    Oh Roger,
Hope nothing damaged with your knee, and just needing a good rest.
Yes, I do have the very best neighbors next door.
The timers are sorta like spring loaded, I guess....like the old kitchen timers before digitals...twist it, and at the appointed time, it buzzes. Now, that's just a guess...

And yes, like the hose has to be drained, so the timer will have to come into the garage...no big deal, as I can't think of anything here that would require winter watering...unless I plant some pansies, and it ends up being a dry winter like they are saying we'll have...and that I can do with a watering can.

Also I do understand about not having a place for a compost pile. They can be unsightly unless caged in chicken wire, or one of the manufactured ones...etc. My back yard is totally inclosed, so in one corner I made a compost pile...worked for years...and then 'something' started digging through it....yep, my bandit faced foes! SO, right now no compost pile, BUT :)
I have an old screen door so some great warm gotta get outside afternoon, I will 'screen' it with chicken wire, and lay it over the spring compost pile. At least in my mind this will work. I may have to set a couple cinder/concrete blocks on it to keep the little beasties from simply moving it. Like monkeys, they have 5 usable 'fingers and toes'...makes them pretty clever.

Hope the knee does well the next few days, and won't require a lengthy rehab.

    Later...
    Hi Valerie
Thank You for asking, I had hoped to be able to get out and about Today or Tomorrow, Now I do not think that will be happening as I felt more pain overnight last night than the night before :(
it may be time to see the doctor, that is something I do not like to do FWIW. I hope this is just a minor speed bump on the road of life.

I could see a Spring powered timer like You describe that simply shuts off the water when the time is up as being simple, reliable and hopefully inexpensive.

I suspect that we have Raccoons and Skunks to go with the tree rats and walking appetites AKA Deer in this neighborhood. I have seen them around town or in the yard. I have also seen Turkeys and Buzzards and Fox nearby too. I have Opossum near some of the brooks in the area too. Considering this is a Old well populated area of NJ it is somewhat surprising how they have integrated themselves into city life. I have heard that we have had Coyotes sighted too, They are even invading New York City.

    Have a Nice Day

Back and posing before nap time with Lilo. J is finishing off his roasted veggie and cheese tamales, and I ate a can of soup.

My Kroger store occasionally makes pork cube steak. I'm not sure what cut they make it from, but they are quite good when cooked up. I lucked out on finding three packages (three steaks each) in the "used meat" rack and they were marked down enough to be almost a steal! Two packages remain in the freezer and the first package was sautéed in ghee with just salt, pepper, and crushed rosemary. No breading at all, though I know most people dredge these sorts of things in seasoned flour. That package came out delicious.

I might smother the next package in a can of cream of mushroom soup. I like pork chops made that way and I think it would work well with the cube steaks, adding a bit of garlic, some onion perhaps, pepper, rosemary and hot paprika. Or anything else that pops into my head. LOL!

Italian seasoning would probably work well in that too.
    Hi Ed
Thank You for the explanation of the Pork Cube Steaks. I am sure they would be great smothered with Mushroom Soup.

I have had and enjoyed Chicken Breasts baked after being covered with Mushroom Soup and They were tasty.
    Ah...dinner complete.

Tonight’s dinner: Vegetarian Chili Taco Salad, made with Azteca taco salad shells (the BEST!), home made spicy hot vegetarian chili, shredded lettuce, home made honey mustard dressing, diced tomato, Kroger Private Select hot habanero salsa, home made guacamole, and Kroger shredded Mexican style cheese.

Wine of choice: Diseño Old Vine Malbec, 2014, Argentina. A little bit stronger on the tannins than what I’ve been drinking lately, but it worked well with the food. I didn’t wait for the food to start drinking it… :P
Interesting that You like that specific brand. I have heard that some people do a double shell by putting a Tortilla around the hard Taco shell in case it breaks.
    Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday!

High of 81 predicted for today with 10% chance of rain.
Our rain yesterday was a teaser, the road and sidewalks were wet and it was still dry under the trees. Not a useful amount.

    Enjoy the Day

WE SOLD THE HOUSE IN MEMPHIS! Closing was yesterday. Utilities have already been transferred to the new owners (I checked with the utility company) and the closing money is in J's account. We have just about enough to cover the money we borrowed for the agreed upon repairs and carpet replacement that we did during the sale process.

After the dust settles we should also get a bit more back from overpayment of the remaining mortgage and whatever little bit is left in the escrow account.

And I gave notice at Kroger today. October 28 will be my last day working there.

I'll probably find something else but I need something where I'm not so essential and definitely not getting up at 3:00 in the morning!

Cheeseburger and fries for celebration lunch. I didn't eat any of the bun though. :)

I don't think it will take me too long to get used to sleeping a bit later than 3:00! And then I can stay up sometimes until midnight, when I turn into a pumpkin...

Speaking of pumpkins...well, winter squash anyway, my CSA box arrived today with a red kabocha squash instead of the red kuri squash I had ordered. Not a huge deal, but I did send a note about it, even telling them I didn't necessarily need a replacement but just wanted to know that if I ordered a red kuri the next time I'd actually get a red kuri.

Regardless I'm sure I'll enjoy the kabocha as I pretty much like all the winter squash...

I know, first world problems, right? LOL

Howdy y'all. It's the Ides of October! High of 82 predicted today with a 20% chance of rain. We might go to a house party this afternoon/evening, but might not. I'd rather like to go because one of the other guests who might arrive is having a birthday today and I'd like to give a hug.

Even though J and I stayed up late marathoning the rest of the ending season of Downton Abbey, so that I didn't get to bed until after I'd turned into a pumpkin, I was up at 5:15 this morning. So Lilo and I have had breakfast and I'll get back to bed later for some more morning nap I suppose.

Meanwhile, I'll just get distracted by the internet...

    Hi
It is 42 degrees this morning a change to the colder from yesterdays temperature. I won't be walking today. I'll be siting here drinking my coffee. This is the rest of Thursdays coffee that I need to Microwave since I went to the bank Yesterday and stopped at McDonalds for a large black coffee instead of heating the leftover coffee.

Forecast today for the 60s, warmer tomorrow and parts of NJ had a frost warning for the overnight Friday into Saturday morning. First one of those that I can remember for this season.

    Have a Great Weekend

    Good Afternoon!
Busy this morning...finally made my potato leek soup...tasty. Would have been over the top with the called for 2T butter, instead of the 1T EVOO and some broth that I actually used.

Have spent several valuable hours hunting down the name of a plant that Jenn's Mom wanted an I.D for. first pix was in a text message and I couldn't really tell what I was looking at...next she sent it as requested in an email...that helped. Flower looked somewhat familiar and distinctive as it is like a fan shape, or 'half a circle'...so I hit the internet, finally gave up on that and got out several of my hard bound plant books...I think I found it, sent it to her, and the reply I got back was 'Sort of'..... Like that was a help? So I sent her some ideas of where she could send the pix for i.d. and I am now officially 'quit'.

Beautiful day out...I don't think we need worry about that 10% rain chance...and probably not the 20% chance of brief showers for tomorrow either. Lake's down 10 ft they said on the news today. It was down 20 ft when we had the big drought several years ago.

Got a bit more computer stuff to get done, and then I may just go out and pick up sticks. Too nice to be indoors.

    Later...
    Hi Valerie
We are in a moderate drought condition here too as it has been a dry summer overall and there was not that much snow last winter either.

When You said I may just go out and pick up sticks it reminded me of the Game :)
Ok, I had to look up both squashes! And both sound interesting and tasty good. Wonder if I could tolerate them. I love good old acorn squash and really miss not eating it. Many years ago I ate a spagh. squash that apparently wasn't good, and it instantly made me quite ill. After that I tried a butternut with the same trip to hug the porcelain. Really sad, as I love squash. Haven't tried any in years, so maybe I'll get brave and have a go at squash again this fall. Hmmmm.
I love Winter Squash of all kinds. We always had Butternut and Acorn and others such as Turks Turban roasted with butter melted into them. Squash pairs nicely with Thanksgiving as a side to the Turkey. I have avoided it the last couple of years working on losing weight, This Year I think I may start using them again occasionally :)

    Good Luck trying the squash.

Congratulations on being done with the sale. I hope You get more than a little $ back.

