So I was looking to start a thread here where we can all just chat about whatever and get to know each other better. When you post tell a little about yourself and propose a question for the following person to answer. You have to answer it yourself first though!
I will start....
I'm a single mom of two working full time as a preschool teacher.
I have done various LC diets for over 12 years, always with great success but then go off for one reason or another. Currently I'm following Keto and have to make this a complete lifelong change. Over the last few years I've been diagnosed as prediabetic (likely full blown type two) and also having Fibromyalgia.
What is your go to exercise when you are lacking motivation?
Mine is walking.
Who's next?

Hiya - I am a single mum of one, currently not working due to my son having special needs so I am a full time carer for him - I am not currently diagnosed with anything other than Depression which I have suffered with for over 25 years on and off, have been overweight all my life, but this past December I got to the heaviest I had ever been and knew I had to do something or else I would end up with Diabetes (it runs in the family).
Started out in January doing Calorie counting, although was losing I was struggling with constant cravings and found this forum and started to research LCHF woe, which I started in mid February - have found it much easier but still was having binge problems, so 1st July decided to take it one step further and am now doing ZC which I love (although still have some binge problems they are less) - I have found this ZC WOE has improved my depression hugely in so much as I have finally come off all meds (even though I am going through very stressful times at the minute).
I love this forum and it is helping me find friendship and support in an otherwise lonely way of life - I am very isolated where I live at the minute.
I haven't really found an exercise I love yet, but once we have settled into our new house I am going to look at trying Yoga and also want to start weight training too.19 -
Just for @kathrout1973 above, I offer this little video about Yoga.
Hi, @Procoffeenator. Nice idea for a thread. I'm a few years into blissful retirement and just last year moved from Montana to north-central Pennsylvania, mostly to be near to family in my dotage. I built my dream retirement home here on a mountain top and love sitting on my front porch watching the deer and their fawn on my front yard at dawn and again at sunset. There are only four full time residents up on this mountain and since we all have acreage we can't see nor hear one another. The other dozen plots have hunting cabins and the owners may come up on weekends now and then. Quite peaceful, actually.
I've been happily divorced for 33 years and vowed to never let another man into my life for as long as I lived and breathed. And I stuck to that promise, too. Right up until a month ago. I met Jim when I moved here and just wasn't interested. Jim convinced me otherwise (he was very persistent) and things are progressing quite nicely, thank you. It's quite convenient that Jim is one of the other full time residents on the mountain.
After a young life of being slim, I started packing it on in my 40s and 50s. I did Dr. Atkins about 20 years ago and dropped to 185. Packed that all back on. About three years ago I worked myself down to 207, again with Dr. Atkins. Yup, packed that all back on, too. This is my first time doing LCHF and it is much easier, especially since I'm basically a carnivore. Besides, we now have all the Keto websites with recipes and suggestions to help with variety and deliciousness.
My question to everyone is how do you decide whom to "friend" here and what would make you "unfriend" someone?
Answering my own question: I friend people who aren't afraid to be real, who don't already have hundreds of friends, and with whom I think there will be something I can relate to. I'll unfriend people who don't log in, who constantly make excuses, who have a negative attitude, or who accept my support but seldom offer support in return.
My best to all,
Adell

I lost my post!
@kathrout1973 I had written this long post in response and my phone cut out on me!
Stress is a huge factor for me to keep in consideration. It's why I like the spoon theory so much. Every day you wake up with so many spoons to use throughout the day. You use them for stressful times or things that take your energy away. You only have so many and when they are gone there are no more till tomorrow.
I wear my bracelets as a reminder for use throughout the day.
One says spoon: so I ask myself if something is really worth spending a spoon on.
One says earth: reminds me to plant my feet and center myself. Be aware of my surroundings.
My turtle: this is calming to me. I have two pet turtles at home. I could sit for hours watching them swim around. It's my relaxation thing.

@PamamaJane Your home sounds wonderful!! I'd love to have a place like that!!
Isn't it amazing how life throws curveballs like that? Glad you found a person to make you happy!! I'm on the fence. I am not ever going to look for a late again. When the time is right they will find me. Nuff said.
I friend people who have a good sense of humor and can joke about our oops moments. I will accept friend requests as they come but like you said, supportive, persistent and of course have the ability to laugh and joke about life. No negativity please!!3 -
Heloo! I'm Leana - I'm 23 and currently I'm a student studying from home. I take care of my dad (well I cook and clean for him so I sort of took over my mother's job when she passed away 4 years ago).
