My name is Donna. I'm a petite 5' 2" 59 year old who will become a pre-senior in October this year. Since last October I been working on my birthday present to myself. To be in the best shape possible for me. That involves primarily strength training as well as cooking & eating good quality food. It also involves getting regular mammograms & colonoscopies. I believe in maintaining a healthy life style.

2012 was a difficult year watching one of my two siblings die slowly from cancer. He had a rare form of cancer which blocked his small intestine. He basically starved to death over a 6 month period. He was 57. My remaining brother is his twin.

My late brother teased me about becoming a pre-senior. He predicted I would live into my 80s. I don't know about that since both parents died in their 70s, but I want to be fit & healthy to be the very end.

I think about a man I met 19 years ago when my husband & I moved to our house. The 79 year man rode his bike down the street each day. He kept going until the very end. I also think about my late brother who squeezed every bit of living out of his life. He would get his friends & us to escort him to his garden areas & look over his beloved plants. Fitness is not an option, it is essential.

Hi and Welcome Donna! It going to be great having you here and we both run TUFF group that Sherry (this group's founder/admin) is familiar with, too. As a matter of fact, she is one of our group members at TUFF:happy:

You are well on your way to making that "birthday present" to yourself!!

    Welcome Donna!

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your sibling. How young, and what a sad wake-up call. I am fortunate enough to still have both of my siblings. I am also fortunate enough to live in a place where people work well past "retirement" age, into their 80's regularly. The city center is full of people aged 70s and 80s and up. I suspect it is not only the Mediterranean diet, but also the high activity level that keeps them going. I am also fortunate enough to have experience with one of the world's rare "blue zones". In fact, it is our August vacation spot, except it'll just by DH and son this year. I'll be staying away with my lil girl this year...because it is a rather "rough" place to live, very rugged for a 2 year old. Most certainly it is this "rough, ruggedness" that keeps people active and going into their 90s and beyond. I have learned that these people don't need to lift a single weight or power up a single treadmill, to live a long and healthy life. But since I want to look as young as I can for as long as I can, I'll be taking extra measures of planned exercise as much as life allows.

Welcome to the group. You can check-in daily here, even on rest days, to keep yourself accountable and to meet some great folks and learn about other workouts and programs that they are doing.

Hi. My name's Jen and I'm a 27yo first time mum to my beautiful 7 month old daughter. I live in Melbourne Australia. I made the decision a couple of years ago to switch to a healthier lifestyle. Having lost and kept off over 10kg, I now have only a couple of kgs to go. My goal is to get under 60kg. I love to work out and do some sort of workout every day (usually in my lounge room with my little girl). I also love to walk and have been taking my daughter swimming at least once a week for the last few months. As I make up my own workouts I am always looking for new inspiration and would love to help inspire others to challenge themselves too.

    Hello Everyone

My name in Angie I live in the Midwest.

I'm a mother of 3 and ready to take me back. I have been on my fitness/health journey since the beginning of this year. I have made great strides and passed many goals set for myself. But I'm not quite to where I can sit back and hit maintenance mode. I'm looking for an active group that can help me get to the maintenance goal.

I workout pretty much daily between being stay at home mom, soccer mom, teacher at church and baby sitter.

    Welcome Angie!

You've come to the right place. We're all looking to give and to receive daily accountability, motivation, and inspiration. I encourage everyone to check-in daily, even if it is a rest day, vacation, or just plain ole lazy day. Accountability isn't only for the days that we workout...it's also for the days that we don't workout (that's when accountability matters the most).

Jump right in on the daily threads!

Hi Angie...you've joined a very active group where most of us do check in daily to give account of our day per se.

Hi everyone. Was just browsing through the groups trying to find one that is active & supportive and this one looks awesome.

I'm Laura. I'm 44 (for a few more weeks anyway). I signed up for MFP end of December but didn't commit to it for a couple of months. My newsfeed tells me today is day 205 of logging.

