guess if weight loss isn't linear it makes sense that weight gain wouldn't be either. Glad I didn't see another big jump though, still trying to keep it under 20lbs.1 -
Well I'm about 3 lbs less than what I should be to meet the min weight gain so I find myself worrying about that a bit.. Not gaining enough has it's own worries
Try not to worry! If there aren't any other signs there are problems you might just not be carrying some of the water weight and swelling alot of women experience later on. I imagine that is included in some of the averages they come up with.
You are right on track for where I should be if I were in your shoes, but I started out alot heavier than you2 -
Time for my weekly check-in.
This is my first pregnancy, and I am shooting for a 25-30 lb. weight gain.

Week 20: 120 (+5)
Week 21: 121 ( +6)
Week 22: 123.5 (+8.5, cumulative)
I have no idea how you guys are showing such steady weight gain. I seem to just gain in huge jumps. At this point, I'm doing everything that I can reasonably do nutritionally/calorically, so I'm just going to enjoy the ride and hope these jumps chill out soon!2 -

I guess I should stop worrying too much. Talked to the midwife again and they seem fine if I only gain 5 more lbs. And my belly is measuring at the right amount so I guess.. I should just relax and enjoy. And eat food.
But I still can't get it out of my head... that I should gain more. But maybe it is just that I'm not retaining some of the water. I don't have any swelling.
At 31+3 I measured 31 cm so that's bang on for fundal height.2 -

Hi everyone! I just found out last week that I'm pregnant. I'm 5 weeks along. So, this is my 2nd pregnancy. My daughter is 13. I'm scared to death. With my daughter, I had uncontrolled weight gain. I gained a staggering 130 lbs. I doubled my weight. Half of the weight I gained was water. I had +4 pitting edema. By the time my daughter was 1 month old, I lost 70 lbs. By the time she was 6 months old I was back within a healthy BMI. I wasn't active AT ALL during my pregnancy. I ate mostly junk food. I've learned my lesson. But here I am, pregnant again. And gaining quickly.
Week 4: 162.8
Week 5: 165.6
I'm counting calories. I work out 1 hour almost every day. I'm freaking out. I've gained 3 lbs in a week. I want to believe it's water weight but given my history, I don't know. I know I'm probably eating a little too much but not enough to warrant this kind of gain.2 -

Sounds like you spaced them out just right to have a personal baby sitter
Try not to freak out too much. I didn't start logging here that early in my pregnancy, but I remember having a bit of a spike around 5/6 weeks that fell back off, I attested it to hormones since your hormones are ramping up and getting your body all set to keep carrying the baby.
Seems like trying to stay a bit active may help ward of the edema issues you had last time, keep the blood and lymph system flowing a little bit. I know in the first trimester walking helped me feel a little better too during my more miserable weeks 6-8. Definitely talk to your ob about what can be done for that particular side effect though!
Congratulations!2 -
Hello all. I used to be on this board a couple of months ago. I was pregnant (about 7 weeks along) but had a miscarriage on 11/8 (Election Day)
I'm now going to be 13 weeks on Saturday. Everything looks perfect according to the midwife
Height: 5'1.5"
SW- 118 ( I gained weight from the winter and being sad about the miscarriage).
Week12: 122 ( I was bloated though).
I'm petite so I don't want to gain a lot of weight because my back hurts.1 -

Welcome, and I am very sorry for your previous loss.
My new "week" starts on Saturday too, but I am always temped to just say I'm on the next week by the previous Thursday, I guess because I feel more than halfway over the work week so that counts, right?0 -
@wantoldme I haven't heard from you in a while! I'm glad you're joining this group and congrats on 13 weeks I'm sorry about your miscarriage and I hope that this pregnancy will bring you joy0

Thank you @4legsRbetterthan2. I agree I also round up I'm excited. I can't wait to tell my family (after my next obgyn appointment so the week of 5/15).
@VeryKatie thank you and it's so good to hear from you again. I'll be back on this board. Missed it here.2 -

