Great job! Looks like a nice park/path that you walked! Soooo glad I did mine yesterday as it is misty and dreary here today, so doubt I will be getting my lunch walk in today... but not sure when I will get my steps in today3 -
Didn't mean to open a can of worms regarding minutes exercised. I didn't realize we weren't achieving all the challenge points. Thanks for the info.1
-
That's kind of depressing that we're succeeding in exercise minutes, but it comes down to the challenge points more.
At least the exercises I'm doing are helping me in the real world and I'm not just wasting my time.
(That sounded a little snarky, but I am competitive. The challenges aren't difficult and they don't take very much time when you consider you're given a full week to get them done.)
The previous version of this game was almost totally weighted towards the challenges, with very little being awarded to teamwork and exercise time. With this incarnation, we tried to come up with a more balanced approach. This is where the 600 point legs, 50 point bonus and 10% came from. Mere exercise time can be applied to many of the other challenges on MFP. As some people posted "over the top" exercise time, we added the 1000 min cutoff this time to try and level the field.
The challenges (love them or hate them) are what force people to stay focused on this race and their team. Part of the purpose of this game is to try to provide exposure to different parts of the world and their cultures. This leads to some challenges that are a little more "unconventional" than others. An interesting side-effect of this, is the intra-team bonding that takes place through the "discussions" afforded to various challenges....
To try and satisfy the "uber-competitive" needs of some, I threw in the Power Rankings. This has also been called into question, as not everyone has the time to exercise 40 hours per week....
This whole process is experimental and evolutionary; and I'm sure that IF we do it again, there will be even more tweaks.
-Have a Happy Thursday everyone!
(Attn @My_Butt: This is not directed at you, your quote was merely convenient; and thank you for pointing out that the challenges aren't really that difficult, nor do they involve a lot of time.)
(Attn @b3achy: Yes, you can be a PitA )

Ahh, well said @MissionEnforcer and as some said last race and again in this one, some of the challenges have become incorporated in our normal exercise practice! Thanks to you and Clarice @hawkins410 for providing this group challenge and have a great Thanksgiving!
@biketheworld -- you didn't open a can of worms and hopefully you didn't think we were attacking your suggestion to get more minutes, just wanted to clarify4 -
@MissionEnforcer I am a newbie and I LOVE THIS CHALLENGE! I used to wake up at 5a.m. to work out, but because of this challenge, I get up at 4a.m. to get in more minutes/miles. I know I can't keep this up indefinitely, but I love pushing myself.
We appreciate all that you both do!5 -
Decided to do a walk today, just in case later in the week things go off the rails. Got in 3.35 miles (or so), which means I finished the 5K walk challenge today. Thought about making gobbling noises so it'd be a "Turkey Trot", but had more fun making squirrel noises to scare the ones hunting for dropping acorns...hmmm, does that make it a "Squirrel Stroll" instead? Still more of a leisurely pace since I'm not at a 100%, so my time was way slower than @rusgolden or @MiamiSeoul.
Glad to see my reputation has been verified by @MissionEnforcer. And yes, while I might be a PiTA, I am really enjoying this challenge too. I'm impressed at all the hard work that @hawkins410 and @MissionEnforcer have put into it. Glad to be a guinea pig in this happy little experiment, and very hopeful there IS a next one!!
Had a picture to post of my walk, but can't get it off my phone right now...so instead I'll post this...

I am thankful for having had the friendship of two beautiful souls, Shannon & Sheryl. I am thankful for having had 10 wonderful years to get to know my biological mother, Yon Cha. I am thankful for life and the ability to get better, stronger, healthier & happier every day. I am thankful for this app & all the tools & resources I use on this journey and I'm thankful for the beautiful souls I've met during the MFP challenges.
MINUTES/MILES
21 Nov. 60 minutes walking
22 Nov. 196 minutes (Two walks totaling 156 minutes + 40 minutes days 20 & 21, 30 Day Abs + Legs + Glutes Challenge)4 -
@rusgolden Thanks for the clarification. I really do appreciate this group!
I'm loving the Rockette challenge. It's a great leg workout!
Challenge #3 - Freedom From Want - I have thought long and hard about this. My obvious choices would be my 3 grown daughters, 5 1/2 grandchildren, and 1 amazing husband. But I'm also so so very thankful for a core group of 5 friends who "do life" with me. We carry each other's burdens, celebrate the good times, weep at the bad. They kept me sane in 2009 when I had a car crash and my mom was killed. They kept me from imploding in 2010 when my 32 year marriage ended. They let me cry, they let me yell, they never told me "you shouldn't feel that way" and they gave sound advice. When one of my daughters got married, they did something for me that was above and beyond the call of duty - my daughters wept when they learned what these friends were doing for me. I honestly pray that my daughters will have a group of friends that are as wise, loving, funny, and accepting as these friends are. I don't have any sisters - but they are sisters to me.
Well that was certainly mushy, wasn't it. But true. I really am so thankful for those 5 friends.