4 years ago, due to the way I was raised mostly I was quite a bit overweight. I lost 30lb counting calories and then took a break. But when I wanted to start again I just couldn't. I would "mini-binge" up to maintenance each time. The cravings were bad! And I LOVE sweets and chocolate.
I "accidentally" started doing LCHF lol and so far I'm loving it. Learning new ways of cooking old favourites is lots of fun!
We live on a farm in a small little town. Not an animal farm, but one that produces one of South Africa's staples, maize...why...why are you guys looking at me like that??.... It's not my fault I swear!!! I don't even eat the stuff!
Anyway jokes aside my dad's retired so he has a lease contract for our land with someone else who works it.
My favourite exercise is walking, because I'm so "walking-fit" that I can walk for 3 hours straight, particularly when I'm excited, my mind zones out and my legs just won't stop working. So effortless.
I have an interesting question for you all! If you could choose any animal to represent you which one would you choose?
I'd go for a cat... Just because I love my kitties and their so elegant and chilled.11 -
@ProCoffeenator , what a great idea for a thread. And, thanks for sharing the spoon theory. I'd never read of it before.
I'm involuntarily retired (downsized, laid off, let go) and a couple years out finds me still struggling toward blissful. No matter how awful your job or boss, losing a job really is one of life's big stressors. Many a day I'd think, "Damn, I wish I didn't have to do this," but would show up and give 120% anyway. The emotions around my dismissal have been interesting.
I've been married forever to a wonderful guy who cheerfully refuses to give up any bad habit. The whole lead by example thing is completely lost on him. But, he's my biggest cheerleader in any endeavor so I'll keep him.
Lower carb has been my style of eating since I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia about 20 odd years ago. It's never been good for weight loss because I still allowed for some sauces and I always went back to bread, pasta and rice because I fed it to my family. When I see the LC and Keto blogs now and the authors feeding their families what they eat I do indeed slap myself upside the head.
To answer @panamajanetj2014 , I don't friend or unfriend anyone here precisely because I hate that whole proclamation thing. It's also why I dropped out of Facebook. In real life you can practice the social niceties without having to declare, You are worthy of my attention. When that worthy person becomes tiresome you just stop engaging without an official banishment. We are all very sensitive creatures.11 -
Oh shoot, I forgot to ask a question and I took so long to respond, I should've to @Shadowmf023 !
So, I'd be a turtle if I had to be an animal. They seem so serene and they live a really long time.
My question is, what is your stretch goal for 2016?
Mine is to complete a 5k walk/running. I have it on my calendar, have announced it everybody and purchased the sneakers (the theme is pink) for it in October. This event is an hour from my house so coordinating it will be a Big Thing but I'm going for it.4 -
@ShelJomfp - my goal is to try and finish studying this year. Lol. Apart from that, try and keep to a regular strength training routine. I HATE strength. But I know I need to get a bit stronger. We don't have a gym here. So I need to work out on my own at home.6
-
@Shadowmf023 ha! I love your question!!
I'd say an ant. Does that count? Often overlooked and sometimes thought of as a pest (I have a big personality) but I am capable of carrying a heavy load and can do some really amazing things!6 -

My animal would be an Eagle - to fly so high that I can rule the skies would be awesome1 -
I'm 38... married, mom of 2 boys who are 12 and 15. Live in ever sunny Southern California and love it. Wouldn't move back to Washington State if you paid me...might if my parents needed care, though (but I'd prefer to move them to me in honesty). My initial spur to weight loss was being told I needed back surgery but that I needed to lose some weight before the doc would do it. I calorie counted and IIFYM'd for most of my weight loss, all but the last 30 lbs or so came off that way. Then our doctor told my husband about low carb (100g max per day) and we both went for it together because it's just easier when you're both on the same page!
I love to run, but am currently injured so I don't at this time
I have arthritis in my back, so running without pain is difficult but I do it anyway
I miraculously don't need back surgery since losing the weight, gee.
I think the last question was "what's your stretch goal for 2016" - mine is to complete a half marathon. I have my eye on the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon in December but I actually may have to push it back to the Carlsbad Half in January due to this dang injury - or even the Encinitas half in March. Which is actually OK with me, I'd rather race in one piece than try to train or race through an injury!
