OK Jakess1971, thanks for "headsup." I'll give it go. It might be exactly what I need to light my fire.

Alright, sign me up. Gives me a push to get on the trainer which I detest.

All added in Jenn, details harvested from previous challenge and invite to the club sent.

This looks like a fun way for a little extra motivation during the winter months!
I would like to join you all again but need to make sure my Garmin/Strava is working/tracking calories properly while spinning before I can actually sign up. Should know within the next couple of days.
I unfortunately can't currently run Zwift as my laptop died and my desktop is right above my downstairs neighbor's bedroom (My 1 time spinning in that room only lasted 10min before they called and complained!).

I'm in https://www.strava.com/athletes/2880867 also do we need to change Strava over to Metric since we are just using calories more or less other than the bonus points?

Added in and invite to the club sent. Yep, no change required for this challenge.

This is a good point, I think the basic rule should be: put the calories down in the logging thread but they should not exceed the number specified in the Strava link, generally Strava over-estimates.

Assuming this issue with Strava still exists, the problem is going to be that for anyone that doesn't have powermeter or smart trainer, they are going to have to use their Garmin (or whatever) to record data for trainer rides. When they upload that data to Strava the calorie data will get stripped out and Strava will show 0 calories burned.

Could always add a screen shot to Strava of the original Garmin Connect data showing cals burned. :)

Seems like that might be a great workaround. Good idea!

Granted if Strava is clearing calorie data in some cases this could be a royal pain in the *kitten*.

As far as I'm concerned as long as the cals are clearly stated in the logging thread and proof is in the Strava entry then personally I'm fine with this, just please no screen shots in the logging thread.

I'm sure no one is going to go to the trouble of photoshopping screen shots to alter cal counts, play nicely or bugger off! lol Sharp eyed admins can tell you know, I'm sure everyone who's signed up so far on here wouldn't do anything so daft, honestly what's the point, it's just a bit of fun, motivation and a little competition between friends with a common interest.

This is calorie based challenge by turning a crank over Winter aimed at helping us keep fit or get fitter during this off-season.

I'd like to do this. I'll be using a cycle class bike that is technologically advanced... I just need to do a test ride with my Garmin, since I've never used my watch indoors without GPS. From the TdF Challenge in July, I already have my Garmin account linked to Strava, so hopefully it's seamless.

Or you could even add a picture of the calories burned screen on your watch :)

I think it makes sense to allow registrations up to a couple of weeks in, after that we shall shut it off, adding in back entries would become a bit much after that so I'm setting the final registration date for new comers for Monday 16th November. Again we are looking at a max of 40 if we reach that figure which I doubt.

certainly doing better than last year (14 signups, 11 of whom actually ended up riding) - I think you're advertising/promotion skills are much better than I can muster Jason, maybe you'd like to stir up some interest in the Classics Challenge as well next year - it fell a little flat this year I'm afraid - mainly due to my own failure to "engage" with it a bit more :(

To be fair you had a little bit more to worry about Mark, hopefully between us we can keep these challenges ticking over nicely for some years to come.

Dahamac was asking if teams would be part of this challenge, this set me thinking, when we started the ball rolling on this a couple of days ago we thought we'd be lucky to gather 10 of us together, in theory now we have 28 registrations or more it's easy enough to divide into 4 teams of up to 10 in each team (I know we have a max of 7 in grand tour teams),

Say Yey or Nay if you'd like to see this with any suggestions for team names, I'm quite happy to go with the Grand Tour team names to carry on that tradition.

    >>>
    Pastana
    Team Pie
    Twinkie Scoff
    MFP-Lotta Jumbos

Apart from the odd exception like people who have had heart issues recently (mentioning no names :) ) team members would be seeded and grouped according to the 2015 Strava stats.

Does this require changing the UoM back to metric on Strava? Cuz TBH, I don't wanna do that. As petty as it may seem, I have other challenges going on where I am tracking miles and for me that at a minimum, takes 2 and sometimes 3 rides a day, it's a bit of a pain to convert the measurement for logging.

EDIT: Nevermind. I just saw Jakes response above so if I can keep the same UoM, I am in.

it's Me (and the Velominati) that insist on Km's and Metres... None of that matters anyway, seeing as the challenge is pretty much predicated on Calories in any case.

I'd rather it weren't a team challenge to be honest, the Winter challenge was more a challenge for me to ride more in the winter than I would otherwise and that's my only aim....and I don't want to feel like I'm letting others down...
