Hey team. I've been struggling to get my cardio done this week - still recovering from being sick - but I've already got 90 mins of strength training and I should end up with 120 mins at least. Calories are good. I don't know if we needed to do a punishment, as the winning team, but I do a lot of Sally squats anyway, so I think I have that covered.

    Character challenge:
Carol: I've been consumed by a few fires in my time, but I don't think I've ever risen like a phoenix from the ashes. More like a tortoise crawling out of the ashes, all blackened and burned and much the worse for wear, but still trundling on. I had a bad summer this year and I did a lot of binging, but I kept logging everything into MFP and I kept exercising as much as I could and I'm really pleased I didn't put on any weight. That has been a first for me.

Daryl: I've been encouraging my sister to get back into strength training. We used to train together in my home gym, but then I wasn't so well and she took a break. I've been encouraging her to get back into it and helping her with her form.

    Week 6 through Thursday:

    Cardio: 260/140
    Strength: 20/85
    Calories: under for the week.
    Character Challenge:
Carol: like zombieinkpot, I sure don't feel like a Phoenix and when my life went completely off the rails a year ago I did gain half my weight back. I was so depressed/angry/scared that my health and fitness just was so not important to me. Once things settled down (and we get flare ups from the situation too often-like yesterday) I realized I wasn't doing anybody any good and that I was a much happier person and better able to handle the stress when I ate better and got my workouts in. I am still trying to lose the weight but I do think some of the scale weight is from muscle since I'm lifting much more now. All my clothes (except for two pairs of shorts that were a little snug when I bought them!) still fit but I feel better mentally seeing a lower number.

Daryl: I've been encouraging my kids to eat better and exercise and it's really taken hold with my younger son. He's turned into quite the gym rat so now it's making him see he has to eat properly. We talk workouts and supplements all the time and when we are together we workout. The older one doesn't exercise but he has shifted to eating better quality food and looks at his father vs me and realizes if he's not going to exercise, he has to manage his food. He lives in a fraternity house and got sick of take out so went out and bought cooking supplies and now cooks several times a week. He and I talk food and recipes!

Hey everyone! I am definitely going to need some help this week (sorry). I only have 58 mins of cardio in so far. I will be working out a little Saturday morning (I hope) but I dont think it will be enough.

You can have my extra cardio. I may need some strength minutes. I'm gonna get a workout in on Saturday but my lifting sessions aren't that long and I will be using a hotel gym and who knows what my options will be!

I've done LOADS of cardio this week that it's crazy. I've practically done two weeks worth in one. I've been catching up on my challenges on my blog as well as focusing on my cardio here and just trying to beat the speed on the treadmill. My highest speed at the moment is 14.5 for a full minute. I want to be able to reach 16 by the end of this year. Anyway, here is my figures.

1920 Cardio dividing by 2 for both Zombieinkpot and I
360 Strength not added to Zombieinkpot's because she was successful

    MisterDazzler
    Cardio: 960/140
    Strength: 360/85
    Calories: 7/7- Totally under
    Character Challenge: Carol and Daryl
    Punishment: 4 times

    Zombieinkpot
    Cardio: 960/140
    Strength: 120/85
    Calories: 7/7- Totally under
    Character Challenge: Completed

Team I was a huge disappointment this week. I just wasn't feeling that great and was super busy and run down with work. I apologize.

All I have this week is 58 cardio minutes and no strength so I will definitely need some help.

I was under calorie goal 6/7 days though so at least I need something right lol

    1. Be retrospective like Carol : talk to your team about a fire in your life or smoke you saw that "consumed" you and made you rise like a phoenix from the ashes in a new direction, especially if this story relates to health and fitness like a sport's injury or regaining weight you had lost.

This made me realize that I'm damn lucky. I have little ups and downs, stressful days at work, small worries but thankfully no major issues or serious catastrophes. My knees hurt too much to run more than a couple of miles but so what, I can hike & enjoy doing it. My shoulder mobility is limited due to an old injury so I can't hold a barbell behind my head but so what, I can use dumbbells & kettlebells or do front squats & zercher squats.

    2. Be determined and optimistic like Daryl and encourage someone in your own life who is experiencing difficulties in reaching their goals or is having similar setbacks.

My husband is diabetic & doesn't get enough sleep. Lack of sleep is really bad for diabetics. He's like a little kid who wants to stay up late tho so I switched his late night coffee to decaf. & he's been hitting the hay an hr. earlier. Shhh don't tell him, bwaa haa haaa.

    1. Be retrospective like Carol : about 5 years ago I lost someone really close to me, that was kind of the beginning of my extreme weight gain. 150lbs in 3 years :( but my phoenix moment is now I suppose. Since June I've been succeeding at rising from the ashes and don't plan on stopping.

    2. Be determined and optimistic like Daryl : I encouraged a friend to start c25K and we worked on a few meal plans to increase his protein and vegetables.

    Totals:

    Cardio 205 /140
    Strength 87/ 85
    Calories - Yes
    Character challenge - Yes

With my weight-loss I didn't expect my asthma to get worse, but it did. This made me use my rescue inhaler a lot. I still exercised but not with the same intensity, which started the cycle of bad feelings and bad food choices. I did gain weight but not all of it, I spoke with doctor had my medicine changed and starting to feel better. It is not the weight-loss that is the goal or the end. It is what you learn along the way. I am back and stronger!

    2. Be determined and optimistic like Daryl and encourage someone in your own life who is experiencing difficulties in reaching their goals or is having similar setbacks.
Encouraging my husband to continue with his exercise plan, and healthy choices for food items.

I guess it's over for another round. You were all so inspiring and kept me and the others motivated. We definitely dominated this season and I hope you each made progress towards your personal goals. It was great to get to know all of you and I hope you'll all return in February. Merry Christmas and see you all in 8 week's.
