride. One week you can't do a thing right and you leave class downhearted, then suddenly out of nowhere you can't do a thing wrong.

So I started this thread with the idea that every week someone in this community will have a success story that they want to share.

For me - as crazy as this might seem - after 2 months of pole I finally managed to do a firelady spin.

I can do other stuff, some of it first time, but this move has been my nemesis. I couldn't get it. Each week I'd hang on the pole like a slug going nowhere. Suddenly last night I'm spinning like I'm never going to stop and I'm totally in control of the move.

Got a big round of applause from the class and instructors ... I think they may be more pleased that I was, because they were running out of ideas on how to help me LOL!

Yay congrats to you for that, it's great when you have success like that as itencourages you in the other thigns you have trouble with!

I haven't had a success story this week as my class is tonight, but even then I doubt I'll have a success story!

If I do, I'll definitely post it here! :)

    Hurrah for achievements!!! :D

On Tuesday I managed to pay back the lovely lady from my pole class who rescued me and the car from a hedge a few weeks back, through the meduim of hugs and muffins. am taking this as an achievement!

Also, managed to deadlift a shouder mount. pretty chuffed - as I'm 90% legs this is not easy! :D

Was surprised at what a good pole lesson I had last night, considering I've never had a pole class on a Monday and in the winter I'm usually a lot more sluggish...

I managed to achieve a great Mantis move first time round and I can really feel my split grip butterfly getting a lot stronger... shouldn't be too long before I can do the extended butterfly! :D

I think it helped me to have a good lesson though because I was in a class with a different bunch of girls... the other girls were nice enough, but deep down you could tell it was all a competition to them and they would be so smug that they could get something first time when I couldn't... that and they were all stick thin which made me feel like a heifer in comparison! :/
At least this class the girls were all real women, with all natural lumps and bumps that made me feel a lot better about jumping around in my short shorts and were nice and supportive with each other! :)

Congratulations!! That is a great achievement!! And to finally feel good in your own skin in class instead of having to be self concious the whole time is wonderful!

I'm getting much faster at climbing, even if my legs look like they were beaten by a tiny boxer.

    That's great! Keep it up!

I remember how hard it was building up the strength for climbing, and now it's a breeze!

And remember to wear those bruises like badges of honor! ;)

So far I havent been able to pull myself back up after I get in this move. Gotta work more on my ab strength. Fell on my shoulders a couple times. I need to try to get the pole more in my knee, I tend to hold it a bit on my calf. But this is my newest success :)

Up and down this week. Joined the performance group at the studio, quite terrifying but think it will give mecmotivation to push a bit more and when i get over the nerves boost my confidence. Seem to be having grip issues again slipping a lot, more sweaty palms from nerves maybe. Managed my cartwheel for first time this week, but lost my shoulder mount and matrix, funny how things go sometimes. Generally lost courage on cross knee back drop after my fall the other week cant bring my self to straighten both legs and pull one forward grrr

I started pole dancing about 2 months ago and i had real trouble doing the chair move! I just couldnt seem to hold myself with one arm. On Thursday i managed to do it perfectly and i was so proud of myself. Just shows that you need to keep trying and dont give up :-)

    Getting stronger and loving it!!

My newest success.. I learned the butterfly. Needs alot of perfecting, as with any new trick though.

lacewitch, do you have any tips for me to get into and hold the move in your profile pic? I have such difficulty getting into it.

Hey there - v inverts require a lot of core strength
practice knee lifts and fan (or Vegas kicks) with the invert grip on the pole and keep your shoulders near your hands don't drop down into straight arm at this point
when doing the v invert keep your arms bent as you lift ( this means your butt doesn't have to travel as far). to begin come up with bent legs the straighten legs into V and straighten arms into the position once you are up. eventually you want to go up and doe in a v with straight legs - but be careful this is hard and you really need to engage (and have strong) core coming down to protect your back - i have pulled my back trying to do this before i had the strength!
make sure you look back - don't look at your hands ( arch your back) and push your butt up (and over) using your core.
also your side should stay in contact with the pole - this will help when you come to angles / Gemini/ Scorpio moves
there are some tricks where you twist slightly and rest one thigh against the pole but i could never figure it out

hope this helps and good luck

take it slow and build up strength!

you can also try taking legs off the pole in a normal invert and go into a ~V to find your balance and work on holding it but be sure of your hand grip!

if in doubt have a spotter and always be confident of your grip before you do anything.

Great advice, thanks. I started doing the knee lifts and fan kicks a little while ago. I think my main issue is I need more core strength. A spotter is a good idea too, might help me get the feel for the titling back, thats the part I have problems with.

Well lacewitch, I used your tips and I got it and now that I have the feel for it I was doing it every time tonight. I focused more on making sure my knees were up and back arched before trying to tilt back, then pulling my butt up into the pole. You really made it clear what to do with every body part to get into the move and it worked :) Thanks alot.

    Nice one! Well done Fae!

I am so pleased with myself today! I had my old pole friend come round to do a bit of practise, as she hasn't been going to classes for quite a while and I decided to try out her signature move, the starburst, which I have never been able to do since starting pole. But today, I randomly was able to get it... and not just as a one off, I was able to do it again so she could take a photo of me!

I am so pleased with myself as it opens up a whole load of other moves now that I can work on that start the same way! :)

    Awesome, well done you!

I survived the christmas showcase last night at the studio and didn't die of nerves when it came to our groups turn, everyone was amazingly brave to do the routines in front of an audience:)

Last week was lay back to crescent and butterfly. On butterfly the pole started spinning and I thought I was going to fall but I had a spotter thank goodness...it made me feel so strong to FINALLY get that butterfly :-P

I managed to do a flag! Woo hoo ( anything with a split grip bottom hand thumb pointing down is my nemesis!)

Plus managed thigh hold - bird - Flatline- star(fish) to superman combo and my superman didn't look like a super villain as I had straight legs and a smile on my face rather than a grimace - the pain is finally becoming bearable!