My question... hmm... what's your very most favorite low carb recipe (or thing to cook if you usually just throw stuff together)?2 -
I want to answer this one tooShadowmf023 wrote: »

Turtles are my favorite animal, but if I had to pick one to represent me I would pick a dog: best friend you'll ever have, and loyal almost to a fault.2 -

Great idea!
I'm Kat, 27, married with a 3yr old girl
Background is my almost whole family (I'm talking mum, dad, brother, grandmother and father, uncle, aunty...) All have type 1 diabetes. My dad and I both have type 2. I developed it when I was 15. I have always struggled to gauge the seriousness of having this disease, I think due to never seeing family members dealing with it properly either.
i had been married for 2 months and my mum got diagnosed with end stage ovarian cancer. The doctors said she had a few weeks left with us.
Its been 11 months now without her getting any treatment and literally waiting to die. It took this long for something to click in me and realise I don't want to end up like her. (Always had health problems related to diabetes) I never want to be that out of tune with my own body that I don't realise something is not right, until its too late.
I've always been overweight. But after I had my daughter, I stayed on the insulin I was taking while pregnant and used this as an excuse to eat anything I wanted. I ballooned to my heaviest at 109kg.
So now I've been on this woe for 8 weeks I think and lost 11kg. I couldn't be happier and will keep going until I'm in a healthy weight range. I'm also almost completely off insulin, just tablets.
I'm gonna answer the animal one too! I'd love to be a dolphin, which sounds ridiculous and if you knew me you'd laugh. But they are always free and happy. Going and doing whatever they want, I've always been amazed.
My question is; what is the first thing that pops into your head when you're trying to stay focussed and motivated to do this ?
Over everything normal, mine is my own reaction to putting on weight or having bad BSLs. I would be devastated that I let myself down.4 -

I've been vaping for about 6 years now and make my own 0 nic juice. First thing I did when I picked up a glucometer was see if they affected my blood sugar (because it came up somewhere, I forgot where) and, nope, not a bit.
As for hating children, at least you know and now only a fool would ask you to babysit, right?

Yeah, I was curious about the VG myself. However, I've talked to many vapers who eat keto, and none have had problems, even running things like 95% VG blends.
I'd be fine babysitting, assuming that they wanted to get their children back in a much better behaved state. Fearing for one's life can make them be quiet.4 -
I'm Donna and I have two girls - 11 and 16. My older is here on MFP now...@Sohma16. Rowdy, as many of you know is my wonderful significant other. We've been together about 19 months now. We live in East Texas on 34 acres of the most beautiful land. It's my favorite place to be in the world! We have 3 ponds on the land, one stocked nicely for fishing. We have 5 dogs at the moment (that number always seems to be in flux and I clearly will never be down to just one again!) We have a cat, a horse, a 75 gallon fresh water fish tank and now two raccoons - up til Friday we only had one.
We also have a pig but he goes in the food column, not the pet column. One of these days we'll have chickens so we can get our own eggs - as many eggs as I (and now my daughter eats) we need the chickens to save money. We have an area for target practice - Rowdy is an avid hunter and we eat a lot of deer meat when the season is good. There always seems to be something going on here and it's never dull. From hawks flying into our storage building carrying a dove to the plethora of venomous snakes, to finding baby birds in need of rescue, to scooting scorpions and spiders the size of saucers out of the house...nope never dull!
My hobbies tend to fall around all of the above. I do love to read though and like @Gallowmere1984 I'm a geeky gamer. We have friends over about once a month and still tabletop RPG. For the record my very ungeeky Rowdy doesn't play, nor does my not so geeky youngest - sometimes I'm not sure she wasn't switched at birth. She's all girly and prissy and avoids everything geekish - sigh, where did I go wrong?!
I used to travel extensively for work so I've been to more states than I can count but in the last year or so I've worked primarily from home, which I love. I'm an RN but I have my Masters in Healthcare Admin so I work on the business side of healthcare. I recently started my own consulting company and am in contract negotiations with a hospital. That's a huge deal for me!
I'm motivated to finally get in shape and stay that way. I want very much to never have to buy a size 18. Keto has been a new lease on life for me and I'm loving every bit of it. I LOVE to cook and learning Keto friendly recipes is fun for me.
What makes me stay motivated? Being alive and healthy for my family.
