Hi, I am a newbie to the whole low carb high protein high fat way of eating. I am starting this today. I was injured a year ago and waiting for spinal surgery, so no real exercise for me and I am gaining weight. I want to lose weight and get healthy again and I am sure the weight loss will make my recovery easier. My main issue will be that I hate meat...sigh.. any help will be so greatly appreciated...recipes, meal plans, books you like. I really want to succeed at this. Thank you!

Welcome to the group! Believe me this woe is a relearning of everything you've ever known about eating! Begin with the Launch Pad, at the top of the group forum. It's full of many of the things you need to know to be successful with this is woe! I have personally had so many physical improvements in a short time (I am considered to be a newbie too) that it will be my woe for life! Good luck! Read, read, read! These great people here have compiled the information in the Launch Pad to help us get the best start and knowledge is power!

You'll learn to find meats you enjoy. And, it will get a lot easier. The main thing is to not give up at the start. It will take a little adjustment and getting used to. Your tastes and preferences will change. A couple years ago, I would have been horrified at the things I eat now. Heck, sometimes I am still horrified by the things I eat now. lol

I was never a big meat eater before this either, but within weeks I was craving it like crazy. Steak is one of my staples now, and I hated it before. My advice to everyone is to scour Pinterest for LCHF meal ideas while you're starting out. I never would have made it through the first month without it. And be sure to get extra sodium!

Gary Taubes' Why We Get Fat is a good, very informative read, and I'm halfway through Phinney and Volek's The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Eating. Also very informative.

You didn't mention whether you like cheese or eggs. Cheese has fat and protein and low carb..

Hi, I am not thrilled with eggs, but I have always been a cheese addict....LOVE the stuff! I had eggs scrambled in butter with some cheese for breakfast today.

I have a huge shopping list for this morning!

I'm not huge on plain eggs but you can throw SO many lchf things into eggs to make them amazing! Eggs with cheese and bacon. Eggs cracked inside a prosciutto lined muffin tin and baked. Eggs with sausage and lc veggies. Mmmmmmm. Keep your chin up and pyah through those first few days. You'll probably crave carbs like mad but once you get into the swing of things you'll feel like a million bucks!

Welcome! So sorry about your injury. Hopefully this way of eating will help. Good luck with your surgery.

I know when I switched from using oil in the pan to using butter in the pan, I suddenly started enjoying eggs again. :)

Welcome to the group! Are you going to do Ketogenic? Or just low carb? (50-150 grams carb@day)

Just to let you know, I lost 78 lbs and didn't do any exercise. I am doing regular Ketogenic.

Since MFP doesn't have an easy way to search through previous posts, I captured/saved many of the links to the discussions and my personal blogs. Here are a bunch of them:
