    Wed 06/21 - TDEE: 3,806 cals, Intake: 2,500 cals, Deficit: 1,306 cals, Steps: 20,157 , Active Minutes: 181

Bad things come in threes. 1) Front left wheel on 48, weld between steel rim and hub failed and wheel woobling badly. Too much wooble to use on high profile lawns. 2) Strange squeeking chirp coming from truck while moving slowly (<20 mph). Seems to be in drivetrain somewhere. Still not sure exactly where but currently thinking seal on back of transmission or front u-joint on driveshaft.3) While looking for noise saw that dump rack welds on truck's dump bed have broken free at rear which puts entire weight of load on rear dump picot pins all the time.

Finished mows using 60 rider, other crew's 36 walk-behind, and 30 push mowers.

Temp hit 91F with heat index of 94F.

Spot welded that wheel rim back onto the 48's hub. Got most of wobble out. Just a stop gap until new wheel comes in. Just about 80% convinced squeak/chirp is coming from front u-joint, even though I get no play in the joint.

Finished day's mows in good shape.

Temp 82F with heat index of 89F.

Women folk at home (wife and daughter) picked up a new 3 month old puppy from the pound. A mastador... which is a labrador/mastiff cross. Dependents now comprise a wife, a son, a daughter, two dogs, two cats, and a bearded dragon.

Big blow came through at noon just as we finished the last mow of the week. We had some odd jobs to do after lunch but called it a day as the storm unleashed.

Scary drive home. South bound in center lane of six lane divide highway with concrete center barrier and sideways rain in 40 - 50 mph crosswinds when a white SUV 20 to 30 yards ahead starts fishtailing. The SUV does a couple of 360s and then slams into the center barrier hard on the passenger quarter panel. (By now I've moved over to the far right lane and half onto the shoulder.) The SUV bounces off the barrier (as I'm staring into its headlight) still spinning until it finally straightens out, facing south bound again... right next to me! The SUV, now more or less under control, continues to slow and drifts back over to the center barrier and stops (now in my rear view mirror). My rig is too big to pull over on the center shoulder so I have no choice but to plow on through the deluge.

So much rain and wind, I swear the water on the road was white capping.

(I might have stress eaten a little bit... like a whole package of gummy bears (800 calories).

Odd jobs. Start time of 9am 'cause it is Satuday after all. Cleaned up two and a half medium size storm downed Bradford Pears at one client. Two guys, one chainsaw, one truck (two loads), three man hours. After unloading the debris on the burn pile, put match to it. While pile burned, started coolant flush on cabover, While fushing cabover, dropped driveshaft out of my work truck... yup, bad front u-joint. Replaced rear seal on transfer case while driveshaft was out. Knocked out and replace front and rear u-joint. Re-installed driveshaft and greased new u-joints. Drained cabover after flush and replaced lower radiator hose and refilled coolant. Pile burned down nicely so called it a day. 8 hours 30 minutes.

    Rest and refeed.

The son and I fired up the melt forge again. First 30 minutes on diesel and then switched over to waste oil. Worked great!

We ran almost two hours and were almost done with the melt when I poked a hole in the side of our last crucible (stainless steel kitchen canister) with the spaghetti spoon dross skimmer, even being as gentle with it as I knew how.

OK, Three times is enough. No more melts until we come up with a more durable crucible.

Normal Tuesday... except for the chips and chive dip I inhaled after reaching my calorie goal for the day. And then the handful of garlic croutons. And then an apple to make the overage a little healthier. Yeah... that works.

Odd jobs. Dropped 18 bags of fert, one school campus to finish week's mow list, and three shrub trims.

Two day weekend off... except for mowing the shop, changing out the leaking oil drain on my 48, grease a dry bearing on their 36, weld diagonal braces on the left rear rail of my trailer, and paint the rear gates on the white Isuzu. (My son should get my yard mowed and string trimmed, so that one is not on my to-do list.)

Well, I got the shop mowed and my son got my yard mowed and trimmed. There may be hope for the rest of my weekend to-do list this afternoon.

Did nada all day. Got roped into puppy sitting until my daughter came home around 4 pm and by then I had lost my work mojo.

No worries. The to-do list will wait.

Fairly normal Monday plus a handful of Tuesday yards. Idea is to work through 7/4 while mowing a few extra everyday and get Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.

Right now listening to rain driping down roof gutters sitting on front porch drinking morning coffee while puppy wrestles with older dog (cats won't play).

Rainout. (so much for a three day weekend.)

Went in anyway and changed oil on two trucks and four mowers. Greased the bearing on the 36. Replaced the leaking oil drain and welded up a frame crack on my 48 that I noticed on Monday. All mowers got a good wash down before shutting down for the day.

Spent rest of day puppy sitting while family went to in-laws for fireworks.

Hope everyone had a safe fourth.

Got all of four yards mowed before being rained out, again. Yeah... that three day weekend is now down to a day and a half if we are lucky.

Well, at least this gave me and my son a chance to run by the local steel supply and pick up some thick wall steel pipe (4.5 in) and a bit of thick flat bar. enough to make three durable crucibles for $20.

We spent the rest of the afternoon cutting and welding on one crucible. I still need a wedge shaped hand mall to compress the weld to make it liquid tight ('cause I ain't no welder and the mig welder we have at the shop is a Harbor Freight POS).

Thinking we might take the remaining steel to a local fabricator and see what it will cost to have them knock out another prettier one.

Mowed two school campuses to finish the week's list. Done by 1 pm.

Couldn't stopping eating when I got home for lunch. Was able to keep dinner down to just three tacos but then inhaled an entire Honeydew melon by myself.

Mowed the shop and tried to fix the weld on new crucible. Leak is now just a slow weap. After two hours full of water sitting on a paper towel, only two small damp spots on the towel. Still, bought a 2.5 lb blacksmith hammer with a cross peen. Will try working the weld down next time we get a chance to fire the forge.

Lost the engine on my 60. Knew it was having issue as it would occasionally smoke on startup but was crossing fingers it would make it through the season. Close to midday when it stated tapping alarmingly and smoking continuously. Guessing something to do with an exhaust valve.

Anyway, Got a loner and finished the day. New engine is 4-5 days out. Hoping we can do the swap over the weekend.