Friends here? I try to stay LCHF related - no need to explain why. I've not unfriended anyone but I'd say being mean to others would make that happen.
Representative animal? Crimeny...uh...I think frogs are cool.
Low carb fav? I loved the Oopsie bread I made yesterday. So far that.
Question: City or country life? Clearly we know my answer already3 -
Catching up....
I'm a country girl! Hate the city. I don't like the crowds, the traffic, the noise.... I could go on! I'm fine to visit or go there for things but I just can ever live there again. I grew up an hour away from Boston.
I used to be an avid gamer. LARP, Tabletop, computer... Actually it was Everquest followed by WOW. Now I live where we get internet via radio frequency... No more computer games.
Long term vision? Pain free? I want to be able to do the awesome yoga acrobatic crap!! Yeah!!5 -
I'm Sue. I got onto the scale after an alaska cruise last year and went into shock. I was heavier than ever before. I knew I had to do something. I've tried lots of other diet types, none of which worked over the long haul so weightwatchers and the like were out. LCHF worked and for the most part I could stay on it without too many issues. In 3 months I lost 25 pounds. Now comes the bad part. I got lazy and sloppy. I started to gain back what I lost. Fortunately I recognized my problem and just jumped back on.
I haven't weighed myself lately. I decided that I will weigh when my clothes feel loose. In the meanwhile, I plan on staying on program. I don't want to give that lying scale any power over me.
As far as unfriending goes.... I found that my newsfeed was stressing me out. I deleted my account, changed my name and started again. I haven't added friends since I came back but I do read the LCD every day, sometimes several times a day. There is usually something interesting going on.
What surprises me most about this WOE is how much better I feel. All my joint pain goes away. No more heart burn. Lots more energy and clarity.
My goal is to get a bike and ride the Katy trail end to end. It is 225 miles across the middle of Missouri. I'll do it in pieces, likely 30 miles or so at a time.

@ProCoffeenator - What a great idea! thanks for kick-starting this post
Hi. I am also happily divorced for many, many years ( nod & a wink to @PamamaJane ). I have 2 wonderful kids, both in their early 30's, and I am a newbie to the LCHF group and Keto woe. My long slide into my current state of un-health (morbid obesity) began in my late 30's. I did the off/on WW thing for years, but that program didnt work for me and I was ashamed of myself most of the time. Now, I know the reason - I was tracking my daily points and 'on program', BUT the bulk of my daily food was Carbs. Now,I know better. Motivated by this group, I am learning all I can about LCHF. Even though it's only been a few weeks, I am really diggin' the Keto WOE and know this is a lifestyle I can live with. YAY! I have a lot of weight to lose and health to regain, so I dont try to kid myself.... the road ahead is long. That is why I chose the Turtle to represent me and as my fellow traveler (thus my user name. Ha!).
A bit about me: I am lucky to be able to say I have enjoyed a rewarding and fun-filled tech career in various states along the east coast. I decided this was the year to retire from tech and turn my attention to something I am passionate about - jewelry making. I have always loved 'making things' and found various crafty/tactile activities to be great stress relievers. A few yrs back, I picked up a beading magazine in a check out lane, fumbled my way thru the instructions to make this gorgeous, complex beaded bracelet. There were a more than a few start-all-overs and a lot of cursing, but by the time I had a finished piece, I was totally hooked. I soon discovered I have a deep passion for wire and gemstones and pearls... Oh My! Secretly, if I had discovered this passion when I was young, I would have attended GIA and pursued a career as an artisan. Anyhow, I retired last month and I am joyfully playing jewelry artisan, every day and loving it.
Answers:
1. Friends - I have really enjoyed reading thru all the LCHF post over the past few weeks. I am not a 'confident' joiner, so I am slow to make friends. I agree with what everyone has said so far about being drawn to folks who are genuine, supportive and look to the group for advice as well as offer advice when they can.
2. Animal - yup, mr Turtle! Slow and Steady.
3. City or Country - if this could happen, as far as you could see from my back patio would be country, for my down-time at home. However, I love to be a 5 minute drive from a big City - I enjoy the hustle and bustle and lights and art and theater city life offers.
4. Long time vision - Healthy, healthy, happy, healthy grandma! (Both my kids are talking about starting a family. Fingers, toes and eyes all crossed)
My Question:
If you could go back and give yourself 1 piece of advice
1. What age would you be?
2. What would you say?
I would be 30 yrs old and I would tell myself - You have to protect your health, at all costs. Do not allow yourself to gain any more weight. Take control and figure this out, now. Be a health role model for your kids.