Height: 5' 4"
Age: 27
First Pregnancy
Goal to Gain: 35-40 lb
Starting weight: 128 lb
Week 29: 02/14: 161 lb
I'm up 33 lbs with 11 weeks to go (as of Tuesday)!! How are you ladies doing it.. I really don't want to let myself get hungry as I've done in the past counting calories. Also, I admit I haven't been tracking regularly or accurately, and when I do log I seem to be eating 2500 cals or more. Also, the ligament pain has been bothering me when walking, so my activity has been pretty limited to yoga and swimming once a week. I get about 6000-8000 steps a day. So, I know I'm likely over eating and under-exercising.
I've started drinking milk and orange juice, switched to full-fat yogurt with granola, eating more 'bread-carbs' (i.e. pasta, bagels, toast, crackers), and yes, I do have treats, but try not to over-do it. I ate treats when I lost 35 lbs last year. I snack a lot more too, so all these little changes to my diet add up.
I'm feeling discouraged. I didn't want to be a 50 lb gainer, but looks like I'm well on my way. My mom and her sister both told me they gained 60 lbs for all their pregnancies (mom, 2 pregnancies, my aunt, 3). Maybe it's in my genes?
I will note I'm having a very healthy and comfortable pregnancy otherwise with no complications. I had my glucose tolerance test and I do not have gestational diabetes, my blood pressure is always normal, etc. Baby boy is healthy, so I guess I can't complain too much!
I am up 28.5lbs and I have 16 weeks left to go Everything you said here sounds exactly like me! To a T! It's discouraging but if it's anything like my first pregnancy, I know that once the baby is out I will revert back to "normalness" almost immediately. It is so weird. Before this pregnancy I watched what I ate, didn't eat a lot of junk and ALWAYS ate my veggies with lunch and dinner. Since being pregnant I cannot eat hardly any meat and veggies are basically off. Literally all I want are carbs. It's terrible. I'm eating things I would NEVER eat. The problem is, I keep giving into all these bad cravings! I was walking 40 mins a day but then my arch in my right foot blew out a couple weeks ago (probably from all this extra weight) and I cannot do walking like that now. It hurts. I should push myself to do yoga at night, but I have so much going on after work (we just moved) that I don't have the time or energy. I feel hopless I was hoping to stay under a 50lb gain this time, but it looks like I might hit 60-70lbs at this rate. I gained exactly 50lbs with my first child (12 years ago) and lost it all and then some within 6 months.0 -

Were you able to get back to normal after your previous pregnancies. If so, maybe that's just the way it is for you. Hang in there!

Seems like you are doing all you can do. It sounds like your calories are still pretty low, make sure you don't run yourself into the ground. Its great to have a weight gain goal and try to keep it within reason, but I still think health trumps weight gain, so if you are struggling I would try to let go of the number on the scale a little bit and cut yourself some slack.

Height: 5'1.5"
SW: 118 (heaviest I was)
Weight at 12 weeks: 122 (this was at doctor's office and in middle of day after lunch and I was feeling bloated)
I decided to only weight myself at doctors office because my scale at home isn't reliable. My clothes fit the same. Only thing I notice are that my boobs are huge. I swear any weight has gone straight there.2 -

4th pregnancy, hopefully 3rd baby
Goal to Gain: 15-25 lbs.
All weight gain is cumulative.
Really hoping to keep weight in check this time. Gained 42.5 with my last baby, 15 lbs in first trimester alone! (eek!)
A little frustrated. Eating on average 1650 Cal/day total this week... 2 circuit training sessions and very active with nesting/chasing 2 year old. Not sure what else I can do.
Thank you, I agree sometimes the body will just do what it needs to for baby. My OB is fine with these calories - I'm old and have a slow metabolism! lol. Not feeling hungry at this level but I know I can't take it lower. I wasn't too overweight when I got pregnant with this one (about 12 lbs), plus I was still nursing (I hold onto weight when nursing.... grrr. Lol), so hopefully a 30 lb total gain is good for me. (Since it looks like that's where I'm headed)
I looked and by 29 weeks with my last pregnancy, I was up 36 lbs, so this is an improvement at least!!1 -
@getfitgal123 That's a good attitude it's good you feel improved from your last pregnancy and I agree it seems like you're doing everything right and it's good your OB does too. That's key!
Is... anyone else getting really sick of their maternity clothes? Lol. I forced myself into a non-maternity shirt this AM because I just didn't want to wear the same things I've been wearing for the last 4 months. Funny though, I bought this shirt 2 years ago and I think this is my first time wearing it lol.2