This year I discovered, to my great surprise, that I love to work out. I see a trainer three times a week (for 30 minutes), I run 3 days a week (started C25K in May and just finished 5K-to-10K on Saturday), I do some kind of cardio cross-training one day a week, I take a Pilates or Zumba class once a week, and I try to sneak in as many lunch-time walks as I can during the work week. Typically Fridays are my rest days.

I guess I am a bit late on the "welcome" but you have really come to a great group here. It is hard to find a daily-active group so supportive and encouraging.

Hi I'm Cassie. I'm 22 and wanting to get my life back on the healthy track. For a while last year I was all gung-ho for working out and eating healthy and then February hit and I got a new job and started having heel/ankle pains so the workouts I was doing (Power 90) fell to the wayside. My eating habits have, honestly, been atrocious lately because I've been so wrapped up in wedding plans and such (excuses, excuses). Now that I'm happily married, I'm determined to get back on track but I know I'll need the help of staying accountable and having others around in the same boat as me. My husband supports me but he's not interested in working out and doesn't need to lose any weight. So here I am! Day 1 of my new life!

Hi Cassie! Welcome and Congratulations on your marriage!

You've come to the right place. All you have to do is commit to checking-in every day (whether you workout that day or not) and let that accountability carry you towards your goal. :)

MFP has been the best thing that could ever happen to me with regard to health and fitness. Having a group to share with, vent to, and befriend has really made a difference for me. I've learned tons from everyone. In fact, since working out and being in the group, I've become a real runner, I've started lifting weights, and since I bought a weight bench and barbell set, my husband is finally joining me too. Two nights in a row he's spotted for me and helped watch my form, etc. But there are ladies here who workout completely on their own and are full of tips and trick for getting it done.

It really is the first day of the rest of your life. :-)

Hey everbody, I'm Meg. I'm 28 and I live in Los Angeles with my husband and dog M.C. Hammer. I work in the entertainment industry. I started therapy in February and have finally reached a point where I feel like I don't need to / deserve to carry my extra weight around anymore. I was very active and fit through high school and my early twenties. I am 5'2 and I would like to lose around 75 lbs - though my ultimate goal is just to be fit, healthy and able to take on more physical challenges. I would like to lost most of that weight by my birthday at the end of March, though I have built a routine for myself that takes me through August 1st, 2014.

Would love more friends - open diary and have a fitblr - so feel free to add me!

    Here's what I am doing:

    October 1st 2013 - November 11th, 2013
Weekdays: Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (AM)

    Level 1: 10/1 - 10/14
    Level 2: 10/15 - 10/28
    Level 3: 10/29 - 11/11

    November 12th 2013 - March 28th 2014
Weekdays only: Jillian Michaels Body Revolution

    Phase 1: 11/12 - 12/21, 1/2 + 1/3
    Phase 2: 1/6 - 2/14
    Phase 3: 2/17 - 3/28

    October 1st 2013 - March 28th 2014
    MTW: Evening Yoga (PM)
    Tue/Thur: Silverlake Resevoir (AM)

    October 1st 2013 - August 1st 2014
    Saturday: hiking local area hikes
    Sunday: Morning Yoga (AM)

    March 28th 2014 - August 1st 2014
    Weekdays: P90X

    Welcome Meg!!!

I love the way you have found a firm foundation from which to begin. I didn't have the help of a therapist, but did a similar thing before I started--I basically took months (a year really) of just committing, anticipating, and psyching myself up. Finding MFP and seeing Success Stories here and on youtube really sealed the deal that I knew I could DO this. It's great to have a good emotional starting point.

You have a great plan!! It just so happens that Cassie just started 30DS too! It was the first thing I did and by simply committing to under 30min/ day for 30 days, I got the ball rolling for changing my lifestyle. Way to go with that choice!

As for our little group here, we just commit to checking-in every day. I check-in whether I workout or not and that accountability saves me from getting lazy. Plus, I've made friends, had fun, and learned so very much from others. My journey continues to be shaped by this group every day. So jump right into the daily threads!

WELCOME! HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE!
