What a WEEK!!! Yesterday I spent the morning in cold rainy weather on a charity hike. I decided to relax by spending the rest of the day in bed. Sometimes it's nice to just "clock out" and leave responsibilities for later (sorry kids). I really needed it. So in addition to sharing NSVs, I am going to focus on some "ME" time this week. Whether it's taking an afternoon nap, going out alone for some fun shopping, or going out on Saturday for Girl's Night Out, I am going to do something for myself every day this week.
My NSV for today! I took a picture with someone yesterday, and she posted it to Facebook, and I did not hesitate for even a fraction of a second to take it, or to let her post it. YAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I saw the picture, and although it is not the most flattering picture (looking like a wet dog in the rain) I don't care, because I KNOW for a fact I look FABULOUSSSSSSSS!!!

Mr Nikki: Totally ate the cheeseburger on REGULAR pretzel bread yesterday at the hike. I'm proud of him for dealing with all the tree drama and not eating himself into a sugar coma like he usually did in the past.

First real week in. Some trial and error for sure. Realized I have 5 significant events this summer and it is a HUGE motivating factor for me. Photos-in-dresses events. I can somehow slog through daily getting dressed but when there is an event...I end up self-loathing and just trying to find something that “works” rather than something I feel great in. Here we go.

Minus 2.6! I’ll take it.7 -
I got stuck at a team party for one of my boys’ soccer teams yesterday that ended up being hours longer than I expected and had almost zero keto friendly food options. Gave in and had a cupcake and a soda based cocktail and spent the rest of the day feeling gross and headachy and nauseous. We have a party for a different team today and I’ll definitely be sure to take a snack or two along.

My NSV this week happened when I tried on some pants which are much smaller and they fit pretty darn well. It's time to start thinning out the closet of things I am never going to wear again!

Several NSV's. The first week of Keto I lost 2 inches in my natural waist. Clothes are becoming looser and looser and I feel really good! Still getting a hang of Keto, but enjoying learning!

The weight loss this week looks pretty good but I’ve had a stomach bug. I haven’t eaten in 36 hours and I was sick all night. I had carbs yesterday because I couldn’t stomach meat & dairy. I had toast for the first time in months. Interestingly my smart scale completely reflects the last 36 hours. My water weight plummeted and my body fat sky rocketed both by 10%. I was dubious that my smart scale really detected such things - until now. Anyways, I’m through the worst of it and hopping next weeks weigh in doesn’t show a gain.
NSV - I bought a fabulous white jumpsuit this week off a sales rack. I didn’t have time to try it on in the store. When I got home my friend was like,”try it on, I want to see it.” I came strutting out runway style and she said, “Oh my god, your body looks amazing!”
I’m so proud of everyone on here!! All of your successes and efforts keep me going!!

So the scale was up and down this week again, and i was feeling a little deflated that i wasn't seeing the weight loss progress that I was hoping for. Well to my surprise this morning I am down 2.5 lbs after a bigger meal last night, but i am also down in inches in my body measurements. Overall i am down 1.5" from my bust and waist, 1.25" on my hips and 1" from my upper thigh all from the beginning of April! KCKO6 -

My NSV for the week: I bought a dress 7 years ago that was so beautiful but only available in a size 8; I was at least a 14 at the time. After all these years, I tried it on this week, and it fits! I'm not a proponent of buying "aspirational" sizes, and it's the only article of clothing which I intentionally bought that way, but I am really happy to have another pretty summer dress I can wear now.8 -
River_Goddess wrote: »@stormywxs288 Good luck! I love bowling. I've won a few tournies myself I find if I go into the event with the stance that I am free to eat as I please, and accept the outcome of such indulgence, I often end up having a few nibbles and tastes and sips but it's never as bad or as crazy as I imagine. Giving myself the permission and freedom often results in me choosing not to overindulge and I leave feeling successful, instead of going in with a restrictive stance and leaving feeling disappointed. So much of this journey is in our heads!!
Thanks for the advice. I wish I would have taken it. Stayed clear of beer but I did over indulge on carb goodies the morning after the tournament. I caved to waffles, pancakes and fake maple syrup. I did exactly what you warned me about. I was so restrictive during the tournament that I convinced myself I deserved a day of zero restrictions and I went hog wild on the carbs the morning after.
Here’s the good news though. It only cost me 3.4 pounds and I still have 5 more days to chip away at that before Sunday’s weigh-in. And I’m back in my Keto-Friendly world, all carb loaded and anxious to return to ketosis. Also, I bowled 12 games without a single sore joint or even a blister. I swear even my skin is in better health because of keto.
As good as keto has been for me though it didn’t make me bowl better. I didn’t bowl bad, but I didn’t bowl GOOD and that’s what it takes to cash in tournaments. However, I had more fun than I’ve had in years because I wasn’t hurting, my attitude was in check and I just felt keto good.

Well, as I suspected, two full days of travel and five days of conferences took their toll, but the good news is, the gain was not as bad as I thought it would be. I had taken a lot of keto-friendly food with us and was able to have some measure of control. I think a lot of the extra weight comes from sitting so much and not having much exercise the whole time. I did not overeat (although I did have more wine than usual) so hopefully these pounds will melt away and I can get back on track quickly. NSV: I'm not discouraged by the gain! I knew it was coming and that it will be temporary. Still hoping to break into the 50's this month. I've got 10 days to work hard at it!

Hey everyone! I wanted to see if I could get some ideas about IF. I wake up around 3:50am every morning to go to the gym. On the days that I work, I work 12 hours shifts (7:00am-7:00pm). I try to push breakfast until about 9:00, but seeing as though I workout hard, I am usually starving then. I make sure breakfast is filling and Keto friendly.
I am trying to figure how HOW to incorporate IF. Do I just eat dinner before my family eat? Should I skip lunch? I am a newbie, as Friday marks 2 weeks of the Keto way of life. Any advice would be very appreciated! I have learned quite a lot, however have so much more to learn!
TIA
Hi! I see you got some great input on this, but I wanted to put in my 2 cents
I don't follow a set formula for IF, but I attempt to do 16:8 more often than not. If I am at a stall or plateau, I am more intentional about it, and for me IF seems to kick start me and get my loss moving again.
Because I also like to eat dinner when my family does and we have sporadic schedules, I will eat with them and then do my best to wait 16 hours to break my fast. BUT, as you said working out will make you hungry, etc.
For me, it is important to not be hungry because then I make poor choices, so if I get TRULY hungry (not emotionally or mentally hungry) I just eat, no matter what time it is because for me not being hungry is more important than my IF schedule.
I did find that once I was fat adapted, I did not get hungry as soon that made a difference as well.
I also quit looking at my meals as 'breakfast', 'lunch' and 'dinner' and that helped. I follow a keto plan that discourages snacking, so I attempt to keep at least 4 hours between meals and as I said, I try to plan my first meal of the day 16 hours after I had my last meal of the previous day.
Every body is different, this is just what has worked for me!6 -
I don't know whether I need a slap or a hug. Maybe both??
I've overindulged several days in a row. I tried Halo Top for the first time, just to see what the fuss was about. It kicked me out of ketosis, resulting in false hunger signals and moodiness all weekend. I've been way over on my calories several days in a row.
I've got my fingers crossed that my body will slip back into fat burning mode quickly, as I'm well adapted. And that it will read my overindulgence as a carb-up and give me a whoosh... One can only hope!!
I suppose to see the silver lining, what felt like "off the rails" eating to me, was actually only maintainence calories and 44g carbs instead of my usual 20. Nothing like what a pre-keto food bender would have looked like!!8 -

I wanted to say something before but I didn’t want to jinx you as you approach what I think is the most impressive of milestones, ONE HUNDRED POUNDS lost! You are an inspiration to everyone on this thread who is paying attention. Your steady relentless attack on 100 pounds lost is quite impressive. I listen carefully to your calm and measured advice. You’ve taught me and others how to deal with everything from the NK bowling alley environments to the Keto cha-cha.
I can totally relate to your frustration. Why do we seem to sabotage our own efforts when we approach significant milestones or goals? Perhaps it is all part of the dance you’ve described before as the keto cha-cha. One thing I know for sure is, if there is anyone on this thread with will and determination to get-r-done it is you. One Two Cha Cha Cha.

@stormywxs288 Thank you so much for those kind words!! I actually smiled out loud (haha) and felt lighter-hearted after reading your message. Thank you. I do my best every day - some days are better than others!!
I've prepped, portioned and pre-logged my food for tomorrow, and I will walk to & from work - rain or shine. I think a good night sleep and one solid, on-plan day is all it will take to get this train back on the tracks
Thanks for being there.7 -