Thanks for chatting with me, folks.6 -
hi everyone! Thank you @ProCoffeenator for starting this thread ok so I'm going to be celebrating the first anniversary of my 39th birthday this year lol and honestly find myself in a very different place in my life that I had imagined when I was younger. I'm happily married, I have two young sons, employed full time while working on my bachelor's degree in human services (I want to be a social worker) and a part time caregiver to my 85 year old grandfather. my life is full! Being a T2D is what led me to Lc and now keto. I love it, I'm close to 20 lbs down in less than 3'months and my blood sugars are great!
I never developed a real love for gaming with exception of the Sims lol if they count. Any me time I spend with my nose in a book, that's my nerdy side . I'm not a real animal person but if I had to choose be a giraffe cuz I would love to be tall lol I'm only 4'11 If I could give myself advice I would go to my 25 year old self and plead with her not quit college. it's taking me close to a decade to graduate lol
Friends- With limited time, I have only a few true friends. I think friendships deserve time and attention so I went squander that on just anybody
City or Country-I'm more of a city person but I want to be by a beach. I could never live in a concrete jungle
Long time vision- healthy, healthy kids and with a master's degree
My questions:What is your favorite book? Do you have a favorite author?
I love all different types of genres but one of my favorite books is The Good Earth. An excellent book! A favorite author of mine is Amy Tan2 -
My favorite author is Christopher Hitchens, but to pin down a favorite book would be nigh impossible. Most of his best work is in essay format, so his collections of those are very good. His collection titled Arguably is always a good place to start.
Though, he's most well known in this area, for his book God is Not Great (How Religion Poisons Everything), which pissed off plenty in this part of the country.2 -
Great idea for a thread!
The morning of my 40th birthday I weighed myself and was shocked and upset to see I was over 300 lbs. I decided the next day I would start a new keto life, and I did. I started off eating 50 net carbs for the first 5 weeks, weight loss was pretty slow, I got impatient, tried another keto-style diet for a couple weeks, then went back to regular keto. I dropped down to 30 net carbs on the other diet, and have stayed there, and am happy to say my weight loss has picked up... I'm down 13 lbs so far in 8 weeks. I enjoy walking with a friend, but I'm not able to walk very far yet. I'm working with a physical therapist to help me with my old SI joint injury issues. I started out doing 1500 steps a day, and a week later I'm up to 2000 steps... Every little bit is progress!!
Other facts about me... I'm a friendly introvert, I live on a gorgeous rural gulf island in Canada, we own a tiny little house that is cute as a button, it's just over 600 sq ft and perfect for our little family. We have two cats who are our beloved fur-babies. I was married, divorced, single mom for awhile... Then a couple years later met and married the love of my life. We have a teenage son. For fun I watch Netflix documentaries and comedies, experiment with keto recipes, listen to story telling podcasts, sit and read on the beach in the shade (I'm very fair and burn quickly!), go on dates with the hubs, camp with my family, and have coffee with my girlfriends. My husband and I co-own a commercial hair salon. He is a very talented experienced hair stylist and I'm a very experienced administrator/bookkeeper. We make the perfect team. I went back to school a couple years ago and got a diploma in graphic design and I'm also an aspiring writer who hopes to be self published one day...
Answer to the last question about my favourite book. I don't have a favourite author or book as much as I have a favourite genre... I LOVE memoirs and true adventure stories. Some of my favourite books include It was Me All Along by Andie Mitchell, Miles from Nowhere by Barbara Savage, Twenty Miles per Cookie and What Were We Thinking by Nancy Sathre-Vogel, and anything by Bill Bryson.
My question is... If money wasn't an object, where would you move?
My answer is nowhere, I'd stay here... I love where I live and never grow tired of seeing the every changing mood of the ocean, or the rockies off in the distance. I feel very fortunate to be a Canadian.3 -
Some great new questions - adding some answers
Goals for 2016 - to find peace with myself - no longer bingeing/beating myself up over food
Long Term Vision - To enjoy life and feel healthy
City or Country - this is a difficult one if it was just me, I would say country every time, but my son doesn't cope well with being too isolated so we are aiming back towards a town life but hopefully on the outskirts so I am close enough to the country to not feel stifled
If you could give yourself advice - mine would definitely be to go back to when I was 32 and tell myself to leave my sons father (I was pregnant at the time) and he turned out to be emotionally abusive and made my life hell
Fav Book - not sure about this one, I love reading - at the minute it tends to be factual books, but I do love historical books too so Phillipa Gregory books are great too (love the Tudor era)
If money were no object - I would definitely move to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland - absolutely love the peace and quiet and to live by some of the best beaches in GB would be awesome - but would also have a house in Barbados to escape the bad weather too LOL1 -
Hello to everyone! Love this thread since we don't always take time getting to know one another!