I suspect that they will miss You, finding help is easy, finding reliable and honest trustworthy help is extremely hard. I know on my last job they had problems finding good help for another location. Not to mention in the late 90s we had a suspected thief. We were pretty sure once we noticed things missing, When he moved on surprise the missing items problem stopped too.
Oh, and I got shot today!

    Nice one.

Flu Shot is something I have not been getting for years. So far so good despite that.

I know I have much more of a problem getting used to getting up early compared to getting up later which is easy. I did my years of getting up in the overnight hours, it was much better once I got the last job and was able to get up at 9AM + and still be at work for a 10AM opening :)

OK I did a Valerie and looked up the Squash types, since the Red Kuri is in the Hubbard squash family I am sure it is tasty. The Red Kabocha squash also sounds delicious.

Your weather sounds so much better than ours for this time of year. Downton Abbey is a show I just never looked at, I have had more TV series that I watch than I have had time to watch as is without adding another one.

Good Luck on the nap front

Well, it's been a sort of lazy day, but I did do the monthly flush of the air conditioner drain, and made sure the sink is clear. I've set out some vegetables for a stir fry for tonight and pulled a whole chicken out of the freezer to thaw up so that in a few days I can make a roasted chicken.

So it hasn't been a totally lazy day...

And I updated my Windows 10 virtual sandbox.

Tonight’s dinner. Wine was Tapaculo Rosè, 2015. Dinner was stir fry of dry fried tofu, parsnip, onion, red and green bell pepper, and broccoli, with a sauce made starting with some Hoisin Garlic sauce, with added sriracha, vegetarian oyster sauce and soy sauce. This was served over small servings of jasmine rice. The wine was a decent pairing for the food, which was delicious and there ARE leftovers.

    Howdy y'all. It's sensational Sunday!

Woke up at about quarter to four, not surprisingly. But of course I need to be up even earlier tomorrow to begin my last two weeks at Kroger.

Lilo has been fed and so have I, along with all my vitamins and morning supplements.

This seems to be MY WEEKEND for lottery. I won $6 in the Thursday Jumbo lottery, which I claimed on Friday. Then I won $6 more in Friday's MegaMillions and woke this morning to find I won $8 in last night's PowerBall!

So, $20 total for lottery from the three night's. That isn't bad at all, so I'm calling last week a great week! Finally got rid of the house in Memphis, put in my notice at Kroger, and won $20. Definitely a great week.

    Laundry today, and some dishes.

    Hi
It is 48 degrees this morning a change to the warmer from yesterdays temperature. I went walking today for 5149 steps. As I was walking I felt well enough to a little further than I had originally planned to go which was a Boomerang visit for Coffee and back home. :)

Forecast today for the Upper 60s, warmer tomorrow, parts of NJ had a frost warning for the overnight Friday into Saturday morning. I did not see any frost Saturday morning, however it must have been cold enough to kill off the Zucchini plants as they looked wilted Saturday Morning.

    Have a Great Sunday

    Good Morning!
Lovely Saturday...when I got up it was still pretty dark, but not because it was early....it was super cloudy this a.m. No rain though. We're sitting at 'Extreme Drought' at this point. Not nice Old Mom Nature...not nice at all.

I spent a few minutes having some fun in the kitchen. Heck it was all cleaned up, needed some dirty dishes, right? I cooked beets in the Instant Pot (elec. pressure cooker) or InstaPot as I call it, and they were great! 15 minutes! Wooza! And I cleaned and cooked asparagus, and I used up the last of a container of spinach sautèed, onion, garlic and mushroom to go in it...oh, and I warmed a bit of the leek soup, and made it a sauce! LOL! Big plate of breakfast! Tasty too!

Have a pineapple to cut up...will eat what I can, and Monday I will freeze the rest for later.
As far as I know, we will be going to St. Simons. So, need to take stock and see just where I am on food that has to be consumed before I leave, and segregate it from the food that will keep til I return on Sat. night. Shouldn't be too difficult :)
And I have a bit of internet work to do....a bit of straightening up as Ted is coming out Sunday to go to the hockey game with me, and ??? after. Lunch no doubt.

The chicken pot pi, and the two golden retrievers contemplating human meal are funniest!
Jack and Jenn got a rescue golden..weird dog...but really good at snatching food from counters, table, etc. I've never had a dog big enough to do that...well, thats not quite true...I had a beagle mix that got pretty tall, and could have snatched food from the table, but knew better!