I did the rockette thing last night and this morning (start and end of morning session). I use most of those moves in warm up for fencing anyway.
Booked a Saturday morning walk with a friend as we don't do Thanksgiving here.
Although I missed it, another challenge prompted me to start skipping so I should be getting more of that into my routine!
I am back at work today, so back in normal routine and will be getting in all the challenge points again as well as aiming for some high exercise minutes every week. I'm done with holidays for the year as we are heading into peak season. I have a wedding in mid-December but that is just one night away so won't affect my schedule much.4 -
I've been debating what to say that I'm thankful for...I've always been bad at these even as a kid. I always ended up giving generic answers.
After some thinking, I guess I'd say I'm thankful for my relative health. Sure, I have my issues, but I can still do things. And I've gone ahead and taken preventative measures (losing weight!) to keep from getting a lot of the issues my mother had while I was growing up.
I'm thankful for my friends and my husband for being so supportive of me in life, even through some pretty difficult times, and for sticking around.
And I'm thankful for MFP, for the advice and knowledge I've found here, and for groups like this that appeal to my competitive side, but also just for keeping me accountable to someone other than myself in this journey.3 -

I thought with it being a holiday week, I'd have a lot more time for exercising and relaxing... but so far just one thing after another and barely getting home to sleep just to get woken up a million times by my son's CGM alerting me to high blood sugars. I'm exhausted. Today is my last day at work though, and I'll have a long weekend to get some better minutes in.

I finished the rockettes workout today. It was my sleepin day, but my daughter had her alarm set for 6:07, and let it ring and ring, so I finally got up and did some biking before heading to school. Probably a good thing I did. We have student led conferences this week at school. I have 32 families to meet with, and so by the time I got home last night, I was ready for bed. I know it will be the same tonight!
@rusgolden beautiful family picture. Was that your son getting married? He looks like you!1 -
Mrscanmore wrote: »@rusgolden beautiful family picture. Was that your son getting married? He looks like you!
Thank you, and yes, it was my son. They got married this past June and my daughter is getting married this coming May. I'm excited for them, but dang, it makes me feel old! Lol.3 -

I've gotten over the feeling old thing. I had serious empty-nester syndrome for awhile. Now that my sons are married, even with 2 grandkids and one on the way, I actually feel younger than I did when they were growing up and giving me anxiety, sleepless nights and gray hair! LOL
In other words, time to concentrate on me and the husband for a change and enjoy life!3 -
Week 6 - New York, New York!
Challenge 1: Turkey trot 5K
Completed 11/21 (in the very cold rain and wind with 2 equally nutty and damp friends)
We're planning to do the "Run for Your Nuts" 5K on December 3rd, but haven't registered. The online registration is only a 50 cent savings (whee!) and there's no refund. I'll spend a dollar extra for 2 people for the reassurance that we wouldn't lose our money if something comes up.
Challenge 2: Train like a Rockette x 3
2/3 Complete
Challenge 3: Be Thankful
I have so very much to be thankful for this year. Primarily, the love and support of an amazing man who is so many things to me and has been by my side for over 38 years, through good times and bad, in sickness and in health. We pretty much grew up together so there have been some rocky times here and there but we've worked through them. I look forward to many more years of fun and interesting times as we continue to learn and grow. I'm thankful for my children, their wives and my grandkids (2 littles and 1 on the way soon). I'm thankful for my home and the blessings of electricity, clean air and water, a decent car, and bountiful food. My friends both in person and online have provided so much support and are very much appreciated, as well. My Fab 5 teammates are amazing and I am grateful and hopeful for another Amazing Race challenge to come!

Fab Five, way to crank it out despite the holiday week (some teams look like they didn't even show up this week)! Leading in minutes, and rocking the challenge points!! Well done teamies!!
I had intended to do a bit more today (like get in another round of the Rockettes workout), but lady issues kept me from leaving the heating pad for too long...but one of my friends called me this evening, so while I was talking to her on the phone, I jumped on my glider to get a "few" exercise minutes...and well, she can talk...a lot...so I got over 4.5 miles done in 75 minutes. So, much better than what it was looking like earlier today. But I'll work on the Rockettes workout challenge tomorrow or Friday.
And thought this logo felt more 'fall' like since it was in orange...and clearly, we're superstars, so it's a perfect one for this week!

I put the girls to bed after our student led conferences and jumped back on bike for another 30 minutes3
-
Not much exercise for me today... just a 45 minute run, which I felt like my butt was dragging and not sure if it was because I had spent the previous 5+ hours driving. @b3achy love the new logo! @RaeBeeBaby - I agree, being fit has definitely helped not feeling so old...3

Plan on doing my 10k today after I get off work if it's not unbearably cold. If it is, I'll do it tomorrow at the gym.
And Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US.5 -
Hi everyone, got in my 5K. It is getting cold here in the Midwest so I decided to do the 5K on my treadmill. I did each of the 6 stretches one time. I will finish it up tomorrow and Saturday
I am grateful for my family, our health, our family home and our jobs. Many other things as well, these are just the ones I am thinking of right now.4 -
Challenge 1: completed 5k
Challenge 2: completed rockettes routines
Challenge 3:
I'm thankful for what I have and being able to live in the moment. I used to live in the negativity of the past, and fear the future. But I began to enjoy what was happening in the present this past winter after a health scare. I no longer 'want' items like I used to, I now 'want' fun experiences in life.
I'm happy with what I have, and the only wishes that remain are ongoing: good health for family, friends, and all animals.

Challenge 3
I am thankful- for my husband (the best) we will be married for 38 years next month ( when I hit 40 ) I want to go to New York for anniversary Dec. 20
Also for my daughter and son-in law who are blessed with our two amazing grand children.
Health- I had to go today for my last ultra sound, I had a cyst on my neck and because of having an ultra sound completed they found many nodules, biopsy was inconclusive to operate or keep checking through ultra sounds. Fingers crossed for next week when I get the results.
MFP. they have helped me along the way to reach my goals.