I'm Karla. I live in extreme southeast Mississippi, close to the Gulf of Mexico. I was raised here. Have been married for almost 24 years, and have a 19 year-old son who is in college. I'm an RN, and have been for 25 years! I did take ten years off, due to some awful pain issues, but Keto has allowed me the ability to return to work (on a very part time basis, but I'm working!)!
I've struggled with obesity (morbid) my whole life, and have tried every diet along the way, without making it stick! Even had unsuccessful weight loss surgery in 2010 at my highest weight of 318 pounds! Once I found LCHF after beginning to log my food here on MFP in Feb. 2015, in another attempt to lose weight, I quickly learned the heath benefits! The weight loss became the welcome side effect to gaining a healthy body! After 17 months I'm 7 pounds from my goal weight!
In January I listed a goal for the year of being able to establish myself with a plastic surgeon! I am scheduled for surgery on August 11th! I'm amazed at the ability of LCHF to make these goals a reality!
I also am a vaper. After quitting cigarettes in 2010 I really didn't want to return to cigarettes. So, in 2013 I began vaping. This has kept me from picking up cigarettes again, so I consider it to be a win!
I can't answer every question because I don't recall them all (medication induced memory issues)! But, here goes! My favorite LCHF food is Crackling Chicken, and Ribeye steak! The animal I would be is also a giraffe (tall, and regal!) Friends here will be eliminated if they criticize my woe, or that of others! I haven't been able to exercise regularly because of the pain I experience (even the easy stuff!)!
What's your favorite LCHF vegetable?
Mine would be mushrooms, and onions, since they seem to cause the least number of side effects for me!

Fun thread! My name is Melanie, I'm 40 in a few days, definitely a motivating factor in my current weight loss journey. I've struggled with my weight and food addiction my entire life. I smoked from age 15 to 25 and just quit one day and never looked back, never ever had another cig. I always wished I could just quit eating, it seemed like it would be easier than eating "in moderation" I knew smoking in moderation never did me any good. When I realised I could just quit carbs, it changed my life.
I was born in England, grew up in Northern California, spent my adult life in Seattle, San Francisco, LA and Las Vegas and 2 years ago I moved to Scotland, where I now live in the country. I work in marketing and have been fortunate enough to work from home much of my career. I'm celebrating my 10-yr wedding anniversary in October, my husband and I have been together for 15 years, no kids, no pets right now (our doggie passed away two years ago, which is the only reason we were able to move to Scotland, we would never have left her behind or stuck her in quarantine to relocate her).
The questions thus far:
What is your go to exercise?
Hillwalking, it seems to be Scotland's go-to fitness activity, I never get tired of the views.
How do you decide who to friend here and what would make you unfriend someone?
I'm happy to be friends with any positive low carbers. I'd unfriend someone who was being mean to others.
If you could choose any animal to represent you, which one would you choose?
That's easy, a lion. I'm a Leo and am definitely the queen of my jungle.
What is your stretch goal for 2016?
Now that I'm living in the countryside with no distractions, my goal is to start and actually finish my first novel.
What is your favourite low carb recipe?
I'm not really into recipes, so I'm one of those "throw things together" people and I'm kind of into pizza in a bowl right now with mince meat, a dollop of tomato sauce, mushrooms, onions, peppers and cheese. But ask me next week and I'll have a different fav.
What is the first thing that pops into your head when you're trying to stay focused and motivated to do this?
What is my blood sugar? I'm a T2 diabetic and frequent monitoring throughout the day keeps me focused.
City or country life?
I'm a city girl loving her country life right now, but it's kind of a test to see if we can really do it. So far, so good.
If you could go back and give yourself 1 piece of advice, what age would you be and what would you say?
I'd go back to 13 year old me and tell her to put the food back in the cupboard and go for a walk, that packet of ramen and bag of chips is not going to solve your problems, but a couple of miles under your feet will give you your sanity back.