Time to get me wound up and going!
    Later...
    Hi Valerie
Better Drought than Flooding like other parts of the south like I see on the news....
My Brother is muttering it looks like the lawn will need mowing again as well as he wants to rake up leaves to use in whatever he wraps the Fig Trees in.

I'm glad You liked the humor.
    Good Morning Guys...its Sunday!
Ed's Lucky Week...house sold, lottery wins, job notice....followed by laundry and dishes...which at first struck me as oh, then the gratefulness gene kicked in and said, well, he's got clothes to wash..some don't. and dirty dishes nearly always means there is/was food! So, yep, Ed's Lucky Week!!
BTW, your dinner LOOKS wonderful...too bad computers can't help you smell the things you choose to smell....like flowers and Ed's dinners!! :)
Ted coming out and going to Cumming Ga with me for Nate's hockey game..so sorta need to get in the shower and eat some breakfast. Think food wise looks a lot like leftover beets and asparagus and spinach with potato leek 'sauce'!
I should trade all of that for Ed's leftovers from dinner!!! LOL!! HA HA, and fat chance!!
I expect I may be making a similar dish soon, as it looked so good.
I have started a Spanish class online...this is a hoot. I've done 3 lessons, and I knew all the words except lo siento...that was new. What has hung me up is SPELLING the words, and the diacritical marks, meanwhile, buenos días, and buenas noches. Haven't learned the word for 'later' yet, but my brain says it nearly has to be mañana!! :)

Roger how's your knee? Hope its much better and that you are resting it again today. Take it from me, don't mess up your knees! And get help when you need it. (don't wait around like I did)...

    again mañana!!
    Hi Again
What did You do, Re: Waiting?

I agree it could be manana as I understand that to mean Tomorrow as in the Song, Manana is soon enough for me.

    Roger,
you wrote.... "Hi Again What did You do, Re: Waiting?" And I can't figure out what it references?
Hockey game was a Shut Out, Nate scored a goal. and it was a fun day with Ted...
except maybe 2 things....one the gift of his old Garmin...vivosmart HR. Grrrr. Give me a few days, I hope I will get the hang of it....and he brought a bottle of Soylent for me to try. He's thinking of buying some to have either mornings or at work mid day.... I wish him luck.
Nasty tasting stuff. For one, he got vanilla. I have no idea what other flavors there are, but this is nearly tasteless....and I messed with it, added a good bit of vanilla, and even a pkg of artificial sweetner...still lacks taste! ???? I dunno!!!
It is dairy free which is to its favor...it also has several soy derivatives...not good, and I have reason to believe the soy is GMO...and I don't intentionally eat GMO garbage.
I do sound like a crabby ole witch!
I am tired, but this Garmin is going to drive me nutso! It obviously will not work with the stationary bike...it right now is telling me AGAIN I need to MOVE! and I have, in my opinion. all around the house but apparently that doesn't satisfy it. It does count steps, but so does my Fitbit. Like I said, give me a few days I may come to like it.

    Later... mañana
    Hi Valerie
I'm not sure what happened there beyond a fail. As far as I can recall it was something to do with what You posted, "don't mess up your knees! And get help when you need it. (don't wait around like I did)" a unclear what happened to You due to waiting?

Hmmm... I thought a Garmin was a GPS device?

    A shutout, whee...

As far as GMO, I am ambivalent, I think some could be good, it can't all be bad. However how do You tell.

    Have a Good Day

Woman Vacuuming Gasoline Out Of Trunk Sparks Explosion
    http://1079ishot.com/woman-vacuuming-gasoline-out-of-trunk-sparks-explosion-video/
A woman thought that it would be a great idea to just vacuum the gasoline out of her truck. Well, it turned out to be a TERRIBLE idea.

The woman is seen in surveillance video vacuuming the gasoline out of her trunk, but what she did not take into consideration was what could happen as a result of. An explosion.

The vacuum at the car wash was destroyed and will cost $500 to repair. Luckily, no one was injured here.

Let’s just hope this young lady learned a lesson her and NEVER decides to vacuum gasoline out of anything again.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Day two of the final ten. They selected a replacement who already works out in the fuel center so training can be minimized, which is good. There is still a lot to impart but I don't have to train him in general fuel center operations as well, and he's already had all the fuel safety training.