What is your favourite book? Do you have a favourite author?
Right now I'm enthusiastically revisiting Story by Robert McKee, he's a massive writing inspiration for me. I attended his writing seminar 16 years ago and his lessons have really stuck with me. I'm excited to be going to his seminar again this Fall in London, I think I'm finally ready to focus enough to get this damn book written. My fav author is Dean Koontz though, I love escaping with a good thriller.
If money wasn't an object, where would you move?
Money was an object, but I'd move to Scotland
What is your favourite LCHF vegetable?
Mushrooms, they go with everything!
And my question...
What is the one thing you look forward to the most about reaching your goal weight?
I look forward to traveling more comfortably, not worrying about the size of airline seats and having the energy to explore when I reach my destination.2 -
It's a Marvelous Monday!! For those of us worker bees the first day of the work week.
Let's keep our chat going!!
What was your camel straw moment that made you decide to finally lose weight?
Who or what is your motivation?
My camel straw was knowing my health was deteriorating. This itself should have been my straw but it wasn't. What got me was the day I was outside with all the kids at work and one came up to me "Miss Jenn? Are you having a baby?" Umm... Nope. "Oh! So you are just really fat then." The baby comment is no big deal, it's was the just really fat comment that hit home.
Motivation is my health. If I don't push myself to succeed it's going to be a downward spiral. I've got two kids depending on me, a 10yo and a 4yo.2 -

My camel-straw was pain. I had bulging discs in my lumbar spine impinging the nerve root so I also had numbness in my foot, and surgery was the "only answer" but I was told I had to lose weight first. Since losing over 100 lbs, 2 of the 3 discs no longer bulge and the 3rd one is much smaller - and surgery is no longer on the table as an option because it is now deemed "unnecessary!!!"
I will say, though, it took a while for the pain to be enough of a motivator! I received that ultimatum almost 6 months before I finally took the plunge and logged into MFP.
My motivation is my kids. I want to be around for them as long as humanly possible - not just around, but active and engaged. Especially as they are getting older (teens now, how did that happen?!?!). I grew up with a fairly absentee father (we lived on a dairy farm so he worked LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG days out in the barns and fields) and an obese mom who physically couldn't do much with us, and I don't want that for my kids. My husband is a workaholic and even though he's lost 65 lbs so far he's still morbidly obese and has little interest in breaking from work to be involved in ACTIVE thing with the kids (he'll take them to do things HE likes to do - movies, mostly - but isn't interested in THEIR interests) so it mostly falls to me.

The camel straw moment for me was realising I had got to 21st, and felt awful - I wanted to do so much with my life but here I was at 43 and reaching the heaviest weight I had ever been, looking at photos I looked awful and it finally hit home that I hated the way I was treating myself.
My motivation is feeling better in myself and being able to look after my son (who has a lot of special needs) for as long as I possibly can. A lesser motivation is to look good in clothes I have bought in a shop not designed for fat people.
The one thing I look forward to most about losing the weight is shopping for clothes that look fab and feel great - I am a wacky crazy person who loves bright clothes and until recently a lot of clothes I saw out and about for fat people were frumpy and dull, I want to be able to wear bright fun clothes3 -
Good morning! I'm Jess and I'm a 29 year-old native San Diegan. My hubs and I have been together for 9 years, no kids with no plans for kids (ever), and two cats, Duchess and The Ghost of Stonewall Jackson (yes, seriously).
I am an avid reader, a gamer (mostly PC gaming, but sometimes I will join hubs on the PS/XBox/Wii) and I am active in our Renaissance faire group. We meet at least monthly, and then a few times per year we do 5-day long camping trips getting our ren faire geekiness on (read: one day of lots of manual labor followed by four days of talking, laughing, and drinking.)
I am a supervisor for a major auto insurance company, but I am currently working on my degree in health science so that I can do something more fulfilling with my time.
My straw moment was going to the doctor this last February and my weight was at 312 pounds, which is bananas for my 5' 8" frame. Hubs was at 340. My sister told me about LCHF and I never looked back.
I cannot pin down my favorite book. Maybe (maybe?) Flowers for Algernon?
Here's my question: What is the one response that sticks out in your mind when you've told people about your ketogenic diet?
Mine is, "Oh my god, you're going to have a heart attack eating like that!"5