I guess he'll be coming in for the manager training a couple of days next week.

High for today creeping upward again. I think Summer is trying to make a comeback, as it's supposed to be even higher tomorrow.

86 predicted for today. 0% chance of rain again.

    Off to the rat mines!

    Hi
It is 60 degrees this morning, a strange change from yesterdays temperature since today is forecast to be warmer. I went walking today for 9,392 steps. As I was walking I felt well enough to walk further than yesterday however I think I overdid it slightly as I was moving slow towards the end of the walk :)

Forecast today for the in the 80s. Warmer thru Wednesday

    Have a Great Tuesday

Too many thoughts, too little time. I have eaten, as has Tom E. but, not even dressed yet.
Our weather is pretty much the same...the low I saw here was a bit cooler, and we'll be seeing mid 80's, no rain.
The GMO issue will have to go back burner...it IS an issue, if not to what it does to humans, or to animals, then what it does to the (earth) ie fields its sprayed on. That is HUGE. Also, never mind...I need to get day going.
Garmin is a GPS, a keeper of exercise data, a pedometer, records my heart rate as in current and avg. its a sleep watcher...as in deep sleep, light sleep, got up to pee sleepwalking, ha! and it can count laps in the pool, and more, and more and more... yep its water proof...goes with you in the shower, don't think I'd wear it in the ocean, simply because of the two little metal nodes that are part of the recharging system. (about every 4 days Ted said)...

I worsened the inflammation in my knee joints, and it made for a very long recovery. Sorta like if you banged your shin on the coffee table..do it once and it heals rather nicely...but do it several times each day and you get a different recovery. Well, I banged the heck out of my poor knees over a long time...and stubbornly kept doing it because I 'needed the exercise'...blah, blah, blah, and the recovery has been much longer than the repetitive injury.
Just sayin'.... If your walking is pain free then great...if its causing you pain, or need for Nsaids, or keeping you awake at night... you alone can decide this. Contrary to the popular saying 'I feel your pain'...no, I don't! only you feel your pain! LOL!!

Ok, I really have a list of stuff to do..like gas the car, go to the bank, trip to Walmart for cat food, I really hate running errands.....putting this off all morning. Time for action!

Loved the first 3 cartoons best....ps, the beer was not for the kids, but for the mommies! :), only I'd hope they had a little better taste in brew, or tried wine. Just my fun opinion..

    Later...mañana!
    Hi Valerie
That sounds like a good idea even if they are Stainless Steel, It is not impervious to being affected by things.

What is happening with the Knee is: When I get up in the middle of the night or in the morning currently it hurts like the dickens for about a minute then the pain subsides and it does not really bother me when walking.

I like the Cartoons too, just a little pricey for nestle water :) How about them clueless people I posted? So many crooks seem to be, I'll be nice and just say, Not to smart :)
    Good Morning!
Summer has returned, no trying to it! Should tie a record for today, and though I won't be here to see it, break the record heat record for the date tomorrow.
News said this morning that the water supply (from a small river) has receded to the point that they're putting porta potties at the school, and bringing in bottled water. What I didn't catch is whether its in Haralson county, or the town of Haralson. Bad, which ever it is.

Lots to do this morning...but, coffee first! :)

    Later...

    Hi Again
We had some records temperatures broken in this metro NY area too, That being parts of NJ, NY and Conn.
I also saw where a town out in the West hit 101 degrees yesterday, talk about warm for October.

Seeing that in the news would be worrisome to me too. Fortunately it is not that bad, yet. OTOH if we don't start getting rain and have a dry winter....

    Have a Nice Day

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! Day two of the final ten. They selected a replacement who already works out in the fuel center so training can be minimized, which is good. There is still a lot to impart but I don't have to train him in general fuel center operations as well, and he's already had all the fuel safety training.

I guess he'll be coming in for the manager training a couple of days next week.

High for today creeping upward again. I think Summer is trying to make a comeback, as it's supposed to be even higher tomorrow.

86 predicted for today. 0% chance of rain again.
    Hi Ed
That sounds like it will make things easier for You.
We are having a mini heatwave here too with record breaking temperatures in the forecast through tomorrow.

    Have a Good Day
